This is a review for Go Go Power Rangers Volumes 4 and 5, since they're basically one long story split into two, the same way as volumes 1 and 2 of the series were. I'm also assuming Volume 5 includes the Forever Rangers one-shot that ties up the story.

The focus on the early days of the Power Rangers continues here, as the team continue to feel out exactly what roles they play, as well as their relationships with each other, which blossom in some surprising ways.

Meanwhile, writer Ryan Parrott gives both the Green Power Coin and Rita Repulsa a hell of a lot more of a background, that sheds some light on why Rita is the way she is, and how she ends up further on in the series as well. It also manages to thread in and out of some continuity that the main Mighty Morphin' book set up, which was a nice surprise.

There's also a new wrinkle in the form of Alpha-1, the predecessor to Alpha-5 (no duh) who isn't exactly everything he says he is, and puts Zordon's methodology under a microscope in a surprising way.

On the art front, Dan Mora departs the series in favour of Eleonora Carlini, who I think has finally found her place in the comics world - she's bounced around at DC for a while but I never really felt like she suited the books she was assigned, but her work her is excellent. It's not as good as Mora's, but it's definitely damn close, and Raul Angulo's colours are gorgeous. The Zord battles have never looked so good.

As a bridging story between Shattered Grid and Necessary Evil, as well as an examination of the early days of both the Rangers and their villains, Go Go is doing a fantastic job, and these next two volumes are living proof.

Go Go Power Rangers is like my go-to when I want to read something light, fun, yet with a lot of heart.

With Rita evil ass on a mission to find a special mission we have poor Trini and Jason transported to a new world. A world in which they change not only their suits (So Jason is yellow ranger, Trini is Red Ranger) but can read each others mind. Jason finds out Trini is in love with him, while she finds out something is happening with Jason's father.

On the flipside Zack and Billy trying to find a way to save them while Kim goes on a date with the last person you'd expect. However, when all rangers have to work together the story really shines and the ending to this is a great build up on what is to come. Oh and the art, perfection. Everyone looks great and the fights are fun to view. Again, nothing MINDBLOWING but damn fun and Ryan Parrott really got the voice for every character down so well.

A 4 out of 5.

This volume started with an unexpected change in art. I know it was just a simple take over by artist Eleanor Carlini, but it felt symbolic of the change of tone and character progression that came in this vol.

And the character progression was rife in this. There was Skull surprisingly being proven to be a gentleman and, of course, as all the readers by this point had been waiting for, Jason and Trini's relationship coming to a head. The mysterious planet and murderous aliens were the perfect backdrop to the beginning of their relationship and I relished those short-lived moments.

In terms of the fight, this was the closest the Rangers ever came to defeating Rita, if only they had let Rita's other enemy finish the job. But I suppose that would've gone against their ethics and what they've always stood for. In the end it seemed Rita's victory was inevitable, if only so we could see the plot inch forwards to the Green Ranger storyline we've always known was coming...

I wish I could say this book was an easy 4 stars for me, only because it doesn’t make sense to my why this series is so freakin’ good! I couldn’t think of a reason to not give this one a full 5 stars. The return of Ryan Parrott brought amazing character development, a slew of fascinating A, B, C, and D plots, some stellar action sequences, and actually had me not wanting to put this series down. Currently reading through this series with a friend. I hope he enjoyed it as much as I did and I’m very excited to hear what he thought of this volume!

This has been my favorite volume so far. When I saw the change in the artist I was worried but I was immediately pleased. It looks great. We get a lot of Rita in this issue and the Rangers swap roles and powers. Kim gets a great moment with someone you wouldn't expect and Trini finally gets her moment. This series just keeps getting better.

So much yes! There’s a ton of character development across the team. We get some insight into Trini and Jason’s friendship, and Kim undergoes an unexpected learning moment with Skull. Trini, Jason, and Kim each undergo moments of vulnerability that allow for deeper characterizations while Rita plots to get the green power coin. Both power rangers lines are doing an incredible job of revamping the entire series and instilling a ton of character development that makes the series richer.

This ongoing Power Rangers series continues to put the focus on the teenagers with attitude's more interpersonal and family lives. Trini and Jason are really highlighted in this volume. There's some pretty awesome panels involving their colors.

Classic parts from the original tv series are shown in new light. Billy's bug makes an appearance. Zak's Hip-hop Kido! Even Pudgy Pig's defeat is the intro to this volume. Two characters that were mostly comic relief in the show get actual moments in this volume: Skull and Baboo. I really liked seeing Baboo whispering to Finster behind Rita's back.

This was another awesome volume. Great character growth. Epic battles. Emotional arcs. Characters that were flat in the show are given depth. Amazing visuals. Fun. I'm super excited to see what's next! I give this volume a 5/5.

'Go Go' grows the beard with this story arc.

Now that it doesn't have to set up character dynamics or tie-in with the Mighty Morphin comics, 'Go Go' is breaking free from having to be JUST a prequel title. Thanks to time travel shenanigans from the crossover event, 'Go Go' can still follow canon events from the original TV show, BUT it can have its own way of getting to that point.

The Rangers will still have to deal with the 'Green With Evil' storyline, but this volume of 'Go Go' was just an engaging, character-driven way of getting there. The original show was...well, the cheesy 90's show we all loved. This TPB gives us a light romance arc, a team-is-separated character study, a tiny little sidequest highlighting Rita and her minions, PLUS development for Skull, of all people. And yet, both iterations of these characters will encounter the Green Ranger.

It's a neat approach to time travel, and writing as a whole.

The drama, the drama! You know I eat this up.
Once again, Go Go! continues to be my favorite adaptation of the Power Rangers. Not only does it have interesting action, but it has so much heart. The characters act like real people and make understandable decisions. This series is just so silly and fun and I can’t get enough.
This volume was no exception to Go Go!’s excellent storytelling. Jason and Trini focused volume, let’s gooooo! I love how Trini and Jason got to see each other from all angles in this one. Like they got to see each other as leaders and teammates and insecure kids and (hehehehe) potential lovers. They saw each other in 3D and I am so here for it.
I’m also obsessed with how Bulk and Skull are portrayed. When I first got into Power Rangers, I figured these dudes would just be your stereotypical bully characters. But you know what?! Ryan Parrott said no to stereotyping (God bless). My word, Bulk and Skull are two of the most nuanced and well rounded characters in this series! They’re both incredibly written, and instead of being flat, soulless side characters, they’re such gentlemen and genuinely good people that I wonder why I ever saw them as petty bullies. They still poke fun at the other characters but they’ve got backstory and emotional tension to explain their actions. Ryan Parrott please teach me your ways.
All in all, this was a solid volume and left me wanting more Power Rangers. That’s a win.
7/10 “I’m fighting aliens on another planet! I’m fighting aliens on another planet… with an axe! This is the greatest day of my life!” “… are we certain that’s Billy?”
The power swap was so perfect, oh my word. And it’s an interesting concept that maybe the different power coins are drawn to/ influence their holders because of their personality traits. Super wild vibes but I had the time of my life

Reading any of the Go Go PR graphic novels/comics makes me so nostalgic! Obviously, this series is a lot more personal and the stakes feel much greater than the TV show, but I love getting to see a modern take on characters I grew up with. I was kind of wondering when/if this series would get to the point of the Green Ranger. I’m excited to see how that turns out.

Again, read this quite a while ago. I still found the story pretty fun, though the arc with Rita in another dimension/planet with her subjects... I don't know, it's just hard to take her very seriously, so when she is depicted as this truly evil and powerful threat ruling over other civilizations, it's hard to buy into it. Still, entertaining.

This volume directly follows the Shattered Grid event and finds Trini and Jason stuck on another planet with their powers swapped. They must find Rita to discover what the villain is up to before it is too late. More awesomeness from Ryan Parrott and Boom Comics!

This series continues to be so much better than it probably has any right to be. Gonna miss Dan Mora on the art, but Eleonora Carlini's work is great. The story and relationship dynamics are so engaging, I had a hard time putting this down.

Update: Keeping rating on second read.

With the discovery of it seems we are nearing the end of Go Go (in fact, they recently announced the final issue) but I am still enjoying this series.

This volume mostly focuses on Trini and Jason being stuck on a remote alien planet with Rita, and their Red and Yellow coins have flipped resulting in Trini being the Red Ranger and Jason the Yellow.

Overall, a fun volume with a nice payoff near the end starting to bridge the series timelines.

Read as individual issues.

A pretty good arc, with good examination of the team dynamics and some new and exciting backstory for the Green Ranger/Dragon Power Coin. Parrott’s writing was, as ever, outstanding, and the art continues to be fantastic. Just wish the story had run a bit longer, as the final issue felt rushed.

I love that we are continuing to get more backstory of the Rangers (their childhoods and home lives). Also I love Jason and Trini's plot on Breel!!! They look so good with swapped colours.
