Après de nombreuses années dans le milieu du fanzinat, Nikki Asada lance profesionnellement sa carrière en 2008, avec une histoire courte intitulée Hatsukoi Cheers (dans le “Monthly Princess” d'Akita Shoten).

En 2010, elle débute sa toute première série, Bienvenue au club, toujours dans le “Monthly Princess” d'Akita Shoten. Cette série s'impose très vite auprès d'un lectorat mixte, grâce à ses personages sensibles… et surtout comiques ! Le succès est tel que Bienvenue au club totalise aujourd'hui déjà 8 volumes.

Grâce à ce premier gros succès, la mangaka se fait remarquer, et commence de nombreuses autres séries chez d'autres éditeurs : Navigatoria (dans Be Love, de Kôdansha), Yowatomo (dans PASH! De Shufutoseikatsusha) ou même Meitanteibu kono ato sugu ! (dans Young Ace de Kadokawa Shoten). Cela n'est pas tout, puisque Nikki Asada illustre également Kanagatari, un essay-manga scénarisé par la très célèbre Kana Hanazawa (doubleuse, chanteuseet actrice). Il lui arrive également assez fréquemment de signer des illsutrations pour les concerts et goodies officiels de cette dernière.

Fin mai 2014, la mangaka très prolifique, débute encore une nouvelle série : Hoshigami-kun ha doukashiteiru sera prépublié dans le magazine shôjo très ado Dessert, de Kôdansha. Cela lui fera donc 5 séries en cours !

I thought this was slightly different at first, but also predictable. Nima has a curse where, every time she plans on asking out a guy, someone beats her to it, no matter who it is. She is invited to join the Heartbreak Club, where the president can observe the strangeness of Nima's situation. In the club are two other boys, but Nima might just be falling for one! How will that effect her strange curse? And what happens when another girl who has the opposite power of Nima finds interest in the same guy?

Overall, I loved the art and thought the story was pretty cute, but already deviates back to a normal high school romance type of novel by the end, with little to keep it unique. Nothing bad about that, and it's still a fun story!

Welcome to the Heart Break Club. A club with 4 people, one girl (our MC) who, as soon as she falls in love, loses the guy to another girl. No clue how she does it, but it is one hell of a terrible superpower to have. Then there is the guy who looks fabulous as a girl and only turned to a girl side for his childhood friend who is a man-hater. The anime nerd who is very hot and I am sure has a backstory as well. Yori, the president, who finds love troublesome, which mostly has to do with her mom leaving her family for another guy.

They are all interesting characters and I am delighted that the author takes time to introduce us to these characters. The first chapter mainly focuses on our MC, the second one on Takeshi (the guy who had the long hair), the third on Yori. Of course even with those chapters being about those characters the focus is also on Nima and her bad luck with guys.

Really, it is one magical superpower that Nima has. One time she picked a guy from 10 photographs and within minutes he had a girlfriend, who wasn’t Nima. :P I actually feel sorry for the girl. Every time she looks so much at a guy or feels feelings for him she knows she will lose him.

We see her and Takeshi getting quite close, but Nima is trying not to fall for him, she doesn’t want to lose him, their friendship or love. is sad

I wasn’t too sure how I felt about the girls in the school all flocking to Nima for offerings and prayers. Guys, really? That poor thing keeps losing the guys she likes and all you can think off is that she is some kind of cupid. Why don’t you for once realise that this isn’t a superpower you would want to have, and that Nima is actually feeling dang sad about it?

We also meet a new girl named Kana, who has the reverse of Nima. If she falls for someone, they will fall for her. Seems kind of like an awesome superpower… but then we learn certain things about this girl, and hot dang. That is just effed up.

I guess I will need to find volume 2 as I do want to see how the situation is going to be resolved. What Kana is doing is a bad bad thing. :|

The art is pretty great, I do like the style. I love how the characters are designed/drawn.

All in all, I already was in love with this series because of blurb/cover, but now I am in love further. This is one good story, and I am curious to see if they are able to help Nima.

I was positively surprised by this manga that I had never heard of before. Heart Break Club is actually better than most of the shoujo manga out there, but sadly so the cover isn't all that successful and the font looks cheap no matter how you look at it. The original covers are so much better! The manga is about high school kids and Momosato in particular, who falls in love with guys that always fall in love with someone else. She's always "the other girl" and people start to see her as a Cupid of sorts. She ends up in a love triangle club and then it's mostly about odd occurrences and the people in the club. The occurrences are great and interesting, which makes this work quite well actually. The center group of the club is multifaceted and everyone has a persona, although sometimes the pattern is very cliched. The most I enjoyed Okinoshima and how he actually is a really normal guy without being bleak - something you don't see that often in manga.

The art is OK, but really nothing spectacular. It works with the story line well, but is a bit too simple for shoujo. There's hardly anything in the background, so the panels feel empty and hollow somehow. Still, Heart break Club is a good manga and interesting too. The plot isn't too cliched, so you actually want to read more to know what happens. So, a good shoujo, even though not mind-blowing. But, does it always need to be even?

The first volume of manga of Asada's work that introduced me to what she can do as a mangaka. Super thankful to the expanding world of digitized manga because as soon as I read this volume I devoured the rest of the series within two weeks. Heart Break Club follows one Nima Momosato, who is unusually unlucky with boys--as soon as she crushes on a boy and confesses or gets ready to--he's quickly in a relationship, this marking her as the 'warm up' act. She is asked to join a club that observes and researches other people's love lives and becomes friends with an eclectic bunch: a hot anime otaku , a super serious-non nonsense girl who views love as an experiment and a drop down gorgeous girl who happens to be a boy who cross dresses.

The first volume goes full speed ahead and starts laying down the tracks for a multi-layered story with a host of character that don't bloat the narrative but truly add to it. It IS a high school drama, it is also wonderful tale of falling in love, learning lessons on who a friends is, and choosing to be more than who everyone tells you that you are--forging your own identity. I really like how Nikki Asada runs from hilarious to heart jerking in a drop of a hat and back to it. If you like shojo manga, you should try this one out if you;re looking for a 10+ volume series.

This is a fun, lighthearted romance series that was a fun read, despite the low score. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone looking for a fun romantic comedy. The only reason why I can't give it a higher score is because the art style and designs are okay and the characters have potential but didn't grab me immediately. Nima is a fun character but doesn't do much but react to everyone around her, Yoriko is interesting but plays the "research girl lacking in emotion" without a whole lot of variation, and Okkio is a boy that crossdresses as a girl because the girl he likes hates men (I have to say, I do enjoy the line of reason). The volume ended on a pretty serious cliffhanger so I will definitely download the second volume. If you want a fun romance, give this one a try.

I love manga and it is ones like this one that remind me about how cute and funny, shoujo manga can be. I had a fantastic time reading this and was sad when I finished it.

I love all the characters and think I see where the romance is going, which should be cute. The art is clean and nice to look at. I almost laughed out loud, but not quite.... yet. I will be continuing this series, so I'm betting that eventually it will get a laugh out of me.

I'm so bad at reviewing manga-- especially ones I liked. I adored this and plan to continue reading it. If you like quirky romance stories, you should definitely give this one a try.

Nima is jinxed, every time she falls in love with a guy, he ends up falling in love with another person in front of her eyes.

This manga was lighthearted with an interesting concept. I really liked the art style. I would definitely recommend for beginners and long time shoujo-romance fans. It was quick and easy to read.

Joining the Heart Break Club could possibly help our main character because she's having no luck in love because whenever she's interested, someone beats her to it, so enters a group that will watch her like a curious science experiment to try to fix the issues.

Fun manga with hopeless romance at it's heart and an entertaining premise that while predictable is what makes it most of the fun. Who will she end up falling for because we know it should probably work out in the end!

Cute Manga

There's not too much to say about this, mainly, it's cute and it made me laugh. The heroine has an unfortunate habit of falling for guys who promptly start dating someone else, which attracts the interest of the school's heart break club. Laughs and drama commence.

It's a quick read, and fun, so I would recommend it.

This manga was filled to the brim with fluff. I didn't feel extremely connected to the characters or the story. I am interested enough, though, to read the next one.

This was such a cute graphic novel! I loved following Nima and her band of misfit friends as they explore love and relationships. I loved all the characters were introduced and that each chapter ended with a couple of short vinaigrettes about the characters hi-jinks. This flew by so quickly and i was surprised to find a read most of it in one sitting.

Ce premier tome ne m'a pas énormément convaincu. Les différentes histoires des personnages, qui n'ont de cesse d'échouer en amour, acquièrent rapidement un effet répétitif. Pourtant les situations sont variées, chaque échec est mené différemment et il y a une certaine évolution dans ce qui est raconté, mais la sauce n'a pas complètement pris. Au bout d'un moment j'étais lassée de ce qu'on me racontait. Après, quelques passages m'ont plu, mais pas au point d'avoir envie de me jeter sur le tome 2 non plus. À vous de voir si ça peut vous plaire.

This manga was very cute and a great start for this series. The main character was really interesenting to get to know. A girl who is constantly the warm-up act for others love lives. Ever time she likes a guy another girl and him end up together. This makes her an interesting subject of study to the Heartbreak Clubs leader. From there this club is full of surprises. And maybe even a bit of romance? Check out the rest of the series to find out!
I personally cant wait to read more.

Ahhhh I loved it, I love the art, the characters and the angst. Poor Nima is jinxed if she falls in love the guy finds love with someone else. This is really fun and addictive, I love these type of manga and they're so cheerful and light hearted, the perfect pick me ups. The comedy is great, perfect angst and tension, so good I'm off to get the next because I need to know what happens next and hope Nima gets her guy.

Thank you netgalley for such awesome book. I like reading manga and this was a very funny and unique story one. And Nima the character I guess we all relate to her in some way or other. So this was very good and short read can't wait to read more of this!!
