This first collection by Rebecca Lowndes represents fifty years of observation, expression, and emotion. Her progression is obvious from her earliest work, and she should be applauded for its inclusiveness. She is a patient observer with the ability to filter the superfluous, and retain what's important. Employing a variety of poetic styles, she is generous with her insights and passions especially when feeling the need to express herself. I find here, as with most books of poetry, I have to sip them, not devour them in one binge. They should be savored, not gulped. Let's hope we don't have to wait an additional 50 years before she graces us with more.
