Stole this from an Airbnb in Athens. Great top ten guide and I recommend everyone else also steal one from their Airbnb and give their friends the history of Athens
Short, concise, to the point. Everything you want to know about the sights in Athens, including where to eat. Small enough to take along in your pocket and includes a really good, durable map. This will come in handy in future trips to Greece.
This book was useful, but I liked Rick Steves' Athens suggestions better. It's arranged thematically with the top 10 sights in Athens and the top 10 things to see at each of them. The maps were not as detailed as I would have liked. We depended mainly on the one from our hotel which was quite detailed and more convenient to carry.
It wasn't as satisfying as the more detailed Eyewitness guides. And even though it was smaller than those, it was too heavy to carry around for the little info it provided.
Unfortunately, the most this book shares with the Frommer’s Day-by-Day series is the size. The material is not nearly as well organized and there is a serious lack of maps. There are a few suggested itineraries for some of the major attractions/sections of town, and that plus the pictures are the only redeeming quality of this guide.
A good read considering I'm off to Italy and Greece soon. Lots of intersting sites are discussed and it gives me a pretty good overview of the city, it's ancient sites and places to eat.
These "top ten" books are up there with Rick Steves guidebooks- both are excellent resources.
This book as a good place to start to understand the basic layout and highlights. A good jumping off point to google and YouTube for more research or current status. The pull out map in the back is slim and easy to tuck into a purse or pocket.
This book wasn't bad, the top 10 suggestions were spot on and the map was useful - but it didn't compare to the Rick Steve's version. Great pictures but not enough useful information on each site.
Decent travel guide. I am not the biggest fan of travel guides as I feel you can get a lot more information and up to date advice online. I only read travel books if I borrow them from the library.
