This book is a collection of two short stories originally released in multi author anthologies now available together. Luck be a Pirate (first published in the Kiss My Luck Anthology) Luck wasn't something retired pirate Kennet Alexson believed in – good or bad. However, even he had to concede that landing a job at Trentams shipyard, and meeting Lynette Collins, was more than coincidence. Fortune it seemed, was smiling on him for once. As Kennet adjusts to life on dry land, his friendship with Lynette deepens into something far more enduring, and what once seemed elusive now becomes possible. Unfortunately, fate has other plans, and Kennet's good luck is about to run out. The Highwayman's Kiss (first published in the Once Upon a Love anthology) Nothing exciting had ever happened to Juliette St Clair. Her days were spent assisting her father or calling on friends, wandering art galleries, taking constitutionals or, and more preferably, escaping into her books. Her evenings — an endless round of balls, where she preferred to remain invisible. Until the day she was robbed by a highwayman.
In reading this story, I was enjoying the blooming love between Lynette Collins and Kennet Alexson (Ken), when the author hit me with a surprise I did not see coming. It’s so unexpected that it will leave you speechless. I can’t reveal the secret, even Ken had difficulty revealing it, so who am I, mere mortal, to reveal it. Pick up your copy and get ready to be amazed!
The second story in this book is that of Lady Juliette (Juli) and her infamous spectacles. Lady Juliette it appears has been on the shelf for many years and had given up on finding a husband or even finding love, when fate intervenes and handed her not only a husband but one who’s in love with her in the person of Lord Nathaniel. Oh, to be kissed by a highwayman…What utter bliss! It’s a lesson in, never say never!
I love Ms. Chapel's books, she writes beautifully bringing to life a bygone era where life was either gentile or hard. Her females have depth and backbone and these two stories were no different. One, well, lets just say, she moves out of her comfort zone and gives it a paranormal twist. Pirates, a bit of suspense and sweet romance... sigh, what's not to love, especially when done with her usual charm and colourful description. Book 2 gives you an insight into the life of the Ton, dancing, parties and chaperones but again, ads her own unique way of writing. I thoroughly enjoyed both stories and can highly recommend to any who enjoy sweet, regency romance.
