Michelle didn’t think she had a spontaneous bone in her body until she woke up married in Vegas.
For the past eighteen years, Michelle has played by the rules, worked hard, and taken care of everyone rather than herself. But now that her twin daughters have gone to college, she is starting to take care of herself and make new friends, including Major League Baseball pitcher Rex Lewis.
Rex is known as The Ice King on and off the field, but contrary to his chilly reputation, he seems to like her.
Then a business trip to Las Vegas brings them together in surprising ways – and her life will never be the same.
Wake-up Call is book four in the Love and Chocolate Series. Each book is a standalone romance without cliffhangers
Book One: Corporate Husband Book Two: Marry the Doctor Book Three: Something Sweet Book Four: Wake-up Call
Happily-ever-after is my drug of choice. Not that I won’t read or watch a sad story (now and then), but I crave happy endings. I love Jane Austen, Cinderella stories, and 1930s screwball comedies. (Think An AFFAIR TO REMEMBER or WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING). Since real life has a way of being tough enough, I write sweet, quirky contemporary romances to take the edge off.
What you will find in my stories:
1. Sweet quirky romance.
2. Very little swearing. There may be an occasional hell or damn, maybe even a b*tch, but there will be no Lord’s name in vain and no f-bombs.
3. No explicit sex scenes. Characters might discuss sex, but any love scenes are off screen (Think AFRICAN QUEEN).
The premise of the book was good. Single mother of teenage girls wakes up married in Vegas. Unfortunately the execution was severely lacking. First of all we never got a physical description of Michelle or her daughters which makes it very difficult for me to visualize them. As for the hero it was a bit better but again it took too long (almost the end of the book) to get a good handle on him. The story was also very flat, nothing happened. The last attempt at drama with him being photographed entering his ex wife house was poorly developed. The author should have really committed to it with paparazzi, details of the media circus, people at her job/home something to really convey an awful experience. As it was it felt like it was just a bad day at work end of story. I couldn’t really feel the chemistry and commitment between the protagonists either. They got married, he spent some time in her house but apart from that nothing changed. Blah. The lack of interaction with secondary characters, family etc made the book superficial. Lastly in this internet age (Michelle is only 35) to try and make us believe that she wouldn’t at least google a famous baseball player is ludicrous. She would know exactly how much money he makes (without being a gold digger) and it’s unbelievable to think that a billionaire would marry someone he barely knows without a prenup.
I have loved Michelle throughout this series. She’s a Hardworking single mom of twins who is fiercely independent. Along comes gorgeous and rich Rex. After falling into an easy friendship they wake up married! Not-so-impulsive Michelle struggles with her newfound happiness The couple faces some crazy and some predictable obstacles but always comes out stronger. I simply loved the lines of communication and growing relationships in this book. It’s well written and a fun easy read! I found myself wondering how I got so quickly to the end and then realized that time really does fly when you are enjoying yourself.
The first half was great and was planning to rate it 4 stars but got disappointed in chapter 9 when Michelle was talking with Sara on the phone. Sara was sooo rude and a selfish spoiled brat who thinks that her mother owes her. She wants to be only who is happy and doesn't want her mom to be happy.
For me, Michelle was a weak mom; she kept on apologizing to her daughter when she deserved respect. If I was her, I would tell my daughter not to call or txt me and not to come home until she apologized.
And what happened to Brianna and gossip that she made? Honestly, I don't like it when a thing or more were left hanging
I've read most of the books by this author and loved them. I also love a good wake up married story. I liked that the main characters made wise decisions and didn't play games (except for baseball of course). Unfortunately, this was not on par with her other books. The prologue was good but it slogged from there. If this is your first time reading a book by this author, please treat yourself by picking up another of her books. They are much better.
What a great addition to the series! I appreciated that Michelle didn't get drunk or drugged past the point of consent but that she and Rex both wanted to be married. They made a wonderful couple. And I'm really happy to read the author's note about continuing the series or at least the characters as I have really enjoyed her "world building".
Another wonderful story by this author. She has such a way of writing a story that makes it no longer feel like a story but a glimpse into the people's lives and to witness their very own happily ever after. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
