Lisa Harris has quickly been climbing her way up my top favorite suspense authors list, and with the 300-plus page Deadly Intentions, I think she has made it to my top five!

Harris tackles some very difficult topics in her newest release from Revell, including the loss of a spouse and loved one, abuse, betrayal, and more. I applaud her not only for attempting to take on these topics, but for doing it so well. From the prologue, the reader can't help but be sucked into the emotions of the story. I think a lot of books in this genre can forget to include the emotional and psychological impact of the hard events the story touches upon, and the emotional aspect gets lost. But this book ends up being very emotive as Harris dives deep into some tough situations. Detective Josh Solomon and research scientist Caitlyn Lindsey are both very real characters who are dealing with some real-life issues, which instantly makes them so relatable.

Any good suspense novel has many twists and turns, but Harris takes it to a new level with Deadly Intentions. My expectations were turned on their head about a quarter of the way through, and the book continues in that vein with smaller twists throughout the remainder of the story. This one definitely keeps you on your toes!

All in all, this story is a wild ride from page one! If you are a fan of romantic suspense (lighter on the romance than suspense) with lots of twists and emotion, I highly recommend checking out Deadly Intentions!

This book was amazing. It had action, suspense, romance, and so much mystery. I was on my toes trying to figure out who did it the entire time.

The plot thickens throughout this entire book and had my heart thumping like crazy. I probably had an adrenaline rush once or twice while reading. The plot twists in this book made my heart twist. Some were very painful to read and I wanted to jump into this book and yell at a few people.

The characters were amazing and I loved getting to know them. Josh and Caitlyn were the perfect characters for their roles. Ms. Harris hit the right personalities on the head. If either character had a different personality, the book would have been totally different.

This was a unique suspense novel. I am newer into the suspense genre but I have yet to read a book with a plot - or even plot twists - like this book had. The ride I went on is one that I would love to go on again.

This was my first book that I've read by Lisa Harris but I hope it will not be my last. I highly enjoyed this fast paced, suspense. I cannot wait to see what other works Ms. Harris has!

This was a fast-paced story, with the romance woven right into the action. Tension stayed high with quite a few twists along the way. Ties to the past, and a need to step into the future were clear as well.

While very different from past Lisa Harris suspense books—the ones that deal with drug trafficking and like her prior release, cybersecurity—this one dealt with bioweapons and it was very interesting. I’ll admit that some of the science parts lost me, but it wasn’t often, so kudos to the author for making it pretty simple and easy to understand.
Personally, it wasn’t as exciting to me as “A Secret to Die For”, the author’s prior book, but I did love Caitlin’s last name (😉) and that it was set in Texas. This novel starts hard and deals with some real-life unpleasantness, but it was very interesting. I don’t think the plot was my favorite by Lisa Harris (including all the mentions of affairs/a mistress), but I’m curious to learn more about her next book.

Deadly Intentions by Lisa Harris is a romantic suspense novel.
“There is no such thing as random.”
I would add there is no such thing as coincidence!
Caitlyn Lindsay might have suspicions about the death of three colleagues at MedTECH labs. But what was really the cause of their deaths and why? When she fears for her life, she turns to Detective Josh Solomon, the husband of one of the victims. Can they figure out what is going on before they, too, are silenced?
This was a very suspenseful novel with lots of twists and turns. It kept me guessing until the end. Ms. Harris really knows how to put her characters in jeopardy. An exciting and fast read because I wanted to discover what happened next. Her experience as a victim of a home invasion lends credibility to her writing.
The faith thread, though minimal, gave a very good quote of Caitlyn’s thoughts near the end. “She’d struggled understanding the love of her heavenly Father and had finally come to realize that it wasn’t based on what she did but on what he’d already done for her. The one true sacrificial love.” I wish we could have seen the characters voice their faith a bit more.
This was not my favorite book by Ms. Harris, I questioned the actions of the characters a time or two. Still it had a provocative premise and was a riveting story. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Riveting, fast paced suspense fills the newest novel by Lisa Harris. I couldn't put it down and wondered what could possibly happen to Joshua and Caitlyn next. Joshua Solomon is a Houston PD Detective, and Caitlyn Lindsey is a researcher at a medical company that creates and produces vaccines. They connect when Caitlyn approaches Joshua after deaths of 3 researchers, including Solomon's wife, seem suspicious to her and appear interconnected to a project dubbed Starlighter.

Deadly Intentions has all the characteristics of great Christian Romantic Suspense: complex characters, an engaging plot, and lots of twists and turns. The relationship between Joshua and Caitlyn was caring and supportive. They both were after the same goal no matter what terror they encountered (and boy was there plenty of it). Both were methodical and persistant making them a good team to solve this twisted puzzle.

This is a book you will find hard to put down as it will keep you frozen to the pages until you have finally uncovered the culprits.

I received an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

Detective Josh Solomon is still mourning his late wife Olivia, whose death was a result of a home invasion gone bad. Or so he thought. When one of Olivia's former co-workers approaches Josh with her suspicions about other deaths, Josh realizes that Olivia's death may not have been random at all.

Wow, this book was BORING. It had a great premise and started off with a bang with a prologue that hit the ground running. I was so excited! Then the writing goes downhill. In chapter 1 we are introduced to Caitlyn. How does author Lisa Harris manage to make the action seem too fast and too slow (and never just right) at the same time? Caitlyn gets run off the road immediately after asking questions at a coworker's funeral. I found this part annoyingly unrealistic. If you really had an evil conglomerate of people needing to keep things quiet, they wouldn't be so obvious. This action is what I mean by "too fast" -- it shouldn't have taken place so soon. But then after this incident all action comes to a screeching halt as Caitlyn thinks about what to do and finally settles on telling Josh. And the entire time she and Josh meet and discuss plans of action, there is absolutely zero action -- all talk. Hence my comment about "too slow."

What I found incredibly frustrating was that there is an inordinate amount of conversation between Caitlyn and Josh with NO plot advancement. The reader is already aware of everything Josh knows, as well as everything Caitlyn knows. So when Caitlyn and Josh get together and have to catch each other up, the author should have just covered that with a simple "They got each other up to speed over coffee." Instead, Harris rehashes EVERYTHING by painstakingly having Caitlyn and Josh explain everything to each other -- everything that the reader already knows and doesn't want to hear again. Good grief. Let's get on with the plot already. There's no need to rehash everything.

By page 65 (the start of chapter 7), I'd given up on the book because it wasn't getting any more interesting. I was bored out of my mind. At this point I started skimming in an attempt to finish the book somehow. Also, Josh's budding attraction to Caitlyn turned me off. His wife had just died a few months ago -- and violently, too, so I would have expected Josh to still be grieving and needing closure before developing feelings for another woman. By page 98 (the start of chapter 11), I gave up entirely and stopped reading. I couldn't stand it anymore; I was so bored. Mind you, this book was 297 pages long, so I got through only 1/3 of it. There's no way I was going to subject myself to 200 more pages.

Also, this book was not promoted as Christian fiction, and it should have been. (In fact, the back cover shows the category to be simply Romantic Suspense, and that is misleading.) Not being familiar with author Lisa Harris, I assumed the book was standard mystery thriller/romantic suspense fare. So I was taken aback when all of a sudden Caitlyn invokes God. This was a huge turnoff. I don't think it is necessary to include these random mentions of God and church in a book of this genre. It feels gratuitous. And not making it clear that this is Christian fiction feels deceptive on the part of the author's marketing team.

"Deadly Intentions" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. The main characters acted realistically and were likable, kind, and courageous. They worked well together and both valued helping others. I understood why they were attracted to each other as they spent time together. The suspense came from people trying to kill Caitlyn and from Josh not being certain of who he can trust since it seemed like someone in the police department was working against him.

The mystery was interesting, but it seemed like the details about how the deadly virus worked kept changing. I expected the dispersal method to be one way, but then suddenly it seemed to work a different way, which I found confusing. And it's still not clear to me how the main bad guy even heard about the virus being available. I also wondered why Caitlyn and Josh didn't do more to disguise their appearance (hair styles, etc.) since they could have.

There were no sex scenes, but the main characters do walk in on a man in bed with his mistress. There was no bad language.

Don’t get too comfortable, you are about to begin an amazing journey, one that will have you gripping the edges of this book.
From one page to the next you will not see most of the action coming, or whom to trust, and the surprises abound as we attempt to get answers.
The book starts out with a murder, and evil is being perpetrated throughout this read, and we don’t know who to turn to. When past hurts and betrayals flaunt their ugly heads, our girl is not able to open her heart, but Caitlyn needs help and turns to Josh one of the victim’s husbands and a police detective. Can they work together and stop the senseless murder of innocents?
This become a read that you need to get the last page for answers, and find the path to justice is full of deep pot holes.

This book is pretty much a non-stop action ride full of twists, turns and surprises. It's an quick and easy read as I read it in less than a day. I enjoyed the characters of Caitlyn and Josh. They were easy to like and their banter gave a bit of levity to the mystery they are trying desperately to unravel. The book flowed well and quickly and was mostly easy to follow(I had a bit of trouble with the sciency parts but I understood enough to get the basic idea). I didn't like a couple of the plot twists which docked my rating a bit, but it's a good solid suspense read and I look forward to more from Lisa in the future.

Deadly Intentions

*REVIEW* 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Lisa Harris is new to me, and I like her writing style. This story really packs a punch. It's action from start to finish with a compelling premise. I was surprised by how twisty the story actually was. I thought I had something figured out, but I didn't. The main characters are complex and have a great dynamic throughout. They are flawed but likeable and entertaining. I enjoyed this one overall and recommend for action romance readers. I will be reading more from this author.

I really should stop reading suspenseful books after midnight, shouldn’t I?!

Well, anyway, this book kept me up until well into the morning, and man was it good!

Dealing with topics I don’t normally see in fiction I liked finding out more about the characters and what they do.

The suspense was SPOT ON, keeping me turning the page desperate to find out what had happened.

The plot took me on twists and turns through things I didn’t expect and some I did, but I didn’t call most or everything.

The side characters were just as interesting as the main characters, and I enjoyed the ending.

I am looking forward to more from Lisa Harris.

From the beginning, Deadly Intentions kept me engaged and riveted to turn the page to keep following Josh Solomon and Caitlyn Lindsey as they raced against time to find out why Josh's wife may have been murdered, as well, as Caitlyn's colleagues. There was a little romance thrown in between the main characters and it was just a delight to read from beginning to the conclusion.

“Let me show you how to love and how to be loved. I want to be that person who wakes up beside you every morning, who does the laundry with you, takes out the trash, and builds a home and a family with you.”.

Lisa Harris never fails to amaze me with her high-intensity, adrenaline-fueled, action-packed plots and beautifully crafted characters racing against time and enemies to find the solution to a looming threat. Deadly Intentions starts out with a gasp-inducing prologue and the heart-pounding action doesn’t stop until the very end.

Josh, a homicide detective and a recent widower, is dedicated, loyal, and trust-worthy with a straight and narrow view of justice. When Caitlyn, his murdered wife’s friend and colleague, approaches him with a different viewpoint of why his wife may have been killed, his world is thrown off-course. Caitlyn is an intelligent, compassionate, and dedicated scientist who works at a vaccine laboratory but looking for clues as to why several of her colleagues have died recently with sketchy explanations. When they’re both targeted and become victims of violence, they dig deeper to put together the puzzle pieces they hold.
If you enjoy a fast-paced, well-written romantic suspense, you will definitely love this book.

" She had learned to put her faith in a God she knew she could trust. But there were still times - like today - that holding on to her faith felt more like she was lost in the pounding waves."

Suspicions surround the random deaths of lab scientist Caitlyn Lindsey's co-workers. She does not believe that her three co-workers died in the manner in which police have determined; each of them dropping subtle hints before their demise about a research project that wasn't going according to protocol. When her own life is threatened, Caitlyn decides to compile her theories and ask for help, but who can she trust?

Police detective Josh Solomon is slowly putting the pieces of his life back together following the brutal murder of his wife. When one of Olivia's co-workers frantically reaches out for his help, old wounds are opened, but new probabilities suddenly take flight. What Caitlyn Lindsey believes really happened makes a great deal of sense, but who will believe them and at what cost to themselves, their careers, and unpredictably to their hearts?

A really nicely paced suspense, with simmering romance and a ready supply of confusing possibilities.

Deadly Intentions was an intense read! I was pulled into the story from the first few pages on - it was so good!

I really liked the characters and how the romance progressed...it wasn't too fast and seemed natural. The suspense was good and fast-paced. I wanted to keep reading to find out what was really going on and how things would end.

All in all, Deadly Intentions was a really good read. The ending was nice, although a little predictable. Recommend for fans of romantic suspense.

My Thoughts:

This book had me captivated from the beginning. I was enthralled with it. Caitlyn wants answers. Josh feels that there's more to his wife's death than what was official. As the two kept finding more and more clues that point to murder, the book kept getting better and better. I didn't have any suspicions as to who was the master mind, so it came as a complete shock when I found out. I look forward to more by this author.

Fantastic storytelling! Page-turning suspense right from the beginning. The characters leap off the page and you feel like you really know them. Caitlyn and Josh are embroiled in a mystery that will plunge them into more danger than they ever imagined. This is one book that I could not put down.

Thought it was interesting and clever. Not poorly written, but not great. Not overly Christian-y. Clean and no cussing. Which I liked.

Didn’t really like the ending as it seemed to just fizzle out. Plus some relationship stuff I found tedious

After the deaths of three of her co-workers, Caitlyn Lindsey begins to think that something may be going on behind the scenes at her employer, MedTech Labs. After asking some questions and getting run off the road, Caitlyn takes a risk by reaching out to a detective by the name of Josh Solomon, who also happens to be the widow of one of the dead employees. It’s up to her to convince him that his wife was murdered by someone she worked with, while also trying to stay alive. In a search for the truth, she will have to break some rules. Will she be able to live with herself when it’s all over?

Lisa Harris has slowly crept into my list of “must read everything they write” authors. I knew I liked her writing, but this book really blew me away. I put it down this morning and am still reeling from all of the twists and turns. I’m feeling emotionally exhausted, but in a good way! This is exactly the kind of book hangover I hope to have from a good Christian suspense novel. You know deep down that everything is going to work out in the end, but Harris had a way of throwing in just one more twist that made you think “this is the book that won’t have a happy ending.” Her quick but profound way of developing the characters leaves you feeling like you’re rooting for old friends as they embark on a mission for their lives. Anything but predictable, this book will have you at the edge of your seat and turning pages as fast as you can.

I would definitely recommend this book to my friends who love suspense. The faith issues in this story are realistic and captivating but not preachy or pushy. There is often a delicate balance when characters are put into hard situations, and I felt like Harris managed the believability of faith and fear/turmoil very well.

Whoa...whoa...WHOA! Deadly Intentions is a thrill-of-a-lifetime read that makes breathing hard and not skimming ahead even harder. There's tension galore and an impossible mystery to solve...while trying to stay alive! And I love that the slow build romance is anchored in some solid groundwork. Add in the touches of humour in the midst of the chaos and we have all the elements I absolutely adore in a romantic suspense.

And the combination of this hero and heroine? Wow! Caitlyn -- totally out of her element but determined to uncover the truth. She's scared out of her wits half the time but she has a plucky streak that sees her through and impresses Josh no end. He's the honourable grieving widower. A dedicated detective who has buried himself in work after his wife's violent death. Even after a year, he hasn't been able to let go of the nagging doubts about the supposedly solved case. Things turn explosive when these two team up! Nail-biting and toe-curling along with a healthy dose of yearning on my part. My heart about hammered out of my chest for the duration of the read.

I listened to the audible version, narrated by Kate Forbes and it was excruciatingly good. It's such sweet agony to be at the mercy of a narrator's pacing. There were so many times I wanted to gallop ahead because I just had to know what happened. Could we really trust that person? How could this be happening at the halfway point? How on earth will I be able to survive another three hours of not knowing? This book held me hostage until the very last word!

Whew! I haven't gotten that emotionally involved (read: angry) since Terri Blackstock's If I Run series!!! Man oh man, my heart needs time to calm down.

Caitlyn Lindsey is starting to get suspicious. After the death of a coworker, she starts asking questions and apparently someone doesn't like it. Needing help, she turns to detective Josh Solomon, who has his own personal stake in what is going on.

What got me is that this scenario is so realistic. It actually goes on and I absolutely hate when the good guys are getting blamed for things! Makes me so mad! So Harris did a good job of getting me attached to the characters and rooting for them.! You get to a point where you question if everyone will make it out alive. I even got suspicious of one of the good guys!

An excellent story!

Deadly intentions by Lisa Harris is a fantastic thriller. It reads like one of my favourite TV crime shows, with just the right amount of action, intrigue, nail-biting they’re-not-going-to-get-out-of-this-alive tension, and just a touch of romance.

Caitlin knows something is wrong in the research science lab where she works. Three people have died in apparently unrelated ways, yet now, with the last death and the sharing of a secret, Caitlin suspects there is more to the deaths. But someone is following her and if she can’t discover who is behind the deaths, own life may be in danger. Unsure what else to do, Caitlin turns to Detective Josh Solomon, husband of the first victim. But if they are going to work together, she’ll have to convince him she’s right about her theories first.

Deadly Intentions is a thoroughly enjoyable book. I loved the action, loved the mystery and the race to not only find the killers but prove innocent Josh and Caitlin. The mystery storyline is twofold, with both murders and the threat of a biological weapon to uncover. It’s a complex and quick-moving plot, with plenty of suspects and reason to doubt everyone.

Lisa Harris’s writing style is immediately captivating and places the readers in the heads and hearts of her two main characters. Josh and Caitlin make a great team. They have a nice chemistry and they tag team in the investigation really well. I loved that Caitlin comes from outside the detective/police work world, yet her research background makes her a good investigative partner. While there is some romance between them, their attraction simmers in the background of the story. I actually really liked that they take their time to admit this to each other and consider the implications.

I highly recommend Deadly Intentions and I look forward to reading more of Lisa Harris’s titles.

Research scientist Caitlyn Lindsey has begun to suspect that someone is slowly picking off her team members, her hunch is solidified when she barely survives a hit and run. She goes with her suspicions to her late team member and friend's widow, Detective Josh Solomon.

Pressure builds as they get closer to the truth, tables turned and they find themselves fighting for their own innocence. Can Josh and Caitlyn work together to stop a weapon of biological warfare?

Josh has been widowed for over a year now, he jumps at the chance to go after his late wife's killers after Caitlyn comes to him with her suspicions. He quick thinking and cool under pressure, he is dedicated to his job to uphold justice. He is noble and brave, risking it all to keep Caitlyn safe.

Caitlyn had a tough childhood, and never really pursued having a relationship despite her friends trying to set her up. She came to faith through a friend inviting her to church, and has held fast to her beliefs through difficult times. She is very intelligent, with a gift for deductive reasoning.

A stand alone thriller from Lisa Harris, engaging and intense, easy to follow, and full of action, this book was one that I didn't want to put down. Josh and Caitlyn are strong Christians, and lean on their faith to get them through. Filled with twists, and surprising turns, this story did not disappoint. Edge of your seat drama, excellent plotting that had me wondering how they would ever make their way out. You won't want to miss this suspenseful, heart pounding read!

Another powerful romantic suspense novel by Lisa Harris! Caitlyn Lindsey has just attended her 3rd funeral in a year, and though all of the deaths have been different and seemingly not related, she can't help feeling that there's something there. When she starts asking questions and finds her car being run off the road, she knows she's onto something. As someone who's always had to be independent, she's uncertain where to turn in order to get the answers and stay one step ahead of the killer. She takes a chance on Josh Solomon, whose wife was the first to die. As the 2 work together to figure out who is behind the murders and why, they aren't sure who to trust. Will they be able to get the answers they need before the killers find them?

This book hit the ground running and just didn't let up. I had no idea what was going to happen next or how they would get out of the jam they found themselves in by simply asking questions. The plot-line was realistic, the action was intense and the romance was unexpected (for the characters, not necessarily for the reader). The faith thread was subtle, but definitely present as both main characters cried to God in the depths of their despair. The characters were well developed and likable - I enjoyed getting their back-stories as well, and the relationships realistic. The action and suspense were interwoven all the way through. This was definitely a 5 star read! I would strongly recommend to readers who enjoy Christian or even clean romantic suspense.

Special thanks to the author for an advanced copy of this book. I was under no obligation to write a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

In her latest romantic suspense, Lisa Harris takes readers on a hang-on-tight and buckle-your-seatbelt read that will keep you guessing how deep the conspiracy goes.

Caitlyn is smart and she’s got questions someone doesn’t like her asking. With nowhere else to turn, she meets Detective Josh Solomon and tells him she believes someone other than the two men convicted murder his wife a year ago.

The action is intense and kept me wondering (more so than even the characters at points in the story) who Caitlyn and Josh could trust. The pacing is done well with dangerous situations popping up just after readers catch their breath from the latest discovery or close call.

I appreciated that Caitlyn and Josh already knew each other when they’re thrown together in a race for truth and fight for their lives. The romance may seem abrupt but I saw the slow build to the climax of that part of this romantic suspense.

Deadly Intentions is a quick read because, once you start, you’re not going to want to put the book down.

DEADLY INTENTIONS, is I think, the first book by Ms. Harris I've read, but I may be wrong. She is definitely a very talented author and has written a suspenseful book about bioterrorism. Something I know nothing about. Or very little.

Some of the events seemed rather implausible. Such as, she attends a funeral for a co-worker, mentions how odd it seems that all her coworkers are dying from random causes and then suddenly she has an attack on her life and is left for dead.

Maybe due to the scientific mindset of the female lead (which seemed realistic), I had a hard time relating to her and couldn't identify with her. I also had a hard time caring for her. I loved Josh though and my heart ached for him. However, the suspense was top-notch, there were plenty of unexpected twists, and I was kept guessing. I never did guess who-dun-it until it was revealed.

If you like romantic suspense with a bioterrorism bend, then you'll want to read DEADLY INTENTIONS. I wouldn't say it kept me on the edge of my seat but it did keep me guessing.

I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

Can they trust anyone around them?

I think I probably say this with every Lisa Harris book that I read, but, I will say it again. I think Deadly Intentions is my favorite one so far. I loved it! It was tense. It was riveting. It was gripping. It was action-packed romantic suspense at its best!

There are some books that are impossible to put down, Deadly Intentions was one of those. Seemingly ripped from today's headlines this story of danger and betrayal was as relevant as it was entertaining. Seriously, if you want to sleep tonight, don't read this chillingly plausible story right before bed....or at least leave your light on...

Lisa Harris is one of my all-time favorite romantic suspense authors and she just seems to get better and better with each new release. Deadly Intentions is a perfect example of that fact. If you love a story with equal amounts of danger, intrigue, and romance, with a faith perspective, I would highly recommend Lisa Harris's latest novel...

Deadly Intentions is a masterful Christian romantic suspense novel by one of the best, Lisa Harris.
After three of her coworkers die protecting a top-secret project, Caitlyn Lindsey contacts the detective-husband of one of the victims, Josh Solomon. What could be so important people were expendable to keep it hidden, and who can be trusted to help the fleeing couple as they search for evidence?
This book rates right up there with the chillers and thrillers. I love the touch of bioterrorism, the medical explanations that are simple enough for a layman to understand, and the absolute terror element without venturing into the horror genre. I love how Harris weaves in the faith component. It is clear, timely, very apropos, and short, not preachy.
Because of the compelling nature of Ms. Harris’s writing, I was able to read this book through in 5 to 6 hours, at one sitting. Whew! That’s all the excitement I can handle at one time!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. This does not affect my opinions, which are solely my own.

Having read books by Lisa Harris in the past, I have first-hand experience with how well she can tell a story. This one grabbed my attention from the first page with an interesting plot that was different from any I have read in the past.

Lisa definitely knows how to increase the level of tension, so that I have a hard time putting her books down. I can read one of them in only a few days because I’m not getting anything else done! Her characters leap off the pages, and I honestly feel as if I know them. I really like the main characters in this book, and I lovd how the author had them grow closer as the book went on. I also can emphasize with how they felt about the difficult situation they found themselves in, because through Lisa’s words, I have a really good sense of how their circumstances affect them.

This is Christian fiction at its best with characters who rely on God. I also love that it is a clean book. 5 stars all the way!
