This book is so adorable. The illustrations in watercolour are beautiful. The story is close to Disney's Little Mermaid story, with little modifications. Her sisters are sweeter, she has a grandma and the witch's spell is different, but it's still amazing. It's not the real story; but it's ok. I'm fine with not reading Eric as a arsehole or she having her tongue cut, so I'll keep the kids' version of it in my mind. If you are not completely fluent in Spanish, that's a great start, since it's a kids book. My mom brought me from her trip to Peru, because I fell in love with the cover. I'm a judger, sorry. Anyway, five stars because I've always loved The Little Mermaid (I still believe I'll turn into one), and five stars to the illustrator: Francesca Rossi! Lovely work!
I do enjoy this series of fairy tale retellings for the most part, and know that each time I pick one up I’m going to get some solid writing and storytelling—a longer story than your average picture book.
There’s a consistency across the series, both in writing style and art style, which would make these a great box set for a young reader. This one, though, I’m on the fence about. It’s the Disney version and little about it resembles the proper story (odd, because Rapunzel was done closer to the original). The happy ending is wrong. Characters are wrong. The prince looks like a Hollywood character with big Hollywood teeth.
I did find the Little Mermaid’s dopey face odd. It’s an art style all the princesses have through the various retellings, but occasionally in this one she actually looked like she was drunk!
I’ve always adored this story, but this is far from my favourite version.
I remembered that I loved this story back when I was a kid. But I don’t really remember the storyline lol I still enjoy it now even after I become an adult. The illustrations are cute too. Such and enjoyable read 😊
The title page says that this book is "based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen," but the story clearly takes more inspiration from Disney than from Mr. Andersen, especially considering the happy ending. It would be perfectly fine as a Disney adaptation, but it fails as an Andersen retelling.
Did the writer of this book watch the Disney film and decide to write a simplified version of the story? Because this book certainly read like the author did just that.
Hermosas ilustraciones ✨😉 tiene algo de diferencia con la que normalmente conocemos 🤩☺️🌊 pero esta muy linda y para ser de modo resumen 📖💞 esta bien planteado todo 🙈☀️
