The Beginning

Rate this book
**** Follow Vivian's journey as she grows from a frightened teenager to a hardened militia Commander ******

It started as a long anticipated class trip to Disneyland. Seventeen year old Vivian had a crush on Ryan for weeks and being able to spent time with him away from school seemed like a dream come true. But the dream trip soon turns into a nightmare as people start to attack others and the teenagers. They kill Vivian's father and the only other teacher. In for the fight for her life and stranded with the remnants of the football team in an unknown state, far from home and without any adults, Vivian and her friends try desperately to leave California and get back home. Having to fight zombie like creatures who want nothing more than to kill the teenagers, are not their only worries. Gangs try to take their bus and only with the help of a marine named Colin do they manage to leave California behind and get back home.
Being home does not bring the safety she hopes for though, rumors of aliens sending life altering rain down on Earth are abounded and unfortunately turn out to be true.
Vivian has to change from normal teenage girl to become a fighter in order to stay alive. Fortunately Colin as well as his father and brother are there to help her grow into a person to be reckoned with.
The maniacs, that's what the zombie like creatures are being called, soon turn up in her once peaceful hometown, wreaking havoc on the unsuspecting populace and attacking her high school. Rumors of a looming alien invasion drive more and more of Vivian's friends to become fighters as well. But will a small teenage army be enough to deal with an alien invasion in the middle of a zombie apocalypse?
And if that is not enough, strange plants and wildlife turn up, as well as the temperatures. Is Earth being terraformed?
What other surprises lurk in the dark forests surrounding their hometown?

Okay, let me start by saying that normally, I wouldn't be picking up a teenage zombie apocalypse book. This really isn't my preferred genre. However, the fact that this started with a trip to Disneyland sort of sucked me in.

And surprisingly, it continued to entertain me until the end. It even left me a bit curious about where the story will go from here. However, I just can't give it more than three stars. There were a lot of typos and grammar mistakes - a distracting amount. It desperately needs an editor. Lots of blood and guts... but that's to be expected.

For me, I think the worst part of this whole book was entirely NOT the book's fault. The "zombies" were understandably scary, but it was really the behavior of the uninfected humans that I found disturbing... especially since much too much of it rings true, and compares a bit too closely to the real-life present day pandemic chaos we've been experiencing.

It was just to be a normal school trip but it was not normal in so many different ways. Zombie like creatures try to attack them and even taking their ride. She thinks getting home would be better but it is even worse. What has happened? How will things go? See how their fight for life goes

This is a page-turner and a super compelling book. I was pulled in from the first page and could not put the book down. Amazing story that is well-written and original. I can hardly wait for the next book.
