Waverider sees a possible future for Superman, one where, after an incident with Lois Lane-Kent, he banishes himself from Earth and encounters Maxima in “Beyond the Reach of Time.”

Armageddon 2001 crossover. Upon rereading the entire crossover event, this may be my favorite entry--saying something considering the quality of all of the Superman chapters. The first two dealt with what would happen if the Man of Steel yielded to the temptation of seeking power. This one addresses a realization that he's already far too powerful to be among earthlings (in the most tragic and heartbreaking of ways) and can no longer be among them. It proceeds to explore what it would mean for him to actually court and be courted by someone he wouldn't accidentally endanger, and what results is a very charming love story in its own way.
What a cover! Also, why do they keep killing off Lois?!
Thinking about it, how would the baby even have powers? The sun is what gives Clark his abilities. The baby wasn’t exposed to its rays yet! AND Clark didn’t have his powers right away either (I’m pretty sure).
Of course there is no stated time line of how long it had been since Lois passed but would Clark really be that swift to consider loving someone else?
While I liked the writing, the story itself wasn’t a favourite. At least Waverider is once and for all convinced Superman does NOT become Monarch!
Not one 0f the strongest 0f the Armageddon 2001 crossover Annuals. Louise Simonson stretches out a paper thin plot about Maxima trying to lure Superman as her consort to Annuals length, and 20 year old Bryan Hitch pencils his first (I think) DC work. Although very raw and clearly drawing in an Alan Davis style, Hitch’s work shows promise, though is not helped by 7 different inkers. Great Hitch cover too.
I think Louise Simonson may be the unsung hero of these Armageddon 2001 stories. This one and Detective are the 2 best I've read so far. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have the great Bryan Hitch drawing all the pages for you either.
Só é tolerável até a morte da Louis Lane. O resto é a Máxima agindo como uma garota de 12 anos, um alien aranha corno e o Superman de colante rosa (?).
