Today, we live in an uber-connected era, where anyone is able to make thousands of friends and participate in their lives with the swipe of a finger. Why then, in such a connected time in history, do so many women feel disconnected, confined, misunderstood, defeated, or think that success is a solo project?

The benefits of a having a tribe are undeniable. Women who have strong social circles are living longer, happier, healthier lives in comparison to those who lack connections and are exhausting themselves trying to quench external desires in isolation.

In A Tribe Called Bliss Lori Harder bridges the gap between inspiration and action, providing a lasting resource for positive change and a guidebook for establishing a support tribe. With crucial and fascinating lessons and contextual self-work exercises, this is the ultimate guidebook to discover the key to a lifetime of blissful happiness.

I received this book for review from the publisher. I have not heard of this author before but the blurb sounded so interesting. I feel like people myself included are growing more isolated in these times of cell phones and online socialization, and I'd like more female friendships. So I dove in blind not knowing what to expect from this author.
It was a rough start for me. I was rolling my eyes, it seemed so cheesy and slow. I just wasn't feeling like it was working for me at all. At about 25% it started clicking with me. I started to connect with her examples and had some a-HA moments. At the end of the book I felt a positive vibe that may move me to reach out to more women. Will I do the exercises advised in the beginning with her invitations ? Probably not, it is not something I would do but I may attempt a different route to grow a tribe. I think it's a great start to break down the walls that many of us have built to separate/protect us from others, and develop female friendships.

I so badly wanted this book to be good. I love the idea of a book about female friendships and how to foster these wonderful, precious relationships, but this book did not hit the mark for me. It was poorly written, by a woman who obviously doesn't have any idea how to author a book. Her writing style is fragmented and full of hopefully-real-but-probably-fake anecdotes. Many of the people she quotes in this book about *female* friendships are men. I couldn't even finish the book, and was more than happy to return it early to my local library. I have yet to find any great books about maintaining strong female friendships. If you know of any, let me know!

I received this book as an advanced reader's copy and I must say with all that is going on in the world, there needs to be a book like this. Lori Harder focuses on the main idea that if you are aware of all that is not only going on in your surroundings but whats going on in the world...is the key to having a "blissfull" life and more happiness in yourself. From experience, building a team or a "tribe" and being a leader is the most rewarding experience there is and when you have a team of followers that are willing to follow you wherever you go, they could turn into the family you never had. A wonderful life-lesson read and definitely a lesson to learn from. 5 stars!

Good at getting things out in the open, but not very good in getting a steady "tribe". Quite a few religious aspects that I would prefer not to have, being as most of my tribe was religious, it singled me out every meeting because I am not.

I enjoyed this audiobook but occasionally I was turned off by the language. I thought it had some wonderful tips for developing real connections and strengthening your present relationships but I wasn't interested in the monthly structured "Tribe" meetings that she suggested.

My favorite part of this book was the "7 Codes of Conduct"
1. Always be your own guru.
2. Release expectations (from yourself and others)
3. NO gossip -- an excellent chapter, I listened to it twice!
4. Don't take it personal
5. Set fierce boundaries (beware of time thieves)
6. Be Authentic, Be YOU
7. Forgive yourself and everyone else

For these lessons alone I would recommend reading this book!

Well to be fair, I dont think I really took the time to research this one first. I was looking for something to help me find and build strong friendships at this stage of life. This is really more about building a Mastermind group for women that help you navigate through certain goals or dreams in your life. Which works great if that is what you are looking for. At this point I need more than once a week meetings for an hour to discuss goals. When I get to that point, I may revisit this one.

Suggestions, tips etc.. I found them to be largely contrived, ultimately negating possibilities for “authentic” tribal growth. A simplified version, sans inappropriate language and this would be a great book for adolescent girls or young women. Im between a 2.5-3.

Reminded me of everything I dislike in a self-help book. It is extremely rigid and meant as the curriculum for driving your own group work sessions (3-4 people meeting bi-weekly with assignments, etc.).

This book basically glossed over all the last 21 self-help books published, But it was still interesting and most of it was all ‘true facts’ that you need to hear 1000 times anyways. I see how it could be eye opening to some. The concept of going through all of these discussion points with a group would be really interesting. It was good to read right now and keeps me moving forward. I enjoy her podcasts which is why I bought the book.

It took me quite a while to work through this book and I trudged along a bit through the pages, though the content was really meaningful and valuable. While I don't plan to create the "tribe" modeled in the book, I have really been prompted to think about how to include more awesome women in my life. I did feel encouraged to be more vulnerable, to invite, to share, to encourage, and to celebrate others.

I believe that if I am consistently reading things that inspire, I can change my patterns of thought. This book filled my mind with some really powerful insights about the stories I can tell about myself and the people around me. I am grateful for the time I was given to reflect a bit.

I actually really enjoyed the messages that came through in this book, although it's not at all what I was expecting. I loved hearing Lori's stories as told in her own voice (in the audiobook), but it is really more of a self-help motivational book with a lot of wonderful topics mentioned about up-leveling your mindset, protecting your energy, cultivating a gratitude practice, using your thoughts to create the things you want, owning your power, and just being a more calm, sane, mindful human which I don't think we can ever hear too much. I was specifically looking to read more about building a tribe - which isn't really what this book is about except in small bits and pieces - but I still got a lot of value out of it either way!

Need friends?

An interesting self care read. Would recommend for women seeking deeper relationships. I think that some cultural nuances of female friendships are missing (age, race, class) but interesting read overall.

DNF @ 3%. This is not relatable and feels very “airy fairy.”

I love me some good facilitation and community-building... The author is bold and thoughtful about how to do these things which I really appreciate.

She has a faith in visualization that sometimes slips into the New Age form of prosperity gospel theology that ignores actual material conditions and implies a level of victim blaming that annoys me but take the fruit, spit out the seeds as she would say...

Book of the week - A Tribe Called Bliss By Lori Harder @loriharder

We all know that feeling, when you first decide to change your life... the moment you realize that most your current relationships and ways of being are not working for you anymore and if you want to be that person you know you could be, you are going to have to leave these relationships and habits behind.
For us on the spiritual path, no problem we cut all the negativity and people out... but then what?? This is the uncomfortable phase, the phase when you now feel even more lost than before, even lonely. We now have all these open spaces for new people and experiences? But how do we call in a new tribe? How do we build a tribe of likeminded kick ass women who want to better their lives and go for their goals? This is a step by step guide to building your very own bliss tribe.

This book had potential, if it didn't scream marketing as a book club for sales. The message wants to be a good one, but I'm struck by the inorganic methods of creating a "tribe." I don't like how scripted each meeting is supposed to be, and how the author has created homework for the tribe. Sure, each chapter in the homework section has a good message, but I can't get over how much this is a sales gimmick... okay, let me just drop over $100 on books to make my new friends work to be my friend. Highly disappointed because I had high expectations.

Had a slow start but I really liked this book. It made me feel like it is ok to fight for what I want in an accountability group and social circles. Great nuggets and good techniques pulling from several of my favorite authors.

I loveeee Lori Hardee’s podcasts, definitely recommend! I feel that I would have enjoyed this more if I didn’t listen to her podcasts since she talks about these topics all the time. Regardless, it’s a very light, pick me up read!

I much preferred this one over the much-talked-about book: Girl, Wash Your Face. I found this one much more applicable and relatable. I especially loved section 2.

Having gone to coaching sessions this kinda seemed like that but boxed up. And for me the main benefit of group coaching is the people...so what I'm saying is without a group of people this book is less than what I wanted it to be. This book is really only for those that have an idea of some people they'd like to make a group with. And I don't know many people in that position. But if you have some idea of who you want to be in your growth but you need guidance on bonding and getting very much cheaper coaching then def buy this.

"Into my late 20s these experiences defined me and I clung to them for reasons why? I can't....but eventually I put down my list which made some room for bliss to enter into my life but not creating pure pandemonium."

"Lasting pain comes from thinking we shouldn't have to experience any."

"I know it's not intentional but I never want to feel resentful for something that could be taken care of with a simple conversation."

"Changing can be frowned upon by those who love certain and hate getting uncomfortable."

"We start to feel naked without our worry and stress. We gave meaning to our addiction of worry and stress by thinking it's honorable. And if we don't worry do we actually care? Will we be in control without it?"

I would highly suggest this book for anyone wanting to dig deep and learn what may be holding them back in life and add in those good habits that help us all move forward. My four star rating was a caution for those ladies who may feel uncomfortable with cursing as the author attempts to “keep it real” by adding in her choice words for emphasis. For me, I could take the pearls of wisdom and overlook her personal choices, but I know some people would like to know that this book may not agree with their particular worldview. Can you accept wisdom and cast away extras? Then this is a GREAT book. Do you get hung up on others “unacceptable” choices and cannot look past differences of opinion? Then you may want to skip this one.

Overall great book and super helpful content. I do appreciate the authors openness and her vulnerability. We can all grow together when we are willing to let down our walls and remember that we are all dealing with the same underlying insecurities and anxieties.

P.S. I would highly recommend reading this via audio book. Makes sense when read with the author’s cadences.

This book wasn't what I expected, but I still enjoyed it. I was hoping for information on how to develop deeper relationships with friends, but seemed to be more about networking within your professional field. The tribe letter that Harder suggests sending out to start your tribe struck me as sounding way too much like recruitment for a pyramid scheme and I don't know many people who wouldn't be put off by the wording. I'm not religious, so I didn't really connect with that aspect of the process. With that being said, I really liked Harder's writing style, and still got a lot out of the book - specifically about forgiveness, worrying less about what other people think, and just being more vulnerable in general. If you're looking for some motivation to start achieving some loftier goals, this book has a lot to offer.

I found my “Tribe!” You can’t really review this book unless you have chosen to follow it in the way it is intended to be read. I chose a group of wonderful ladies to become a “tribe” and we read this book chapter by chapter. We met once every two weeks after reading each chapter and discussed the Soul Assignment. It brought us together, and we each grew individually and as a tribe. It was a fabulous experience.

While I wouldn’t necessarily say the writing was top notch, I will say the messages and take aways from each chapter were meaningful and discussion worthy.

If you have a group of women you think are high quality and would like to form real friendships with, this book is for you and your “tribe”.

i truly don't think the exercises for group read would work as I feel its too strict and formalized for something as organic as the concepts she talks in the book...or maybe i just don't have a good idea of a 'tribe'...

i really did enjoy her tips, as someone who has worked hard in the last few years to grow and evolve, I actually have done a lot of the things she talks about...specially about stories, forgiving yourself, authenticity, gratitude,etc... i felt that she made it relatable and even infused some religious/spiritualism without being overly christian/religious...

i also enjoyed that she quotes and references all the things she has used in her journey...which is more than other gurus (*cough cough* rachel hollis brand of empowerment!)

There truly are not enough stars to accurately rate this book. It’s a must read for any woman no matter your age, goals, lifestyle, and how good or bad you think your friendships are. Lori Harder tackles tough subjects that are blocking us from living to our highest potential in the most loving and reassuring way with stories of her own missteps and experiences and a wealth of amazing tools to work on these things. Although I went through this book solo and have not yet embarked on the tribe experience, I learned SO much about myself, my friendships, and my life. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing this book is!
