There's a new criminal element in town and they state their arrival by knocking off a few of Vincent's men. Recker and the team get drawn into the middle of it and start investigating to learn the identity of the mystery player. Recker and Haley get a tip about a high-level meeting of the new crew in an abandoned building, but all is not what it seems. Instead of a meeting, they run into Malloy, who's also there to investigate, and an otherwise empty building. It turns out to be an ambush, and only two of the three will escape uninjured.
Will they find out who's responsible for the attack and bring them to their brand of justice? Or will the perpetrators slip out from under their fingers to cause more chaos and destruction?

I am really enjoying the audo version of this series. Though you'd think that things are predictable...there are items that come out of left field (I wonder where that term came from) that keep making this series interesting. Now to start #9.
Note: The silencer series has been combined into box sets (ebook & audio). At the time of this review the series is in KoboPlus
This is book 8 of Mike Ryan's The Silencer Series (Mike Recker thrillers). Embrace this like an episodic TV show where some things are solved but there are also numerous storylines carried throughout several books. As such there may be spoilers to previous books in my review.
Hunting down who is taking out Vincent’s men turns out more complicated than Recker, Haley, & Jones thought. It also results in serious injuries and a few losses between all three groups.
I like the twists and turns in this one as well as the introduction of a new nemesis. Good pacing and balance of personal, mystery, & action. Not exactly a cliffhanger, but definitely a “more will be revealed” kind of ending.
Narration: Brian Hutchison continues to be a great fit for Ryan’s writing. I enjoy his voices, emotions, and character personalities. This series is definitely binge worthy.
Every 4 episodes this ‘season’ gets interesting! This is the best thus far, but reinforces the fact that this is not a novel, but a TV episode. It ends, not on a cliffhanger, but more on a ‘To be continued...’ fade to outro and end credits.
I have a couple of continuity gripes (which I can’t mention without giving away plot spoilers), they’re not major but may be relevant!! Perhaps one will be picked up in episode 9.
This is the only title that has me interested to read the next episode. You know, to be continued...
Whittle Down The List of Players and It Sprouts New Ones
Mia and Mike are settling in quite well and Haley the new guy is up to speed. When things are going good there's always to something gum up the works. It comes in the form of competition to Vincent. An out-of-towner wants a piece of Vincent's business but doesn't to play by anyone else's rules but hers.
And she's so foolish to believe that she can entice Recker to join her side. Foolish woman, that one. So what's Recker to do? Vacation time!
There's a new threat in town and is threatening to get into the crosshairs of both the Silencer team and mob boss Vincent's crime syndicate. That is an ugly mix that rarely ends well. This new story has the right twists and turns involving this new character. Great read.
★★★½: base rating - A solid book, with another interesting plot. I liked the introduction of the new wannabe crime boss. That bumped my rating up a 1/4 star.
