It took about an hour to read this book and it is hands down the very best piece of educational theory I’ve ever read. Easy to understand, concise, well grounded in science, integrating neuro-cognition and education. And, rare among educational scientists, this author practises what he preaches, providing mnemonics, summaries, examples, analogies, little assignments and questions to digest and remember the theory.
A highly recommended little book for every teacher and learner. And aren’t we all?

Very clear and practical explanation of five key principles in applying neuroscience and psychology to teaching and learning. Its shortness is a big plus as it makes it easy to read and focused. If I implemented these concepts regularly in my classroom, I think my students would probably be doing a lot better. Knowing and doing are two different things. Thinking seriously about sharing with colleagues and maybe my students. Digital pdf available free online:

The MARGE method in this fast-paced pamphlet is great: tremendously simple to implement and enormously helpful to promote learning. The book, however, seems uncertain of its audience. It introduces itself as a guide for teachers planning learning experiences, but much of the rest of the book is written as a study guide for secondary or post-secondary students. An understandable reflection of the author’s role as a teacher of teachers, but it muddies the recommendations, which would otherwise be concrete, actionable strategies for readers.

This was brilliant. Very accessible to non experts (like me), quick to read and above all it made me re-evaluate how I study.
