1995 Brice Garrison is your typical fifteen-year-old girl. Until one day, she's faced with a life threatening illness--one without a cure. Befriending her neighbor and finding support become her new normal. But will she have the strength to thrive when even her doctor doubts a long future? 2005 Harrison Wade is finally right where he wants to be--beside the woman who has owned his heart for more than a decade. Brice, his wild-haired wisp of a woman, has a love and grace unmatched by any other. Together they journey through the ins and outs of life until heartache becomes an unwelcome visitor threatening to steal their happiness forever. 2015 Brice has done her best to soften the edges of her jagged soul. But, sometimes the only way heartache can escape is to eat its way out, bit by bit, and by the end, it's hard to see what you're left with anymore. Chewed pieces of the person she once was, Brice must try to rebuild the life around her.
While there are things in the book that were not my favorite, overall I have to rate it the way I did, due to the content. I was recently familiarized with Type 1 Diabetes and so I was very invested in Brice's story. The time jumps were kind of long for me, and left me wanting more of the stuff in between, but the author did a good job of relaying what was needed in the timeline. I feel it was more a personal preference than something NEEDED in the book. It was overall an experience to read this. Seeing Brice go through the scariness of having a disease that has so much control and seeing Harrison go through the experience as someone who loves someone with such a monstrous disease. I very much enjoyed the book. Dusti has some spark in her writing. I can't wait to see what she gives us next.
Tiny Drops is one of those rare books, which hold so many poignant messages. Living with an invisible illness of any kind comes with a stigma attached and numerous misconceptions. It's refreshing and liberating to see the invisible made visible. Both enlightening and captivating, this is a story of first and foremost self-discovery. Told in three parts, over the course of fifteen years, from the time of Brice’s diagnosis, of falling in love, loss and acceptance. It truly is a captivating read. Heart wrenching and beautiful. Dusti bleeds onto these pages, pouring her heart and soul into every word. I never thought it possible to want to meet a character as much as Bernard. His charisma, wit and life knowledge make him such a monumental part of this story. “I hated the finger pricks the most, too,” he says softly, seemingly lost in the past. “But don’t you ever forget what those tiny drops add up to.” His words become stronger, challenging me to listen, begging to be understood. “Those tiny drops of blood are a small sacrifice for the years that you’ll get because of them. You can and will have a full, healthy life if you do what it takes.” Harrison is the perfect partner for Brice. Seeing how much he loves her, will have you as emotionally invested as I was. It will leave you with all the feels. There is something in here for everyone, what are you waiting for? One-click this now!
I fell in love with these characters. So refreshing to see a t1 as a main character. Ive never come across a book yet. The daily struggle of living with t1 were portrayed brilliantly. If it seems constant to a non diabetic-thats because it is. I laughed and cried in equal measure and was just in awe of the support network around. A fantastic read. Im so pleased to have found this author. I can't wait to read more. Highly recommend.
Dusti does such a wonderful job of bringing the TRUTH about Type 1 Diabetes (something I have personally dealt with since August of 1991) to light in a great story that is educational about this condition without constantly forcing information at you. She brings up many of the stereotypes we face each day by the public and immerses that into a wonderful story full of every emotion life can throw at you. Friendship, fear and loss, worry, joy, awe, frustration and anger. All through the view point of both someone with Type 1 Diabetes and someone who lives Type 1 Diabetes from the outside looking in. You can't ask for a better story and learning experience.
The characters were so good in this novel and it really hit home for me! My daughter is type 1 and I love the character in this novel Brice and how she handles everything with her diagnosis and her family. It was the most factual portrayal I have seen and it’s nice to see someone encouraging positive information and a drive to succeed in a character where life tries to bring her down. Thank you for this wonderfully inspiring story!
This was such an enlightening read! I learned so much, and my eyes were really opened about T1D. It is well written and such a great story. I highly recommend.
