Lucy Parker

Lucy Parker lives in New Zealand, where she feels lucky every day to look out at mountains, lakes, and vineyards. She has a degree in Art History, loves museums and art galleries, and doodles unrecognizable flowers when she has writer’s block.

When she’s not writing, working or sleeping, she happily tackles the towering pile of to-be-read books that never gets any smaller. Thankfully, there’s always another story waiting.

Her interest in romantic fiction began with a pre-teen viewing of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (Firth-style), which prompted her to read the book as well. A family friend introduced her to Georgette Heyer, and the rest was history.

The writer Lucy Parker is one of my favourite writers and I love her ‘London Celebrities’ series. I have read and bought each book separately.

BOOK 1 : ACT LIKE IT (4,5 stars)
I had heard many great things about this book before I read it and after reading it I must agree with all the other readers. ‘Act like it’ is a fun read. it was really good writing, I only found the beginning of the book a bit confusing. As a reader you are introduced to a lot of new characters in a short amount of time. But the moment I knew who everyone was, I really got into the story and I just loved it. Lainie was a really lovely character, she was nice but she didn’t let people walk all over her. The relationship between Lainie and Richard is slowly built and I really liked that. Through the story you get to know Richard better and you can understand why he is, who he is. I like the fact that the story takes place in the West End, it’s a nice difference from the Hollywood scene.
The story is told from both POV’s, there’s no cheating and it’s just a fun and lovely story.

BOOK 2 : PRETTY FACE (5 stars)
Lucy Parker did it again. She made me fall in love with her new book! I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one. I’m so happy about it because after ‘Act like it’ my hopes were very high but Lucy Parker didn’t disappoint!! Just like the first book, this story takes place in the West End of London. Something that I really enjoyed. No Hollywood dramas here, only some English ones. Just like the first book, it took me a little bit to come into the story but once I was in, I was really into it.
Although Lucy Parker wrote about a theme that has been used for many books (younger woman falls for older man), she gave it a fresh touch. I find her stories refreshing, they are filled with humor and emotions. I just love it. The main characters Lily and Luc are really great. The POV’s are told from both side. One of the things that I like in my books is the story behind the scenes, behind the fame and glamour. The hard work, the offers that you have to make, the stress and the fear of failing. Something that I all found in this book.

BOOK 3 : MAKING UP (4,5 stars)
I found it very interesting that although the story again took place in the West End theatre world, this time it was about a circus artist Trix and makeup artist (specialized in special effects) Leo. The chemistry about them was hot and sparkling in every way. In the beginning when they acted like enemies and during the story when the dynamic between them changed from enemies to lovers. Both characters were very likeable, Trix was this energetic, sparkling, bright personality and Leo was more calmer, intelligent and encouraging. In the story you get both POV’s.

It was great that we saw Lily and Luc from the previous story again. And Trix and Leo’s friends and roommates were great second characters too.

Many, many thanks to Tara and Blackjack for adding Parker's newest upcoming book to their "Want to Read" lists and bringing her books to my attention. This is why I love GoodReads!!!

What a fun and delightful ride these three books were! They had all of my favorite things: snarky, witty dialogue, a wonderful cast of characters, steamy romance, and satisfying, heartwarming endings. Definitely on my re-reads list for the future as well as audiobook listens. I actually burst out laughing several times totally startling my husband as we sat quietly reading over the weekend. I mean, what's funnier than the "Twinzies" scene, I ask you??? I'm still chuckling over that one.

PG-13 veering to R rating for the love scenes and some profanity.

Excellent, excellent book!!!

If you like your hero a bit House-ish, i.e., grumpy, intelligent, and suffering no fools, you’ll adore the leading men in London Celebrities. Great behind-the-scenes peeks at the theatrical London life as well.

Lucy Parker is a wonderful writer and I will be reading all of her books. Would give this ten stars if I could.

These three novels parcelled together are absolute gems.

My favourite was Pretty Face. it’s so grown-up and clever and thoughtful and funny and swoony. Luc and Lily are amazing together. When they meet they feel a connection - more like belonging as well as just lust. But there is a power imbalance with Luc 15 years older, established in his career and effectively Lily’s boss. We can feel the chemistry and the tension and the longing and the tenderness as they work to find each other.
The setting is a London theatre and balances a new theatre production, family challenges on both sides, exes, and a snarky and intrusive media.

They are both intelligent and grown-up and their banter is just straight up delicious. The carpal tunnel ;)

With a wonderful insight into London theatre life, Lucy Parker is on fire as a romance writer and this is absolute crack. I’ve also enjoyed the other two in this collection. Highly recommended!

This collection is three separate stand alone books that minimally share some cross over characters. They are all set in London and all revolve around the theater which made the stories that much more interesting to me. The women are strong, well written characters and the men fully developed as well. I like the first two more than the final story but that may have been in part to getting fatigued in seeing essentially the same story arc for the third time. Parker is a good writer and the stories move along quickly to the HEA. Pretty Face, story #2, had some twists I did not see coming which is always welcome in a romance. It also presented a story that made me think about how society treats "stars," believing what we see on the screen and read in the magazines to be a true representation of that person.

I read this on the Kindle after getting a screaming deal on it. The stories are fun, the characters are likeable and the dialogue is pretty funny. I gave it five stars because if this is the kind of escapist fare you are looking for, these books are great for that.

My only argument against this _as a collection on the Kindle_ is that it's difficult to know where you are. Since there are three books in one volume, the percentages don't mean much. Again, that's a quibble for the Kindle reader.

Really enjoyed the first book of the trilogy, it wasn't as cringey as some romance can be. Second book, not so much. Not going to bother with the third.

This was a re-read for me. I had read the first 2 stories several years ago and the third more recently. They all got even better the second time around. Cannot wait to read the "Austen playbook"

Couldn't finish it. By the third book of the same story with different names I'd had enough.

Lucy Parker writes focusing very strongly on the connection rather than the heat. I have a soft spot for Richard Troy as a grumpy bastard but the geekiness of Trix and Leo makes them my favourite couple.
