Sam lost her parents when she was young and ended up in the foster care system. Things happened to her that makes it hard for her to trust people. It's hard for her to open up and let people in. But for some reason, when it comes to Joe, those feelings of distrust and unease are nowhere to be found. She hasn't felt this comfortable around another person in a long time. He makes her feel grounded and safe. Her feelings for him only get stronger over time. She has tried to get the operative to take a chance on them but, even though his feelings are just as strong, he always pushes her away.
But everything changed when Sam was shot and almost lost her life during a mission the Shadow team was on protecting their team leaders now wife.
Joe would never have forgiven himself if something happened to Sam and he missed his chance to show her how much she means to him. He's determined to not let another minute go by without telling her the truth. He can't imagine his life without her in it. He knows there's things in her past that she struggles with and he only hopes that she'll trust him enough to open up to him. He wants to protect her in every way that he can.
While the Shadow team is on an undercover mission in paradise, Sam and Joe grow even closer. They decide that it's finally time to give their relationship a chance to see where it can lead. But while on the hunt for a murderer, Sam's past comes back to haunt her. Now she must face her ultimate fear in order to protect the man she loves.
But Joe refuses to fail the woman he loves. He wasn't there to save her when she was younger but he'll do whatever it takes to save her now. He will risk everything to get her out of the enemies clutches and back into his arms where she belongs. Nothing will stop him from protecting what is his.

I loved this book! I have been curious about Sam and Joe's story since their appearance in Shadow Guardian. It did not disappoint! I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. Joe was so good for Sam! He was her protector but knew when she needed to do things on her own. He was there to have her back no matter what but didn't hinder the things she needed to face. They balanced and grounded each other, both knowing just what the other needed. They were perfect for each other.
I am seriously loving both the Fortress Security and the Otter Creek series! I'm not going to lie... I am constantly checking Amazon looking to see if the next book has been released yet. I have to constantly remind myself that writing takes time and I need to be patient.... but that still doesn't stop me from looking! Haha.
I am so glad that I discovered Ms. Deel! She quickly became an autobuy author for me. I don't even read the synopsis first... I just one-click these babies! I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!
As for my casting... I think they're kinda perfect. What do you think?!

Fast Pace, Exciting
I was in the mood for this kind of book and I knew just where to go for a quick fix. This story has an exciting, fast pace with lots of action and build up. I was invested. I'm really rethinking my desire to go on another cruise though. Yikes!

Super!
I love this series. The great thing is you can start the series anywhere and if you love it go back and read the others. I find I treasure the books like candy and save them for when I need a good mission or mystery with a very happy ending. Love Fortress ! Also love Otter Creek and PSI part of the same family of books different towns and teams all fantastic!

Wonderful as always. I read it without a break. I couldn't put it down. I've read all of Rebbeca Deel's books I can tell you that you will never be disappointed in any of the series.great storylines and characters. Every time I read a new one I want to go back and read them all again.

Finally Sam and Joe! I remember them from previous stories, but now I want to go back and re-read for every glimpse of them. I love a good friends to love story, and I adored their romance. The mystery was interesting and I liked the suspense angle. There is lots of action here, and I really thought the cruise ship setting took it to a fun new level. My only complaint is that the nickname started to annoy me -- Sparky felt like an odd endearment to me -- but oh well. Can't wait for the next book!

I’ve been waiting for this story and it did not disappoint. I love Joe and Sam together. It was 5 years in the making. You won’t regret the wait. I only felt that there was one question remaining. Ms. Feel indicated in a couple of books the Joe was hiding a secret but there was a cursory mention at the beginning of the book, then nothing. It didn’t take away from the story. I just wanted to know what it was.

AN INTENSE THRILLER
Another protection and rescue mission for the Fortress group. Their next phase of their mission is to go undercover on a cruise ship to identify the person or persons who are threatening the owner but also his family. I always enjoy these books and love how the characters are intermixed between both series. I think I have liked this one the best. I really love how protective but yet patient Joe is with Sam and how they started off as friends first and had each others back before they became more. I always love the mystery and there's always a plot twist with these stories.

Missing something
I was excited to read this book but it wasn't as good as I'd thought it would be. It follows the format of the other books in the series. Joe and Sam worked together for years, both have feelings for the other but didn't act on them. Honestly I'm not sure why I was disappointed in this book. I'm still going to read the next one as well as the PSI series.

This was my first book in this series and I really enjoyed it! I love a romance that starts as coworkers and ends in love. However, I love my romantic suspense to have equal parts suspense and romance (which this did) and steamy sex scenes. This had zero. I think if I knew that it may have dissuaded me from even reading it. Still very good but without that piece it feels lacking somehow.

a little disappointing
I was looking forward to Joe and Sam’s book. I expected more angst since they had worked together for 5 years and neither has made a move. But once again, instant love story with little to no feeling involved. Hard to see how after 5 years of denying each other it happened so quickly. Fast paced story, decent plot.

Loved it!
Another great book in a fantastic series!! Sam finally has her man, but has to confront her childhood monster. Joe finally admits his feelings, only to find he might lose her. Cant wait for next book!

Another Fortress to the rescue
So glad Joe and Sam finally got together. Love that these stories bring in the other teams when needed. Hope there are books with the Texas team. I'm not ready for these series to stop.

Not a good read
Not go to the standards set by the other Fortress Security books. The book dealt too much on the hero and heroine and not enough on the plot.

Wonderful ending for 2 great characters
Joe and Sam are two hero's that have underwent life changing events. Instead of falling apart they fell in love.
