When Rowan Thomas was dragged into 14th century Scotland, she knew her old life was gone. But the more she learns of her druid nature, the more she questions what she knew—about her sister, herself, and her all-consuming attraction to Taran Skaraven.
The Skaraven Horse Master has always been a man of few words. He sees to the care and well-being of the clan’s mounts, sensing their needs before they do. But his link with Rowan goes beyond anything he’s ever known. Since their first moment together, they have connected so fiercely that he begins to question his judgment and their uncontrollable need to be together.
As the mad druids and their new accomplice lay final plans for the clan’s end, Taran comes to a stunning realization while Rowan forms a dangerous alliance of her own.
Hazel and her husband stopped being separate people years ago. They live their happy life in the always crowded, mostly sunny, and sometimes sweltering city of LA. Though they haven’t managed it yet, plans are afoot to add a kitty to the household, thereby giving the allergist fits.
Hazel has been writing full-time for several years, with some traditionally published work in other genres. But it’s her indie-published romance that fuels the creative fire. It turns out writing isn’t a job, it’s an obsession.
When you can pry Hazel’s fingers from the laptop, you’ll find her: on the elliptical watching a documentary, indulging her audiobook habit, or spending quality time with Candy Crush. Although she’s vegan, she’s a disaster in the kitchen. Luckily, potato chips and pinot noir come ready-made.
This is the last book in the series. I think it is a great ending.
The story has lots of intrigue and delivers what I look for in books by this author. I like the richly developed characters and complicated relationships. It makes for an interesting reading experience.
Taran (Immortal Highlander, Clan Skaraven Book 5): A Scottish Time Travel Romance By Hazel Hunter ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
After Rowan Thomas was pulled into 14th century Scotland, she knew with out a doubt that her old life was gone. She is now druid kind and the more she learns of it, the more she questions what she knew about alot of other things like her sister, herself, and her crazy all consuming attraction to Taran Skaraven.
Taran is the Skaraven Horse Master and has always been a man of few words. As horse master he sees to the care and well being of the clans horses, sensing their needs before they do. For some unknown reason his link with Rowan goes beyond anything he has ever known. Since their first moment together they have connected so fiercely that he begins to question his judgment and their uncontrollable need to be together.
Now as the mad druids and their new accomplice lay their final plans for the clans end, Taran comes to a stunning realization while Rowan forms a dangerous alliance of her own.
Will Taran and Rowan be strong enough to fight the war and become the lovers that they are destined to be? Will Rowan forever be mortal and watch all of clan skraven die together?
Wow Hazel Hunter has done it once again. I'm almost speechless by this brilliant story. Ms. Hunter is incredibly talented and I have enjoyed every book she's ever written. You just never know what is going to happen from one minute to the next. Taran and Rowan had a chemistry that is hard to beat and it took a while for them to realize it. There was never a dull moment in this novel and I am now on pins and needles waiting for her next series
So, as promised, this review is meant to take a look at the entire series "Immortal Highlander, Clan Skaraven".
First thing's first, I think I'd give the entire series a solid 4.5 rating. Is it perfect? No, it's not, but it worked REALLY well for me and here's why:
1. All 5 books are NOT stand-alones. You need to read them all in order to understand the mythology behind the series and to actually follow the story. This means that it's one story that you're following since Book 1 and it really helps. It keeps you hanging on and interested. I really liked it. There are these mad druids that are looking to bring the reckoning upon the world with their wood giants. They aren't exactly the most effective villains you can imagine, but they work. There's a reason why they're bad and they even genuinely love each other. They just happen to be insane and murderous and cruel, but well, they're just about rightly made for you to want them the hell defeated. The heroes, the Skaraven, are also pretty cool. They are revived warriors, bred and raised to be fighting machines and because they were revived, they are immortal (unless you completely cut their heads, in which case, they do remain permanently dead). They also happen to be hot AF and highlanders, which really helps if you're into the time-travelling highlander genre (like me). The heroines are ladies from the future (which REALLY doesn't matter as they are only in the future like for seconds before they're kidnapped) and once they go through these magic portals, their dormant druid blood suddenly awakes and all ladies have powers which are pretty neat.
2. So the characters are developed JUST enough (they are a TAD bit two dimensional at times), but again, it's right in the border where it's as good as you can expect in this type of book (it's not winning a Nobel anytime soon). a) Book 1 - Brennus and Althea are well matched and you're introduced to the whole story. Brennus and Althea keep growing and by book 5, they've pretty much settled into one another and I really liked seeing this. b) Book 2 - Lily and Cade also work pretty well. They have some pretty DIRRRTY scenes in their book, so power to them. Lily is a bit annoying. I haven't checked Hazel Hunter's nationality, but it's very likely she's American and so her personification of Lily is like... gurl no, Brits don't use that expression (yep, just checked, American, of course). c) Book 3 - Emmeline and Ruadri. Suuuuper sweet. I really liked Em. She's probably one of the sweetest characters and this comes through. d) Book 4 - Yes, great, entertaining... my problem with Perrin, in particular, is that she was a kinda a bitch in book 5, but I'll get back to that right now... e) Book 5 - The conclusion of the series (finally) and honestly, it was very good. It wasn't mind-blowing excellent, but hey, it worked. What I liked most about Book 5 was actually Rowan. I have something for characters that are rough around the edges, but they are just trying to hide pain and are misunderstood. Rowan is heavily misunderstood and mistreated and that bothered me quite a lot, though everyone does come around at the end, but I think she was owed even more than she got. Because book 5 is the conclusion, it was more about wrapping up the story and not about Rowan and Taran which I really resented. Also, Taran kinda got the easy way out. Yes, Rowan was lying to protect his ass, but he totally believed it! I mean, come on, Taran, give the woman the benefit of the doubt, especially if she's your druid soul-mate, whatever. Rowan got robbed and Taran should have had to prove himself much more. Again, he got off way too easy. Rowan proved to be everything I wanted. Although a bit predictable, it was equally entertaining.
3) The end... I'm not going to spoil anything, but I will say that it wraps up nicely. Everyone gets theirs in the end. I would have liked more surprises, maybe a bit of a sacrifice from one of the guys in favour of the girls (they all end up staying in the past... it would have been cool to see one of the girls have to return and a guy follow). I did like that everyone played a role and no one played mouse, which was really REALLY important to guarantee that I didn't ultimately want to hang one of the female leads. So again, the story works. It has magic and battles and sex and happy endings. Consequently, totally worth my time (I practically devoured these books, because they are so easy to read).
The stakes are higher than ever, the fight continues… The druids have been victorious with their army of tree giants but to save the human race they must pull out all the stops this is the time to dig deep, be brave and win the war there can be no surrender. Every Skaraven warrior and their even their wives with their special gifts are all sworn to the fight, Rowen and Taran have fallen in love even though they initially tried to fight against their attractions. Rowen has started to have flash backs to her childhood and the abuse she suffered along with her cousin and the way in which her aunt had brewed potions to mask these terrible ordeals, there are a number of other happenings in this tale and it ensures that the reading is never dull it is magical and brave with determined souls fighting a worthy cause, with love a strong and constant companion throughout the section and interaction of the characters. There is lots of action and drama and there were quite a few new faces in this part of the story but it all becomes apparent to the story and as Hazel weaves her magical spell she holds the reader’s attention throughout. Yet another engaging and magical read, another wonderful addition to the series. I voluntarily received and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Taran is the final book in the Clan Skaraven series and it was well worth the wait. Personally, I think Hunter saved the best for last.
In this story, we learn the horse master, Taran, has a secret and if it comes to light, it could cost him. Rowan has secrets too and her demons haunt her...the reader can't help but ask, why?
Once again, there is plenty of action as the forces of evil work against the highlanders to end their clan forever. In this book the reader gets an up-close, personal look into the life and personality of Rowan Thomas. To say she is misunderstood is an understatement. No one knows the "real Rowan Thomas" but Taran Skaraven, the clan's horse master is hoping he has a chance.
Of all the Skaraven's so far, he is my favorite. There is a vulnerability about him (and Rowan) that really brings the story to life. As we learn more about them, readers emotions will be touched.
Join the clan on this final adventure in the series ... you won't be disappointed. It is filled with action, passion, mystery and plenty of evil dwellers who are cloaked in body illusions.
I received an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This one is a keeper.
I really enjoyed this book. This is the fifth and final book in this series and I am so sad to see that it is over. Taran and Rowan story is really great. Rowan is the last of the women and she has not found anyone that wants her. She is constantly angry all the time and you finally get to see her side of the story. Taran he feels something for Rowan but he needs to stay away from her. Every time the two of them are together he seems to be able to control her. He he just can't fathom why. Will Rowan finally get her happy ending like the rest of the women? Will Taran finally be able to let go and open up to how he really feels for Rowan or will stop him. What is the secret that he has been carrying around with him and will it finally be revealed?
I absolutely loved this book. I think that it might have been my favorite out of this series. I just wish that it was not over yet. I received this book free for an honest review.
Rowan was from the twenty-first century taken back in time in time by crazy druids and thier famhairean to Scottish highlands in the fourteenth century. She now lives in Dun mor with the other women taken the the skaraven warriors who the good druids brought back to life and made immortal. To fight the crazy druids and the famhairean and the crazy druids seem to be growing lol. Taran is the horsemaster for the skaraven. He feels something for Rowen he just not willing to show it. Oh and one of the famhairean has a crush on her too. Yeap! This story is wow. The characters are fantastic the storyline amazing it pulls you in I just never wanted it to end. It has everything, mystery, intrigue, betrayal, spice, drama, magic, twists and turns. This story is not to be missed Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.
Hot, sexy, Highlanders- what more can a woman want?
I put off reading this story because it was the last book in the series and I didn't want it to end. Now that a new book starring more immortal Highlanders is coming out soon, I needed to finish it. I am glad I did. These sexy immortal Highlanders and their strong, feisty women always leave me wanting more in this world. This book features Taran and Rowan. They seem to somehow have a like/hate relationship. Everytime they touch or look into each other's eyes strange things happen. The bone conjurer, Murdina, Hendry, and the famhairean all play a very big part in this story. Truths are revealed and wrongs are righted. This is not a standalone book, you definitely need to start with book one in the series. I look forward to the new series from this author!
Taran (Immortal Highlander, Clan Skaraven Book 5): A Scottish Time Travel Romance by Hazel Hunter is a Time Travel, Historical, Ancient World Romance. Another beautifully written, romance by Hazel Hunter, full of action, adventure, twist, turns, love, passion, and a sexy Highlander. Sadly Taran and Rowan's love story is the final book in the Clan Skaraven series. All stories can be read as a stand-alone but are best to be read in order. Don't miss this one or the rest of the series. Knowing that Hazel Hunter will come up with another awesome series helps a little to leave behind this great series and be ready for new adventures and romance. I voluntarily received an arc and this is my honest review.
Not a favorite at all… The author didn't do a very good job of explaining this one for me. The back and forth in the past lives didn't explain what was going on or if they were the original soul-mated or not. I'm still not sure how she was related to Hendry, was that the flashback of when Taran was old and she was young and pregnant? If that's the case doesn't that mean Taran was related as well? Again the author didn't do a very good job at explaining the story, the battle I'm not even going to get into because it didn't make a lick of sense of what was going on. The stuff with Perren and seeing and chopping holes? What? Not a favorite think I'll be done with these now.
Kindle unlimited purchase By Hazel Hunter Rowan is the last of the women to get her Highlander. Her sister Perrin has her man, everyone has their man, when is it going to be her turn? (Now) Taran is the clan's Horse Master and is able to get in a horse's mind and "talk" to it, so he does better with horses than humans. I can't believe this is the last book in this series. I've fallen in love with these men. Wish HH would visit these "clans" again. I mean they are immortal. So years down the way more women could end up back end time. This book ties all the loose ends together. I feel that nothing is left unanswered.
Once again it's time to say goodbye to a wonderful series. As the Clan Skaraven's story comes to a close, the only time-traveling female left is Rowan. I must admit that Rowan has not been the most "likable" character thru out this series. She is gruff, rude and slightly obnoxious but is that truly her? There are a lot of twist and turns as this series reaches it's end. If you haven't already, I suggest you start from the beginning and enjoy this wonderful series.
*I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing*
I’ve read all the books in the Clan Skaraven series and loved them all but I have to admit that Taran is my favourite thus far. The series as a whole is outstanding and I couldn’t think of a better way to bring the series to a close.
The story is jam packed with plot twists and it has sub-plots within the main plot which just makes for an absolutely enthralling read. Taran & Rowan’s story was original, nail biting at times & overall heartwarming and the characters are well-rounded, colourful and incredibly strong.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Dare I say it? This last one is almost perfect! The twist in Taran and Rowan's relationship made me happy and very intrigued! And poor Oriana.. Loved the coordination of the Skaraven attack near the end, and I'm glad of the outce for both Henry and Murdina. Wasn't expecting Rowan's outcome to happen the way it did. But a great story, I think this series ended well, for me anyway, whereas the other series with Lachlan started perfectly. So happy there will be another clan series to come!
What an awesome ending to the series. Rowan has always looked after her sister, in this book we find out why. I felt real anger for what was done to a young Rowan and was extremely disappointed with how she was treated by Taran, the other women and the Skaraven. Taran doesn’t understand his attraction to Rowan, so instead of asking for help, he avoids her. I despaired that these two would actually find happiness, but could soon see where the story was going. I loved this book and enjoyed the twists and turns throughout. This is a series you don’t want to miss.
This was a great way to finish out the Skaraven clan.... it would be fun to see some of the other Highlanders in the clan get women from the 21st Century maybe someone the original women know from their time... or even just another woman totally separate from these women... Hazel Brings depth and color to each of her characters. I have truly enjoyed every book I have read of hers.... Keep up the good work!!!! and Thank you!!! You have made staying Home during the Coronavirus Pandemic so much easier!!!!
The Skaraven series has come to an exciting action filled conclusion. However not before the author gives Taran and Rowan a story filled with secrets, angst, tension, and romance. Rowan gets a story that reveals more aspects of her personality besides her prickly disposition. Taran's interactions with Rowan are conflicted, poignant and filled with chemistry. I enjoyed every minute of their story as well as the entire series. I recommend reading the series in order for optimal enjoyment.
I read this is two sittings because I just had to find out where the author was taking this. Rowan's story was the one I was most looking forward to read because she's Always been portrayed as being so unlikeable. As ever, there are a ton of surprises in this one, the end of the Skaraven clan stories. So much suspense, I loved it!
This is the fifth and final book 📚, in this series and I'm sad 😢that it's ending. This story is filled with action and intrigue, and the chemistry between the characters is wonderful. I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
An end of series, but can be read as a stand alone as well. Rowan was the least liked druidess, but somehow, she managed to grab the attention of 2 suitors, one of the human variety and one of wood. A must read if you like historical times, romance and battles. An excellent read. Surprise ending.
This is another fantastic book from the Queen of Scottish time travel romance. Taran and Rowan's story is full of action, adventure, danger, secrets, mystery, compelling attraction, repressed desire, and love. I loved this wonderful finale for the series, and I can't wait to read what Hazel writes next.
I received a complimentary ARC from the author. This is my honest, voluntary review
This one was different from the others and was better for it. Taran and Rowan were interesting characters, but their "Power" over each other was never really addressed after they became lovers... was it the same as before, or did their consummation of their love make it less? I like the series as a romp across time. And who doesn't love a big brawny Scot?
As always, the stories Miss Hunter brings to her readers are magical and enchanting. This story is probably the most heartwarming one. The least lovable lass ,naturally most suspicious one, finally had made her decision, which I would like to let the other readers find out themselves. Amazing turning point! Highly recommendable!
I read all five books of this series and really enjoyed the characters, what happens to them, how they get along and the journey they take to be with their warriors. I rated it 5 stars as it kept my interest in Time Travel Scottish books and I have now downloaded another series from this author - I hope I like it as much as the last series.
This is the only author who writes any type of time travel books that I enjoy. And she has done it yet again. I just got this and I couldn’t put it down and I had to read it in one sitting. I highly suggest all of her works.
Taran and Rowan fight, flirt, and fall in love throughout adventures, misunderstandings, and passion. Reading this book is a way to spend a fun weekend romp!
I love this series! Each story has amazing depth and engaging characters. I wondered how Taran and Rowan would come together to help save the clan. I'm sorry to see the end of the Skaraven men but look forward to the next book.
Very good ending for the series--I like what she did with the last druidess. I didn't like her much through the series. This book let me know why she was the way she was. I'm not sure about the total personality change, but hey there's magic....
Well, after the first four books, I thought I knew what to expect. This book continues and concludes the story arc and has the characters we know and love, but with some new elements. Excellent book and conclusion to the series.
