Tanya had always loved Kade Player
Tanya Hume had idolized her father's business manager, Kade Player. As a child she'd been rebuffed by his obvious disinterest. Now, on her return to the farm after her father's death, she hoped things would be different.

But Kade could be kind and sympathetic to others -- toward her he was unfailingly cold and businesslike.

What had she done to earn his displeasure? Why was he determined to make her life a misery?

The hero:

The heroine:

Great world building in this one. Enjoyed the unique setting of a farm on the island of Tasmania. I can think of only one other HPlandia foray into Tasmania.

It was highly satisfying to see the snorkel-nosed viper OW being shown the door by the hero at her first offense, especially in a genre where OWs, especially the "speshul secretary" kind, have total impunity.

Nevertheless, the hero remained a donkey's butt for the majority of the story, with nary a grovel, including the last scene where he commands the heroine to marry him instead of begging her on bent knees.

Given the sad history of her own mother, who was so unhappy because she was dominated by her well-meaning but totally oblivious, older husband, and eventually ran away from him, this did not really bode well :~{

I will remember this one for the Big Seekret Shame of the heroine finding out from the merciless OW that ten years before, when the heroine was still a child, her mother went gaga over the young hero when he started working at their farm as an apprentice to heroine's father. The hero was NOT interested in becoming a big, fat, adultering cheater, especially not with the wife of his employer.
The heroine's mother stalked him obsessively until he finally threatened to take a horsewhip to her to get the message to leave him alone. This is what precipitated the heroine's mother leaving her husband and taking herself and her daughter back to England. Now the heroine will marry the guy who was the object of her mother's lust and the instrument of her total and very public humiliation: Yuck!!! Poor, poor heroine.

Our heroine is a young, recently orphaned 20 year-old woman who looks like her mother. Her mother made an inappropriate pass at the hero ten years before and left the fruit plantation, taking the ten year-old heroine with her. Now, the heroine is back to find the hero as hostile as ever and part owner of her inheritance. Hero tells her she has to stay for six months to learn the fruit business and then he'll let her go. Heroine agrees because she's always been in love with hero.

And then not a lot happens.

On the plus side, the heroine stood up for herself and the hero wasn't too mean spirited after she called him out on his behavior. On the minus side, there just wasn't a lot of drama. Just a lot of internal musings. Not a bad story, but not too memorable. (Except for the title)

the reason why im givingvthis a 5 star is because the story line is my kind of thing. i think when she decided that shes no longer interested in him she was dead set on showing it and when he excersise his alpha ways, thats when you can see his power without focusing too much on sex. this is one of those books that has very few kisses but i found really really romantic.

This one was more dull than anything else. The H is actually a pretty decent guy when compared to the average Jane Corrie hero, but really, the story was resolved once the h found out the big secret about her mother that the H was hiding, which happened about a third of the way in.

"I'm not ready to leave," Kade said
Tanya stared back at him defiantly. "If I say so, you'll have to go! she declared longing to take the superior look off his face.
"Are your firing me, Miss Hume?" he asked in a silky voice that someone held a hint of warning. "Because then there wouldn't be much left of the business, I assure you."
Tanya's eyes spared as she returned his fire. "You mean you'd take our business with you? Well, of all the low tricks!"
"Who said it was your business? "Kade asked acidly. "I take only what is mine. And three-quarters of this business is mine."
Tanya sat stunned as she digested the shock. "I don't believe you, " she said in a low voice, full of uncertainty. "You told me I'd inherited the business. You said nothing about joint ownership."

Well, this certainly isn’t a favourite. No two people could be less suited together then the two main characters. The female main character had been sheltered and spoiled all her life and was so immature she acted way younger than her age. The male main character was purportedly a nice guy but we only got to see his vapid tongue and hear his harsh words to the main female character. For 98% of the book he acted like he had a stick up his ***!

One of the most drippy, annoying heroines I have ever come across. She's in love with him (since she was 10, it seems) and now at 20, he treats her badly and that's ok, because she will love him anyway... (yawn). Then he decides to try to like her and she is to learn the ropes of the fruit business, but she's so dumb/lazy/in a daydream because she LOVES him so much and so doesn't really try. There's no OM, there's a want to be OW, plus a smothering housekeeper, her dead mother's man, and not many other people. It's really a very poorly thought out story and the hero is not likeable, but the heroine is so incapable of doing anything that at 20, she has to have someone to look after her. Thinking about it, I'd probably give it less than 2 stars as she was TSTL.

God! this was bad.
I have no inkling when did the H and h fell in love , the most time they spent was inspecting business and never at conversations.
Initially atleast the h loved the H and worked hard in order to impress him but later on i don't know what happened for her to see saw her feelings for H, i mean i got confused as to what did she want from life and H, she seems frivolous at best.
H, now if he hadn't confess to the h that he loved her it was difficult to make out, as most of time he was either angry with h or scolding her or trying to make her learn about the business.

I am sorry but i didn't get anything from this story, no love, no romance not even an angst.

Actually, a very nice book.

The heroine is in love with her late father's estate manager when her dreams and hopes are shattered by the rumours of her late mother's involvement with him and the news that he's actually an estate's owner.

The hero asks her to stay for 6 months to learn the basics of family business before she sells out.
