I found this book in a used book store. I like eco-horror, and nature gone wild stories so this looked perfect. In the small town of Lagoon, people are developing a strange rash on their bodies. There is no treatment, and as the rash progresses they become more and more violent. The book focuses on Fay, the town doctor, and Katie, a local teen. Along with a few others, they investigate what is happening in Lagoon.

The book was an interesting read. I felt that the explanation for what happens is pretty weak. We have no real answers. I wasn't very happy with the ending. A little more closure would be nice.

I love a great eco-horror, and Lagoon had some great ingredients: mutating flora and fauna, infectious humans, small town setting, alien-like cocoons, half-man alien mutants, government conspiracy, and some charming lead characters. But the story was bogged down with way too many characters and useless subplots. The final third was a laborious slog, and a downer to boot. Could’ve been a whole lot more had the story progressed differently.
