The Creation of Eve

Rate this book
She isn’t sure which is worse—not knowing who she is, or learning the truth.

After waking up naked and alone but with no memory of her past, the girl called Ann would rather not know what happened to her. The horrific scars covering her body tell a tale of terror she is sure she would rather forget forever. But to the doctors and benefactors overseeing her care, the possibly sordid details of her past are too enticing to ignore. She is forced to undergo a hypnosis session to unlock the secrets of her past.

But once that door is open, it is impossible to close.

The memories Ann recall are scant except for one—her name is Eve. And the man who inflicted the damage upon her body gave her that name. One at a time, the doors of Eve’s mind open, and she cannot help but walk through them, revealing horror after horror until she is no longer sure who the real monster is.

Fans of Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein and Margret Atwood’s Alias Grace are sure to love this blend of Gothic and horror from the pen of Leigh Anderson.

This retelling of Frankenstein's Monster is an excellent story, beautifully written and i really recommend it to anyone who likes gothic tales, retellings, or just something a little different. I really hope the author writes more twisted retellings, as this was an excellent story, and I'd definitely like to read more!
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

Anne Banks was found wearing a light shift in Banks Street, a rather unsavoury part of town, and nothing else. She has no memory of who she is, how she got there nor what happened to her before that. Her body is riddled with scars and it was thought that whatever abuse she was subjected to, it must have caused her to block out the memories. Several wealthy benefactors pay for her keep at the local asylum, in the hope that they may find her kin who may well be wealthy people too, as it was quite possible, judging from her hands, face and feet that she was probably a gentlewoman. They decide to call her Anne Banks, in honour of the place where she was found.

But the more they probe, the more stubbornly the doors to her memories remain shut, until Dr Carver tries a new technique called hypnosis, which unleashes a whole host of snippets of memories, all jumbled and mixed as if from different lives or people, frightening, intense and confusing. But one thing is sure, her name is not Anne Banks, it is Eve. An intriguing, exciting story, heart warming and heart breaking in parts. I did enjoy it very much, thank you Leigh for the ARC. This is my honest review.

A chilling thriller

Set in Victorian England, The Creation of Eve is a twist and potential continuation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein as interpreted by Leigh Anderson. The story starts with Ann, a woman with no memories, who meets with Dr. Carver, a hypnotherapist, at the request of her benefactors. As the story progresses Ann becomes Eve, Eve becomes independent and is determined to find the truth while not becoming the monster. There are many ups and downs while Eve finds herself and the secrets to her past, leading to discoveries of who she was, is and wants to be.

Pieces💔 of Memories

Historical Paranormal and Horror
Eve💃💋 wakes up in a hospital with recent scars around her neck, shoulders and hips. She doesn't know who she is, but it's obvious she has recently been through severe trauma!

Over time, bits and pieces of memories return to her but everything is mixed up. She has memories of several different women!

ARC Received from Booksprout🌱
I also got the book with KU.

What an interesting and well written book! I don't normally read horror so this was a first for me.

This was was so good that I struggled to put it down at night to go to bed. Eve was such a complex character, and was so well written, that the whole story felt like it could really happen. It pulled me in and it was hard to put down until I finished. This is one of the best books I've read in a while! I've never read Frankenstein, but from what I know this is a similar tale but from a female point of view. It was very creative, well written, and just an overall amazing book!

I’ve previously not read any work by Leigh Anderson but I’m my goodness if her other work is anything like this I’m hooked. The Creation of Eve was so spellbinding I just couldn’t put it down! You’re taken on a journey along with ‘Ann’ or Eve as she tries to discover who she is. The emotions she experiences.. you’re like right there with her. The twists the story takes.. this is the type of story you don’t want to end n just want to know more. This book will definitely be on my reread shelf.

A very good mixture of mystery, gothic, and horror.

I couldn't put this down. I finished it at one in the morning. Eve is a wonderful and complex character. She removed all obstacles, as she tries to discover her identity. I am happy for her when she finds more clues and answers, and sad for her as she experiences and discovers tragedies.
This is an excellent story including elements of Frankenstein.

I have read a few retelling of Frankenstein's monster but this was by far my favorite. This is an incredibly creative story with enough horror to suit me but not too much to give me nightmares. As a Frankenstein fan (remember, Frankenstein was the doctor, his creation was the monster), this retelling fit in with a great Saturday night page-turning (don't sleep until I'm finished) book.

I have never read this type of story from the view of the “monster”. I absolutely loved the book and fell in love with the main character Eve. This was such an easy read, but at the same time you became invested in how the story was turning out. Definitely a good book!

Narrated by Ann Banks (Eve), Andersen sets her story shortly after the death of Prince Albert.
Andersen's plot draws inspiration from Mary Shelley's classic Gothic novel.
There is also a movie: The Bride, starring Sting as Frankenstein, that has a similar theme.

I’m always on the lookout for Bride of Frankenstein stories. This is the third one I’ve read and my favorite so far. It reminds me of the movie “The Bride” mixed with the movie “Patchwork”, but still managed to not be predictable.
