All That Remains

Rate this book
Federal Agent Lucas Beaumont has an agenda—get himself assigned to the case of the apparent serial murders at Lancaster Falls, find out who the murderer is, and then lay the ghosts that haunt his grandfather to rest. In the midst of a horrific murder investigation, the only peace he gets is from simple moments in a warm kitchen, talking to hotel owner, Josh. Attraction to the easygoing man is something he didn’t expect; in doing so, he opens himself to hurt, but at the same time, he begins to fall in love.

Josh is struggling to keep the Falls Hotel, even with every cent he has invested in its upkeep. The one thing keeping him above water is the not entirely legal work he does on the side—a steady income that not even his son knows about. When the FBI takes over his hotel for the duration of the Hell’s Gate serial killer case, Josh is faced with the real possibility that Lucas will not only discover his secret but also steal his heart.

When tragedy hits Josh and his son, and when it seems all hope is lost, can Lucas rescue them both?

If I thought the killer was impossible to find in the first two books...that was doubled about a thousand-fold in this one, the last of the trilogy. This one also creates and explores the relationship between Josh, the hotel owner, and Lucas, one of the FBI agents in town to follow up on the case of the bodies discovered in a sinkhole. I am the world champion when it comes to reading books out of order but believe me that you absolutely have to read these three in order to ever begin to understand what is going on with the characters and with the story. The story is suspenseful and the crisis moments compelling. There is also more romance in this one but be aware that they are same sex. You can get a hint of who the killer is, but it happens fairly late in the book, and the way the author leads up to the revelation does not prepare you for how viciously depraved and determined they actually are. In a nutshell, this was a wonderfully done series, (trilogy), with loving, delightful, warm, believable characters. The twists and turns were both heartbreaking and very bizarre, definitely making it a keep on reading page turner.

As far as the mystery goes, this was the best of a damn good series. RJ Scott managed to completely fool me, because I had no idea who the bad guy was, I was completely shocked.

As far as the romance goes, it wasn't bad. Just as in book 2, much more time went into the investigation than the actual romance. I liked both Josh & Lucas *and I loved Harry, Josh's son ❤* but I just wasn't that invested in them and the conflict between them felt a little unnecessary.

Still, I really enjoyed the book, thanks so much to TheHappyLittleElf, better known as Gustaf! 💖

TheHappyLittleElf shared some of that happy with me by giving me this awesome book!! Thankyou thankyou, I know I’m going to love it! 😘 ✨

The final instalment of the “Lancaster Falls trilogy” : Not a standalone at all, obviously.

What a *great conclusion / resolution* of the plague and secrets shadowing the small town of Lancaster Falls and which shattered the lives of many of its inhabitants. All the pieces finally fit together in a dreadful picture. The angst is there but not overwhelming as most of the horrors are suggested but, thanks for small favors, not graphic.

As for the pace, well-done with the author spreading clues bit by bit to raise the readers’ suspicion about the whodunnit and sharing the shock-wave it would create.

When it comes to the romance part, I was a little bit disappointed with the relationship between Josh and Lucas : it was really on the back-burner while I wouldn’t have minded for more on-page depths, just like it was with Sawyer and Chris, or with Logan and Drew.

Nonetheless, “All That Remains” was gripping for the suspense part, so well done, that I give 4 well-deserved stars for the whole trilogy. For those who like romantic suspense, it's worth a try.

What a messed up small town. Like really.

In book 1 and 2 I actually liked Josh. Here around 44% I hit a wall with him. After that I couldn't find empathy for him. So I really didn't like Josh. I always have problem with characters with this high level of rage, that they feel justified in expressing it. I didn't like Drew either, because of that.

Then there was the whole drama with his side work. I was just rolling my eyes at Josh's claim that he was a good guy. And that there was nothing wrong with what he did, but you know he needed to keep it secret.

Lucas really didn't stand out. He was better than Josh though.

So the mystery got solved in this book. It was truly crazy. I actually did figure out who was the main bad guy, although there was plenty of bad guys to go around. It was something he said to Drew in book 2, that made me think of him. There was a lot that I didn't figure out.

I wanted to see the mystery solved. I would have skipped the romance part. It probably would have been better as a pure mystery. All the 3 romances were super fast and not very believable.

And here it is, the end to the story of Lancaster Falls and the dark secrets taking place there. In this book we meet Lucas for the first time, a federal agent with his own agenda to being in Lancaster Falls. His agenda does not involve meeting and falling in love with Josh. The hotel owner and best friend of Sawyer and Drew. Josh has been the constant nice guy in this series but in this book we learned that he had some secrets of his own.

I'm not going to lie, I was a bit tired in the middle of this book. Tired of everything being crazy. Tired of not knowing what was going on and being lead astray. Just in book two, the romance took second seat to the mystery and while it might have been necessary to the story I missed the balance of book one.

If you’ve been reading this series...

...as I and some of my friends have or even if you’ve been waiting for the final installment…this is it folks…this is the one we’ve all been waiting for the final installment in RJ Scott’s ‘Lancaster Falls’ trilogy.

I can’t and don’t presume to speak for anyone else but for me ‘this was it’ this was the ending that I’ve been waiting for. I know the first two books left us sitting on a cliff wondering ‘WTF?’ along with so many other questions but it’s all here.

I did a bit of procrastinating when it came to my rating for this one because honestly, I was somewhere in the 4-4.5 star range and then I asked myself ‘What didn’t you like?’ and I really couldn’t think of anything that didn’t work for me but most of all I remembered my husband chuckling as he sat beside m while I mumbled “Dammed author made me cry. She wasn’t suppose to make me cry.” and that made me realize that this one was without a doubt for me a 5 star read because while it’s not an impossible task if you leave me crying a the end of a story you’ve made a connection to me that not every story makes.

I loved that it wasn’t until the very end of this one that I knew for sure who did it. Not that I hadn’t suspected them at a couple of different times during the story but the author crafted a story that very deftly led me away from suspects as well as leading me to them thus leaving me with doubts about one suspect as I was being drawn to another…that to me is what a good mystery does. So I loved that part of this series the never knowing and always guessing is exactly how it should be.
I loved all of the characters Sawyer & Chris, Logan & Drew and now Josh & Lucas and the cast of a small town that surrounded them. But what or maybe I should say who made me cry was Lucas’s grandfather Brody. While he wasn’t so much a part of the story as the motive for Lucas to go to Lancaster Falls.

It was the final scene between Lucas and his grandfather where Lucas is able to give his grandfather the closure that has eluded him for years that I felt the tears on my cheek as I imagined Lucas’s sense of bittersweet contentment and satisfaction at having been able to do this for his grandfather even if he would only remember what his grandson told him for a moment. I think anyone who’s ever had the experience of a loved one suffering from any form of dementia won’t have a hard time understanding how Lucas felt.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series but without a doubt “All That Remains” was the star of the series. In part because it wrapped everything up in a way that felt realistic. This is a town that’s been through some horrific times and I wasn’t left with the impression that everything was sunshine and roses but that collectively as a community they would with time and effort pull on their big boy panties and start again to remake what got torn apart in the aftermath of events and that while Sawyer, Drew and Josh had found the men they loved they were the ones who would fix their lives and the men they loved would be there to offer their love and support.

“Lancaster Falls” has without a doubt been one of my favorite series in a while I’ve looked forward to and enjoyed every one of these stories and have every intention of enjoying them again.

Good ending for the series, we finally solve the mysteries...all of them. This gives this book an extra star!
Josh had more layers to him in this book, and Lucas seemed like a tortured soul to me. Maybe Josh and this little town is what he needed. Hopefully they won't have another serial killer anytime soon. The number of dead bodies and bones is alarmingly high so this tiny place.

Sad about Cas though...what an ending.

coffee, donuts, hot chocolate, nosy neighbors, creepy mend and happy endings

Side note, the narrator was popular and everywhere years ago, then was gone and now back..where did he go?

A stunning conclusion to a great series.

Before I start my review, I have to say that I think this series showcases some of RJ Scott's best writing. It's a bit more intense and different from her other books, and you do need to read them in order, but OMG I think the writing and attention to detail and how deviously twisty the stories have been is magnificent.

This book finally wraps up all of the loose ends from books one and two while introducing a new MC, Lucas, an FBI agent who has a personal interest in what's been discovered in Lancaster Falls. Josh is the owner of the Falls Hotel and Lucas ends up making it the FBI's base of operation, taking over all of the rooms in the hotel.

Josh and Lucas grow close but Josh has a secret that may sorely impact his budding relationship with Lucas – I never saw this coming from anything I remember reading in the first two books. There is so much going on in this story that my brain may have exploded just a bit (in a good way) and it certainly kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I read it.

All That Remains is a bit on the gory side (it didn't bother me) and I only mention it to alert readers that there are more shocking bits than I'm used to in an RJ Scott book. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad thing at all – I repeat I think this series is one of her best.

While I had my suspicions about who the bad guy was at about the 60% mark it absolutely wasn't because of anything that RJ gave away in her writing. It was strictly a WAG (wild ass guess) on my part. Even with this suspicion I was still blown away when things started coming to a stunning conclusion.

If I have one tiny criticism it would be that I would have liked a bit more – but I always want more when it's a book I love. 😊 The epilogue was fantastic but I guess I felt kind of invested in the town and wanted to know more about the after effects of all that went down. I would love to read a short story about all three couples and how the town is doing a year or so down the road.

A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

I've given this a B- for narration and a C- for content at AudioGals.

All That Remains is the third and final book in RJ Scott’s series of romantic suspense novels set in the small Pennsylvania town of Lancaster Falls, and it neatly wraps up the overarching mystery storyline begun in What Lies Beneath and continued through Without a Trace. Even though I was disappointed with both the story and narration in the latter book, I decided to listen to All That Remains in hopes that Without a Trace had been suffering from middle-book-itis, and that the series finale would be a stronger listen. Plus, I wanted to find out whodunit!

The series has an overarching plot, so if you still like the sound of it after reading my reviews (!) then this isn’t the place to start. There are spoilers for the previous books in this review.

The discovery of several sets of human remains in a sink hole in Lancaster Falls leads to speculation that one of the bodies is that of Casey McGuire, a young man who went missing a decade earlier, and whose disappearance is still felt keenly by all in the community. The previous book (Without a Trace) focused on the investigation as to whether or not Casey was one of the murder victims and who might have killed him; All That Remains picks up the story shortly after the events of that book, when an FBI team headed by Special Agent Lucas Beaumont arrives in the town to work the investigation into what looks like a string of serial murders of young women.

Lucas has a personal reason for wanting to work the case as well. His grandfather – a former agent himself – believes that the woman he loved (and with whom he had an affair years earlier) may have been one of the victims, and Lucas, who is devoted to his Grandpa Toby, wants to try to obtain some measure of peace for the old man, whose health is failing due to Alzheimer’s.

The other main character is Josh Baker, who owns the local hotel and who has been best friends since childhood with chief of police Sawyer Wiseman and Drew McGuire, Casey’s brother. Josh is a single parent, raising his teenaged son Harry on his own, and doing a good job of it. But the business is struggling and has been for a little while; Josh would like to sell up and do something else, but because the hotel is a money pit, he continues to accept well-paying cyber-security jobs (he’s a White Hat hacker) so he can keep a roof over his and Harry’s heads until he can sell the place.

The day he arrives in town, Lucas has to hit the ground running as the body of another murder victim – Adam Gray, a veteran and survivalist who lived just outside town – is found and he, Sawyer, Drew and Logan (Sawyer’s second-in-command) go out to Gray’s home to investigate. Not long after this, more bodies start piling up as one by one, leading figures in the community are violently killed. While Lucas and his FBI team work to try to identify the victims of the earlier crimes, Sawyer and his team investigate the current spate of murders – and together they try to work out if there is any the two sets of crimes could be connected.

Well, I did find out whodunnit – although I’d worked it out long before the end, mostly because all the other suspects were killed off during the course of the book! But the book is full of inconsistencies and I didn’t find the compelling story I’d hoped for. The mystery is severely underdeveloped and lacking in any urgency or tension. There are no clues laid out for the characters or listeners to follow which would actually enable us to draw any conclusion as to the identity of the villain, who eventually reveals their identity towards the end and then does that whole baddie monologuing thing while we wait for the cavalry to arrive and save the day. (My personal theory is that they probably got so fed up watching all these supposedly intelligent cops and FBI agents running in circles and getting nowhere that they couldn’t stand the stupid any more!)

And then there’s the (non) romance. Romantic suspense should achieve a good balance between those two elements, and sadly, that doesn’t happen here. We get 95% suspense and 5% romance – and I use that term very loosely. There’s an instant attraction between Josh and Lucas which leads to some kissing and eventually a quick sex scene, but there’s no chemistry between them, and although the relationship develops over a few weeks, pretty much everything about it is told and not shown. They spend time together, they talk, they have a lot of sex (we only get one or two scenes), they sleep in each other’s arms and are basically all lovey-dovey, but we are never SHOWN any of it. It’s just mentioned in passing. The ILYs are thrown in at the end (following a clichéd near-death experience) and when, in the epilogue, Sawyer basically gives Lucas a job… well, I didn’t buy that either.

Sean Crisden is a very talented narrator, and his name on the cover of an audiobook is always going to get my attention, but although I enjoyed his narration in this book more than in the previous one, it still isn’t his best work. His pacing is fine, his character differentiation is excellent throughout, and I was really impressed by his range of characterisations; every single character sounds distinct, no matter how small a role they have. He does a great job capturing the personalities of the two leads, too, Josh’s natural good humour and exuberance, and Lucas’ more reserved, considered manner evident in their speech, and he carries those traits over into their narration PoV rather than just reverting to a single “narrator voice”. His portrayal of Harry is also spot on. But his skill in those areas can’t quite disguise an overall lack of energy or engagement with the characters and story, which I realise may have more than a little to do with the lacklustre material.

The first book in the series – What Lies Beneath – is undoubtedly the best one, but the overarching plot means having to wade through two not so great books in order to reach a resolution. There are a lot of really excellent m/m romantic suspense series around right now, but sadly, the Lancaster Falls trilogy isn’t one of them.

3.5 stars - I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This is a satisfying conclusion to the Lancaster Falls Trilogy. The third book focuses on hotel owner Josh and FBI agent Lucas. With the body count rising in Lancaster Falls, Lucas provides Sawyer’s team with the federal assistance necessary to finally get the answers the town needs.

I will admit that I was a little bit reluctant to continue with this trilogy after the slightly bizarre events in the second book. The third book is only slightly more plausible but it is an exciting read that does manage to provide readers with closure. This is probably the goriest book of the three with grizzly new murders complicating Sawyer’s cold case investigation. The pieces do eventually fit together but my reactions remain mixed. Oddly, the whodunnit is both too obvious and not completely credible. It’s ultimately a satisfying, suspenseful read - if readers don’t think too hard about various details.

I always struggle a bit with romantic suspense - the idea of two leads falling for each other while chasing a serial murderer is always a little bit difficult for me to process. I did enjoy the romance in this book. Josh and Lucas make sense together and while the focus of the book remains on the investigation, there are enough heated moments between these two that readers will be cheering them on to their HEA.

Josh owns the hotel in Lancaster Falls. It’s a money sink and his questionable dealings on the dark web are the only thing that’s keeping him afloat. He doesn’t expect his unexplainable feelings for the FBI agent that walks in to the hotel.

Logan comes to the small town to investigate the the skeletal remains dumped in the local reservoir. At his first sight of Josh he is gob smacked by the man.

This was a wonderfully done series with this book being the best. The twists and turns both heartbreaking and bizarre definitely made it a page turner. I want to share everything, but do actually know better. I figured out whodunnit fairly early on but was still surprised by the conclusion. Please read the series in order to enjoy it best.

Finally got round to reading this one, LOVED it, I think I'm having a totally ditzy day as I had no idea who it was until...well...when I did lol! Fabulous end to a brilliant trilogy.

Also can I just give some kudos to the wonderful Meredith Russell who totally killed it with the covers to this series.

The book 3 of Lancaster Falls series is a final part concluding the story of the disappearance of a young boy and the murders of several women in a small and quiet town. This time the main characters are Josh, friend number three, hotel owner and young father, and Lucas, FBI agent who came to help with investigation. The body count is rising and the interest to whatever is happening in the books is falling!
I am pretty bad with writing about books i liked, it is much easier for me to criticise. And that's exactly what i am planning to do now.

So in overall two main components of the story - romance and mystery - were unsatisfactory and did not live to their potential. The story was promising, book 1 was pretty good, but then it all went downhill and the author did not manage for other books to be on the same level as book 1 firstly bcz romance partially felt like copy paste of the romance in book 1 but unlike book 1 you do not really feel it anymore and secondly cz the mystery was not held well enough, the same as with the romance, rather than showing us and leading in the right direction, author just told us the answer.
My rating is 2.5 out of 5 cz the narrative and style was not bad and even though i found millions of excuses to drop reading it and do smth else and dragged this experience for 4 days i still finished it.

The time has come to an end for the evil that possesses Lancaster Falls, Pennsylvania! The sorted truth reveals itself as the good old boys’ network that once held the town in its grip, meets its demise. The conclusion of What Lies Beneath revealed Casey McGuire’s fate while Without a Trace provided the details; both leaving death and destruction in their wake. All That Remains by RJ Scott is the wrap up to her Lancaster Falls Trilogy. It brings closure to the once backwater town of Lancaster Falls. But first, the vile motive behind the ghastly events causes more pain and suffering for the town, leaving its inhabitants reeling from the heinous acts plaguing it.

The series of murders in Lancaster Falls has drawn the attention of the FBI and Federal Agent Lucas Beaumont is assigned to the case. Actually, he requests the assignment, having a personal motive in doing so. His grandpa needs closure for the woman, the love interest, who went missing. What Lucas didn’t bargain for was the intense connection he feels to the owner of the Falls Hotel, and his son.

Josh Baker & son Harry are just trying to survive. Unease is ever present in the wake of the devastation that has descended upon their town. Josh is barely making ends meet and his dream for a good life for his son, the hotel, is in disrepair and in jeopardy. However, Josh is a numbers and computer whiz. Secretly, accepting white hat hacker jobs and traversing some of the seedier parts of the web, allows Josh to keep his dream alive. But, for how long?

Got to tell you I didn’t see this ending coming. Three books with three crime sprees building a case for the Hell’s Gate serial killer, all wreaking mayhem on Lancaster Falls, and NOPE!...

The connection between Josh and Lucas is instant. Their late-night chats only build their bond. But Lucas is on assignment and he can’t get involved with someone potentially related to the case. Josh fears that his secret that skirts the edges, while not exactly breaking the law, will be an issue for the strait-laced FBI agent. With the case gaining momentum, frustrations build, and fears escalate. Thankfully, Lucas and Josh turn to each other for comfort. Will they have a future when the case wraps up? Afterall, Lucas is a city boy and Josh is at home in his little town.

Got to tell you I didn’t see this ending coming. Three books with three crime sprees building a case for the Hell’s Gate serial killer, all wreaking mayhem on Lancaster Falls, and NOPE! Not even on my radar. The scenarios playing out in my mind, never came close to the motives driving the cruel and deranged perpetrator. But I loved every minute spent in Lancaster Falls and even felt a tinge of familiarity when locations close by me were mentioned.

To get the full impact you absolutely have to read the trilogy in order. Each installment, including the All That Remains conclusion, focuses on a different couple and their budding relationship, yet each build on the mystery engulfing the town. There is humor, sadness, regret, love and even bits of gore. One of the men from each couple continues to play a major role as the story evolves with their partners having cameo roles, tying each of them together seamlessly into the storyline. The Lancaster Falls series as a whole is magnificent!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

The final installment of the Lancaster Falls Trilogy is go gripping. Solving the mystery of the killer of the 30 years old remains becomes even more pressing as prominent members of the town are being violently murdered and their long held secrets exposed. The tension builds bit by bit, our heroes are in danger and eventually all the pieces all into place and our killer is revealed. And all I can say is I did NOT see that coming. And I love that I didn't guess who the killer was and that I was on edge as I turned the pages. So good.

Among the fantastic mystery/suspense story there is also a lovely romance. FBI agent Lucas comes to town to assist in the murder investigation and stays at Josh's motel. The attraction between them is instant and sexy glances and late night conversations turn into kisses and more. With so much going on in the town they have each other to turn to for support.

Once again RJ Scott mixes murder and romance and comes up with a great story. While I was excited to get to the end to find out who did it, I was sad that my time with people of Lancaster Falls was over but I know this is a series that will be on my re-read list.

Took me ages to read. I wanted to like it but book one was the only one I enjoyed. It had so much promise but the second and this one had overdone & illogical plots and the romances were lost in an excess of detail. She’s just become too hit or miss for me.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This has been a really excellent series - you absolutely have to read it in order, or truly you will not get the underlying story at all! Thankfully things finally come together in this installment, and R.J.Scott has really come up with a complex and intriguing mystery, with a rather mind-blowing reveal at the end. I found it to be peeled away at exactly the right pace, and with each layer giving another possibility until finally we get to the heart of the evil that has been going on all too long in Lancaster Falls!

The romance is also very enjoyable, with FBI special agent Lucas falling for hotel owner, father and Oops! white hat hacker) Josh. Lots of complications with this being anything more than a short term fling, and yet it is a very sweet and smooth journey most of the way. We also get to catch up with the relationships which formed in earlier books, and see how all their lives have improved thanks to having a stable and loving home life.

I would definitely recommend this series, and now that you can read it all, cliffhanger free.

Phew, you know what they say, that the darkest secrets often hide in plain sight… I was not expecting that ending!

I have read all the Lancaster Falls series, each one better than the other. I loved the continuity of the people involved, and the anticipation of finding out who the killer was. In this book there is a further emphasis on just how much quiet small town life can be shattered by murder, intrigue, and abuse. I truly felt for Sawyer, (MC from first book), his pain and heartbreak leapt from the page. He needed lots and lots of hugs.

The love interests in this book were Josh and FBI agent, Lucas. I loved their growing relationship, they were opposites in many ways, but so well matched. I very quickly became engrossed in both their relationship and the story, and enjoyed all the twists and turns and red herrings, I only wish there was another book in the series, I needed more closure.

Once I started the story, I really couldn't put it down. I loved the characters and personal interaction between them all. It was a good ending, thrilling and unexpected. The series is a good example of just how diverse Ms Scott is as a writer. Highly recommend the whole Lancaster Falls series.

The Lancaster Falls trilogy wraps up with this thriller that keeps readers guessing ’til the very end. Scott takes her trademark romance and spins it in suspense; resulting in a pulse-pounding, dramatic, multi-faceted mystery that spans all three novels and results in a deliciously satisfying wrap-up in All That Remains. Each of the three books has a delightfully satisfying romance but a cliff-hanger as pertains to the mystery. This third instalment completes the series, wraps up all the puzzles and delivers a third delightful romantic story.

Readers get to know Josh and his son Harry even better throughout this book. We learn how Josh wound up owning/running the hotel, and how he ended up being a young single dad. We also get to witness the delightful romance build between Josh and FBI agent Lucas. Despite the chaos in Lancaster Falls, their relationship takes root and is a thing of beauty.

Side characters keep the story fresh (think Grandma Garton with her casseroles and Nicky Farmer with her gossip) while previous couples (Logan and Drew, Sawyer and Chris) while family (Marco and his parents Luca and Chloe) make the small-town feel good (despite all the trauma).

I take back my two meltdowns about the unsolved mystery with this satisfying conclusion. Scott continues to amaze.

The first two books in this awesome series set the scene for this, book 3, the climax of all that’s happened in Lancaster Falls. What a climax!
It’s like a cross between Broadchurch (all the intrigue and conspiracies) and Midsommer Murders(sheer number of bodies)inhabited by men who love men.
In her letter at the end Rj mentions the inspiration for the Lake came from Ladybower Dam and having walked that area when the water levels are low with the church spire standing proud of the water, I can really see the creepiness and atmosphere.
Through this book we meet Lucas newly out of the office and a bit apprehensive, watch him become confident and assertive in his FBI role. We reconnect with Josh, find out he has secrets he’s not proud of. Watch these two fall in love while carnage surrounds them. Is heart warming, and sexy.
They have their ups and downs on the way to their HEA. But it’s worth the journey.
Add in Sawyer and Chris, Logan and Drew, of course Harry plays a big part, the rest of the dwindling community and you have a rollercoaster ride.

3.5 rounded up to 4. A romance wrapped around a hunt for a serial killer. I liked the romance (FBI guy and the hotel owner with a son in the small town where the murders are taking place). The FBI guy is "by the book" straight, the hotel guy maybe a little bit shady in that he is a "white hat" who hacks other peoples' computers to find out security flaws and is paid handsomely for his efforts. These "white hats" are not generally looked upon favorably by the FBI. So some conflict with the love birds.

It was the serial killer and everyone involved in the investigation that threw me a little. The writing style in this book seemed to be bringing up details related to the murders and then skip to something or someone else so your train of thought went from focusing on the murders to focusing on who was that character again?, back to the romance, etc. I'll admit toward the end I was unsure of the relationship between all the characters and my interest wained a little in even the murder mystery.
