A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.
While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.
After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.
I read every story! I was riveted from the first chapter in the first book to the epilogue in the last book! I’m going to look for the sequels and other books by the authors.
It would be churlish to give this Box Set of seven SF novels less than five stars collectively. For a start the set was offered for free. I imagine the books were all early works by the different authors. However, I read all seven books. A couple I enjoyed much more than the others, although they all had merit in their own way and would appeal to different readers. The easygoing humour, inventiveness of dialogue and lack of smut was inspiring. Although I have to admit to a bit of page hopping here and there, nor was I keen on the religious theme running through one of the books which limits its audience. Overall a good compilation.
I enjoyed this set of stories, liking some better than other. All were action -packed, had unseen plot twists, and heart-pumping pages and story lines. The science fiction part was well thought out. While several novels had minor punctuation and grammatical errors, the riveting pace, characters, and plot kept me intrigued and fascinated.
Great stories. And the last one…well let’s just say it was an excellent use of the phonetic alphabet and had me laughing to tears more than once.
As a general note, it is too bad that there isn’t a system by which reviews could have been freely associated to the individual published works as I was prepared to do as I finished each of the included stories.
I really enjoyed reading these novels. They were all so good and detailed, full of adventure and romance. My only issue is when you read 7 in a row, I can't remember the individual details for each to write about it in my review. I do know they were very capturing and all I wanted to do was keep reading. I do recommend reading them.
Excellent collection of character- and plot-driven science fiction stories. There's not a bad one in the bunch. This collection did exactly what it should do... encourage me to read other books by these authors.
On the whole I enjoyed this collection. I could see some B action movies here where I would have liked more development of character and concept. I will follow up on some of the authors given the right price.
I already read Archangel Down twice so skipped it. This was my second read of Star Nomad. Love both those books, and also Overload Flux, The Iron Admiral, and The Key. Absolutely fabulous stories by these talented authors.
All the stories in the box set was really good and some I’m even going to try to read on in the series. Recommend this book set but there are cliff hangers.
