When her father's will leaves control of the family ranch to Ryder Malone, the very same man who once broke her heart, Sierra Morgan is more than a little upset. The last time she saw Ryder she shot his hat right off his head, earning herself a long, hard spanking on her bare bottom that left her sore yet helplessly, infuriatingly aroused, and she had hoped to never see him again.
Ryder has not gotten over Sierra, and this time he isn't going to let her run off without giving him a chance to tell her how he feels, even if that means lassoing her and tying her to a chair.
If she wants to inherit the ranch she loves, Sierra will have to work alongside Ryder for a year and convince him she is ready to run it. Though she plans to spend that year making his life a living hell, when she pushes the stern, handsome cowboy too far she soon ends up over his knee again. But this time her body's response to his dominance cannot be ignored, and when Ryder takes her in his arms and claims her thoroughly Sierra is left in no doubt that she belongs to him.
Sierra is not used to doing as she is told, however, and when she is reckless with her safety she quickly discovers that Ryder will not hesitate to punish her in ways that leave her cheeks blushing crimson and her bottom sore both inside and out. His stern, shameful correction merely increases her need for him, but once the ranch is finally hers, will she still want him by her side?

I had major issues with the hero of Taming His Cowgirl. Ryder has been pining for Sierra for years after a classic big misunderstanding led to the end of their engagement. And he worked to reform his life and himself because of that. But once he finally gets back together with Sierra, he turns into the proverbial alphahole, immediately knowing what’s right for Sierra without talking to her and gaining her direct and unforced consent.
I liked Sierra—she’s wild and at times inconsiderate, but she’s also hardworking, smart, and truly pulls her weight on her ranch. And those facts are strangely unacknowledged by those around her in Taming His Cowgirl. Sierra’s father plays a fairy godmother role in arranging for Ryder to have control of Sierra’s family ranch after his death, the employees at the ranch immediately accept Ryder’s command over Sierra—there’s just a suspension of disbelief required here that I struggled with and that undermined the great job James did in setting up Sierra as a person.
But most problematic is that Sierra has no agency in the domestic discipline setup that Ryder instantly enforces with her once they reconnect. He just decides he’s doing this, and what consent he gains, particularly in one more extreme scene, is dubiously earned at best in the middle of punishments. All that did was enhance the negative feelings I had towards Ryder. And that no one champions Sierra was just a bit too convenient. I would have loved for someone to take her side so that the merits of Ryder’s tactics could have been further explored and, more importantly, justified.
I also think a major subplot about saving wild horses needed more explanation—the issue with them being moved onto other lands was not clearly conveyed (to this non-rancher reader).
So when you add up a Big Mis setup, a problematic hero, and an underappreciated heroine, you’ve got an imbalance in the relationship at end of the book. James has written some wonderful books, such as her Wayward Mates series. Alas, I can’t put Taming His Cowgirl in the same category.
I was enjoying this because the female wasnt just a wimp and stood up for herself and fought the crappy deal she got from her dead dad. She ran that ranch better than any man. It was her ranch and she didnt need anyone to take care of her and she had more than proven that. So she was standing up for herself and then after he forces himself on her instead of showing some respect for herself after he had disrespected her and him acting like its just a huge joke to him then shes falling all over him like a senseless schoolgirl allowing him to get away with his total disrespect instead of walking out on him until he apoligized to her. No shes all I am sorry when she had nothing to be sorry for. Hes the one thinking and acting like hes all better than her. And claiming her ranch for himself when it was her ranch not his. And she just hands it to him. She just gives in to him as if she owed him something when she didnt. She should have respected herself enough to have held out for a few weeks instead of barely a day before jumping in the sack with him. With no apology from him or for STEALING her ranch. Its obivious thats all he wanted. If he had really loved her he would have never went along with him getting the ranch tbat she deserved. So he treats her like crap and she just loses all her self respect and crawls for him while everyone laughs at her at what an easy lay she is and a pushover because she didnt make him work to win her back. As soon as she got away from him she should have left him alone in the shack and let him stew about it instead of adding to his over inflated ego. As if she couldnt survive without him screwing her. He isn't the only man in the world. Plenty of Dom sub relationships exist without a woman having to lose her ego and self respect . And treating a woman like mindless scum. I thought that this was going to be one of those and where the guy would have to work to win back her respect. It wasnt.

Sierra turns from fiesty to fawning just because Ryder offers an explanation for what she saw. Then she apologizes for the rest of the book. It doesn't make any sense. He knew she thought he had cheated, and then he left for 5 years. Those years would have changed her. It would have been far more difficult for her to trust anyone again. Ryder would have had to work very hard to earn Sierra's trust back. 2 stars for the beginning; it was entertaining.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I really enjoyed it. The storyline is good and easy to follow and the emotions can be felt by the reader as you turn the pages. Even though this has a domestic Discipline storyline, there are hot, erotic moments and there are sweet moments. Will Ryder ever tame Sierra? And will Sierra come to fully trust Ryder? I loved this book and now I'm off to read Luc's story! Psssst............ get this book!
Enjoyed this book immensely. Ryder is a smoking hot cowboy who really had to work hard for Sierra. This story is an emotional journey that travels from the past into the current day. The author does a great job of laying out the backstory while engaging the reader in what is happening now. If you like a sexy romantic cowboy story this is the one for you. Read thru the KU program.
I was hooked from beginning to end reading this story. There were even times I found situations emotional and others had me laughing out loud. The chemistry between the two main characters, Ryder Malone and Sierra Morgan sizzled off the pages, you couldn’t help but cheer for them to make things work—but it wasn’t always an easy ride.
The story has mystery, suspense, broken hearts, resentment, anger, angst, and shock. How could her father add the caveat to his will giving Ryder control of the ranch for at least a year? Knowing how she and Ryder ended five years before, this is like a knife in her back and breaking her heart.
The relationship between Ryder and Sierra is a roller-coaster ride of puppy love, to falling in love, planning a wedding, and then devastation that she is so angry she shoots at him, he spanks her, and it ends with her throwing the ring at him and telling him she never wants to see him again. Both of them young, stubborn, with harsh words, and he leaves the country, so why is he back? The reading of the will leave her so shook up, shocked beyond words, how could her father do that to her? What will the cowboys that work the ranch think?
“I do believe things about to get real interesting. You know I’ve got your back.”
Sierra has worked the Flying M ranch alongside her father since she was a young girl, doing anything the other cowhands do. For the past half year, she has been doing it while her father was ill. Now the will states that Ryder Malone will oversee what she has been doing all this time and she must answer to him.
“Part of what I’ve always loved was her independent spirit. It never surprised me that she identified so strongly with the Mustangs. She’s just like one of them. She wants to run free. I’ve just got to find a way to convince her that yielding to a guiding rein will give her all the freedom she needs within a structure of loving boundaries.”
“I’m the man who’s going to give you the structure and discipline you’ve been needing for a long, long time. You’re going to learn to mind me, Sierra, and that includes not cussing at me or trying to inflict bodily harm to me. And when you don’t, I’m going to put you over my knee and spank your bare bottom until you apologize and promise to try to behave better in the future.”
The story includes reconciliation, with a second chance love story between two people who are perfect for each other. It will have both of them older, more mature, and much more responsible. Ryder understands that he must be dominant and Sierra will learn to submit to his authority and control. It will be a learning curve for both of them, but he is determined to make it work and for them to finally be together. It will not be an easy journey; Sierra is a stubborn girl who must be taken in hand repeatedly for her attitude, sneaking off, and throwing caution to the wind, especially when it comes to the wild Mustangs.
“Sierra had never felt so dominated, possessed, and loved.”
“I gave you the benefit of my loving discipline, I introduced you to a new form of pleasure, and I allowed you to show much how much you desire me.”
The story includes domestic discipline within a loving relationship, even if it takes some time for Sierra to accept it. The sex scenes are explicit with power exchange.

Taming His Cowgirl By: Delta James Narrated by: Jack Calihan
This is a great second chance romance, it is my first Delta James book and it will not be my last. I enjoyed her writing style, she created interesting storylines that were captivated me from start to end. Her characters are likable and nicely developed. Sierra loved Ryder most of her life, they were engaged to be married but when she sees him with his ex she jumps to conclusions and breaks up with him, not letting him explain things. Five years pass, she is busy running the ranch with her Dad when he falls ill and then passes away. Her father knew she shared the same love for the ranch as he had yet he wrote a stipulation in his will, leaving her the farm if she agrees to allow Ryder to be the executor. Ryder spent the last five years abroad working with horses in Europe, Sierra’s Dad paid him a visit found out what really happened and had a plan to help him win Sierra’s heart back. Sierra is a strong, independent woman, she does not want to have to answer to anyone, especially not Ryder. But she goes with the plan in hopes she will rid of him by the years end. Ryder has his own plan to get her back, he plans to be firm with her, dominate and spank into submission so she could see how much she still loves him. These two had great chemistry together, you could see when he started to break down her barriers and she started to submit. All this was nicely done, in the privacy of their home and for their eyes only. I liked how it all played out, there is never a dull moment in this book, lots of drama, angst, some twists and hot romance. Secondary characters are great, loved the storylines about saving those horses too. Kink is on the mild side, some punishment and spanking and D/s scenes, nothing hardcore. Delta James, thank you for this great story.
I listened to the Audible edition, Jack Calihan is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. He brings these characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality. He does a great job projecting the emotions of the characters as well as the drama of the story into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen🎧
I listened to the Audiobook version of This book. I thought the narrator did a great job, especially when Ryder would use his scolding tone of voice. It was easy for me to forget that the voices of Rose and Sierra were being spoken by a man. I didn't realize I had previously read This book a while ago until I got much further into it. I think the narration brought that something extra to the story.
This book was not bad, but I have a couple of issues with it. Sierra started out being irritating and bitchy, bratty (whatever you want to call it), but I got that she was strong and independent; had a mine of her own. The fact that she was completely unwilling to listen to Ryder, and carried a grudge for FIVE years, was a bit much.
I can understand that Ryder wanted to assert his dominance and have a Dd relationship, but I would have expected them to have more of a discussion, and more of a deliberate consent from Sierra. She consented kinda sorta. I guess that fact that she went along with the program down to yes sir/no sir, etc. was consent enough for them.
As it was, it just seemed to me that Sierra became more child like, and less of an independent woman until the scene where she was one on one with Ryder's father. Then, the bold, self confident Sierra reared her head. I would have liked to see more of her after she and Ryder made amends.
If you are offended by the idea of domestic discipline, spankings, figging, etc. take a pass on reading or listening to this book. There are some sad moments, sweet, moments, sexy moments, and intense moments before you reach Ryder and Sierra's HEA.
I voluntarily listened and reviewed this audio book.
Really well written and very steamy, with scenes of domestic discipline. This would be a 4 on Amazon and if you like cowboys and 'spanking'/DD books then this is well worth reading. I'm not sure why people read spanking/discipline books and then write reviews about them being abusive. People in a domestic discipline or BDSM relationship will often incorporate spankings, some of which are fun and some are punishment. These may leave welts and bruises, but as long as the actions are SSC - safe, sane and consensual - then there should be no judgement of that.
I liked the characters and totally bought into their connection. They had amazing chemistry and this led to some very hot sexy times.
A couple of the discipline scenes were quite strong and the lack of discussion of whether Sierra wanted a domestic discipline lifestyle did irk me a little. She was totally free to walk away from Ryder, or to voice her objections, so overall the scenes were consensual IMO.
However I felt the book lacked a little in that there was NEVER a discussion about the structure of their relationship. It was all totally Ryder's choice and he didn't seem to seek Sierra's opinion on it. He did however acknowledge her experience, ideas and knowledge around the ranch etc, which meant he didn't seem too controlling or overbearing.
Both the plot and pace of the story are good. I found it easy to read and follow, pretty much reading it in one sitting.
This story is of a dominant alpha male and a wild young love. Due to a misunderstanding, Sierra broke off their engagement. . 6 years later Ryder is encouraged to return when Sierra's father visited him while he was working in Europe. he let him know he was real sick and wanted him to come back to take care of his wild child, Sierra. Fireworks, explosive, sparks fly between them. Ryder is trying to train and claim this young filly. Whenever she didn't mind, listen or breaks one of his rules, she gets spanked, hit with a belt, made to stand in the corner nude, or punished by hard sex. Ryder expects to be the dominant in this relationship with no exceptions. Sierra is headstrong , hard to train, she gets her fair share of Ryders discipline in more ways than one. When she knows that she screwed up, she is prepared for what punishment he has in store for her.He says he does it out of love. Delta James story is of a dominant man who believes hes the one person to make ALL the decisions in any relationship. And a woman who tries to defy him. get punished.I like reading BDSM . but most of this was spankings, harsh punishments!.Ryder thinking about what the next punishment would be. Jack Calihan narration is excellent in this story. Giving each character their own voice and personality. I was given a free audiobook and offered my honest review.
Give me a good western romance and I am hooked. This is my first book by Delta James, and I loved it. Not only does it have a good story, but the passion meter is high and the choice of narrator spot on! We meet Sierra, who's father has recently passed away. Figuring she would inherit the ranch after working it for several years, she is surprised to find control given to her ex-fiance Ryder. And their story continues. We get a great second chance romance, full of feistiness, spankings and chemistry. James has woven this story to be not only hot, but had some real life issues, like saving of wild horses. I love when an author includes something like this, it gives the story a realistic base as the couples search for their happiness. While at times I was frustrated with the amount of control Ryder wanted, I loved that Sierra gave up her spunky ways. It's a fun listen and I am looking forward to book 2.
Now, with a book like this, narration is key, and the choice of Jack Calihan is perfect. He brings this story to life with his voice, full of alpha male in one breath and spunky female in the other. I enjoyed his pacing and he had me sucked into the story line.
Sierra had loved Ryder almost all of her life, until he betrayed her and then left her. He was back after being gone five years and determined to straighten out the misunderstanding of his alleged betrayal. But at the reading of her father's will upon his death, the betrayals just keep coming and now, her own father has betrayed her as well. Sierra has grown to be a strong, independent, hot tempered and stubborn young woman who often flies off the handle before thinking or collecting all of the facts. Old Habits die hard, painfully hard sometimes as Sierra quickly learns across the firm knees of Ryder, who is determined to make her stop and listen if for no other reason than to keep her safe. But he is determined to win her love again and make her his, as it should always have been. A great read.
There is history between Ryder and Sierra. n fact, the last time that she saw him she to shoot him so he'd better beware! So when she discovers that her father has left the ranch to him and not her she is furious and bewildered. Ryder is now back in her life and the sparks are sizzling even more between them. This is such a well written book by Delta James who is a new author top me. This book has certainly proved to me that I must read more of her stories as I love her writing style and the way shew creates her characters who are both believable and ones that I'd like to meet if they were real. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. |Most definitely recommended
I initially really like the storyline and Sierra and her spirit but Ryder not so much. He came off like an egomaniacal, misogynistic ass. He repeatedly talked down to Sierra calling her little girl, brat, naughty and wild child. He treated and talked to her more like a child that he wanted to have sex with than a partner and that is just gross!! While it started out well by the end I even started disliking Sierra because she loved how he treated no matter how degrading, humiliating or cruel. For once can an author write a DD storyline that doesn't involve belittling or misogyny?
I really enjoyed us book. Sierra loses her father and finds out he put her ex-fiance as the executor of the family ranch. Ryder knows he made mistakes in the past but has never stopped loving Sierra and takes the opportunity given to him by her father to bring Sierra to heel and get their relationship back on track. She is fiesty, headstrong, stubborn and quick tempered. He is stubborn, arrogant, dominant and determined. The sparks fly and she learns just who is in charge of the ranch and their relationship.
If you are a fan of this genre then you will love this story. If that isn't your thing then please scroll along. It's a fast-paced, steamy read that has great characters who share combustible chemistry. It was easy for me to become invested in Sierra, but it took me a little while to warm up to Ryder. The romance was a blend of sweet and sassy, with moments of humor thrown in, and the passion was scorching. Everything about it pulls you in and makes you wish the end would never arrive. It's another beautiful read by Delta James and I can't wait to dive in to the next one.
Enjoyed reading Sierra and Ryder's story. I was glad they could settle their differences. Love the way Ryder got Sierra to listen to him . She was very angry at hom .She thought he cheated. Instead of listening to him .she shot his hat off stomped off. He figure he let her cool off. Took 5 yrs and.her daddy passing . So happy that she finally realized that she loves him . They get their second Chances. Also listened as Audio If ya new to.audio version, ya try it . Amazing. Jack Calihan does amazing job . Delta James one amazing author .
I guess because I am a princess, I say to my husband jump and he would say how high love, so it was nice to see a man with enough confidence to put a woman in her place , my husband never would, and as for his lovemaking ( husband ) we won’t go into that , wam bam thank you man ,if you know what I mean, so it was nice to read a bit of fantasy, especially in these COVID times, so thank you I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading another one like it , it actually had a storyline,, that I could follow, so thank you again . Rita
While I truly loved this story, I will admit that it may not be for everyone. Some may find the discipline angle hard to handle. Anyone who has read(and enjoyed) Ms. James before, this is the expected behavior of the Alpha hero. For those readers I recommend this book and hope they enjoy Ryder and Sierra as much as I did.

Sierra is pissed that her father left the family ranch to Ryder. The man that spanked her bottom and left her frustrated because she wants more. The chemistry between these two was off the charts hot. Well written, great characters and interesting push and pull between Sierra and Ryder, making the pages practically turn themselves. I was hooked from the beginning and thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

Definitely a good story, loved how committed the Ryder was to getting her back despite her short tantrums. The rest was funny to read however it seems so cliche for a girl’s passion to blind her from her safety. The guys always being right is also a little annoying, or maybe even a lot, it just sounds like guys are perfect whereas the girls are blinded by their emotions all the time.
The book was OK. Sierra was suppose to be an "Adult" a strong independent woman, but really all she was is a spoiled little rich girl who had temper tantrums when she didn't get her way and unwilling to listen to anyone else. I liked Ryder, to me he should have just said good riddance, I think he deserved a better woman. Jack Calihan is what made this book, he does a great job with the narration and brings the characters to life.
Absolutely loved this and so enjoyed reading it. He is an alpha male and she is a feisty and strong female. He is left in charge of her ranch when her father dies. But he is her old boyfriend and things get really interesting from there. I higly recommend this. I was given a review copy by booksprout and voluntarily review it.
I like a little spanking as a lead up to some hot sex some of the time but not all of the time but as it may seem Sierra needed to be tamed a little so Ryder had to spank her a hell of a lot most of the time. But damn Sierra can be so wild and such a canny wild cat. Yeah good read but just a little too much spanking as such by Ryder me thinks ;)
Sierra will inherit her father's ranch if she works with Ryder and proves to him that she can. The only problem is he broke her heart and she decides to do anything that she can to irritate him. This is a steamy, hot read and I would recommend it.
Ryder and Sierra's story has spankings, a strong alpha male and a submissive woman who needs to be disciplined as she has one volatile temper. I enjoyed reading this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
WOW!!!! What else is there to say. This was a really HOT story, and you will be missing out if you don't read it. I couldn't put it down it was that good!

As I enjoyed the storyline, there was too much spanking. Sierra was determined not to hear anything Ryder had to say but in the end she got to listen, feel and see!
These alpha men and their spanking have me in stitches. This was one time that I thought someone deserved a spanking. When I saw how mad Sierra was and how she disrespected Ruth and their long time foreman I was hoping Malone would hurry and spank her😃😃😃.
