After nearly twenty years wrestling around the world, AJ Styles has finally made it to the mountaintop of sports entertainment, WWE, and is focused on capturing the most prestigious title in the business, the WWE Championship.
Before he became The Face That Runs The Place, AJ Styles spent nearly twenty years traveling the world, making sacrifices, all with one proving himself as the best in-ring performer, bar none. Now, for the first time ever, see how the Phenomenal One’s quest led him to WWE, and how he took the biggest stage in sports entertainment and made it his own. Dennis Hopeless (Cloak & Dagger, All-New X-Men) and illustrator Serg Acuña team up for this tale of overcoming challenges and striving to be the best.

I love this volume. Yes, I am a huge AJ Styles fan. I might be a bit biased. Great story and artwork. In the comic universe, WWE is real, and so are the characters. An excellent mix of life in and out of the ring. Just enough reality mixed with a story.
The first chapter is AJ Styles, the talented young wrestler, coming into wrestling and making a name for himself. Almost hitting the big time to have the rug pulled out, then going back to work and coming into the WWE on his own terms. The reality behind this story is that AJ was super talented but did not fit into the slower WWE/WWF style. However, his years on the indies and TNA his promo, and ring psychology improved to the same level as his in ring work. I was over the moon when he came into the WWE as AJ Styles and not a WWE invented character.
Chapter 2 is based on his feud with John Cena. Great stuff.
Chapter 3 is AJ winning the Smackdown championship and facing the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar. A lesson on dealing with bullies and earning respect.
Chapter 4 is his feud and twisted "friendship" with Shinsuke, the King of Strong Style.
Chapter 5 is his feud with Samoa Joe. This is personal!! For someone who has been watching these to go at it since their days at ROH, this is the perfect main event for the comic to finish on.
One of the things that made this volume even better for me is a lot more of the in ring fights/wrestling and signature moves are shown. I have never seen a bad AJ Styles match. This translates perfectly into the WWE comic universe as well.
This volume focused on AJ Styles and his various feuds with Brock Lesnar, Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe among others. Pretty much what you'd expect if you'd read previous volumes as it is a supposed "backstage" look at different events that occurred in WWE, right down to dates and actual events. The art is mostly pretty good, and pro wrestling I'm sure can be hard to illustrate. Overall this BOOM! series has been decent and a different but entertaining take on pro wrestling in comics.
