Dive into the events surrounding the Orion War and the years leading up to it in Repercussions.
Featuring short stories by Aeon 14 fans (some of whom are also sci-fi authors in their own right) and a new story by M. D. Cooper, this volume promises to give a deeper insight, and enthrall you with some great new stories.
Malorie Cooper likes to think of herself as a dreamer and a wanderer, yet her feet are firmly grounded in reality.
A ‘maker’ from an early age, Malorie loves to craft things, from furniture, to cosplay costumes, to a well-spun tale, she can’t help but to create new things every day.
A rare extrovert writer, she loves to hang out with readers and people in general. If you meet her at a convention, she just might be rocking a catsuit, cosplaying one of her own characters, or maybe her latest favorite from Overwatch!
She shares her home with a brilliant young girl, her wonderful wife (who also writes), a cat that chirps at birds, a never-ending list of things she would like to build, and ideas…
I was extremely impressed with the level of writing in these stories and actually found almost all 5 star all the way through so i have decided to give credit where credit is due and write a bit of my thoughts for each story.
Penny Brown - Katrina vis-à-vis Katrina A great choice i was drawn to this characters story and this highlights a little of what she did for 500 years whilst waiting on the Tanis and the Intrepid. This was a tug at the heart as we see the struggles she faces externally and Internally in her battle to become a better Katrina. A good 4.5 stars
Aaron J. Davis - Know Thy Enemy What is it like for the other side to face the Transcend. Extremely well thought out piece and something giving a pause of not everyone is bloodthirsty or out for power. Ties in well as a beginner book as well right alongside Destiny Rising. Well deserved 5 stars
Joe Kocsis - Damage Control This is a nice piece of work showing just what it's like to clean up the mess from battles and what dangers a solo human and AI share and gives a good minor character viewpoint of the larger picture. 4.5 stars
Richard Parry - The Promise A great author of his own this gives an amusing view from the pirates who have to survive in the deep black and just screams we are not all bad in Orion space. Well written and character intensive easy 4.5 stars
James R. Haubenreich - Adira's Demons A great side project as it's not just Rika who has being fighting the fight and this is a great story just before they join up to Rika. Channels some great Mech grit. 5 out of 5 stars
John Stripe - I Have no Master Almost a homage to short circuit here i think as we find out how does a NSAI become something more and what does he think of it all. This is a well thought out heart story and gets 5 stars from me.
Henry Orion - Black Ice In the black how does those struggling to mine the system resources survive and how are the people who just want to work and have a quiet life affected by the Solar battles. Nice moments for a lot of these so 4.5 star
James S. Aaron - Crash in Love My favourite non AI/Human character, how will crash find love, can he find a way forward for his uplifted race. A bit of a puzzle and something Crash loves but when a new puzzle causes issues for his group what can he do. A 6 out of 5 stars here as this is just straight to the heart.
M. D. Cooper - The Southern Crown A great adventure from 3 of our fav human females as a night out can only mean save a planet and change the course of a system. Full of Cooper side notes and tongue in cheek easily a solid 5 stars
CRASH IN LOVE by James Aaron 5 Stars LOVED it! Awesome plot with cool twists, super dialogue, and wonderful characters. Aaron has an incredibly vivid imagination and some stupendous writing skills. Go Crash!
EASY PREY by James R Haubenreich 5 Stars Great war story. Thrilling action, good plot, excellent dialogue.
Thank you, Mr. Haubenreich (a REAL Marine), for showing that Marines are not just Neanderthal grunts who can’t speak without using f--k in every sentence!
BLACK ICE by Henry Orion 4 Stars An exciting space adventure with heart!
KNOW THY ENEMY by Aaron J Davis 4 Stars There were a few areas that were a bit hard to follow. Otherwise ... Wow! Just wow!
I HAVE NO MASTER by John Stripe 4 Stars Fun and fascinating examination of what might happen to a non-sentient artificial intelligence (NSAI) robot who is just on the cusp of sentience.
THE SOUTHERN CROWN by M D Cooper 3 Stars Superwomen save the day—again. Another battle on another world with Tangel, Sera, and Jessica’s extreme tech allowing them to win over puny humans. I enjoyed the humor.
A great collection of stories here. I think it is a testament to the depth of the universe M D Cooper has created that you can have a number of fan authors come in and write strong stories that fit well within it. The stories are varied but all capture the feel of the Aeon 14 universe, and range from somewhat comedic to quite emotional in tone. All in all a great collection, and I think all the contributing authors have done a fantastic job!
Great short stories, DREGS rocks, and Crash is so cool.
Wow some fantastic tales and better than I expected from the fans vs the professional writers not at all saying they we not top notch. The DREGS story was hands down my favorite and I would love to see a continuation of his story. A Crash story by James S Aaron was a real treat. Michael Cooper treats us with a short adventure with Tangel, Sera and Jessica.... A Fun series.
The stories in this Official Fanfic meld quite well with the others. There are even some like the Mech one I would like to see fleshed out into a full story or even series. It all fit together very well and was more enjoyable than I had initially thought.
I was not sure about reading this collection with description of fan fiction. After reading the book I would never have known the writers were not all professionals were it not for the description on the cover. The collection is all well written and adds to the fictional universe it is written in and for.recommended.
There must have been a lot of research into Aeon 14 from these authors to get these stories to fit so seamlessly into the main stories. They're all great but my favourite was I Have No Master by John Stripe. The story of the NSAI was so endearing it warmed my heart.
This has been a interesting read, and I am hoping that there will be more to come from others. Loved the story with colonel Adira and her dragon's. Hope to read more.
Just finished reading Repercussions. To call this Fan Fiction does not do the stories contained within justice. It is a fantastic (sic) collection of lovely stories some revisiting familiar characters and some introducing new. Those who have met Crash will welcome his reappearance in Crash in Love but for me the highlight was I Have No Master.
