This graphic novel is part of the Geronimo Stilton series which features a mouse and his many different journeys, problems, and successes. He often fights crime and saves the day. This book in particular—Geronimo Stilton Saves the Olympics—is the story of Geronimo's fight against the Pirate Cats, a group of cats that causes trouble throughout the series. The "Professor," Geronimo's mentor, calls him and his friends in to tell them that the Pirate Cats have traveled back in time to the day of the very first Olympic trials in Athens in 1896. The cats are trying to steal the Olympic medals for themselves and Geronimo and his friends must travel back in time to stop them.
This graphic novel is definitely more juvenile than some others. It is meant for younger children and can serve as a support for those children who struggle with longer novels without pictures. It encourages reading, nonetheless, but it makes it slightly more entertaining for the reader. The uses many formats for his panels and maintains a consistent artistic style throughout the book. There are many different text bubbles that help complement and enhance the story. I think this would be considered a "super hero" type of graphic novel even though it doesn't feature the traditional superhero. I can remember reading these books in grade school and really liking them. One thing i have to criticize would be the story line. I thought that there were a few points where somethings needed more explaining, such as the first mention of the Pirate Cats. This very well may be because I haven't read the rest of the series, but I was definitely confused at some points.
