Started strongly with an attention grabbing opening and an interesting premise but got bogged down with its slow pace and a h who swings between low self esteem and mulishness.
The beginning where the 6 feet h fishes out the 6’6” H out of a swollen roiling creek was stuff made of wonderfully original and romantic dreams. He is a US Marshall whose plane crashlands on her Tennessee farmland while he was transporting prisoners across the country. The gentle giant lawman and the ‘strong as ox’ bbw h who despairs of ever finding love, make a compelling pair. She falls pretty fast and hard for her ‘flotsam’, but he has a burnt past making a hea seem unlikely. He stays with her while he recovers and the FBI look for one missing prisoner. It is in these middling chapters that the book loses its momentum and the plot. What could have been memorable became tedious.
In a way the lonely farmer h’s almost pitiable desire for man and family before all else resonates on a human level but mostly it was embarrassing. When she realizes that the H was not responding, as she would have liked, she decides to trick him into giving her a baby (at least). That was more or less indefensible.
The book rallies towards the end but still the author preferred to take the long route home rather than a tighter and swift one. The H’s one last heroic act was befitting his size, as he does a Hercules to save her brother.
So it’s a long haul but the ending was sweet and touching.

Couldn't decide between 4 or 5 stars. Sharon Sala doesn't disappoint. This is a solid enjoyable romance. There were times that you thought you knew what was going to happen. SS led you right up to a precipice and just when you thought you were going over in the same old way, she turned it around and went somewhere else. For example
Loved how Lane was a giant sized hero. You don't get a lot of 6'6" heroes. She was tall too and had a bad self image being the youngest of 8 and the only girl. Her brothers had teased her and taken her for granted. She was almost 30 and just wanted a baby. If you don't care for stories about women with baby hunger, this might not be for you. I empathized with her as I remember being in the exact same spot when I was 30. I thought it was realistic in that and in the fact that it is hard for quiet women who are okay looking but not gorgeous to find the right guy since many men seem to go first for the flashy looking girls.
The writing was on the flowery side but it didn't approach purple prosy for me. The writing style was consistent throughout the book. The plot made sense and the story flowed well.

"The Miracle Man" is the story of Lane and Toni.
Toni is the youngest to her 7 older brothers, and living alone after her father passed away 4 months ago. Extremely lonely and despondent, her life takes a turn when one floody night she finds a man washing away, rescues him and later discovers he is US Marshall Lane.
But Toni wants a child, will Lane know he's going to contribute the sperm?
Oh LORD this was so exasperating. The heroine wallowed in self pity throughout the book, despite looking like a supermodel bomb she was under-confident, took abuse from her family and cried and prayed to stars instead of doing ANYTHING about shit.
The hero protected her "honor" and had sex with her after she begged him as a debt. The couple had minimal to no chemistry.
There is some chase and thrilling drama in the last half, and that is followed by more self-deprecation, and finally some acceptance. I didn't like the heroine calling herself horse/moose etc just because she was a BBW, and everyone else supporting it.
Overall, this was just..EGH.

Enjoyable and entertaining. Lane and Toni are great, but the secondary characters kind of pull it together. Love these books.

This is another old book of Sharon Sala's; this is actually a prequel to Penance although they don't have to be read in order.
Well written plot that has a lot of character development for such a short read. When an airplane crashes near a Tennessee farm during a tremendous thunder storm Toni Hatfield is the only person who sees a man floating down a flooded creek holding onto a log. Her rescue and their interaction while he is healing are the basis of this story. But Lane Monday is a US Marshall and his duty isn't complete until he's accounted for all the prisoners who were on the plane. Although this is a great plot and story building, you can easily determine how it will end. But the story between the beginning and the end is a special read.

Loved It
This was better then I thought it would be.
It was sweet funny and just plane good.
She fishes him out of a creak saves his life.
Gets what she so desperately wanted but falls in love with him.

Another winner!
Sharon Sala is a past master at writing romantic suspense. Her characters are as well crafted as her plots. In this book, the lonely and the alone are drawn together and if they are lucky, will find each other.

Let me start out by saying it was an okay read. The beginning was strong, then halfway through it it starts to get annoying. Way to much whining from the H & H. Another factor of the book I didn't like was the fact that she wasn't going to tell the hero about the baby. Sorry, but for me, I hate this... Real life and fiction! I have just seen first hand the damage that does, but this is only my opinion. I did like the fact that both the H & H were not your typical super model types but real life looking. I hope this helps & as always... Happy Reading!

I feel pretty bad that I just recently wrote a review about Sharon Sala writing strong female characters and now I'm DNFing one of her books due to a weak, simpering, wishy-washy heroine. I'll assume it's due to the book being 20 years old, because Sala writes much better main characters these days.
