This review is for the audiobook version

Sabrina is married to David who is a detective and they have a 10 year old daughter. Sabrina runs the family coffee shop but also helps with police investigations as a consultant as she has a knack for solving cases.

It is just another day at work when Ryan calls in for his morning expresso but he looks like a man with a lot on his mind. However, it is the wrong time and place for a chat so he goes off to work. The following day he doesn't turn up for his coffee and Sabrina acting on her gut instinct goes to check his home and discovers his dead body.

Then follows the investigation as Sabrina and David start to work their way through the suspects and clues.

This is an intriguing cozy mystery not too long so it is ideal for a listen as you walk book. From an audiobook perspective I found the 'he said, she said' a tad annoying but overall it was a good story and well narrated.

**This review is for the audiobook on Audible.**

Murder and Chocolate Fudge Cake by Meredith Potts, narrated by Carrie Burgess is a light and fun cozy mystery for those who enjoy them most! While it can stand alone, it is part of a series, if you choose to continue solving cases alongside this husband-wife duo. Sabrina, the main character, is first introduced to us in The Daley Buzz Cozy Mystery series. Years later when we meet her again, Sabrina is married, has a 10-year-old daughter, and is solving cases full-time with her husband. This later series is called Mysteries of Treasure Cove; this book is part of that series. The only thing that is confusing to me is there are two books in the Treasure Cove series listed as Book 1 - this one and Murder and Layer Cake. Either way, I don't think makes a difference the order in which they are read because each one is a complete mystery from start to finish and not dependent upon the storylines of the others to make sense. However, I do recommend starting with The Daley Buzz series because it's fun getting to know the characters when they were younger, but that is just personal preference. As I listened, though, I again felt like I had heard this audiobook/storyline before, or at least parts of it. I could be wrong, and since I also own the print copy of this book, I'm hoping the familiarity is stemming from reading it. If I had any advice it would be to create a storyline and/or setting that greatly differs from book to book, giving readers and listeners a new experience with each case, while keeping true to the characters we know and love. Don't be scared to go out on a limb....we are fans of cozies, after all! We love a good case, especially when it's memorable. :-)

The narration by Carrie Burgess is great! The quality of the recording is professional and not rushed. Her voice and tone are perfect for this series, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her.

Overall, I give Murder and Chocolate Fudge Cake: Mysteries of Treasure Cove, Book 1 by Meredith Potts, narrated by Carrie Burgess 4/5 stars. The length is perfect for me, since I prefer shorter listens to longer ones. If you love listening to books in a series, this is the author to follow because you don't have to wait very long for the next in series to come out on audio! I love that! Meredith Potts is amazing in the sense that she doesn't make her listeners wonder when (or if) the next book will be recorded. I have listened to almost all of her books (I missed the first few in The Daley Buzz series), and I plan to continue as long as she keeps writing and Carrie Burgess keeps recording.

Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. Happy listening! :-)

The writing is bland and repetitive. The amount of times the authors used the word "said", the saying "bit the corner of __ lip" "waggled his finger" and talked of "knitted brows" made up 90% of the writing in this book. There was no suspension and the case seemed solved immediately. I was really hoping to enjoy this book as I thought the series looked really cool and had such fun covers, but the lack of skill in writing I just couldn't let slide and it stuck out like a sore thumb the whole time. I would have DNF'd if not for this book being part of a reading challenge. I hope to find a cozy mystery series I do enjoy, as I love the concept. However, this will not be it.

Meredith Pott's Murder And Chocolate Fudge Cake is my first experience with the author's work. I wasn't especially impresssd with the book. Instead of engaging the reader and sweeping them away INTO the story the author took the more impersonal route of story-telling by narrating the story. I find cozy mysteries that do not engage the reader lack the main purpose of this genre - solving a mystery.

Murder and Chocolate Fudge Cake - Mysteries of Treasure Cove Bk 1 - Written by Meredith Potts
Danger, Murder and friends, deadly combinations!

A shocking murder. A friend in need. A dangerous investigation. And cake. One of Sabrina Carlson's oldest friend's is found murdered. Unfortunately, she doesn't have time to grieve. After all, the killer is out there somewhere. And she isn't about to let them get away. Instead, Sabrina is going to do everything in her power to bring the guilty party to justice. Even if it means risking her life. But is she really prepared to discover the truth? Or will this investigation break her? Find out by buying a copy of Murder and Chocolate Fudge Cake right now!

This is the first book in the Mysteries of Treasure Cove series. If you like page-turning cozy mysteries featuring a picturesque coastal setting, plenty of twists and turns, and a witty sleuth, then this is the book for you.

What did I like? We all love Meredith Potts cozies but this one I think is my favorite until the next one comes out and takes its place! LOL This was really an emotional and action-packed one for Sabrina and one of her toughest cases!

What will you like? Of course, well written, very detailed, emotional and dangerous all the way through. The action hardly stopped, and Sabrina and David are really stumped several times as the killer was really slippery! The best parts are the stops for food and I was hungry all the way to the end. Had to get up and bake me a chocolate cake…. Not as good as the bakery but it hit the spot! I received this from the author for an honest review with no other compensation.

Treasure Cove, California is not your typical small town. For one thing, being a popular tourist destination, Treasure Cove seems to have a higher than expected number of murders.

Sabrina Carlson knows quite a bit about the murders, since her husband is Detective David Carlson. Sabrina has been helping him catch the culprits and put them where they belong - in prison!

Sabrina also oversees the operation of the family business, The Daley Buzz coffee shop. When Ryan Davidson, Sabrina’s friend and a regular customer at Daley Buzz, is found murdered in his own living room, it is up to Sabrina and David to uncover the killer. While there are a few possible suspects, there are very few clues. Another issue is the victim’s 18 year old daughter is nowhere to be found! She was not in the house when Sabrina found her father's body. Where is she? Is she involved in her father’s death? Is she safe?

Who would want to kill Ryan? Was it related to this landscape company, either a disgruntled employee or an unhappy competitor? After all, a competitor has been relentlessly trying to buy him out! Could it somehow be related to his messy divorce?

Meredith Potts is a master when it comes to writing books that grip and hold the reader attention! Her character developments have realistic personalities. She gives her characters tremendous depth without being excessively wordy and leaves you looking for more of their adventures in future stories.

Mysteries of Treasure Cove gives us a look at the town 10 years in later, and Sabrina and David are still solving murders! This small town has seen it's share of tragedy, and this latest murder is close to Sabrina. But will it stop her from investigating? She is more determined than ever to find the culprit and is not afraid to ask all that may be involved. This is a great idea, giving us that glimpse of Sabrina and David later in life. It's good to see how they take care of their daughter, Jessica and we see how well Sabrina's mom and grandmother have been doing too. I love the consistency of characters too! It's always fun to have the same characters, like Shannon and Crystal pop up. It's like coming back home! If you loved the first series, you will definitely want to give this a listen. Narrated by Carrie Burgess and she does a very good job portraying all the members of Treasure Cove!

Meredith Potts has expanded the Treasure Cove stories with the Daley Buzz cafe and delving into the lives of Sabrina and David as they age. Murder and Chocolate Fudge Cake is full of wonderful characters, vibrant imagery, suspense, romance and humor. I enjoy the cozy mystery genre and find this author to have a great panache for writing. The story is original, yet not quite believable with Sabrina's involvement in solving the cases her husband is working on. Carrie Burgess does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. She gives them distinguishable voices and adds the right emotions and expressions. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Murder and Chocolate Fudge Cake
: Meredith Potts

This is the second book I've listened to in this series. I love a good cozy mystery where the protagonist does their own investigating. I find it hard to believe a law enforcement agency would allow a non LEO wife to act as a partner with her husband. Other than trying to get past that the storyline doesn't require a lot of attention from the listener. The suspects are so so, a lot of bluster but no real depth.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Carrie Burgess.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Sabrina Carlson did not intend to become an amateur homicide investigator, it just turns out that she has a knack for it. After solving several cases, she now has the blessing of the captain of the Treasure Cove Police Department to assist her husband, David, a detective when a murder case arises. This case is harder; a good friend is the victim. Sabrina and David are determined that justice will prevail. This case will be a challenge since clues seem to be non-existent and no one has an alibi.

I finished the book in one day and enjoyed it. The characters are likable and the story was a fun read even if the dialogue sometimes seemed a little stilted.

When Sabrina's oldest friend is murdered, it brings back memories of her sister. In a panic mode, Sabrina sends her daughter, Jessica and her parents to the cabin for safety. Everyone that David and Sabrina talk to are not all that forthcoming and unfriendly. Even their own daughter, Jessica is tired of having to go to the cabin. It's not like she doesn't know what is going on. Can David and Sabrina find the killer and the reason why? You will have to read the book for the answers. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Good mystery!
The author keeps you guessing on who the deed tilled the very end I love when an author does that. I got to read and listen so I had even more fun. I really suggest if you get a chance this was a great way to enjoy the book. It does not really matter how you enjoy the book you are in for a treat. This series has characters that are on the more mature side so that was a nice change I highly recommend the book. This was the first book I have listen to that was narrated by Carrie Burgess I think she did a good job.

This is a cozy mystery that will keep you guessing as Sabrina and her husband attempt to figure out who murdered one of Sabrina's oldest friends. There are quite a few suspects and none of them have alibis for the time the murder occurred. Then one of them slips up----will you be able to guess ahead of time who did it?

Sabrina and her husband always seem to think best when eating so get ready for some delicious sounding food----and desserts to die for!

This is an easy going clean novel that will keep you reading until the very end!

Just remember that murder is the main theme, not ruining the diet! Husband is small town police detective with a tiny budget and wife is his unpaid non police investigation partner. An old friend is murdered and there is no lack of uncooperative suspects making a tough job even more difficult. Good sleuthing complete with twists and red herrings but no erotica or gory details. The publisher's blurb gives hints and there is no need for spoilers. I loved it!

When one of Sabrina’s regular customer fails to show up one morning, she visits his house and finds his dead body. The suspects include his soon to be ex wife who is making the divorce bitter and his business partner who wants to sell the business. Things look bleak as clues to the case keeps Sabrina and David with no real answers.

This is start of the new spinoff of the Daley Buzz series. A fun food cozy read with reference to cake.

My sixteenth read/listen from author Meredith Potts, A cute, well-written & enjoyable clean cozy mystery, my fourth read in this series. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I was impressed and enjoyed the vocal variety & inflections of the narrator. So good that I just went out & added 2 more books in the series to my TBR list! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

There is no shortage of suspects when the owner of one of the town' two landscaping businesses winds up dead, but coffee shop manager Sabrina and her police detective husband are more than a match for the murderer in this installment of the Treasure Cove Mystery series.
A light-hearted cozy mystery with an interesting cast of nasty townspeople, most of who make convincing potential murderers and a charming if determined pair of super-sleuths.
An entertaining read.

This was a really good story. I enjoyed the story itself, but it kept referencing things of the past as if we were supposed to know about it, but this is the first book in the series so it doesn't make sense that I would know about something that this series hasn't talked about yet. Also the narrator sounds like Cher from Clueless and never changed much of anything so everyone and every situation all sounded the same.

This is one of the 'sweetest ' cozy mysteries I've read. A police detective and his wife, a police consultant, solve a murder case with multiple suspects. The muder victim's wife is suing for divorce, his business partner wants to sell, and he didn't pay attention to an employee who loved him at a distance. Mix in a rival business owner and the pair have their work cut out for them. No foul language, no sex.

Another fantastic mysteryby Meredith Potts. She keeps your interest with believable and likable characters. She sets this with the owner of a coffee shop who likes to play detective. She carries a good storyline. Her books are clean so a teenager could read them. It is book #1 in a cozy mystery with the twists and turns, with people who don't have alibis. The narration keeps your interest. I enjoyed this book.

Murder and Chocolate Fudge Cake is a pleasant, cozy mystery with enough talk of food to make the reader hungry. The book is clean and easy to read, but a little simple and bland at times. Still, I could really go for a piece of cake...

The audiobook has a decent narrator, though she’s doesn’t do character voices very well. Her subtle Canadian accent added a little spice to her reading even if it didn’t really fit the story.

Joe Friday

If yourself Dr Dragnet with Joe Friday, you'll know this book. Not well written, didn't keep my I interest, dry, poor grammar...... The list could go on. I think the publisher has either a new writer or an outline that someone full in. Not going to read the other titles by this author.

Disappointed

This book is one I chose after reading the previous one. It seemed very redundant in the beginning but just became boring as it went along. Most of the story seemed to be about very mundane thoughts that did nothing to move the story along.
Didn’t anyone else read the book before publishing?

Not my fav

I never felt connected to the characters. I didn’t feel the characters connected with each other either. There was very little dialogue between the two main characters. The author describes every character the same way; age, body stature and hair color. I’m sorry, I won’t be reading the rest of this series.
