I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Written by ML James and narrated by David Martin, Proverbs with God's Wisdom shares quotes and summaries from the Biblical book of Proverbs. This work is well written and Martin provides excellent narration. Unfortunately, this book is simply a retelling of information that's freely available.
Proverbs is an accessible, empowering book. It contains timeless lessons that are as applicable today as they were when it was written. It covers topics such as wisdom, self-denial, endurance, hard work, godliness and discretion. If you model your life after the book of Proverbs, you will live a healthy, prosperous, fruitful life. In Proverbs with God's Wisdom, ML James splits the Proverbs up by topic. He shares many of Solomon's teachings in this compact, two hour audiobook. Unfortunately, he doesn't include any analysis or in-depth examination. Granted, the Proverbs can certainly stand on their own without any additional information. However, they've stood on their own for thousands of years. This book is a good reminder, but it doesn't include any knowledge that hasn't already been shared before.
David Martin is a consistent, engaging narrator. I've heard many iterations of the Proverbs over the years, and Martin's narration stands with the best. He speaks with confidence; he never hesitates or stumbles over passages. His words are emotive, and his voice doesn't become tiresome or grating. He was a perfect choice for this book.
I'd like to recommend this book simply because it contains empowering wisdom. If you hear the words and apply them, they will transform your life physically, emotionally, economically and spiritually. Martin does an excellent job narrating, and the content remains engaging throughout. Regrettably, this work doesn't contain any new information. It simply provides a good reminder, and it can instill positive motivation to dig deeper into the book of Proverbs.
This book is pretty much exactly what it says it is: selections from the biblical book of Proverbs arranged according to theme. I have not gone through it closely enough to be 100% sure, but I am reasonably confident that a good many verses have been left out entirely.
The Good: the text is almost entirely taken from God's word, and is therefore quality source material. Grouping the proverbs by theme is helpful for reference.
The Bad: I'm not a fan of the particular translation used.
Personally, I would rather have this as a physical book than an audiobook, as the reference value of audiobooks is less than that for hard copies.
I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left my honest review.
