For fans of Fred Rogers in Won’t You Be My Neighbor ? and Be Kind , a little bunny, who dreams of being a superhero, proves to her know-it-all older sister that kindness really is a superpower in this “infectiously joyful” picture book (Booklist).
Some superheroes can leap tall buildings in a single bound, some can crawl up a wall, some grow wolf-sharp claws, and some have superhuman speed. And Superbuns? Her superpower is being kind. Super kind . She can’t help but be watering a neighbor’s daisies; helping a friend cross the street; feeding a hungry goldfish.
Superbuns’s older sister Blossom is a super know-it-all who doesn’t believe kindness is a superpower. Not one bit. And all this kindness is slowing them down on their way to Grammy’s house, where a yummy carrot cobbler awaits. But the sisters are being followed by a little fox, and when Blossom learns the fox is not after their cobbler but is lost, she discovers kindness really is a superpower after all.
My formative years were spent dressing my dog in old baby clothes, reading MAD magazine, and dreaming of the day I could head to the “big city.” After a stint in advertising, I escaped my small town Maryland home to pursue big adventures in Los Angeles.
My career blossomed from intern on Hanna Barbera’s The Pagemaster, to character designer on MGM’s The Pink Panther and Klasky Csupo’s Duckman. I spent five years as a storyboard artist and designer at Warner Bros. on Freakazoid, Animaniacs, Superman, and won two Emmy Awards for my work on Pinky and the Brain. I went on to do storyboards for Nickelodeon’s Hey Arnold!, Oswald, and Clifford the Big Red Dog.
After a six month long trip around the world, I landed in NYC. With a new outlook (and some great travel stories, including one about a yak cheese sandwich in Nepal that brought me to my knees), I continued my career on the other side of the country. I was the Story Director on Disney’s Stanley, and Noggin’s Pinky Dinky Doo, as well as Creative Director on PBS’s Nate the Great and their hit series, WordWorld. I also created my first animated cartoon, Call Me Bessie! which I co-produced with Nickelodeon and which aired on Nicktoons Network.
I live in Brooklyn, the best place in the world. My favorite pastimes include traveling to exotic places, eating cheese, collecting inspiring quotes, and laughing. I know that anything is possible and I try to live life that way!
A helpful young rabbit who always went out of her way for others, Buns, AKA Superbuns, knew that kindness was a super-power, whatever her know-it-all older sister Blossom might have to say about it. As the leporine sisters head to their grandmother's house with some carrot cobbler, Blossom lectures while Superbuns helps those she passes. Then a little fox is revealed to have been following them, and Blossom panics. Will her know-it-all-ness lead to good things, when it turns out that the fox is lost? And will the fox cause Blossom to have a change of heart about kindness...?
A sweet story is paired with cute cartoon-style artwork in Superbuns!, the first picture-book I have read from author/artist Diane Kredensor, the creator of the Ollie & Moon picture-book and television series. Although the artwork isn't really my cup of tea - just a little too cartoonish for my taste - it is very expressive, and captures the emotional ups and downs of the story. The tale itself emphasizes both the importance of kindness, and the possibilities of changing one's mind (as Blossom does), when experience shows us that our outlooks isn't the right one. Recommended to anyone looking for children's stories about kindness and/or featuring sisters.
Buns is a superhero. What is her superpower? Kindness, she says. Nonsense, her sister tells her. But maybe Buns can show Blossom that her sister can be wrong.
A celebration of kindness and the power of kindness in the world.
SUPERBUNS! is an absolutely adorable and delightful celebration of kindness. Superbuns has a superpower- being kind! However, her sister Blossom knows everything about everything, and while kind is kind, Blossom knows that it is not a superpower. On their way to their grandmother's house, they realize they are being followed by a Fox. Blossom is scared at first, but then learns that the Fox is lost- and that maybe she doesn't know everything about everything, because kindness can be super!
In a beautifully scripted story with some comic book-style images, Superbuns and Blossom will capture young readers' hearts and imagination. Highly recommended for lovers of animals, superheros, and fun stories.
What I loved: The illustrations here are fantastic! With a bit of comic-style flair and adorable animals, the images are sure to delight young readers. Adding on the clever and charming story of two sisters, being kind, and not judging others too quickly, this is a book that can be easily enjoyed for parents and children alike. The illustrations of Superbuns also give some great examples of everyday kindness, which is great for kids, while also teaching about rushed judgments (in terms of the Fox) and being yourself no matter what others- like Blossom- might say. Superbuns is unapologetically herself and cannot stop herself from being kind- even to her sister. So many great examples and messages for toddlers and elementary schoolers!
Final verdict: This entertaining story is sure to delight young readers and their parents with the colorful and fun design, strong and important messages, and relatable plot (I may have been that know-it-all big sister). Be prepared to fall in love with this super bunny and her kind heart!
This adorable book follows the adventures of young Superbuns and her sister, Blossom. Superbuns calls herself that because she reaches out to help with her superpower : kindness. Unfortunately, Superbuns' sister, Blossom, a bit of a know-it-all, chatterbox, informs Superbuns that kindness isn't a superpower like flying, super strength, or speed. But her sister's doubts don't stop Superbuns from helping those around her as she and her sister take a carrot cobbler to Grammy. The appearance of a fox sends Blossom into a panic. Can Superbuns step in and save the day with her superpower? I enjoyed reading this story about a superpower that often gets overlooked. Superbuns spends her time helping in relatively small ways, with an umbrella, taking out the garbage, watering plants, etc. But she leaves those around her with a smile on their face. I also appreciated the fact that she doesn't let her sister's doubt stop her from doing her good deeds, including acts of kindness to her sister. I especially enjoyed the adorable illustrations that highlight Superbuns good deeds in the background as her sister prattles on. A fun way to share the idea that kindness is the truest of superpowers.
3.5/5 This is a cute children’s picture book about a young rabbit who believes her superpower lies in being kind to all of those around her. I liked the style of the graphics.
Buns knows that she is a superhero, but her sister, Blossom, is convinced that she isn’t. Blossom is quite confident that she knows everything about everything; she also knows that superheroes have powers, and kindness is not a superpower. However, everything changes when she gets the chance to help a little lost girl, proving that maybe she doesn’t quite know everything. Filled with hilarious fun facts, and the perfect expression of sisterhood, Superbuns takes readers on a heroic adventure of kindness and love. This cute book shows young readers that it's awesome to be kind to people. Superbuns loves helping folks out, but her sister, Blossom isn't so sure. She's a know-it-all and loves to remind Superbuns that kindness is not a superpower. But when they encounter a little fox that had lost her way home, the sisters learned that being brave enough to see past the assumptions that people make about others pays off in the long run. This would be a good book to share with kids to start a discussion about how we help our neighbors.
What a fun book! Superbuns has the superpower of kindness but her big sister doesn't agree. We see Superbuns demonstrate the power of kindness and how it can help others. The book has a good message while also dealing with some heavier issues. An entertaining read while also providing super cute illustrations. So sweet!
My kids are crazy about this book! They love the characters and the fun details in the story. Everyone had a different opinion on what the character voices should sound like. No matter how many times we read it, everyone is on the edge of their seats near the end during the most exciting part! I never would have caught the charm in this story without the help of all of the little eyes and ears in the room.

Being kind is not a superpower, or so thinks SuperBuns' sister, Blossom. But when Blossom is given a big hug and thanked for helping someone find their way home, she starts to see kindness as a superpower.
Bold illustrations, cute bunnies, a realistic sister relationship that doesn't involve them getting in a fight, simple text and a simple plot--all together make this an excellent read-aloud for an older aged crowd.
Another of this year’s Sunshine State Young Readers Award Jr choices. And it’s another hit with the kids. It will be a challenge to pick a favorite (a good problem to have). The illustrations are hilarious. The lesson, great—we can all truly be super heroes with simple acts of kindness. Although, I’m not so sure reaching into someone’s kitchen window to flip their pancakes for them quite qualifies as a kindness. Ha!
I loved this book about kindness. Super bunny has kindness as his superpower and even with his sister always in a hurry and someone who knows everything they make a fun discovery and even Blossom finds a way to be kind. I see a parallel or updated version of Little Red Riding hood here while taking the hot carrot cobbler to their grandmother. Very fun twist on the old story.
This was lovely. I loved the illustrations and I loved the story. It was funny, simple, and sweet. I loved Blossom and how she knew "everything" and I loved how Superbuns was just kind to everyone, but was also really observant yet not overly pushy at being helpful. I would absolutely recommend this book to kids.
A helpful bunny who wanted to be a superhero used her powers of kindness to help others. Her know- it- all big sister Blossom was always spouting facts, and tried to convince Superbuns that kindness was not a superpower. That is until she was proven wrong by her own actions of using facts.
Texas 2x2. Even though my son called the characters "derpy" (I have no idea?) we both enjoyed this book very much: this is a moral story but also a fun one. I used it successfully in story time with 1st graders who are already naturally enthralled by things cute and superheroes.
On a quest for books about kindness, and this one more than met what I was looking for! I love its simplicity, humor, and overall message. Great book to share with kids (and adults, really) of all ages!
