Malakei Oakley, aka rapper M. Prophet, is at the top of his game—but deep in the closet. Handsome, wealthy, and successful as the head of 315East Entertainment, Malakei should be on cloud nine. Despite his awards and a Midas touch that has every musician clamoring to work with him, something is missing.
Seth “Reaper” Davies is ready for stardom. His band High Stakes plays to small, packed houses all over Birmingham and London but has yet to get their big break. But Seth isn’t giving up on his dream—no matter what it takes.
A viral video prompts a message from a person he doesn’t expect—the talented M. Prophet. Their musical styles are worlds apart, and Seth has no desire to change his style to sell records. But his curiosity—and his attraction to Malakei—wins out.
Malakei can’t get Seth out of his mind. He also can’t come out without ruining his reputation. No matter how much he wants the sexy singer, his only option is to push Seth away. But he’s about to find out Seth isn’t one to give up on what he wants—and he might be just what Malakei needs.
BLMorticia is the alternate personality of Sharita Lira who pens lighthearted stories with beautifully flawed characters, steamy romance, snark, and kink.
Malakei Oakley, aka rapper M. Prophet, is at the top of the music world. Successful rapper and producer, Malakei is young, beautiful, talented and very rich. He seems to have everything in his life except love. Malakei is gay and deep, deep in the closet. He’s too scared to come out, too scared to lose everything he’s built.
Seth “Reaper” Davis, is the lead singer of his band, High Stakes. They start to make a name around their town Birmingham and London, but they still need the little push to be known by the world. When Malakei discovers them on YouTube, he knows things will never be the same for him. Seth will come into his life like a tsunami and will change everything for him. Push by BL Morticia is book one in the Music in Motion series. It’s also the first book that I’ve read from the author.
I adored this book. I completely melted for the characters and the story. Malakei is rich, talented, smart and beautiful, but he’s lonely and deep in the closet. Seth is out and proud, and he’s also stubborn, loud, and speaks his mind without thinking. They are polar opposites, from their origins to their music, everything seems to be a total contradiction between them, but it works for them, their differences don’t push them apart, on contrary, that’s what puts them together. I completely adored them, Seth is definitely my fav because he’s funny, loud and crazy, totally my type. I adored how they were together, how Seth pushes Malakei onto the right path. I also adored that they were a mixed-race couple, I love a book that shows love in all its forms, no matter gender, race or religion.
The writing was good, fluid, and dynamic. The story takes place in front of us easily, and we follow it without difficulty. They were some twists in the book, but nothing crazy, and it serves the plot and the story right. The story focuses on Malakei and Seth, their meeting, their almost insta-love moment and how they became THE couple that the world wants to be.
I happily recommend this book. If you’re in the mood for a good love story, with 2 adorable MCs, this book will do the job, nothing crazy, nothing too heavy just love and music. I will definitely follow this series and the author.
5 OptimuMM for the Reaper and his Prophet!

*´¨✫)High Stakes Love ¸.•´¸.•*´¨)✯ ¸.•*¨) ✮ (¸.•´✶She writes by quite a few pen names, but this author does not hesitate to bring realism and interracial love stories to life and the heat is always worthy of a cold shower time and again. This time around, BL Morticia brings together rapper turn multimillionaire producer Malakei and wanna be internet hard rock singer Seth to push the envelop and give the world what they needed.
Facing the unknown, Seth accepted an invitation to leave Britain and join his group in New York to meet his forever crush Malakei. Only wanting to get a foot in the door to get his band recognized, Seth had no problems being upfront and open. But he could not deny the feelings that radiated whenever he and the millionaire were in the same room.
As deep as he was closeted, Malakei had no problems staying in the dark. But the more time he spent with his protégé, the more he knew that just pushing him to "famedom" would not be enough. What follow was a lesson in loving, helping and surviving love.
I enjoyed this book despite Seth's brash speak. Here was a man who knew what he wanted and not afraid to say it. This book was a mixture of slow burn and fast paced which made it work. There was mystery, suspense and Hollywood showdown. It showed humanity and how life throws curves that sometimes we have no idea how to handle.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
Push makes me want to read everything BL Morticia has ever written immediately. I don't care if I've read it before. I'll read it again. I love everything about the storyline, the characters, and the message inside the text which was a nice bonus I didn't expect from a 'fun read.' I would recommend Push to anyone who reads romance -even if they haven't read M/M before-, anyone interested in seeing people from different walks of life find common ground, and anyone who has ever felt passion for something in their life to the point they'd set themselves aside to see their passion live.
Seth "Reaper" Davies sets up as a pretty hardcore guy who wants to succeed in music badly. He is willing to tell his opinions to anyone in the room with no holds barred. All Seth is about is getting to the point where he can take care of his mom with his music. His focus is one-hundred-percent; I admire him while being able to empathize with his passion all at the same time.
Everyone should be "too passionate" about something once in their lives.
While Seth comes across very 'in-your-face' with his passion, Malakei "M. Prophet" Oakley is the voice of discretion. Kei stole my heart from his first page appearance. He's a gay man who admits he's gay, knows he's gay, has no problem being gay, yet he understands he lives in a world which does not want to admit, know, or be forced to accept he's gay.
Coming out is hard. It's unbelievably hard when you live in a world where "out" isn't "in." My biggest love for this book was in how Morticia handled the relationship between a partner who was "out" and a partner who was still "in the closet." There are people who fall on both sides of the lines in terms of being "out" versus being "closeted." It's a hot-button issue. It can be an issue which is hammered to death by an author with an agenda, but B.L. Morticia wrote the concept as a single hurdle to overcome for them---which is what is should be. That's how it is in many relationships where people are at different points in their lives/careers. I loved how Seth dismissed the idea Kei was ashamed of him or hiding him or pretending he didn't matter enough to be "out" for him since to him?
The choice to be "out" belonged to Malakei alone.
It was his choice.
It should be his choice.
Coming out is a life-changing event. It isn't a simple statement. It isn't simple or easy at all. There's nothing "just" about coming out; I appreciate and respect B.L. Morticia immensely for recognizing this while staying true to her characters and her story at the same time. Seth and Kei have amazing chemistry together in spite of coming from totally different worlds. Seth is younger, out, brazen, and has never experienced success or had to handle a "real job." Malakei is older, still chooses to keep his sexuality to himself, calm under pressure, and has built an empire on his own talent, success, and hard work. Seth is British while Kei is very American; Seth is impulsive while Kei is calculated. These guys come from two different musical genres as Seth is trying to break out as a thrash/metal band while "M. Prophet" became a household name through the rap/hip-hop industry. They've got so much to overcome in terms of differences yet their passion is unmistakable and their love story is unforgettable.
I cannot encourage people enough to read this book if they're looking for a good "When Worlds Collide!" story or a love story filled with passion of all kinds. I think I'd consider my reading year significantly less fulfilling if I hadn't read this book. I won't forget Prophet and Reaper or the message about friendship versus responsibility which is included in their story anytime soon. I'd say more, but I've rambled enough and I don't want to spoil anything at all for any potential readers.
Push is a 100% 5 Star read for me! I hope you consider it for yourself.
Malakei and Seth are hot and sexy together. Their story is filled with drama, humor, sweet moments, sexy times, sad moments, happy 9nents and music. It kept my interest and pulled me in from the beginning.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
Great story of two music performers, one at the top of his game, and one just barely making it. When the two decide to join forces and make music together (in every sense of the word), they are a hit. But there is one catch: Malakei is too deeply hidden in the closet, afraid of what coming out will do to his career. Will he choose his career over the man he loves?
Malakei and Seth are def an opposites attract story done right! omg this book has all the feels, and sexy times too! loved this book and can't wait for book 2! hopefully they have a cameo in it! would def recommend.
Two musical hotties, a closet, fabulous fans, and a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I love this author and the way every word is filled with hidden meaning. I love this book and every page turning moment written.
DNF I wanted to like this book, but I couldn’t get into it. I struggled a lot with the writing style, I hated the way Seth spoke to his friends. I also really hate when authors write supposedly British characters but don’t change their language, amongst other things Seth calls his mum ‘mom’ constantly, actually uses ‘mommy’ as well, refers to the pavement as the ‘sidewalk’ and apparently they watch reruns of Kavanaugh QC which is unusual in that I don’t know a single other British person who watches that. He’s supposed to be from Birmingham. I don’t know, it might not seem like a big thing but I think it would’ve been better for the author to make Seth American too, because his British background has absolutely no bearing on the story. It’s like an after thought that’s been poorly carried out. I think the author potentially googled some Birmingham/English slang and just chucked them in sentences at random but they can’t get the mom/mum thing right?! I also struggled with Malakei, “He kissed all the ladies’ hands and shook the band members’ hands as a gentlemanly display. The women blushed, apparently in awe.” Think that was the moment I decided I couldn’t keep reading, I just hated the writing style. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because I have actually read worse
Push is a story about an infamous rapper who grew up in the hood of Detroit who falls in love with a British heavy metal upstart. These two characters are so incongruous, it made for an uninteresting reading. Malakei, the rapper, is deeply closeted and his personality doesn’t match his background at all. He barely drinks, doesn’t do drugs, won’t even curse. Yet, he falls head over heels and upends his life for Seth, the hard-partying rocker that drinks excessively, smokes, curses, etc. It goes way beyond opposites attract in my opinion. I just didn’t find their chemistry to be authentic, which is the foundation of the plot. Therefore, I never got emotionally invested in their story and so the book turned into a long slog for me.

A great read of instant attraction that leads to a full on relationship. Malakie is already an international hip hop sensation who has now branched out into recording and producing. As he is scrolling through YouTube he comes across High Stakes an up & coming British band and immediately wants to help them succeed by giving them the opportunity to record in his studio and the release the songs. Having the hots for the lead singer is an added bonus for him, even if he is still in the closet. Seth is out, loud and proud. After receiving Malakie’s offer the band and a guest each travel to USA. Seth’s fantasy comes true when he finally meets Malakie after having a huge crush on him for years. Quickly a relationship forms between the two men.

Push is the first book in BL Morticia's Music In Motion series.
I absolutely love and adore Malakei and Seth. The way that they get together, and bond, is well done. And in the bedroom, those men are HOT together! Of course, they struggle with the fact that Malakei is producing Seth's music, and how the world will react if anyone discovers that they are a couple.
This story contains so much more than just the romance, as it also deals with friends who are struggling, someone who is targeting them, homophobia, and the fear of coming out. The men deal with grief, guilt, and more.
Overall, Push is fun, entertaining, romantic and steamy. I can't wait to read what BL Morticia comes up with for book two!
This is an interesting book with a great storyline but it's just an okay read for me. I had a difficult time with Malakei and Seth as they don't make sense as a couple to me. They are so different and I don't see a connection between them at all. Kei spends most of the book agonizing about coming out and it seems unfair to Seth even though he is aware of the situation when they get together. I like Seth and I love the relationship he has with his Mum. The secondary characters are great but I want to know more about the band members. More background information on Seth and Kei would be good too. There is a lot going on in this story and I wish the focus remained on Seth, Kei and Seth's band.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
So very badly written. This is my first book from this author and a big disappointment. For such a prolific and obviously well - liked writer, the style is atrocious and the characters are caricatures. To put it mildly - it's ignorant. The premise is very interesting and I really wanted to get to know this couple, but the execution is poor - perfunctory, lazy, full of errors. Seth's pushiness and his inability to take no for an answer, in particular, are really off-putting. The spark between the characters is non - existent.
He is living the dream with his band but he is lonely and hiding a secret. He is gay. Another is plugging away in small gigs hoping to make it big. They meet and their music is so very different. There is a spark between them. Will his risk his fame to come out as gay? Will he stop the relationship before he gets in too deep? See what he will decide

This is a great story to read about two men in the music industry that come together. Malakei helps bands improve their music. Seth is in a band that gets Malakei's help. Malakei is in the closet and not wanting to come out. Seth is an open gay. Will these two hit it off? What will change? Will they be able to find a way to be happy?

I liked Seth's relationship with his mom, and I found it sweet and endearing. I was totally immersed in the undercurrents of feels between Seth and Malakei. It was so hot and palpable. I love when opposites attract! Great read, and I look forward to the next book.
ooo very good first story in a series.. i enjoyed this and the characters are very well written and enjoyable. i really enjoyed their lives.. and who they are. and then become.. it was a very good story
I love a good opposite attracts story and this is definitely a good one. Malakei and Seth are prefect together. This is just a great read. This is just a beautiful story and I can't wait to see more.
I was disappointed in this story. I could not find the chemestry between these 2 characters at all. In fact at times I did not even like Seth all that much.
Ok – there’s a lot about this I want to say – and I want to be as fair as possible.
1) I thought there were parts that were very compelling – the bias against LGBTQ in hip hop, the reluctance to lose face, the authenticity of the lives led by both MCs and their people 2) I didn’t buy the language used by either MC – it felt too over the top and didn’t feel at all what actual people would say – either to themselves or their families/friends 3) I never liked Seth. Malakei was a sweetie and Seth seemed like an asshole over and over so I never got invested in their relationship. 4) The making out with the ex thing never sat well with me and I didn’t think it needed to be on page 5) I didn’t understand why Seth would have a secret crush on someone everyone thinks is straight and whom he doesn’t really even like musically In the end – though there was a lot about this that had potential I never bought in and as a result I can say I just didn’t like and can’t really recommend it.
... I could not love this novel. I cannot pin down exactly why either. It does have the story and sexy times I love in an m/m novel. But something in its rhythm was off, it felt forced. The love at first sight aspect was just not believable, there was a particular scene that knocked the whole thing off kilter. I hate writing a bad review, and I hate not finishing a book more. I finished reading this book, but I did it as a challenge not a pleasure.
