It's the past and the future. They haven't met. They've collided. And I'm in the middle, expected to make a decision.
*
The perfect life isn't really all that perfect. The handsome man holding my hand finally allows us to open our pasts to one other. His secrets hurt. My love for someone else hurts even more.
*
Brice waits for me, just the way he's always done. He's kept all our memories to remind me of what we once had - and lost. I cannot wait any longer... As I walk into my forever, I realize there can be nobody else.
I am so happy that Ben did get his HEA. Kinsley giving him up at last was the best thing she did for him. As well, it was awesome that Brice and Kinsley could finally move on to a future together. This whole book was filled with struggles. April and June with Milo particularly hurt my heart.
I hated the biggest struggle of all was Kinsley’s as she bounced between the two men she loved. The struggle was so real and the writing made you feel it too. Mind you, I found her struggle extremely annoying at times and I struggled to not throw my kindle at the wall.
Anyway, all in all, the two book love story works.
Wow, this was a roller-coaster conclusion. Continuation from Somebody Else. If you haven't read it, Stop, go back and read it first otherwise you won't get the whole story. Each character in the story begins to heal, but healing isn't always closure.
Decisions, decisions! Poor little Kinsley. She has a choice Ben or Brice? I enjoyed the banter between these characters. While she is trying to make a decision who her real true love is. Her heart knows what or who it wants. The ending is so perfect. A very good well written love story.
Jaxson Kidman is a fine writer. I just don't love THIS book. At. All.
Faced with the fact that I have to defend what might appear to be a crazy and unfortunate lapse in judgment, all I've got is this: I simply don't buy the off-the-chart behaviors, especially when they're used as excuses to control each other, of our protagonists. While my miscarriage was nothing but a near-insignificant mishap compared to Kinsley's loss of Lindsay at full-term, her loss in no way reduces mine to anything less than heartbreaking or devastating, as human emotions and motherhood solidarity go. No matter how young the fetus at the time of its loss, when hearts, minds, and lives have already accepted "baby" inside, within, and into, the loss is excruciating. Nothing really eased the gaping emptiness left behind in me after I lost my baby after eleven weeks; I cannot begin - no, I CRINGE at trying to imagine Kinsley's state of mind, feelings, and motivations as she navigated her relationship with Ben and dealt with Brice, who had lived her painfully tragic past. That said, I do not, for one minute, believe any of the characters could say, think, or do the things Ben, Kinsley, Brice and even April and June, actually did in the book. All without benefit of professional counseling, though June did have a rehab program, a sponsor, and a new boyfriend to help her deal. I don't think men behave like Brice - my husband loved me then, still lives me today, but NEVER kept taking things, giving me space. Men do not do things that way, at least, not without serious intervention or counseling that was ongoing.
And Ben? OMG! He put himself all the way out there for his first serious relationship - a mother to a son who WAS NOT HIS. He mourned her, yet involved himself with Kinsley, who obviously had had tragedy in her past, almost as if he DESERVED only women who could never give themselves completely to him. WTH?
So, yeah. I didn't even buy the plot or angst theme. Way too flower child, sixties in vibe for me, which wouldn't be so bad had I not lived through that era, and experienced firsthand how superficial all of that was just a hype, with all those "grooving" hipsters overpowered or overcome by too many drugs. Ick. Anyway, perhaps it was the source of their problems that didn't do it for me. Whatever. The storyline did not ring true for me. Kinsley needed a couple of slaps to wake her up and.stop capitalizing on her pretty face. The only one worth anyone's time was Brice. Ben was a.jerk pretending to be nice, understanding. In someone else's book he would be the sociopathic murderer. Kinsley would have been either a psychotic or murdered early in another book, along with June.
This book made me anxious, crazy, angry and extremely frustrated. I did not like it. Those reviewers who gushed about how great this was were impressed by the very good editing job of the publication and decent sexual encounters Kinsley gives Brice. Maybe. I'm stopping now. I just know re book was a turn off, and I wish I hadn't wasted money on this duet. Double waste of time and $$$.
I could tell you what this story holds, I could give spoilers. I could tell you what reading this has meant to me, but maybe it won't mean the same to you. Maybe you'll see this differently. Maybe you won't. Time will tell. What I can say is this, this story, this duet, to date, is the best Jaxson has ever written.
All I can say about this story is if this was one man in love with two women all hell would have broken loose. Kinsley was selfish, hypocritical and manipulative. I wished for Brice to end up with April and show the bed hopping Kinsley to the door once and for all. Thank God Ben found someone but it didn't take long, the entire book was unrealistic.
This book held my attention from the very first page. This book will take you on a roller coaster of emotions but by the end of the book you will have an appreciate all the twists and turns because it just goes to show how real this book is to everyone in some way. Life is made to be made to be messy. I liked how we were giving the more in-depth look at what brought everyone together and why. Appreciated the talk that Brice and Kinsley dad has it was long over due but also very much needed. One of my favorite scenes was when Kinsley got to meet Milo very the very first time. I am so glad everyone is getting their happily ever after in their own way. I am glad Brice and Kinsley were able to find their way back to one another. I am also glad that Ben was able to move forward and find happiness as well. I also appreciate how June was able to finally come around and realize all that April and Brice did very Milo and that now she is healthy and happy.
Nobody Else is the second part of Brice and Kinsley‘s story, and you must read Somebody Else first.
I won’t give away any spoilers, but their story of the ghosts of their pasts haunting them, struggling to find their future, will take you as a reader on an emotional journey.
Parts of the story will leave you frustrated, and you’ll want to grab the characters and shake some sense into them. But at other times you’ll want to sit with them and offer them reassurance that everything will work itself out.
It’s all a part of Jaxson’s incredible story telling, that sucks you in, pulls you in every direction, and leaves you feeling as though you’ve lived it too.
Nobody Else is raw, real, and messy, and heartbreaking. I was so invested in this story that I had the ending that I wanted in my mind, and even though it didn't end that way, I was still blown away by the powerful emotions that it evoked. Mr. Kidman's ability to make you feel the emotion of each character and see things from each point of view is unique and what makes him one of my favorite authors.
Jaxson Kidman concludes his Somebody Else duet with crazy revelations that eventually lead to everyone facing their pasts and dealing with the tragic events that lead them to where they are now. Once the truth is revealed, everyone ends up where they all should’ve been a long time ago.
A book about redemption and passion with all of the raw emotion we have grown to expect from this author. It’s a realistic look at a love triangle, no sugarcoating the angst, hurt and guilt of all parties. Time for sharing their secrets and honesty has arrived.
I’m going to take a step back and give Kinsley the time she needs to sort through things. She has a decision to make the perfectly planned life with Ben or should she live the spontaneous life with Brice! I’d say by the size of the ring on her finger she has definitely made her choice. I can’t believe she’d choose him I’ll just have to get on with my life the best way I can.
Wow. What an amazing conclusion to this duet. This book like the first had me reading, and turning pages until the end. Just amazes me the raw emotion that comes off every page. If you want raw, real, messy romance with twists and turns you won’t see coming, this duet is for you. Solid 5+ stars. I definitely recommend this book and this author.
Talk about making my head spin! I finished 'Nobody Else' yesterday, but had to wade through my rambling thoughts on the conclusion of this messy mucked up emotional wreckage of a love story into some sense of words. After the first book in this duet 'Somebody Else' I ended it feeling " some kind of way. " I was a bit iffy on all three of the " main " characters; I knew who the reader was likely supposed to be rooting for, I was not all in one corner because I was not a fan, of the actions of any one them. Moving on to 'Somebody Else' whoa boy, my feelings did not change for the three main characters a lot, my frustrations where many and my feeling where all over the place. I did not know what I wanted out of these characters, which frustrated me, and intrigued me. Couple times I put the Kindle down, walked away, thinking nope can't do any more of the back and forth business, yet I still kept picking the dang kindle back up. I was hooked on the dramatics, and the glutton for blood pressure raising punishment of it all, I had to see this book through to the end. I wanted to know how three people who had clearly made a mess the size of Texas out of their lives with more issues than the Senate would come out of this with an HEA. It's a crazy whirlwind of a ride, that honestly I never would have guessed I would be five staring, but I read a crap ton of books and love lots of them! Do I remember all of them this intensely the next day? Unfortunately not. Does it really matter that I didn't care for the characters? I am still on the fence with that one, since it was all three of the mains, but Jaxson Kidman took a love story made it into something emotionally charged, unique, had me up and down literally and figuratively and still thinking about it 24 hours later as if I had just finished it! As far as I am concerned, that is a spectacular Duet that took me by surprise! I suggest checking out for yourself- see what you think!
The conclusion of Kinsley, Ben, and Brice's story. In order to fully appreciate this one, you MUST read 'Somebody Else'. Well edited.
At the conclusion of 'Somebody Else', Ben threw a 'Hail Mary' to try and save his relationship with Kinsley. Caught off guard, she agrees to wear his ring, although she is adamant that it is not an engagement ring. However, as we all know, when friends and strangers see a ring, they assume. The explanation is too much, so assumptions tend to stand.
As much as Brice wants to fight for Kinsley, he comes to a place where he just can't anymore. The pain, the conflict, the guilt, and continual roller coaster of emotion on everyone finally comes to a head. Brice realizes he must wait Kinlsey out and learn to live with whatever she decides.
Ben tries. He makes plans. He meets a bump, and makes more plans. He tries to be patient, but he just wants to move to the future. He shares the pain in his past, but continues to make the very mistakes that he made in the past. One more deal will make everything right. One. More. Deal.
The cracks continue to break the Perfect Life into pieces. What will be left? Where will Kinsley's heart lead?
I really appreciated how Jaxson gave us a resolution for all parties in the end. Acknowledging that everyone handles grief differently... I still want to hug Brice. I still want Kinsley to face her loss and stop breaking everyone's heart. And, I still want to tell Ben to stop focusing on the deal and pay attention to the people in his life. Enjoy!
I hate to say this but I have never read a book with so many pathetic main characters. Ben lost his future when she and her son were killed in an accident. So he doesn't care that his live in girl friend cheats on him so that she can get over her past. Kinsley can't decide if she wants to be with Brice or Ben. Brice and her had a great relationship until it was rocked by the unthinkable. Instead of dealing with it she ran away. She is drawn back to Brice but she still keeps running home to Ben. Brice admittedly hates that she is with Ben but has vowed no matter what to be there when ever she snaps her fingers. I just wanted someone to make a stand and give Kinsley and ultimatum so that she HAD to choose instead of stringing them both along. She was having her cake and eating it to. Then when you get to the epilogue and you see that Ben had found a HEA and was even expecting his first child, all I could do was wonder why not Brice and Kinsley. They were the ones who had lost a child so what did the future hold in that aspect. This series could have been so much more but the characters lacked any character and just didn't make me root for them to get any closure.
Jaxson kidman puts a little bit of himself into every one of his books. This duet will make you feel as though YOU are one of the people in the story. All the emotions they go through you will feel. You will hate them at one point. Then you will love them at another point. The love Kinsley has for both men is so strong. It will tear at your heartstring because of each of their past histories. It will make you cry several times throughout the book. This book hit home for me on several levels. This man knows how to write a book that resembles true life. It feels so real to me like I'm in that moment as it's happening. With every book he writes he just keeps getting better and better. This duet is the best book Jaxson has ever written. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself with us.
Absolutely an emotional rollercoaster...this second book was more than I'd bargained for.
What happens when a woman's heart loves two men but only truly belongs to one? Kinsley had a past and a present but they collided. She found herself loving two men and they were polar opposites.
Ben loved Kinsley. Wanted a future, one he had well planned out. But he couldn't ease up, live a little. He never allowed Kinsley completely in even though he gave her a perfect world.
Brice has so much more than just a past with Kinsley. He's never moved on, never stopped loving her.
The ultimate love triangle. Unfortunately, more than just these three were at stake. How does a heart choose? Is the past or future more powerful?
My heart broke for all three. Could anyone truly win?
Brice and Kinsley have faced tragedy and need to work through their emotions to deal with the loss and enable them to move forward in life. This second book of the duet tells more of Ben's story so we find out why he acts as he does. You can now see why Kinsley is confused and pulled in two different directions. We also see more of April and Milo and finally meet June. Nobody tells a realistic tale like Jaxson Kidman, he is the Master of this genre. The characters all have great depth and backstories. The emotions translate for everyone even if you have not been through the same circumstance. His tales are realistic with the same problems, confusion and tragedies faced by real people and not glossed over or not mentioned in other books.
This is the second book in this story so don't read this one before reading part one. With that being said it truly takes 2 books to tell Brice, Kinsley and Ben's story. At some point in this book you are probably going to want to smack all 3 of these characters, well maybe not Brice, but that's life. Even though they are fictional characters, these people are real, they have flaws and they make wrong choices but that's what makes this story so good. It's not another cookie cutter romance., it's a story about real life with all the pain and joy that life gives. You must experience this book!
This book had me on the freaking edge. Had me cursing at the book, heart was hurting while reading this finale on the duet. Wow. Amazing. I am just going to say I wanted to drop kick Kinsley. She really wasn't my favorite person in this Duet. I caught myself cursing her out numerous times while reading. I loved that book one ended w added a third POV and then book 2 was wrapped around all 3 POV's. It really brought the story fully together for me.
This is a total must read but don't sit near anything breakable. Kinsley's @$$ will bring out the ugly in you.
I really have enjoyed Kidman's books and it pains me to rate this one (or the duet really) as a 3 star. The male main characters are really well developed and plausible, but Kinsley just seems rather off. She can't seem to make a decision about the direction she wants to take in her life. Too much left unexplained about her and her motivations. I just didn't like her by the time the duet was done. Bruce deserved more. His life story could have been more richly developed to provide much needed story complexity. Just very disappointing to have bought both books and be given short shrift. Kidman can do better than this!
Loved this, want to give it more than a five star!!!
Wow this duet was phenomenal...Let’s begin with Brice, he absolutely stole my heart, he’s just everything a man should be...I have to admit I was Team Brice from the start.....In the beginning didn’t care for Ben but then started to feel for him when you finally learn why he’s the way he is....I completely understand Kinsley and can relate to her....This story ended perfectly....Jaxson Kidman has out done himself with this one....I Love all of his books but this story is my absolute favorite..
Jaxson Kidman's best work. Emotional rollercoastet
Jaxson Kidman has the ability to address real life subjects and experiences. In this duet he has managed to pour so much detail, emotion, and heartache in the words he has put on the pages of this duet. Once again he has tackled subjects and areas we have all faced but he tells the stories in such an emotional, real and raw way feel the passion of each person in the story. This story deserved to be told over 2 books and each page is worth it. 10/10 JK this is phenomenal!
This second part of the duet was a roller coaster ride of emotions for sure. Kidman follows up Somebody Else with this book, Nobody Else. The love triangle of Brice and Kinsley and Ben and Kinsley is one for the Ages. There is no real or logical solution. You know as you read what you want to happen but as you are reading the author takes the most emotional ways to tell the story. I cried as I read this. It's a beautiful book as is Somebody Else. You Will not be disappointed if you read them.
Kingsley is still coming to terms with her life and her two loves, Ben and Brice. As they also explore their feelings and emotions both past and present, their lives start unraveling. I loved this story of Brice and Kingsley, it was so emotionally charged and beautiful. But Ben, he captured my heart. He was such a good guy but life kept getting in his way, until he figured it out. This was truly a great love story that we can all relate to on some level. I looking forward to reading more books by this author. I would definitely recommend.
It will be really hard to review this book without leaving any spoilers.
So I’m going to be short...First this story was waaayyy to dragged out. Second, what these 2 men let her get away with was bull hocky! Especially how long they let it go on. The only good part about that was getting to see the girl do it to the guys for a change! Lol And finally, if I had to read Ben calling her My Dear one more time I was going to throw my tablet against a wall! I didn’t like him just for that reason. This could have been done in 1 book.
I’m actually feeling totally emotionally drained after reading this book. It has everything you’ve come to expect from a Jaxson Kidman novel, pain, loss, tragedy, high emotion, passion heat, love. Loved the main characters, but Kinsley’s indecision, and her back and forth between Brice and Ben really annoyed me, and I almost wished Brice and April got together. But in the end, it all came together how it was supposed to, and I was happy to see that everyone, even Ben got his HEA
Now Jaxson, I loved your Hidden Creek series. I feel that this one had potential, everything was there.. However the execution fell a little flat for me. I wanted to just shake Kinsley about 80% of the time thru both books in this duet. I wanted to see a bit more ,but a little less back and forth. The books were drawn out (yawn) but the ending and epilogue were rushed. I normally would have read each book in a few hours, but this one took me days of just reading a few pages and getting lost into something else.
I loved the story. I really don't like Ben. He seemed controlling and he never wanted to talk about the past. Kinsley and Brice share a couple of loving and tragic events. Life and love is complicated. The past is what makes you who you are. While reading this story, I went thru a few different emotions. I didn't like Ben in "Somebody Else" either.
Thank you Jaxson for this series. I am sad it is over.
There will be no spoilers in this review. I particularly want to urge anyone reading this review to please read the Duet. These books are about life, love , heartache, heartbreak and how those things are dealt with as only Jaxson Kidman can express. This gifted author will take readers on an emotional roller coaster that will leave you breathless at the end. As with all his books this Duet is well written and hard hitting. Certainly deserving of more than five stars!
