This is the first book of Golden Dawn magic that I have actually read and I really got a lot out of it. It is nicely laid out, gives clear instructions and the Cicero's are pretty clear when they are stating an opinion. I would recommend this to anybody starting out on the Golden Dawn or ceremonial magic path.
As the title suggests, this book delves into the magic of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, an English cabalistic and occult order. I find that they neatly laid out the concepts surrounding the hierarchy of the order and the magical language, so the use of Hebrew in magic. At times it even sounded more advanced than I had anticipated before reading the book. Nevertheless, it rounded all the discussed subjects up in beginner fashion - some subjects in such a beginner fashion, it was too beginner. Some subjects, e.g astrology or tarot, to name two, could have had a more extensive analysis and overview. I found the information regarding some subjects to be very surface-level. Individuals getting into the Golden Dawn will surely be familiar with basic astrology and tarot. Still, there were many subjects that deserved a more in-depth look. Some subjects were more complicated and didn't receive enough context in my opinion. Therefore, it is good for people getting into the Golden Dawn, but only if they are ready to revisit some things they learned long ago.
This is the best tarot book I've read. Although, it is not specifically a tarot book, it explained the Hermetic Qabalistic system of the Rider-Waite more than any other tarot book I've read. This book helped me out so much during my research. The creators of the Rider-Waite were members of the Golden Dawn society. Therefore, if you wish to learn about the tarot deck and its symbols then I highly suggest this book.
I came to realize that Golden Dawn is not my spiritual path for different reasons. It is a good system of magic for those who are drawn to it. If you're looking to learn about Golden Dawn's structure and how it works, this is probably the best and most simplified version that you're going to find.
