When Lizzie wakes up as Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy, mistress of Pemberley in Georgian England, she's pretty sure it's just a horrendous nightmare. But try as she might, she just can't wake up. And maybe, just maybe, she doesn't want to wake up anyway.

A candid, modernized take on a romance between a present-day Lizzie Bennet and a canon Fitzwilliam Darcy, this book leans into what kind of insight it would take to reconcile one's romantic ideals of the past and genuine passions of the present. Join Lizzie as she takes an abrupt journey from modern San Francisco to 1800s Derbyshire, from a career-minded single life to the sudden domesticity of the wife of landed gentry.

It takes some time for our feminist heroine to tap into her inner damsel - but when she does, will she ever want life any other way? And what of that particular brooding gentleman in modern California, who is still waiting for her answer to his ill-timed question?

This time travel story is really yummy (as Lizzy calls Darcy). The 20th century Lizzie is doubtful about dating her roommate Gigi's brother who is also her colleague. But then she goes back in time to our Darcy as his wife and falls so much in love with him that when she comes back, she is still in love with the modern version who is the same sweet and reserved Darcy of the canon. This book is not perfect, I know. But it was sweet enough for me to ignore the imperfections and love it still.

An amusingly delightful read. Very enjoyable. Is it time travel? A dream? Darcy was definitely a dream of a husband in this tale. Oh, what patience! I recommend it.

Not the worst

I wanted to like this book, but I found the first 3/4 of it maddening. Too much stuttering, not enough of Elizabeth Bennet's cleverness. Just a little flat overall.
