Those who serve the Warrior face the harshest of discipline. Trained from a young age to become lethal Hunters, they have no room in their ranks for the weak -- or for those who join them late.
Her entire life, Seniade has felt a bond with the Warrior. Becoming a Hunter ought to be a dream come true. But first she has to prove herself worthy to stay . . . and she might just kill herself trying.
Dancing the Warrior is a standalone novella set before the events of the novels Warrior and Witch, by the author of the acclaimed Memoirs of Lady Trent series.
Marie Brennan is a former anthropologist and folklorist who shamelessly pillages her academic fields for material. She recently misapplied her professors' hard work to Turning Darkness Into Light, a sequel to the Hugo Award-nominated series The Memoirs of Lady Trent. As half of M.A. Carrick, she is also the author of The Mask of Mirrors, first in the Rook and Rose trilogy. For more information, visit swantower.com, Twitter @swan_tower, or her Patreon.
At the risk of voicing a *really* unpopular opinion, I don't really like Miryo, and I'm not even that keen on Mirei - but I'll happily read about Mirage all day. So when I found out there was a prequel I hadn't read (yes, today...) I pounced on it.
Fantastic novella prequel for Warrior and Witch. Senaide's perspective because she becomes Mirage, and getting to see events Mirage and Eclipse mention actually take place.
Please Ms. Brennan, give us more in this world. You said a book needs an engine, and maybe there's not a big enough one for another whole book, but I would love to read another novella. A story from the first boy witch student, something about the doppleganger Hunter school with Mirei as Grandmaster. Anything!
