⤐ Overall.
What I noticed straight away was A.J's writing. It's typically not the overly prose-like writing of some hyper-artistic writer that get's my attention. They tend to lose themselves in their art which makes it hard for the reader to follow their true intention: narrating a story. For examples of such unnecessary prose look here and here. A. J. did a great job finding a way to tell an interesting story while making the best of the writing tools given to her. Just some elaborate vocabulary here, a witty phrase there and some exciting syntax in between and I'm a happy little reader.
Plot-wise, this was pretty much the Norse equivalent of a Greek Tragedy™. At first, the whole I saw him and I knew he was my soulmate narrative really put me off. As we unravel the background to this sentiment, however, I actually came to appreciate A.J.'S interpretation of a somewhat futuristic version of Norse mythology.
Without me actually noticing it, throughout the story, the characters wriggled their way into my heart as well. I got quite annoyed with them in the beginning but came to understand them and see them for what they are: old creatures with desires and flaws.
The only criticism I can truly bring to the table - and there must be some considering my rating - that the engagement rate wasn't exactly peaking at any point of the story.
⤐ What’s happening.
As a valkyrie, it is Val's job to find a soul and lead it to the afterlife, to life in Valhalla for eternity. But Val keeps finding herself in a sort of Groundhog Day situation: The soul she found and deemed to be hers forever ... she has met him before. And this time, Val's determined to not let anything keep her from loving Will. Not even Freya or Odin or past lovers-turned-best friends.

4 STARS. Would stay up beyond my typical hours to finish it. I found some minor details I didn't like, agree with or lacked in some kind but overall, this was enjoyable and extraordinary.
3 STARS. Decent read that I have neither strongly positive nor negative feelings about. Some thinks irked me and thus it does not qualify as exceptional.

Can I interest you in some… futuristic Norse mythology? Then welcome to the world of valkyries. Obviously, for people who enjoy nitpicking mythological facts, this might not be the tea.

I was given only the first two chapters of this book, I think in some giveaway.
I think it's unique and a fresh point of view on North mythology more futuristic. Very creative. Of course I can't say for sure but so far so good

I loved this book. It’s my favorite book by this author to date! I was sucked in from the first page. I can not wait to read the rest of the series!

Set in the future or in the current world where Valerie the daughter of Freya (who at this point is some futuristic cyborg living in space) is sent down to reap a powerful soul of Will Johnson. The only problem is that she falls in love with Will, breaking the first law of the Valkyries. Which could bring down the wrath of the gods, Thor, Odin and her mother Freya....
Most of this book takes place in a present day high school, but it's not really an academy book. I really enjoyed this new take on Norse Mythology and the clean romance. If you loved Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles you will love this cyborg/space/futuristic look at Valkyries.

This was a nice story of love conquers all. Although you don't have the ending yet. The idea of the myths woven into the story are good and it should entertain a lot of people. There was some angst that brought the story together.

Often felt difficult to follow the point of the story, lots of unnecessary prose. Ending felt rushed (270 page build up for a quick 10 page ??battle). Characters were not particularly likeable either to be honest.

I have to say this first: Is that cover not just the most beautifully powerful image? Everything about it is perfection.
I’ve always loved the idea of Norse mythology – I say the idea of it, because I realise that until this book I hadn’t investigated it much, except for knowing about Valkyries in passing and having a deep and abiding obsession with all the Thor movies. My obsession rears its head as I read this book because every time a concept or word is familiar my brain goes into excitement overload and I feel like all that screen time wasn’t a complete waste!
This book was a bit different to being “just” Norse Mythology; while that was it predominantly, there was also a bit of a Sci-Fi angle to it with space ships and such, but again, my Avengers-affiliated brain could totally see that happening, although it did initially take some adjustment of reading back and forth in the beginning to fully understand what I was reading and to not feel confused by it. Once I acclimatized, the plot and the flow of the action fully pulled me in.
I enjoyed Val’s character; she’s feeling clueless and a floundering a bit with all her memories wiped, and she doesn’t quite know what to do or who to trust (the more she fights the battles against her mental blocks, the more it seems like everyone is a bit questionable), but, she trusts her instincts and she’s a strong, likable and relatable character (aside from the immortal with wings bit if you’re going to get technical about it). I enjoyed the twists and turns and the fact that I was left wondering, from one page to the next, if I was right about certain people or not.
Some of the characters’ purposes and motivations are a bit up in the air for me but that’s the thing about a series: You don’t really know until it’s done. Also, there isn’t really a lot that we see in the connection between Val and Will, nothing from the past and very little in the present, and heaven knows that boy makes her work to… do… stuff (I refuse to give spoilers). I am hoping that we see more of this developing in future books.
There is still so much I need to know and so much information that I need to uncover and some questions that I still need answered along with memories that need to be remembered! While this book isn’t exactly a cliffhanger in the fact that… how much of a spoiler are you looking for?? I will say that you do end with the expectation that more must come.
It has to, because the ending for this book felt a bit sudden and didn’t feel as rounded off or resolved as I would have liked, even for one part of a whole. But as I’ve said, that’s the thing about a series; it could be that Book 2 flows seamlessly on and there aren’t supposed to be mini-endings before the actual end. I’m quite excited to see how the rest of it plays out.
If your mind is open to the possibilities of magic and other worlds and immortality and space ships then I would suggest giving this one your investment.

Love the Norse Mythology and storyline!
This is the story of a Valkyrie, sent to Earth to reap a strong human soul cursed by the Norns, before they can harvest what’sleft after their curse on him.
This is Val’s first assignment and being new at this, she soon realizes that reaping a soul isn’t such an easy thing to do. Not physically as she needs to have a bond with him firstso he trusts her enough but also morally... She questions whether it should be easy (being a Valkyrie means not having many emotions, it seems) or whether it is the right thing to do or not.
So she’s sent to Earth in a human body, with big sister Sam, who’s a pro at this, as her mentor. The Valkyries on Earth do have some assistance from the Gods as in the programming Grimhild does: it’s a sort of brainwash-program, providing necessary or useful information to the Valkyries and enveloping every human in the vicinity to ensure the humans stay clueless of the immortals and their worlds no matter what they might overhear. At the same time they’re getting an incentive to help the immortals achieve their goals if they can be of some help. And because of the programming, they stay clueless even when they’re helping.
But this time, things don’t quite go as planned. Seducing him would have been effortless (and also a bit necessary for him to trust her enough to let her reap his soul) if not for the unforseen sort of bodyguard Will has, his niece, Jules. All of the Gods and their programming failed to notice the niece’s existence completely. Jules turns out to be a very hostile girl determined to keep Val and Will apart. But besides the fact that his niece is trying her best to paint Val in the worst light ever, Will and Val are drawn to eachother. Is it just the bond between Valkyrie and their human they’re assigned to reap or is it more? The first law of the Valkyries is ‘don’t fall in love’ and punishment for breaking that law is severe.
This is a lovely love story in a (Norse) Mythological setting, that has a fine ending on it’s own, should you wish to stop after the first but has some unresolved things so I for one am looking forward for the next one!

This was a fast moving and intricate story incorporating many of the old Norse myths into present day situations. It was fascinating how the old gods translated into modern day individuals while maintaining their supernatural flair.
I enjoyed listening to the audio book as the narrator brought each character alive as their story unfolded.

Val has been sent to find the soul that is headed to Valhalla . She is sent down to highschool where cheerleaders are evil and pool parties and boys are just not what Val was expecting . She is having a hard time fitting in and there is something that is following her. She has to save the soul she is destined to save or they all could be dead at the end of the day .
This is a ya book full of Norse mythology and such good characters . Val is a valkyrie that is sent down to reap her first soul to go to Valhalla. She is a sweet girl who comes off a little naive but sweet . She is more though , she has a job to do but is having a trouble doing it . There is more to what is going on with poor Val . Sam is her sister and also a Valkyrie who is strong and a mentor . She is all business and wants Val to do well . Tyler is her best friend and her body guard , he is a funny guy with an aura of calm to keep Val safe. He is also a warrior here to help her in doing what ever needs to be done . Jules well she is a wild child that wants to keep Will and Val apart. She is a wild one who when push comes to shove will do whatever it takes to keep Will safe. These characters are very well written and complex .
This is one of these books that you have to sit down and enjoy. It is mix of Norse mythology and sci fi. The story hits the ground running and kept the pace through out the book .The characters are well written and you will like them or hate them at the same time . I don’t really read Norse mythology so this was a first and what really got me was the cover art.
As I started reading, it gave me Fallen vibes and since I made that connection I couldn’t not see it that way. Between the two, I’d like to think that Fallen was better written and if I had to choose, I’d pick Fallen to read instead.
A high school swimmer, William, has been cursed and the Valkyrie, Valerie has been sent to earth to reap his soul. Apparently this isn’t the first time she’s attempted to reap his soul. Her memories of him get wiped every time.
Throughout the story, Valerie tries to find a way to break the curse and save him, but in doing so, another sacrifice needs to take his place. I just felt like Valerie had been selfish and she should have left things as they were and did what she was sent to earth to do. Some of her actions caused more harm than good. Was the end result worth it?! I don’t know, it kind of ended with a cliffhanger as well.
Since the only Norse mythology I know about is that of Disney and Marvel, I was a bit thrown off with either how the characters and terms the authors chose to depict them. It was definitely an adjustment.
As much as the cover art for the second book looks tempting. I don’t think I’ll be continuing the series, unless I have to.

Throughout the story, Valerie tries to find a way to break the curse and save him, but in doing so, another sacrifice needs to take his place. I just felt like Valerie had been selfish and she should have left things as they were and did what she was sent to earth to do. Some of her actions caused more harm than good. Was the end result worth it?! I don’t know, it kind of ended with a cliffhanger as well.
Since the only Norse mythology I know about is that of Disney and Marvel, I was a bit thrown off with either how the characters and terms the authors chose to depict them. It was definitely an adjustment.
As much as the cover art for the second book looks tempting. I don’t think I’ll be continuing the series, unless I have to.

This YA fantasy romance is not your usual Norse mythology love story. Souls are needed to help in the fight to prevent Ragnarok and it is time for Valerie to prove herself a Valkyrie by reaping the soul of High School student William Johnson. Will and Valerie have a long past that she does not now remember, as she broke the first law of the Valkyrie and fell in love, but will taking her memories allow her to succeed this time around or will she fail and destiny once again repeat itself? This story has a unique take on the Norns, gods, goddesses and the Valkyrie, mixing Norse mythology and technology, with a splash of sci-fi thrown in there too. This makes it all very different from the traditional portrayals and adds interests and intrigue to the characters and the story. I especially like the authors twist on the Norns. Val is a character you soon learn to like as you see her struggle with the mental blocks imposed on her and her role as a Valkyrie. She is naive but strong and brave too, and is unsure how to succeed at her task or even if it is right to do so. I would have liked to have seen more hints of her past relationship with Will but that may come in the next book. The narrator of the audiobook did a good job of giving the characters individuality and was easy to listen to. I enjoyed the the twists and uncertainties in the story and will look forward to seeing how the everything develops in the next book.

ONE AWESOMELY RIVETING READ!!!
Man, oh man! Talk about hitting the ground running. This dynamo was jet propelled. One action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, pulse racing, heart pounding, exciting, page turning tale that will rock your world. Man, we asked and Flowers delivered in the most thrilling and explosive of ways. All the twists and turns, ins and outs, along with unpredictable surprises that will keep your focus on the pages and frozen to your seat. Drama, intrigue, suspense and danger builds throughout and tension spirals as the tale unfolds. The characters are so realistic and believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. You feel all the emotions as they feel, biting your nails as they do when it's getting deep. The depth and layers of the characters are complex as well as defined. You really get a feel for them as you follow along as they grow into the roles created for them. The scenes are impressive and graphic it really pulls this little treasure together beautifully. I can't wait to see what Flowers has in store for us in the next installment. Something magnificent I'm willing to bet. I would highly recommend this read to anyone who loves a fantastically otherworldly treat. Flowers did a remarkable job bringing this read to life flawlessly. This immediately started out quite badly.
Our Valkyrie is sent to acquire a powerful soul needed to fend off Ragnarok that threatens to destroy their homeworld and eventually the universe.
The first thing that happens is that her Valkyrie sister spends their entire budget on an expensive car. I get that this was supposed to be funny, but I find things like that just frustrating. Why bother using the time to save the world if you can work minimum wage to survive instead. Priorities.
Very little care was taken with any kind of consistency. This is probably going to just be a shallow and fun teen school drama but it completely missed the tone by starting out with saving the universe from Ragnarok.
On top, we have all kinds of extremely high-tech capabilities that make the entire plot setup redundant as said technology could clearly solve most of their problems with ease. But the author didn't even try to come up with an excuse why this isn't possible and it very much seemed like the author has already forgotten about all of it 5 minutes into the book.
So this much of a scathing review just for the first 10 minutes or so of the audiobook. 'nuff said.

I'm a bit on the fence on how I should rate this one.
If I'm going by the first 30% maybe 45% of the book I'd give it 3.5 stars. This books was really hard to get into. I felt as if going into this book I should've read a prequel or maybe another book to kind of give the reader the back history on the Norse mythology and Val's past life & mistakes that she's made.
However, as I got more and more into the story I can understand why the author wrote the beginning the way she did. Going into this if we already knew about Val's past with Will and Tyler and the ongoing battle she had with reaping his soul it wouldn't allow for us (the reader) to get to know and understand the characters as well as get a feel for how Val feels when she discovers that she's been on this journey 3 or 4 times before with ending results.
As Val goes through the journey to try and get Will's trust she gets pieces of her memory back from Tyler, Sam, and a variety of characters who are on Earth to ensure her mission goes off without a hitch. The first rule of the Valkyrie is not to fall in love. But Val has already broken this rule and now she's got to find a way to save Will and his soul without having to kill him or losing him to madness.

This is not your forefathers' Norse mythology! The names are the same, but the Gods, Goddesses and other beings are totally different from their namesakes, and are the author's creative interpretation. Meet Valerie (Freya and Odin's Frigg valkyrie love child), Samantha (older sister and mentor) and Tyler (Val's friend and protector, a Valiant). They are searching for a soul to reap, to add to their army. They found him in the body of Will. Val and Will have a history that they've both forgotten; but the memories begin to resurface. Unfortunately, the first rule for valkyries is 'do not fall in love', which apparently Val has broken numerous times in the past, but had the memory erased. They must protect Will from the Norn who is here to claim him for her own dark purpose. Val doesn't know whom to trust as an ally, she's afraid both . She will need all the help she can get to save Will from Freya and the Norns.
I didn't like the frequent misuse of words, which did not fit the context. I didn't like the run-on sentences. I did like the ideas in the story, the characters and their interactions; it's worth reading for those reasons.

Who are Val, Sam, and Tyler? Where are they from? Where do we find them? What are their jobs? Who is Michael? Who or what is Jules? Why does she dislike Val so much? What happens when Val falls in love? When she visits Michael, what happens when she tells him who she is? Why does Freya summon Sam and Val? What is the curse that is on Will? Who or what are the Norn? What happens when a Valkyrie's memories are suppressed? Why are they suppressed? Who is Baldr? I like Mr. Jefferson, the World History teacher! Elaina is an interesting character. What must ultimately happen in order to save Will is astounding. This was an interesting read.

I received a free copy for an honest review. An interesting take on Valkyries, The Norn, and Norse mythology in general, mixing the mythology with spaceships and such. My opinion of Val wavered between "yaaaaas" and "what the heck are you doing?" At times she seemed so brave and smart and then others, she just let her love and compassion give way to naiveté. I didn't know what to think of Will for most of the time. Sam was alright. Tyler was annoying in that way that guys are but his loyalty, although misconstrued, to Val was endearing. Penny was annoying at first but then she became alright. I'm just confused about Jules altogether and I'm pretty sure her motives for helping Will weren't purely altruistic. I'm confused by the ending of this book, emotional-wise. Overall, it was good writing.

A.J. Flowers delivered a very good story that flipped everything I thought I knew about Norse mythology completely upside-down! The story is told from the perspective of a Valkyrie in the body of a teenage human, and the writing comes across exactly as such. It made for a very believable point of view!
I particularly enjoyed Val's growth and her self discoveries along the way. I can honestly say I did not see that identity revelation coming! This story absolutely earned its five golden goddess stars!

Beginning to finish this has been non-stop action and adventure. Exactly what you would expect when you have Valkyries involved. Especially when it is a mix of Norse Mythology with some Sci-Fi twists added to it. I love how it contains a mixture of magic and technology. Making this once again another one of Flowers fresh, unique and wildly entertaining stories.
So entertaining that I was so surprised at the twists and turns in this! As soon as you think you've figured out who is what, something else is thrown in the mix! And I love it!!! You're kept on your toes until the very end of the book!
Now...I need more. So much more!!!

Action packed from the very first page, Valkyrie Landing by AJ Flowers is a seamless blend of Norse Mythology, technology (Science fiction and fantasy?) and an original take on Valkyries.
There is a lot happening in this non-stop action and fast paced adventure.
The Author has intricately woven mythology and technology and mixes it all up in this creative and interesting tale where the pacing kept me completely engrossed.
Scenes and settings described in a colourful and realistic manner.
Characters are slowly developing as the story unfolds.
Wonderful reading! I look forward to the next book in the series.

Disjointed read..
The book cover looked beautiful and I thought the storyline would be good too. Except, the story started with the mc being turned into human to reap someone's soul. There was no story build up or romance development. The story was told. Told that the mc was a valkyrie who could control her power of time freeze. Didn't care for the way the story was told requiring the reader to put things together without any explanation.
No characters development on this one. It felt like there was another book before this one. This was DNF for being a confusing boring read. This was basically a soul reaper type of book. Pass on this one for sure.

Valkyrie Landing is an awesome book. It is action packed from beginning to end. This is a combination of technology and Norse mythology. A.J. has created a unique story with a strong main character, Val, who I really, really like. I found it very difficult to stop turning pages, needed to know what was coming next. I am looking forward to reading the next in series, Valkyrie Rebellion, to see what happens next. This is a story I highly recommend. Received a copy and this is my voluntary and honest review.

This book is a really cool mash-up Of Norse mythology and sci-fi. I thought there were some really interesting concepts and ideas. I honestly felt it was really confusing in the beginning—I had to reread quiet a few times before I realized it wasn’t me misreading. If you stick with it there are some fast paced well-written scenes. Overall, it didn’t keep me because of the consistent confusion and at times it didn’t flow well. The ending also felt rushed and incomplete.

I thought this series was interesting. I like how it incorporated the Norse mythology throughout the book. I’m not sure about the MC. At times I loved her and at times she was a bit annoying but I chalked it up to it being YA and perhaps why she would throw caution to the wind occasionally. Lol
I’ll forgive her. I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator was okay. I had to listen to it at a faster pace then normal bc I felt like the narrator was a bit flat and boring. I would suggest listening to a sample first to see if it’s a voice you would enjoy.

i did not like this. i didnt like the writing at all, i felt some things were quite odly phrased i did not enjoy it!! the characters were also lowkey boring and their motive for doing stuff felt stupid. also they just felt kinda dumb😭😭 like they did the randomest stupidest things and were shocked by the outcome?? like hello?? ALSO at the beginning theres a glossary and it says “the keywords contain spoilers”. so i didnt read it but then i was confused the whole time. like whats the point of the glossary then?? anyways i did not like this at all 2.5 is generous in my opinion.

"Wow! It's been quite a long time since the last time I read about the scandinavian mythology and Geez I forget how much I liked it. The blurb sounded promising and it wasn't a lie. From the first page the story had my attention. The mystery was catchy and intriguing plus the 'romantic part' was different but also good. Sadly, it was a young adult. I say sad because some hot scenes would have been perfect. The ending was shocking, there's no doubt about that. Next book please!"

Got this for free on stuff your kindle day. Started reading it a while later, and just.... I like the idea. I like the premise. But it's very YA, and feels very young. Too young for me to enjoy. If the writing style or the character was more mature it might be different, but it feels very teenagery to me for a being who is supposed to be hundreds of years old and part of a legendary legion of valkyries.
