Weird Vienna: a hilarious city guide

Rate this book
A hilarious look at Vienna.
Vienna is world-famous for music, art, history, pastries, wine, and a certain old-world charm. But Vienna is also a place of weird things and weridos, morbidity, and a very sarcastic (but always sugar-coated) sense of humor.viennese-born and based author Harald Havas has a sharp eye for these more or less hidden details. And loves to explore them through a looking glass tinted with humor.

While I appreciate the idea behind this book, I still did not enjoy it as much due to the writing style and how this book was presented. The book went into a lot of detail describing things, but there weren't a lot of photos to showcase them so that I could see how those things looked like in real life. The writing in this was, like I said before, too descriptive and to the point that it felt long-winded and info-dumpy. I was expecting this to be a fun Alternative Guidebook where I could learn some interesting not-well known facts about Vienna, but instead I got a book that was more droning and dull than a school textbook!

Bought the book on last day of my trip to Vienna. There are a lot of interesting insights on random and not-so-random things. I enjoyed reading it, though felt like a lot of images are missing. A lot of times had to google everything just to get an idea of what exactly the author is describing considering. I think if there would be more photos of places described that would make the whole reading process much more enjoyable.
