Harem of Hearts #2

Allison and the Torrid Tea Party

Rate this book
Holy fucking hearts.
Did you just read that?!
If you did, I need your advice.

I met fallen angel princes; I met a Savage Duke; I met a Cheshire Cat.
And remember—how could you possibly forget—I'm the fabled Alice from the prophecy.
Just a twisted, dark version of the girl in Lewis Carroll's old books.

Except in those books, there was a happy ending.
In those books, Alice wasn't dating nine very different, very beautiful men.
But now that I've met the King of Hearts and the Mad Hatter, I'm not sure who the real bad guys are.

I'm the only one who can turn Underland back into Wonderland again.
But if I have a chance to escape the blood, the death, and the intrigue in this place, should I take it?
I'm Allison Liddell, and I've got a choice to make: stay here and fight the darkness, defeat the Anti-Alice, and survive the Torrid Tea Party ... or run.

Tweedledee says I can change the world.
So if you're reading this, will you help me decide what I should do?
I want to go home, but I can't leave this place as broken as I found it, now can I?

C.M. Stunich is a self-admitted bibliophile with a love for exotic teas and a whole host of characters who live full time inside the strange, swirling vortex of her thoughts. Some folks might call this crazy, but Caitlin Morgan doesn't mind - especially considering she has to write biographies in the third person. Oh, and half the host of characters in her head are searing hot bad boys with dirty mouths and skillful hands (among other things). If being crazy means hanging out with them everyday, C.M. has decided to have herself committed.

She hates tapioca pudding, loves to binge on cheesy horror movies, and is a slave to many cats. When she's not vacuuming fur off of her couch, C.M. can be found with her nose buried in a book or her eyes glued to a computer screen. She's the author of over thirty novels - romance, new adult, fantasy, and young adult included. Please, come and join her inside her crazy. There's a heck of a lot to do there.

Oh, and Caitlin loves to chat (incessantly), so feel free to e-mail her, send her a Facebook message, or put up smoke signals. She's already looking forward to it.

"My Queen of Hearts," the King says, and there's this break in his voice that tells me all I need to know. I was right: I bruised his ego. He fucking wants me, doesn't he? "I told you that you were meant to be mine."
He takes off down the hall before I can figure out a retort.
Doesn't matter anyway, because all I can think to say is: no, you were meant to be mine.

Allison will finally meet the crazy King.

"Did the king order you beheaded?" I ask, narrowing my eyes. I've read the book; I've seen the movie. Isn't that what the Queen of Hearts always says? Off with their heads?
"He said it, but he doesn't mean it," Tee growls as Dee wheels in a cart and heels the door closed with his boot. "He likes our pain and suffering too much to end it."

Still she tries to save the Underland because of the Prophecy.
Still she has loyal men who follow.
Still she is not sure who to trust.
Still she organizes mad tea parties.
Still she is thinking of going back through the Looking-Glass and forget about Underland.

Her all-male harem so far includes:
Dee and Tee the angel princes,
The Red King,
The Cheshire Cat,
The White Rabbit,
The March Hare,
The Mad Hatter,
The Caterpillar,
The Duke of Northumbria.

All of them have special powers and some of them can transform. To be honest I was sometimes lost with all these characters.
And everything is weird and weirder than the first book which I think that I liked more because it was based on an original idea.
In Allison and the Torrid Tea Party everything and everyone are weird for the shake of being weird without making much sense. That is the reason it took me almost one month to finish the book.

I believe I will read next book soon.

Okay, I'll start by saying that this is the first book in a very long time that I will rate and review even though it's not a 4 or 5 star recommend. Why? Because I'm annoyed af.

Listen, when I pick out a fantasy or paranormal book I am not looking for the author's political views from today's world. A Trump joke just doesn't belong there. If I agree with her is not the issue. Leave it out of the damn book!

I loved book one. Was so excited for book two and waited patiently as we were told over and over a release date was scheduled only for it to...not. I won't badly review the actual story but it officially has way too many characters. I love RH. One of my fav themes but this was too difficult to keep up with.

But the political issue is another thing. You want to use your platform to speak your view then do it from your FB...like everyone else. And whatever other outlets you have. Don't intrude on my escape with that unwelcome bullshit. Or at least give me warning that I won't be interested, seeing as I'm looking for fiction.

If I wanted political arguments and jokes crammed down my throat I'd stay on FB but unfortunately this author has decided to bring it to her books as well which means I won't be reading her any longer. The same would go for any viewpoint in any book, fyi.

Disappointed. Dnf@24%

I really enjoyed this book much more than the first one. The world the author manipulated is extremely well done and everything is described perfectly. I loved the inner thoughts of Allison and every time she cursed and called someone a various slew of “[insert curse word] waffle” she worked her way into my heart. I laughed more than I normally do reading this book and it was just a lot of fun. Naughty fun, I mean obviously right, the prophecy states she’ll have nine mates. On that note I still struggled a bit with separating them all in my head. It didn’t helped that a few of them were called a similar type name so like La and Ra. I think I finally got them all straight I just hated having to stop and remember who was who while I was listening to the audiobook. I liked getting to know the guys more and at this point the only one I really don’t like is the King but neither does Allison much lol. I loved the part about the Torrid Tea Party and how it was basically the Underland version of Truth or Dare where partners actually take truth serum in their tea so they can’t lie or avoid answering. It’s crazy how f*cked up these character get and I mean that literally with all the various drugs they’re on. It’s amazing they get anything done especially the Hatter, nothing seems to slow him down but I’m going to assume that’s his vampire side at work. The book ended right in the middle of a fight and I’m dying to see how things will turn out. Looking forward to their HEA and the culmination of The Alice returning them to Wonderland.

Really Enjoyed this!

This series is more than I expected. There’s more story here, this book is meatier. More about the world, the Alice history. Still twisted dark, funny, and sexy, but with a real journey/adventure. Looking forward to the next one!

Wawwwwww what the heck how can this author just leave me on a cliffhanger like this and dayum there was a lot of twists I defintely did not see coming.

Like oh my god I’m in LOVEEEEEEEE with this series I can’t believe I’m now on the last one I’m kind of dreading reading it cause I don’t want it to end.

But can I say hot frickin dayum these men UMMMMMM EXCUSE ME how can you make such characters and not expect me not to cry over them because they aren’t frickin real.

Because CHESH, RAB, TEE, DEE, NORTH, LAR, HATTER and the frickin KING OF HEARTS is honestly something else these men are sexy, possessive, hot and aghhhh their banters like dude nooo I can’t take it.

Man Allison is lucky to be able to fulfill the prophecy of marrying nine sexy hot as hell men like girl can we lowkey switch places plzzz 😩😭

The only thing is I’m still kind of confused on is who the ninth man is because I have a feeling it might be MARCH HARE but I’m not sure just have to wait and see but I love this series and definitely the first two books got five out of five stars from me let’s see how the third one will do and how the story ends.🥰🥰❤️❤️😘😘🥵🥵

■I absolutely loved this trilogy. Allison-who-isnt-alice was badass, sassy, strong, feisty and really fantastic to read from!! The sexual tension & banter between the characters was off the chart and I was amazed at how well each character was so fleshed out. I was so worried their would be to many guys and I wouldn't get that connection I need but I was wrong I got it and more!! I went from hating a certain characters from the start to begging to have them for myself by the end. My favorites will always be tee & dee and I've claimed them as my own. I haven't read the original alice so I don't know how this compares but for my dark heart this is the version I choose to love. I couldn't put these books down and when I did I day dreamed about how the characters looked 🙈 it took me 24hrs to read the series and I don't regret a minute of it!! Absolutely awesome and totally weird AF🖤🖤🖤🖤

Curiouser and curiouser

Thia book had a lot going on and it was a lot of fun. Allison is snarky and funny and I like being in her head. She can't stop having naughty thoughts about her 9 men and they're pretty bad themselves! I enjoy seeing Allison get closer to the guys, especially Tee and Dee, who are my favorite twins in Underland. I have to get to the last book to see what happens! There's so much craziness right now. This kept a good pace and the characters are well done.

Omg I’m so in love with this series and the characters. I’ve been waiting to read this book and I am 100% not disappointed. CM has a way of making me feel like I am experiencing everything that the characters are feeling and I wish I could be Allison lol. Allison isn’t sure if she should stay or leave Underland, the more she is there, the more she gets attached to her 9. Truly love Alice in Wonderland and I absolutely love CM’s spin on this classic. Tee & Dee I absolutely love and North ugh love him, and of course the others I’m loving as well. Truly an amazing read that everyone should one click. Amazing characters, amazing story that will have you hooked from page 1. I can’t wait too read the next book in this series.

This series has been just what I needed this week: strange, campy, sexy, action-packed, and full of muchness. Yesterday marked the end of my 2018/2109 school year. I’ll be spending the first day of summer, as usual, deep in a book. I will, however, not be reading the book I planned to start today, because the Torrid Tea Party ended on a cliffhanger.

And I see no way out of the terrifying predicament in which Allison and her motley band of Underland boys have found themselves.
And that is not ok.
And I must know what happens next.

So, I’m off to download Allison Shatters the Looking-Glass to start my summer off right.

Cheers!

Yeah, I’m gonna have to continue to take off a star for how much Allison annoys me 🙄. She’s nonsensically obstinate towards just about everything, ESPECIALLY her guys, and REFUSES to actually share who she really is with them. Even with Dee and Tee, who are such sweethearts and have been there for her since the beginning, she thinks about “love” ONE time and goes “ew, no way” 😐😠. It doesn’t feel like she’s being fair to any of them (only antagonizing them), and poor Chesh! He just wants to love on her and she keeps shooting him down for no good reason ☹️.

Anyways, rant aside, I still don’t love the narrators, but I am DEFINITELY invested in all of the men, so I’m gonna be finishing this series for sure 👍🏼 🫡.

Ahhhh, I enjoyed this one so much! Obviously I’m jumping right into book three right now.

I still love Tee and Dee so much, but the Cheshire Cat is seriously growing on me and the fact that Allison keeps rejecting him makes me a little sad. :(

Also the King of Hearts is a little bit of a dick, but I get the impression that he has a lot of feelings deep down. I just want him to show Allison some love.

I’m ready for her to claim all nine guys already, let’s go. This better be in the next book. ;)

Update 10-14

I added an extra star because I did enjoy the book after finally getting to read it. I won't raise it any higher though due to the author's conduct during this whole thing. I feel like I couldn't fully enjoy it because of the residual frustration I had and a lot of the excitement had faded away by this point.

Reading her dedication, it's pretty obvious she doesn't want to own up to her part in why she was getting so much hate. Most of us had just hit a breaking point after constantly being promised release dates only to be left disappointed time and time again. Not to mention having to be part of her stupid facebook group to get ANY updates at all. Don't want to join? You're outta luck then. Better hope people feed you table scraps other ways.

It almost feels like she was just trying to keep it relevant in a way.

Let me quickly compare her to another author I really enjoy that was supposed to release a new book this year. She posted on her website that it's been a rough time and while she's still working on it, it probably won't happen this year.

See the difference?

She simply leaves it at it's being worked on. She doesn't give a new release date or make any false promises. I don't feel let down because there isn't anything for me to be let down by. That's a tasteful way of handling setbacks as a writer.

Now about the actual book. There were quite a few errors for having supposedly gone through an editor. Not enough to really distract from what was going on but enough that whoever looked it over might need to be talked to. The constant use of !? to end sentences got old quickly and is kind of tacky in my opinion.

Overall, I'm probably going to finish the series only because I've gotten this far but I doubt I'll read anything else by the author. My hand was bitten once and I've learned my lesson.

••••••••
First of all, I get that she was sick. It happens and isn't something she could control.

What she can control, however, is constantly teasing release dates without following through. First it was only going to be a few weeks and then it was mid June then mid July then early August then mid August and now early September. Not to mention the post to Facebook with no apology or explanation when it didn't happen, leaving readers that don't follow her stupid group in the dark. I don't think it was even her that explained what originally happened with the release but another author that she works with.

If you aren't a 1000% percent sure it's ready for release, don't play your readers! Especially when it's a book that was supposed to be released six months ago!

Most people will be understanding if you say you're working on it. But constantly getting hopes up only to be disappointed- again- gets real old real fast. Had I known it was going to be like this, I would have never bought the first book. And to think there's supposed to be a third book. Will we have to go through this whole song and dance again? Do I really want to?

Honestly I have never seen an author handle a situation so poorly. At this point, I'm taking her word with a grain of salt and can't help but doubt that the book will even be released.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I loved this book with all my being, I love how they add new characters but at the same time they don't neglect the dynamics of the previous ones, I love how the story and the main conflict unfolds.

The ending leaves you wanting more and I can't wait to read it and see what closure they give to this trilogy that I love.

“If you think tea parties are for the boring and bland, read a page out of this series.” -nerdywordyreviews

*check triggers before reading this Dark, Twisted, Alice in Wonderland Retelling* (Dark Why Choose style Romance)

This series is captivating and so very dark. The world building is amazing, full of details so vibrant, it’s easy to picture in your mind.

The story is filled with morally grey characters and situations. Dark, dirty, naughty and dangerous. Why choose?

The dialogue of Allison is what I would expect from one her age placed into this world of chaos. Also, the dialogue of those within the story are true to their character. Some funny, some crazy and all a little spicy!

Again, the imagination that went into this retelling is over the top, chaotic and fun to read.

Onto book 3!

I am so easily entertained by anything remotely similar to all of the cliche tropes in this book. However apparently I hate when main characters break the fourth wall repeatedly and unnecessarily. I loved the premise of the book and the plot was even pretty well done by there was just a lot of weak points in the writing. I think I’m starting to understand show me don’t tell me writing. Here are some quotes that piss me off because of the way they’re written.

‘She pushes between me and tee, her lackeys…. I mean *husbands* trailing along behind her.’
I don’t even know why this was bad j just know there was a better way to say it.

‘I’ll see when I meet the king, huh? Yeah right if these are just the courtiers then I’m sure the king is a nightmare.’
Huh? I who the fuck thinks that to themselves?

‘Oh. They don’t like seeing how princely and perfect their slave really is, do they? Too damn bad.’
Stop. With. The. Rhetorical. Questions. To. Yourself.

‘Yes, I am a very classy girl. Cue eye roll.’
I mean genuinely just what the fuck? I will admit to having very long conversations with myself. However, not once have I narrated an action before I did it.

‘Never mind. My anger is not mollified. I’m still irritated, but also….. I think he’s cute, too. Damn my girlish hormones.’
I think I just traumatized myself by having to write that. Yes she’s only 18 but not only has she suffered severe trauma which is bound to harden and mature anyone really quickly but I guarantee not once in the history of ever has a woman gone “damn my girlish hormones”.

Speaking of trauma this girl has been through the wringer and yet her trauma is only relevant when it somehow drives the plot. And it’ll go a long time without being mentioned or even thought about and then suddenly she’s having flashbacks. And yes I understand that trauma can be reduced over time through proper treatment a whatnot. But this girl has received nada, zilch, nothing. And somehow she’s only traumatized at inopportune moments and when the bad guys are getting under her skin. Mostly it was just presented in a way that every once in a while the author seemed to remember “oh yeah she’s traumatized, gotta write that in somewhere”

And I couldn’t find the quoteagain so I’m paraphrasing but: ‘I guess we all have stuff to work on. Sue me.’
How bout I deck you in the face?

Anyways moral of the story I hate rhetorical questions when the main character is thinking them to herself. The word huh. Lots of ……… dot dot dots. Girlish hormones. And unrealistic traumaaaaaaaa. Oh and also the badass mc heroine that’s only badass when there’s nothing important happening.
Thank you and goodnight.
