Honestly probably a 5 star read, but it lost me at the end. I went a wee bit above my head and maybe one day when I’m older I’ll read this book and understand the revelation and love it, but rn I was just happy to finish it. Loved the beginning chapters! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I started reading this book back in 2020 and only read a couple times and then set it aside. Well, I wanted to take up some of the books parked on my reading list so I started it all over just recently. I was quickly reminded why I set it aside. This is an exercise in reading a primer on pentecostalism {not Pentecost; pentecostalISM, the cult practice of speaking in strange tongues (rather than the unknown tongues of Pentecost) and looking down at anyone who does not}. In addition there were some passages of scripture that were twisted to strange meanings to support the pentecostalism agenda. Certainly there were some good chapters and some helpful and insightful quotes in the book; it wasn't all bad. But it was my least favorite book by Brian & Candice Simmons; and was a two-star disappointment for me. YMMV!
Each chapter has insights to treasure and reflect on, in meditation.
Special moments for me: - the breastplate of the high priest with its twelve precious stones was a picture of the New Jerusalem being carried over the heart of the priest as he ministered before God. - the Hebrew word for intercession is paga which means to struggle by prayer, to press forward, to travail, to weep, to come between, to touch, to reach, to strike the mark, to attack, to fall upon. Our holy argument with God can avert or postpone judgment. - the Greek word for evil is "poneros", from a word for pain. And related to "penes", poor. - the entire chapter on apostolic prayer. - the secret stairway of Song of Songs 2:14
I feel like this book was a brain dump on EVERYTHING Simmons knows and believes about prayer. And I underlined a ton of the book. It was great. But, b/c there was so much info, it just felt jumbled together. So, walk thru it with a pencil and journal, treating it like a mentoring session with Simmons (which would be a dream come true!) and less like a book to follow.
If you are looking for a book with a lot of spiritual depth, this is the book. It is meant to be read slowly and dwelled upon. The author writes with the assumption that the reader will take their time to investigate further on their own statements that the author makes. The book is also written in a way that is best understood if you yourself are in tune with the Holy Spirit so that you can catch different meanings. It has some powerful points in it.
This book will have you thinking more deeply about your prayer life
If you are familiar with the work of the authors you will not be disappointed in this book, it is deeply devotional through and through.
I love to read books about prayer as it motivates me and deepens my own prayer life. Many people report the problem of coming up against a stale season of prayer, a time when motivation flags. Reading books like this one will inspire you and help you to stay with it.
This book will have you thinking more deeply about your prayer life, what prayer is about, and why prayer is an important part of your life
This excellent opening of the door to the heavenly Throneroom is the key to entering into the wonderful Presence of Almighty God. Each chapter contains a valuable lesson on how to pray fervently and effectively.
after a church member left this book behind, my pastor challenged me to read it in a week. i did, and it was a very beneficial experience. totally recommend this book, the way the authors explained the concepts made a lot of sense, and was inspiring
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was deeply enriching and empowering. I could tell these were not just words written but a testament from persons who experienced God intimately. Keep writing for the Glory of God🙌
Inspiring and motivating. It is wonderful to read something so practical that truly gives a path to developing your personal relationship with God. I am so grateful for this book.
This book bought confirmation to my spirit, if I could highlight the whole book I would re- read this book again, I will…excellent reading… love it love it…
To agree with God and see His peace and truth proclaimed. When we begin to say what God says.... there is no question the results He will give us. To pray scripture rather than own ideas is truth and powerful. Enjoy this insight and may it give us all food for thought and a fresh passion for praying Gods Word.
