MY BOY BAKUGO GETS ALL THE SHINE HE DESERVES!!!!!! My man out here showing some light character development and I love to see it. Plus some wild shit going on with Deku and one for all? I'm telling you this story is about to really propel forward like we haven't seen before.

All this Class A vs Class B stuff is pretty rocking. I love to see my favorites get trounced because it will only spur them on later.

But it’s the surprise at the end of this volume that really has me excited. Really excited. It’s a total WTF moment. Too good!

I think I've said previously that I prefer the school stuff over all of the big plot elements. It's what got me to the series in the first place.

But what about when the plot combines with the school shenanigans? That's when it gets really good.

Could use more of that in general, really.

I read My Hero Academia Vol. 22 as individual chapters on Viz's Shonin Jump Site.

This volume continues the plot started in the last one; with all of Class A and Class B separated into teams (but not mixing the classes together) and having them face off against one another. It's a great way to see how Class A has improved, and it also gives us a chance to learn more about Class B and their abilities as well.
There are a lot of great fights here. But the biggest thing? Bakugo seems to be actually growing up! I think we all knew that it had to happen, but man is it great seeing him take charge. Granted, he's still got the same 'tude. But that just means he's proving that he can continue to be himself, while making progress in becoming a hero. It's actually pretty impressive.

The battle training continues with the next round of teams going up against each other. The difference this time around is that some of the most popular heroes in training are now getting the spotlight and are ready to showcase their improvement after all the chaos they went through.

And the biggest winner of them all is Bakugo. His character just catapulted for stardom, as if he never was already the love of every fan of this series!

The ending also gave us a nice teaser to what's going on with Midoriya's powers and all the mystery around his visions. Exciting stuff!

I can’t even properly formulate how happy I am to see my angry little Bakugo grow. And Todoriki’s slow relationship development with his father is something I’m super stoked to see.

This has to be my favorite training arc so far! I love seeing all the kids working together as teams outside of a crisis and watching them push themselves to grow stronger and better with their Quirks is so so satisfying!

And Bakugo had character development! And the fact that Monama says it exactly like that cracked me up as it’s a nod to both the characters and readers that, yes, growth has happened in him and it’s wonderful! To think I hated this character’s guts when I first met him and now I actually like him—true great writing at its finest!

I’m worried for Deku though, what is going on with One for All? So glad Uraraka and Shinto were able to stop his raging!

‼️Content‼️

Language: damned; geez; gah; hell-bent; freakin’; crap; darn; dammit; screwing up; holy crap; heck; what the; holy crud

Violence: injuries and blood (PG-PG-13); fighting with weapons, superpowers, and hand to hand (PG-PG-13); black smoke pours out of a character’s body and it appears to hurt

Sexual: a teen guy is a pervert; a girl’s shirt opens in the front all the way down to her stomach

Other: superheroes/supervillains/superpowers; a character can brainwash people

todoroki reaching new heights with his fire & pushing himself to the limit so that he literally passed out ,, & ida’s new quirk mode & prioritizing helping shoto over everything else (+ beating himself up for thinking he didn’t do enough 😭)

bakugo displaying teamwork 😦 (side note: bakugo basically cursing midoriya out & all might being like aw ❤️ such good friends ❤️)

and the ending…deku’s losing control…uraraka not hesitating to dive right in to try & help him…working together with shinso to try & stop him, because the focus became helping deku instead of just winning the game…😭😭

overall very angsty & i love angst 👹 this series is getting better and better

Okay. The back half of this volume really excited me. So we finally come to the battles between UA's class A & class B. I got to say Horikoshi kills it on the action and without a doubt Kacchan really shines here. I mean he totally dominated class B. But really loved the message Horikoshi was driving home that even though our main protagonists come from Class A & they have really been through the ringer that doesn't mean Class B has been slacking off polishing there quirk skills. The stuff with Midoriya losing control of his quirk was just riveting. Especially the role that Shinzo is going to play in the next volume. My hero academia is just one of the best action comics around. This volume was just a 8 out 10 all the way.

What I learned from reading this volume was that there is a right way and a wrong way to write a fight scene. The problem with the Momo Yaoyorozu team fight was that nothing was learned. We didn't learn anything new about the characters or the story, so it felt like a waste of time. However, this wasn't the case with the Todoroki team fight, because there were flashbacks for Ida and Todoroki which enhanced their characters. I thought this volume did a good job of not just having random fight scenes. Overall, I thought there significant character building, so the fights didn't just feel like a waste of time.

"YOU MEAN HE'S GOTTEN CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT?!"

This arc.

THIS ARC.

IT IS ONE OF THE BEST ARCS OF ALL TIME.

Seriously, though, all of Class A and Class B are wonderful and amazing, don't get me wrong, but this volume really makes Bakugo and Shinso absolutely shine!!!

I thought this one was super cool, because it showcased class 1-b and their quirks! It's always cool to learn about that stuff. There weren't any villains in this one, it's just class 1-a and 1-b competing to show how they've improved. (Or something like that)

Also Tokoyami keeps coughing and I keep expecting him to like die or something, because *gasp how dramatic!* but nah. He's just coughing.

In other news, the redemption arc for Endeavor is starting to exist, which will be super cool to see where it ends.

The ending of the book was very exciting. It seems that the stuff that happened in previous books is being brought into this one, with a change in One for All. I remember hearing something about it in a video, but it's still cool to read it as it's happening. I wonder if All Might is gonna be like "oh yeah that happened to me too" or if he'll have only vague ideas of what's happening to Midoriya. I mean, based off the thing where All Might was like "The vestiges don't really do anything" and later Midoriya had a dream (more of a vision, apparently) where the og carrier of One for All was like "Hey dude you're like 5% of the way or something congrats" after his fight was Gentle Criminal, I have a feeling that All Might didn't really fully experience One for All, or at least he didn't experience it the way that Midoriya is.

All in all, this was wack and exciting.

The joint battle training between class 1-A and 1-B continues.

I really wasn’t expecting to follow every group of students with their battles, but I’m not mad about it. It’s chapters like these that give me a lot more opportunity to familiarize myself with the students and the dynamics they have with one another, and that in turn helps me get invest in them. In particular, I loved the change in dynamic between Deku and Bakugo. While the shift in their relationship is more subtle than not, it’s enough that I’m further invested in their relationship and I especially like how the two drive each other forward. Both Todoroki and Bakugo have seen some really great character development and I enjoying seeing them overcoming their largest hurdles, Todoroki with his fire, and Bakugo with his inability to work well with others. That Deku suddenly has a new power is an interesting development too.
