"Interlude" is the sixth book in the series, The Illusion.
Jordan Weston is good-looking, mysterious, and sexually uninhibited, but his life is more like the name of his bar -- Just an Illusion. His cousins are the bad boys of Bastards and Dangerous, but their fame hasn’t made everything rainbows and sunshine for him. He’s haunted, flawed, and the sole survivor of a homicide that wiped out his immediate family.
Allie Baker, the most recent hire at the bar, can see through Jordan’s façade. She knows he’s everything she doesn’t need, but she’s beginning to crave his cocky attitude and the way he looks at her. The more she tries to stay away from him, the more she wants to get to know him.
Jordan knows falling for an employee is a bad idea, but Allie pushes buttons he never realized he had. Even though Allie desperately needs her job, she soon decides being with Jordan is more important. Will they be able to compromise, or will she let her chance at love pass her by for the sake of a paycheck?
Another addictive read from D. Kelly with a gutsy heroine learning to take back control of her life, and a seriously hot hero who has overcome horrific tragedy to find the forever love he deserves. I couldn't read this one fast enough!
I love this series and I loved this new addition and I want more!
Jordan and Allie together were great and it was good to see what was going on in Jordan's mind through the other events in the illusion series. As a reader we get to see the impact for another's point of view and it was still heartbreaking even though you knew it was coming.
So glad Jordan got his HEA, he deserves it after all he had been through. Loved the epilogue and can not wait for Darren's story, who will it be? Was it the character hinted at at the end of this book? Time will tell.
Okay I must be living under a stone because this is the first book in the illusions series that I have read and HOLY HADES it blew me away! I need to go back to book one and read them all in a binge reading night because I loved D. Kelly's writing. I was so drawn into this story that I felt like I was their right with the characters living their lives and feeling their feelings. It was phenomenal and amazing wrapped up into one.
This is Jackson and Katie's story and boy oh boy what a story it is. Jackson is closed of and cocky and arrogant but underneath all that is a guy who is hurt by his life circumstances and what he has had to endure. When he hires a new bar tender Katie she sees through all the hurt and pain he holds in because she has suffered herself. She knows he is off limits but she can't help having feelings for him and the chemistry between them is off the chain and they can't keep their hands off one another.
This is an amazing story of love and triumph over tragedy. This is a must read series and everyone should go out and one click book one and binge read the series in one day!
Jordan had grown up feeling that the famous rock band BAD band members Sawyer and Noah were his brothers and not just cousins since his own family was maliciously taken from him at age seven by his own biological father. The Weston’s were every bit of his family as any biological family could be. They knew the scars that Jordan harbored from that fateful night. Since Sawyer was the first to walk into that scene afterwards it was a night that affected Sawyer and Jordan beyond belief.
Jordan owns a famous bar and has done a great job with it plus it doesn’t hurt that this is where BAD started out and still plays at occasionally. He still struggles immensely with his past and it definitely has made him into the man he is today. He has come out as bi and Tyler is his friend and off again on again bed partner that he has had for years. It’s when Allie comes into the picture that things shift in Jordan’s life. She is a woman on the run from a fiancé that cheated and a father that thinks he can control everything about her.
There is so much that Jordan teaches Allie about herself and feelings blossom. Allie’s friend as well as Jordan’s friend Sasha is a bright spot in this story. The things that come out of her mouth are sometimes hilarious. Another highlight for me is bringing in the characters from the previous books. I’m so glad that we finally got Jordan’s story and I’m always excited for the next book in Just an Illusion series to come out. Every book has been awesome because you are always taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
I’ve made no secret that this series has been one of the most emotional rides I’ve ever been on. Characters with depth and heart that had me crying and laughing along with them as life’s joys and tragedies struck with relentless force. Love and family were the key and it was all here in stories I got lost in again and again…
Jordan and Allie’s story was an intriguing one with a different flavor and drumbeat of its own. Past loves that refused to let go meant the undeniable attraction they felt for each other was tempered by mixed emotions and uncertainty. Each had struggles that affected their choices and helped and hindered their ability to move forward. Jordan was an open, honest man who believed in family and truth, above all else. Even if letting people into his heart was almost impossible…
Allie was starting over. Focused and with a plan, love was not on her schedule but Jordan was unexpectedly irresistible. She was navigating a new path and Jordan made it complicated and oh so much better. Sasha, bestie to them both, was the sarcastic and sassy filling that provided welcome lightness and even more depth to their emotional interlude…
While the series storyline was making itself felt in the background, Jordan and Allie took this story in their own direction. Soul-searching balanced with biting sarcastic wit and steamy desire made for another satisfying read.
I’ve had this author on my “Want to read” list for awhile, and for one reason or another I hadn’t taken the plunge, so when this baby popped up I decided to give it a go and I’m happy that I did. It was all kinds of sweet, smexy, heartbreaking and swoon worthyness with a good dose of frustration that had my eyes rolling but kept me turning the pages to see just how everything would work out for Jordan and Allie in the end.
I loved Allie. I did. Watching as she finally pulled on those shitkickers and took control of her life was a lot of fun to experience. She is intelligent, sweet and snarky in equal measure, but most of all has a kind of genuine sincerity in all she says and does that shows you how golden her heart is. Jordan is lethal in every way. Smexy, sweet, compassionate and blunt but without the edge and also being that strange mix of emotionally unavailable while still being available depending on where you fit into his life.
Jordan and Allie’s journey to their HEA was a fun one for me to experience. There was a bit of push/pull going on and there were moments where I wanted to reach out and Gibbs smack some sense into one of them, but the open communication they had going on aka acting like adults, made it all work for me. Their bantering was fun, the smexy HAWT and I loved how they got to know each other on every level. The angst between them was low, which I liked because there are some emotionally heavy things that happen in this one, and I loved how they got their HEA.
As I said, this is my first read by the author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The writing was engaging, pacing was well done and I really enjoyed the dual 1st person POV. This one does run concurrent with the first four books in the series, so I did get a taste of what had gone on in those books as well as a hint as to the conclusion of that particular storyline and while my interest is peaked, I’m also wary based on what I saw going on, so those books are still definitely on the TBR, but I’m not going to jump on them right now, but this isn’t to say that I’m going to be pushing this author to the side. She did that thing that I love and adore, she gave me a whole slew of characters to love and want more of. Sasha is hands down my favorite. This woman is kind of everything and I am crossing my toes that she gets an HEA one day. A close second is Fat Bastard ~ hard not to love the grumpy bastard *BSEG* But I want more of Mac, Tyler, Darren and Eli so I’ll be keeping an eye out for those babies!

"When I love someone and fall madly, deeply, over-the-top in love with THE ONE, I think I'll know. When I do, those words will leave my lips for ONLY them. I don't plan to fall in love more than once, so those words have to be reserved for that special person."
OH MY GAWD....Interlude was addictive and heart-wrenching, all-consuming and seductive with all the feels and emotions that I have come to LOVE when reading any book in the Illusion series! I've been intrigued with Jordan from the beginning and knew his story would be one that would without adoubt be a tear-jerker, an emotional roller-coaster but worth every moment of heartache and tears. Jordan and Allie were the perfect fit to each others messy puzzle called life yet together were nothing short of perfection. Thank you Dee for such a beautiful story about finding one's self and the one person that makes them whole!
"You're real, our love is real. I promise you will never spend a day wondering if you are loved. I'll prove it to you with every breath I take. "
Holy crap Batman this grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. Allie is one awesome take charge character who is breaking free of her life. It’s not what she wants and packs up and moves across country to her best friend Sasha who is someone you can’t help but enjoy. Then you have Jordan. Hold geez this man has issues and they are not his fault but created by his past. He may be bi but Allie gets his attention and won’t let go. If these three were not enough to hold your attention what about an on and off boyfriend I’d 10 years? How about a cheating fiancé and controlling dad? Okay that’s not enough how about siblings who are in a famous band? No? That’s not enough to grab you? Murder, an accident, loss, love, and a fat cat who hates everyone except kids?
Did that get you? This book has it and won’t let you out until you finish and then you sit there like it’s over? Staring around like oh my god all that happened? I loved this one and want more.
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5 Stars) Title: Interlude Author(s): D. Kelly Character(s): ― Allie Baker: 26 years old, Blue Eyed ― Jordan Weston: 28 years old, Black, Gray Eyed Setting: N/A Tag(s): Romance, Contemporary Content Rating: R POV: Alternates between Heroine/Hero Smexy Level: Hot Favorite Quote(s): ― “Whoever you want to be, Allie. That’s the beauty of it all. Be someone you never thought you could be. Write a book like Noah’s girlfriend did. Or become a lawyer like you wanted to when we were kids. Hell, be a sexually adventurous twenty-six-year-old woman and fuck all the men you’ve been missing out on the last six years. Whatever you decide, be authentic to you for a change. If that means fucking Jordan, go for it. Nothing should hold you back.” ― “There are plenty of dicks in the sea, and I’ve yet to take one for a drive that couldn’t be replaced with a new, sexier, longer-lasting model.” ― “Don’t plan to fall in love more than once, so those words have to be reserved for that special person.” ― “Your orgasm cup probably runs so far over that I could slip and fall just standing next to you.” ― “Because my brother deserves someone who makes him feel wanted. Someone who will run after him when he decides he’s not worthy of love. He needs someone who, instead of giving him space when he withdraws, will remind him it’s better for him to be here with them, in the moment. Tyler’s not that person. He appears for a few months and then disappears for a few months. Nothing has changed between them in ten years.” Overall Opinion: Jordan is a haunted, flawed, and the sole survivor of a homicide, at the age seven years old, that wiped out his immediate family. The day his birth father killed his family before taking his own life changed his life forever. Allie on the other hand has been surrounded by men that were always in control. After discovering her fiance cheating ways, she packs her bags and moves in with her best friend's Sasha for a fresh start. She lands a job at Jordan's bar, sparks fly and a romance ensues. Would their love be enough to heal their damaged hearts?
For the first time in long time, I've finally came across some refreshing characters. Jordan is a open bisexual lead and Allie was very accepting and understanding in regards to that. The attraction and connection between was immediate. The interest was there from the get-go even though it gradually took a few months for an physical relationship to developed, it was instant love. A big no-no for me.
I found it odd how quick Jordan was able opened up to Allie about his life, like he had to Tyler, despite knowing her for a short period of time. It just didn't fit with what I had Invision Jordan to be. Now with the lead female, Allie wasn't the best heroine. If anything Sasha should've taken her place. Her spit fire, witty attitude was thus far my favorite. The lead lacked personality and was more of an annoyance than anything. The sex scenes left much to desire and what was the biggest turn off for me was how Jordan was easily able to move on pass his relationship with Tyler. He has always mentioned Tyler was the only person he ever love but he was quick to jump on the Allie bandwagon and drop Tyler like a hot potato. May as well mention that once Jordan and Allie start having a casual fling, not exclusive by any means, Allie quick jealousy and referring her as the other woman when Tyler was around was lackluster and disrespectful to Tyler. She very much knew of their history.
The only good qualities I will mention is how the overall flow of the story made it easy to read and the backstories allowed you to get a better of understanding of the characters and reason behind their actions.
Moreover, I just want to touch on that even though this is a stand-alone novel, I really didn't feel like it was. It was more of a spin-off from the “Illusion” series from the same author. A few things would have made more sense if you read the series first before starting this.
Side note, is it wrong that I was more interested in Jordan and Tyler's relationship? There was a whole lot more sparks in their relationship and their past history bonded them like no other.
Anyway, with the series being a huge letdown, I had dropped this series by chapter 15 at 63%. I was expecting so much more but I was left more than disappointed with the outcome of this story.
As usual this book exceeded all my expectations!! I love everything I've ever read by this author and this book really got me. I have been anticipating Jordan's story for months and I loved it!! Jordan is a complicated man that hides his emotions but if he loves you you'll feel it with your entire being. I loved that we got the Illusion men and women in this story too. I can't seem to get enough of this series of the spin offs.
This was a nice upbeat story of finding love in the unlikeliest place and with the unlikeliest person. I really thought their story was well written and look forward to Darren’s story. Any story in the Weston family saga has been great. I also liked Sasha, Jordan’s right hand girl, with her feistiness and protectiveness of both Jordan and Allie. Would love to know her story!
I received an advanced readers copy of Interlude in exchange for an honest review.
WOW! I have lost track of the amount of times I have read about Noah, Sawyer and Mel in the Just an Illusion series, so I was a little apprehensive with the announcement of upcoming additions and expansions to the story. How could Dee take us back into that world without it being repetitive? After all, we have already met both Ali and Jordan... How could we get a story that was equally as engaging, heart wrenching and immersive? Well I honestly don't know how she does it but once again she has written a book you will not want to put down! Cancel your weekend plans, turn off your phone and find a comfy spot because you won't be going anywhere for a while once you start this newest book. Jordan and Ali's story has enough influence from the Just an Illusion series that we get to see our favorite characters again but they don't over shadow our main characters. This book of course focuses on Jordan who has to really examine his life and what direction he wants to take it in. Living through a nightmare has given him some definite issues in letting people get close to him. When Ali enters his life he is forced to decide if he is going to stay with the status quo or move past his discomfort and risk it all for something new. Speaking of Ali, she has just taken control of her life again. She is starting fresh and examining where she really wants to be heading for her future. With her own past shadowing her, she has her own insecurities and doubts to work through. Thankfully where Ali lacks confidence, Jordan has it in spades and where Jordan needs patience, understanding and love, Ali excels in providing it. The two genuinely make each other better and that is the kind of relationship we all need in life. This having been said their are, however, three things that I would have loved to see 1. I would have loved for this book to be longer. Part of what makes the Illusion and Kate series amazing is the slow progression and many details and events added to the story that help the characters grow together. It also has the reader more engaged and invested in them and their story. 2. I loved Ali's selfless and giving personality however I was not impressed by her forgiveness of Evan. Unlike Tyler, Evan is never described as anything besides a money grubbing cheater after her trust fund and political reputation. While the scene of Ali and Evan at the bar shows more depth to his personality it's hard to invest in or believe his position with no other positive history to base it on. As such it kinda came across as disingenuous. 3. I don't want to wait till April for the next instalment lol - I can't wait to see who is able to win Darren's heart. I have a suspicions it might be a character that has popped up previously, especially on open mic nights .... Whoever it is, I have confidence in Dee's ability to make her someone both worthy of Darren and Cadence as well as loveable for those of us who will always miss Belle. I'm also looking forward to Eli's struggles ahead with Rory and yes, fingers crossed, I want Nate to one day meet a very awesome chick, last name Houston, who's band just happens to be recording in his dad's studio. 😉😉
Finally a big thank you to D.Kelly for once again sharing her characters with a very appreciative audience and to everyone else ... I don't know why you are still reading this ... Don't you have a book to buy?
I’ve been waiting for Jordan’s story since the beginning of Noah and Sawyer’s story. I’m excited to finally get it.
Jordan lost his parents and siblings when he was young. His father killed them and himself. His cousin Sawyer walked in right afterwards and saved his life. Since that night neither of them were the same.
Jordan’s aunt and uncle took him in. Adopted him and treated him as their own. His brothers are founders of the popular bad BAD. Jordan is happy and proud of his brothers and their friends.
Jordan has his bar Just An Illusion and that’s his baby. Other than his family Jordan’s heart is closed off to love. Jordan’s openly bisexual. He’s been in an on again off again relationship for years and years with Tyler.
Tyler wants to get serious with Jordan. But, Jordan knows if they do Tyler’s family will disown him and Jordan can’t live with himself if Tyler looses his family. When the new bartender looks at him Jordan knows everything is about to change. But, he’s not 100% sure he can put the wall around his heart down completely for the first time.
Allie needs a fresh new start. Her father has been in control of her life since forever. When Allie catches her fiancé cheating on her she’s had it. She hasn’t been happy or in love with him for awhile now. Allie’s done being controlled and she’s ready to be in control.
Allie calls her best friend Sasha and she offers her a place to stay and a job. Allie got in her car and drove to her new beginning. When Allie sees her boss for the first time her heart stops. He’s dangerously beautiful and she knows she can’t jeopardize her job.
The more time Jordan and Allie spend together the harder it is for them to not cross the lines. Allie knows she shouldn’t jump right into a relationship. Jordan knows he needs to figure out things with his heart and mind between Tyler and Allie. These two have such a pull towards each other that it just gets harder and harder to stay away.
This was another POV in the Weston family. If you’ve read The Illusion Series you’ll know details from Noah about Jordan’s past. Then, heard Sawyer’s POV and how it effected them. But, now you’ll get it from Jordan. You’ll also see Jordan’s view on everything that’s happened to Noah and the gang.
Seeing a different version of things that happened already was cool. Learning the story of Noah and Sawyer being silent partners and Jordan being frontman of the bar.
I loved Jordan in the previous books. He’s just as amazing now!!! I felt for him with everything he’d gone thru. The way he was with Allie and Tyler I felt for him. I’m glad he was able to figure out both his heart and mind.
Allie was amazing as well. I’m extremely glad she didn’t jump into Jordan’s bed immediately. That she gave her heart time to heal. She was also really understanding of everything Jordan related.
These two are great together. I gotta admit though reading this is making me extremely nervous to read Darren’s book. I’m going to have my tissues ready bc I can just imagine what I’m going to get when I read it.
Interlude is a great addition to one of my very favorite series EVER!!!!
D. Kelly has always surprised me, but she completely took me by surprise with this book. I knew what was going to happen because I have read the other books, and the events occur concurrently with those, so that wasn’t the surprise. The surprise was Jordan. He was a mystery to me. I wasn’t quite sure who he was or if I was going to really like him. He was a master at the facade he created to keep others at a distance. Granted, he loved the physical contact with others, yet he couldn’t handle the emotional contact...sometimes even with family. However, Allie was able to somehow penetrate those steel walls around his heart.
Allie was the direct opposite of Jordan. She is open and sweet. Yes, Jordan is honest but not so much with his feelings, not like Allie. She is light to Jordan’s darkness, and she was just the type of girl I would want to be friends with. I couldn’t help but love her. She had the ability to change a room just by walking in...not so much with her physical beauty but the beauty she radiated from within.
The storyline itself was addictive. Once I started, I was enthralled. I looked up and didn’t realize I had been reading until late into the night. The chemistry between these two is INSANE, yet Kelly doesn’t short-change their emotional connection. There was a bit of a love triangle, but I have to say it was unlike one I have ever seen before. There is a bit of angst, and at times, I got aggravated at Jordan. I just wanted him to make a decision. On the other hand, I could understand why he behaved the way he did.
This series has been one of my favorites ever! Kelly knew how to balance steam, romance, love, family, pain, and hope seamlessly. It is a series not to be missed. She will bring out all of your emotions. You will be happy, angry, sad, and yes, happy again!!!! I was so glad to finally get Jordan’s story. I’m looking forward to getting to know more of the secondary characters in upcoming novels.
" ... Fate is nothing more than life's evil sister." Yes, Yes, Yes to that. Interlude by D. Kelly is a novel in her An Illusion Series. The book is a interconnected standalone, for better understanding I recommend to read the books in order.
Interlude is Jordan Weston's story. Jordan is the cousin and adopted brother of Noah, Sawyer, Diane and Rory Weston - known from previous books. The story starts out some time before the tragic accident of BAD, Noah and Sawyer's band. Jordan is the one who draw the short stick in life. His past is a tragic and brutal one. He still has issues and some days are simply hard to get by. His love life is a complicated one too. For years he had an on and off relationship. But that's about to change when Allie shows up. Allie is his best friends best friend - sounds complicated, but isn't. She's about to start over. New city, new job, new home, new life. Short cut - she's his newest employee and they have crazy chemistry. Only Jordan is not very decisive. He simply can't pick one relationship. To make matters worse, he still battles with his issues. I read all the previous books and I can't express how much I love the stories around the Weston family and friends. I had high expectations for Interlude and I so not disappointed. The author had me in tears at the first chapter and after reading the book cover to cover in one sitting, I was a mess. A blubbering, but somehow happy mess. It took me exactly one chapter to get hooked on Jordan and Allie's story. Interlude is a raw and gritty, heart-wrenchingly beautiful read that gave me all the feels. I recommend the book and the series and give 5+ stars.
Wow! D.kelly has written an incredibly heartbreakingly addictive story that I could not put down once I started reading. This is the first book I have read by this author and the author really delivered with this story. I was completely in awe of the author's ability to make me feel so many emotions throughout the story. I honestly felt like I was there in the story experiencing the pain and heartache that the characters were experiencing in the story. interlude was an addictive and heartbreaking read that has given me a serious book hangover.
Allie was a strong take charge kind of woman that made some major changes in her life during the story. I loved the way that she was able to stand on her own two feet and stand up for herself with her father. I loved the way she was always there for Jordan despite the uncertainty of their relationship.
Jordan hid a lot of emotions within the story and I loved when I was able to get his point of view in the story because I was able to understand the reasons why he was the way he was. Jordan broke my heart a lot throughout the book with the things that happened to him and the grief that he constantly carried around with him.
Interlude was amazingly written by the author and you can instantly tell how much passion they put into this story. This story had me an emotional wreck at the end of it and had me tearing up throughout the story as well. This shows how incredible this story was and since I finished reading it I have not been able to get it out of my head. This is a definite must read that I highly recommend.
I finished this book about a week ago and it’s taken me this long to put pen to paper and even now I’m not sure I can do this story justice. Jordan Weston’s story is a beautifully written emotional read that’s full of love and turmoil something I guess I should have expected given that he is Noah and Sawyer’s troubled cousin who we first meet back in the Illusion series. This book can be read as a stand-alone but I feel you would get so much more out of it if you take the time to read the amazing Illusion Series first. Jordan was the only survivor when his family were murdered when he was a child and as you would expect that lead to a troubled life but he has learned to be happy with what he has in life and that’s his extended family through the Weston’s and his bar. Allie has just started working for him and she is loving her job at the bar so even though she is attracted to Jordan she is determined to keep her distance she is not prepared to risk her job for a night of passion........ Words can not describe how much I love the characters from the Illusion Series, I love the plots, I love the chemistry and loyalty as well as the friendships that have formed throughout the books. This story like all the others captivated me from the first page to the very last line, I cried I smiled and I wished and hoped for the HEA Jordan rightly deserved. A brilliant read for lovers of the Illusion Series as well as newbies to the trails and tribulations of the Weston family and their friends. What next from the very talented D.Kelly I guess we wait with baited breath.
Jordan Weston is the cousin of the bad boys of Bastards and Dangerous. He and Sawyer lived through a horrible experience that wiped out Jordan family and that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Jordan is a very handsome man. He is bi-sexual loving men and women. He has a bar called Just an Illusion which fits his life. Allie Baker, left her life behind to come work at Just an Illusion. She can see through Jordan’s façade. She doesn't need the complication of Jordan but she craves his cocky attitude and the looks she gives her. She tries to stay away but the more she finds out about him the more she wants find out more about him.
Jordan knows falling for Allie is a very bad idea, but Allie pushes his buttons. Allie needs her job at the bar but she realizes that being with Jordan is so more important to her. Can they find a way to make it work? Can they work together and play together?
I really wasn't too sure about Jordan before this book. I now totally understand him better and love him. I love how Dee Kelly can take a character that isn't as well known in a series or even that well liked and make them loved in their own book. She really shows us who Jordan is in this book. We get to see the love triangle and how much it hurts Jordan and why he is the way he was in the other books. It all makes sense. I love Allie and Jordan and think they are perfect together. They have chemistry and fit so well together. I just love this book. But I love everything Dee Kelly writes. Its amazing like always. Love it. Go once click this series!
Jordan is the bar owning Cousin of the Rock Superstar Weston Brothers, but their relationship is so much more. Having witnessed the death of his family at a young age, the Westons are HIS FAMILY, his brothers, his sisters, oh how i love this family !! And omg I think this book just about exceeded every expectation i had!! Jordan is the strong silent, damaged man. He doesn't do love, after all for him that means losing those people and when Allie bounces into town and becomes his newest bar maid, i'm not sure this man ever stood a chance !!! She's smart, sassy, hot as all get out and never scared to say what's on her mind!! The chemistry and pull between the two hits you like a flame thrower leaping out of the pages. This is more than a romance, its facing all your demons, its finding trust in yourself, its finding faith in others and its finding Love !! I loved that they didn't just dive into a relationship, yes there was complications!! But i also loved the way they came about and yet the whole time i feared for them both. Yes this author didn't make it easy to predict how this love would end, and at times i just might have been wanting to pull my hair out !! It's difficult not to feel invested and involved in this family and their relationships because you just feel a part of it all as it progresses !! Jordan was always intriguing, now well Wow, I think he might just be my favourite !!
I wasn't sure how D. Kelly was going to be able to give me Jordan without ripping my heart out and tearing it to bits- again, but she did it. That's not to say that Interlude wasn't heavy at times because it was. And (mini spoiler alert if you haven't read the Illusion Series) having to lose Noah again gutted me, but there was a lightness here that I wasn't expecting.
A lot if it came from Allie's smarts and sass and strength. I loved how open and honest she was about her past and her plans for her future. Especially when it came to Jordan. The attraction was obvious from the first time they laid eyes on each other. Gah- Jordan! How could I not love him. All his broken pieces from his painful past. All this kindness. His generosity. His tender yet guarded heart. He had always struggled to let someone in. But one look, one conversation and he knew Allie was his game changer.
Cue the slow burn. There was a lot of back and forth. With every glance the anticipation built and built and built. And when Jordan and Allie finally gave into what both of their hearts was screaming out for, everything clicked into place.
Allie and Jordan's journey was full of emotion- but not so much that you're drowning in sorrow- and heat and heart. D. Kelly gave me everything I wanted and few things I wasn't expecting with Interlude. And that ending...I'm holding onto hope to see more of this family soon!
I went into this book solely based on the synopsis, not realizing that it’s technically book #6 of the Illusion series. After doing some research, I learned that this can be read as a standalone. I definitely agree with that, but I do think it will add more to the story if you knew the backgrounds of the other characters.
This story is about the character of Jordan. I don’t know how much we know about him in past books, but right off the back we learn that his entire immediate family was murdered by his father and he is the sole survivor. Thank god for his aunt, uncle, and cousins who through the years have become his parents and siblings. Sadly, Jordan still suffers from nightmares and issues from the ordeal. Due to this, he doesn’t open up to many people and stays away from relationships. I also loved the fact that he was bisexual. I feel like we don’t see men being comfortable enough with their bisexuality in stories, and it was refreshing to see this in Jordan.
I really enjoyed Allie’s character. I loved watching her being open with Jordan, and allowing Jordan the safe space to open up to her. I enjoyed seeing their connection grow into something more, and I loved the last few chapters!
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It definitely broke my heart at parts, but I loved the connections. Not just between Allie and Jordan, but between Jordan and his family. I definitely want to check out the other books in the series.
Interlude An Illusion Series Novel D. Kelly Jordan only asks for one thing - honesty! His on and off relationship with best friend Ty is probably lacking something. Then he employs Allie, she says she needs a job more than anything else as she is hiding from her past. But the spark is as intense as J. To bad boy Jordan family is everything where as Allie is running from hers. She had seen tragedy and has been betrayed by the man who should live her most. Allie is a strong, intelligent and feisty lead that can handle Jordan’s intensity and darkness. In true D Kelly style there is love, laughter and gut-wrenching sadness. You will need a tissue or two for this read. However, the brightness outweighs the dark and true love is at the essence of this read. Ms Kelly is a mastermind at real characters with flaws and big hearts. The prologue covers Jordan’s two family tragedies, 20 years before and the accident. We then go back 7 years before the accident to how the Illusion bar got out of trouble and introduces Jordan’s preferences. You might need to be a little open minded for this story. This can be read as a stand-alone with hea but is a spin-off of the highly successful Just An Illusion series with the same timeline and characters. I can’t wait for Darren’s story, and Eli’s too! I received an arc of this book. 5 stars all the way.
I’m 100% new to D Kelly and wasn’t sure what to expect with this book! I went in blind, no blurb, no knowledge of previous characters just took a chance and I was COMPLETELY MIND BLOWN! I fell head over heals for Allie and the fire inside her soul! It was that exact fire that had Jordan taking a closer look and rethinking his life! What I love with these two was the brutal honesty they had with one another! They didn’t tiptoe and laid all emotions out! I loved the strength it for Allie to fight for what she wanted wether it be in her personal or romantic life! Her ability to step aside and do what she needed spoke volumes about how truly amazing she was!
Jordan and Allie both coming from traumatic backgrounds were inspirational because of their ability to rise above and more importantly their ability to allow love in! Gah the angst, emotions and overall story line was just awe inspiring and amazing! I’m in complete awe with D Kelly and her ability to craft a story that is so touching and shows just how important it is to have people in your corner!
If you’re new to this author don’t worry about not having read the previous series! This story can be read as a standalone and won’t have you scratching your head in confusion! All I know is that I need to read any and all work previous because I have fallen for this authors writing and the amazing characters!
Hauntingly Beautiful yet still a sad but heartwarming story as the tragedies of the illusion Series are told through Jordan’s Perspective. Not what I expected but so much more prepare to fall in love with Allie and Jordan. Jordan is sexy, deeply rooted and captivatingly handsome rocker. An individual who has suffered so my devastating loses in life you can’t believe he is who he is. Allie a beautiful young women who is equally scarred trying to escape her past and start over. Allie has such a capacity to empathize because of her own loses. The two meet after Jordan hires her as a waitress based his best friends Sasha recommendation. The chemistry is immediate. The spark between these two is undeniable and so irresistible. Jordan is attractive to her immediately and tells her that they will have no problems as long as she is honest with him. Allie is honest with him from the get go when she admits she heard him with Tyler in his office. This is the story of how fate, trust, family and love can help you survive the worst and be the best. More than a five star read one you will read again and again as the unforgettable Illusion Series lives on through Jordan’s story. Dee Kelly continues to bring these characters to life leaving you wanting more can’t wait for Darren’s and Eli’s storylines.
I love the Illusion Series and what a way to kick off this spin-off series.
This book gives you grief, sorrow, loyalty, friendships, family, happiness, confusion, lust, love and sex. The book is based on past events that happen through the previous books and Jordan's future, with dual POVs.
⛔⛔⛔SOME SPOILERS⛔⛔⛔
We met Jordan through The Illusion series based on Sawyer, Noah & Mel's POVs. We know Jordan had a rough childhood and had to endure a pain nobody should have to face and that pain carried on into adulthood. He's a hot mess, but loyal. He loves Tyler but their relationship is like a light bulb on and off all the time. Allie enters his life and his life is about to change forever, when its time to face his insecurities will he choose Tyler or Allie?
Allie left her cheating ex, moved away to live with her best friend and work in Jordan Weston's bar, she never expected to be so drawn to her hot tatted broody boss. When her and Jordan's spark is too much to resist, she goes with it but she feels insecure partly from her ex and from Tyler and not knowing where her relationship with Jordan will go. Her heart is on the line, but will Jordan finally take a chance with his heart but will hers get broken in the process?
When I first read about Jordan's story in the Just an Illusion series I wanted to know more about him and understand more about that thing that made Jordan and Sawyer closer.
Yes, we get to know about that but most of all we understand how everything affected him and made him the man he is, with all his insecurities but also with something more like respect and loyalties.
Jordan is in a point of his life where everything will change again for him (if you have read the Just an Illusion series you will understand more) and add that his love life is at a point where he is so confused but that was just because he still haven't found the one.
Allie is running from her old life where people told her what to do even if that hurt her, she won't allow those kind of people again in her life. So when she meets Jordan, she doesn't want to be the one to ruin what he has.
After everything that Jordan went through, I am happy that he finally reached a point where everything is good with his life, that he had to keep the people he loves the most to help him go through all the tragedies in his life.
He just needed the right person to feel everything was ok in life. Loved and enjoyed the fact we still hear about loved characters from the previous books.
This was a wonderful addition to a fabulous series, I do suggest you read the previous books as this book covers events that happened just from another point of view. We finally get Jordan’s story and it was as heartbreaking as I thought it would be, even though you know certain events are going to happen it still made me cry, also it was interesting to read it from another point of view.
Jordan runs a bar where BAD started out and pop in from time to time, he’s BI and has an on/off relationship with Tyler, things shift for Jordan when Allie comes into his bar looking for a job. Sparks fly instantly between them but Jordan struggles with what to do as Tyler is a big part of his life. Allie is running from a controlling father and abusive boyfriend, starting a relationship is the last thing she needs, but soon gives in to her feelings. Who will Jordan pick? Will he get the HEA he deserves??
I love this series so much and couldn’t wait to read Jordan’s story, as usual which this author the read is taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions and left with their heart in tatters!! So pleased he found his one, can’t wait to read Darren’s story.

Interlude is the spin-off of just an illusion. Is the ‘’encore’’ of the encore. And if you haven’t read the just an illusion series… like really what are you waiting for? OK JUST FINISH THIS ONE AND THEN GO BACK and thank me later.
When I first read about Jordan I knew his love story was going to be epic, one of those who make you cheer for whoever he chooses because you know you just want him to have the best. I was septic about Ty, I wasn’t even expecting his story but like I said is the encore I needed without even knowing. His side give another side of what happen and on how he feels and deal with losing his brother.
Dee Kelly, I consider this book a love letter to all the people (myself include) who suffer from any form of mental illness.
J is a cocky bastard, what just seem like a family character, a loyal brother, friend, generous and strong human and I could go on and on…
Allie remind me of someone who after taking on sh*** from everywhere to please everybody but herself decided that enough is enough. I love her strength, her grace, her sassiness and her compassion.
This book was unexpected and completely delightful. I laugh of all the sexiness in it, I feel the love but above all I fell for his authenticity. NORMAL.DOT
*A ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.5 STARS REVIEW* We get another book in the Illusion Series and this time we get Jordan Weston's story. He has a past that haunts him and will never forget. A tragedy that will have you feeling broken for him.
Enter Allie Baker who came to start a new life away from her family that has future plans set for her. She was at her boiling point and left to seek something on her own and becoming more independent. Thanks to her best friend, Sasha she has a place to live and a job opportunity as a waitress.
The first encounter between Jordan and Allie was intense and filled with surprise until they realized that they are boss and employee respectively. With both of them dealing with personal issues the more they work and hang out together the harder it is becoming to decide on what they want. Not one to be just another person; a time line of a decision is discuss. However, another tragedy strikes and reality opens their eyes to a new perspective.
My favorite take away from the story is to be honest no matter what the details and outcomes entails. It made the story more intriguing when the need for answers comes into play. This was a good addition to the series and looking forward to reading more of the characters.
After reading all the previous books in the Illusion Series I was dying to read Jordan Weston's story. Jordan was a very complex character because of the tragedies he faced in his childhood. He's scarred, emotionally closed off, and jaded. On the other side he's loyal to his family, dedicated to his friends, generous, and hard working. To top it off, he's bisexual. He avoids relationships and commitment because of his past and anxiety issues.
When Jordan meets Allie, his life begins to change. His on again, off again affair with Tyler is just not giving him the satisfaction and fulfillment it once did. After ten years he's beginning to want something more in his life. Allie sparks his interest and soothes his soul.
He knows he has to make a choice. He's upfront and honest with both Ty and Allie about his feelings. It's all a matter of accepting FATE like his brother Noah always believed in. He has to learn to trust his feelings and choices. He has to listen to his heart.
Once again D. Kelly took her readers on an emotional journey and created another epic love story!
