Fear, anxiety, and stress motivate us more than we realize. Our need to control situations can leave us feeling overwhelmed. But God has given us a biblical strategy to battle anxiety, stress, and panic. With practical and activating steps, Dawna De Silva, founder and coleader of the International Bethel Sozo Ministry, shows you how to
· identify the fears, patterns, and lies that harm your connection with God · resist fear by taking ownership over its influence · find healing and liberation through the Word and the Spirit
When you master power, love, and self-discipline, you will elevate yourself above the enemy's attacks and be released from fear into abundant, healthy living. You will experience the true healing that can come only from God.
I had a dream I was in a library picking up Dawna De Silva books to read. In real life I have read all of her books except this one, so when I woke up I immediately got this book and started it. Every chapter was soooo life giving and just what I needed for this season. 5 stars! I love Dawna’s wisdom and revelation!
A book that inspires freedom and greater communion with Holy Spirit. The activation portion of each chapter immensely blessed me. Breaking off lies of the enemy felt extremely practical with the prompts offered + scripture Dawna points to. I will pick this book up again and again when I start to recognize bad “spices” I’ve picked back up in my life.
This took me a while to get through as I got sidetracked early in the year. De Silva’s teaching here distills many of the core principles of Sozo ministry in the context of addressing fear in our lives. She uses the example of ingredients in a recipe to describe the way certain fruits of the Spirit balance and complement each other. The three fruits she identifies as most important to combating fear are: power, love, and self-discipline/self-control based on 2 Tim. 1:7. She devotes several chapters to each of these, taking the reader through a process of identification, repentance, and restoration in each area. It’s well organized and a great resource!
Overcoming Fear: The Supernatural Strategy to Live in Freedom by [De Silva, Dawna]I was not sure what to expect from this book as the subject matter can be overwhelming at times. This book was not like that. It is filled with encouragement. The author, Dawna De Silva shared about discerning the voice of God so we can hear and be healed by Him. This leads freedom from fear. Much of her teaching uses personal stories as a counselor. There are also questions throughout to help the application of the teaching to life. Along with this there are quotations from other well-known authors and Scripture to help guide.
I highly recommend this book, but I would suggest reading a chapter at a time and letting it sink in.
I was given this book by Chosen Books in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
I was not familiar with the author but the book title convinced me to give it a try. After reading it, I would say that the title could be improved even further, cutting out the "Overcoming Fear" and just leaving what is currently the subtitle, "The Supernatural Strategy to Living in Freedom", because this small book contains much more than just overcoming fear.In Overcoming Fear Dawna de Silva leads the reader on a journey of discernment, hearing from God, inner healing, freedom, and, ultimately, overcoming fear. Along the way, she teaches and shares personal anecdotes from her own experience as a Solo counselor at Bethel Church in Redding, California. This book is full of practical questions to help you apply what you read to your everyday life, Scriptures that correspond with what Dawna writes, and quotations from other well-know and respected authors such as Joyce Meyer and Bill Johnson. Its length at just under 200 pages makes for a manageable read for those who would be intimidated by anything longer; I read it in about two weeks, taking a chapter a day most days. I loved the creative examples and stories Dawna used to share these truths; it made it seem like I was talking to a friend. This is an easy yet deep read that I highly recommend.

Dawna De Silva has yet again made it to my favorites shelf and must-reads with her latest book Overcoming Fear: The Supernatural Strategy to Living In Freedom! Mark your calendars for April 30th to get this heart changing, freedom-giving, anointed book!
I absolutely love the way Holy Spirit has used Dawna to write books such as Overcoming Fear and Shifting Atmospheres that not only provides testimonies but a solid foundation of scripture to go with every single thing she has implemented. Because she has provided you with the truth of God’s word and testimonies, this book will help destroy the lies from fear and replace the lies with God’s truth. Dawna De Silva has even taken the time to add questions, declarations for a time of reflection with God in every single chapter.
Overcoming Fear is a great tool to help you advance into deeper freedom with the Father. Throughout Overcoming Fear she gives you step by step advice on how to overcome the lies of the enemy and hear the truth from Holy Spirit. Through the directions of identification, renunciation, and exchange the Holy Spirit has revealed lies and brought the truth, leaving me with a new and fresh revelation of his love. This is a book that will change your life if you apply the tools she has given you. Another awesome feature is the glossary she has added to the back to help you understand certain words throughout the book if you are not familiar with the Sozo ministry.
Overall, Overcoming Fear by Dawna De Silva is a book that I was be buying in paperback as soon as it releases on April 30th. You are able to read this book over and over again. I would not be surprised if I will need more than one copy due to how much I have highlighted just in the first read! I give this book a 5/5. Overcoming Fear is a MUST READ for everyone that has a relationship with God. I believe that this book will bring everyone into deeper freedom who is ready to apply what Dawna has taught you. One of my favorite books of all time, a heart changer, life change, and is great for anyone searching to grow closer to God!! A BIG THANK YOU!
A HUGE thank you for NetGalley and Chosen Books for approving me to read this wonderful book! Thank you, Dawna De Silva, for partnering up with Holy Spirit and breaking me free from lies of the enemy and fear.
Many Christians live in fear, harming their relationships with others and with God. De Silva wants to help readers with proven biblical tactics to break free from fear. She is a firm believer in the spirit world and the spiritual battle Christians are in. Much of her book relates to that spiritual battle and how she helps people stand above demonic attacks.
De Silva has a counseling ministry using prayer to ask God for insights into situations. She tells a number of stories about people she has helped. Praying for insights from Jesus and asking for visual representations of the issues are common. People experience release and freedom through her spiritual processes.
De Silva realizes that sometimes God works instantaneously during a prayer session. Sometimes healing takes hard work and time. Even if release is immediate, it may take time for habits to be changed. She also realizes that her prayer counseling is not a cure all. Nonetheless, she has seen her formula produce much fruit. This book is full of good teaching, powerful examples, and practical strategies. I like her concept of fear as our focusing on what we perceive as lacking rather than on God's abundance. I like De Silva reminding us that being fear free takes work. She emphasizes God's truth, meditating on it and memorizing promises. She helps us discover unhealthy mindsets from childhood too. Group discussion questions, prayers and affirmations are included at the end of each chapter.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Through preaching, speaking, authoring books, and ministering prophetically, author Dawna De Silva guides people, as well as churches and cities, into new vision and freedom. Along with her husband, Stephen De Silva, Dawna ministers with authority and gentleness, imparting hope and healing to those in need of spiritual strengthening. In her book, "Overcoming Fear: The Supernatural Strategy to Live in Freedom", she teaches, equips and activates readers in understanding the spirit realm, releasing within them the ability to rise above and overcome their personal fears. The book is divided into five sections : "Fear"; "Power"; "Love"; "Self-Discipline"; and "Application". Each individual subject is discussed, and then they are all combined and put into practice. With understanding of the doubts and concerns each of us have, Dawna De Silva advises that through taking control of fear, and no longer allowing fear to control us, we can all achieve a deeper connection with our own spirituality. I particularly enjoyed the glossary at the end of the book--just reading (and rereading) the definitions of terms like "Abundant Life", "Breakthrough", "Shifting Atmospheres", and "Spiritual Realm" provides food for thought and enlightenment.
I am reviewing a copy of Overcoming Fear through Chosen Books and Netgalley:
Overcoming Fear points out to us that we are motivated by fear far more than we think, than we realize. We are often overwhelmed by our need to control situations but in this book we are reminded of the Biblical answers to battling both fear and anxiety. In practical activating steps Dawn De Silva shows us how we can identify the fears, the patterns as well as the lies that damage our relationship with God, messing up that connection. In this book we are encouraged to resist fear by taking ownership over the influence fear has in our lives, the liberation through the word and the Spirit.
The author reminds us that when we master power, love and self discipline, you will elevate yourself above the enemy attacks and to be freed of fear and given abundant healthy living! You will experience the true and healthy living that can only come from God!
De Silva bases this encouraging book around 2 Timothy 1:7 - "For the Lord God hasn't given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, of love and of self-discipline." The book is broken into 5 sections:
1. Fear - how it robs us of so much life 2. Power 3. Love 4. Self Discipline 5. How to Apply the learnings
Each of the sections has 2-3 chapters (except the last one) and provides practical insights using many examples from De Silva's experience as a Sozo practitioner. This adds substance to the book and encouragement that fear doesn't have to cripple us as through Christ we have power to push it back to where it belongs.
If you struggle regularly with fearful thoughts, I'd encourage you to give this book a read. I'm actually keen to read De Silva's other book on her Sozo practice as I've had that on my Kindle for a while now.
Thank you to Chosen for the free review copy. All opinions are my own.
I had never heard of the Sozo method before reading this book, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I learned from the book. I was able to reflect and really dig into some of the triggers of my fear. I like how the method of releasing the fear is straightforward, But it may not be easy.
De Silva was able to show how certain things block our connections with God, and in the book, she takes the reader through the journey of identifying what is holding them back and how to release these worries.
I think that this book will be helpful for those struggling with fear and wanting the true freedom that can be found in Christ. This book is out now, so go check it out.
Overcoming Fear is different than most books written on this topic. It is not just another “self-help” book written by an author claiming to have a simple three-step plan to solve everything. The difference is author Dawna De Silva, founder of Bethel Redding’s Sozo Ministry, writes from a place of years of experience. Sharing extensively from personal experience, De Silva tackles the subject of fear as both a root of many other issues and as a symptom of deeper rooted issues. Using the Sozo method, she attempts to help the reader uproot any lies they believe about self, others, or God and find lasting freedom. I highly recommend this book and author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Chosen Books in exchange for an honest review.
Dawna addresses a lot of fear that might not be typical but I do believe hold people back or turn them toward sin.
She references her SOZO ministry a lot. Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about SOZO, but I have read a book on it (one her others). But for anyone who is just picking up this book might be confused if they don’t fully understand what SOZO is.
I liked this book I just didn’t love it. It allmost seems as though you can only receive healing if you do SOZO, but I believe God can heal you Himself or through Christian counselors as well.
A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley.com. All opinions are my own.
One of the single-most impactful resources I’ve ever used. I’m completely blown away by the revelation power inside this book to destroy strongholds, recognize fear, repent, and replace it with Truth. I wish I could tattoo every word into my brain…so powerful and life-transformative. I never knew how many things I struggle with are connected to fear and am deeply thankful for this revelation from Dawna’s walk with the Spirit. I highly recommend, even if you feel like fear isn’t present in your life. There is so much she brings to light here that offers freedom and spiritual, emotional, and physical health.
This book was inspiring writing and compelling read with that also giving you a guide line what to focus when is come with the fear solution in your life by love. This book will help you breaking through what is blocking you to keep the power of love and to see truth love with God and to the other. I highly recommend to everyone must to read this book. “ I received complimentary a copy of this book from Chosen for this review”.
This got me through a season of fears and anxieties. There are questions that you can follow and answer, with the help of the Holy Spirit! Be brave and find healing when you want it.
I was given a free copy of the book from the publishers in return for my honest opinion.
Overcoming Fear is a very well-organized book (five parts) with group discussion questions, activation prayers, and declarations at the end of chapters in which Dawna De Silva shares a way in which individuals can balance power, love, and self-discipline to break free from fear.
I think I may have walked into the reading of Overcoming Fear with too many expectations. While there is great organization, there are many examples from the Sozo Ministry (which was unknown to me prior to reading the book). It often seemed at times like there were too many examples from these Sozo sessions.
De Silva spent 9 chapters discussing God's plan for overcoming fear and only one chapter in how to apply the plan to our lives. I felt that there definitely needed to be more information on how to apply the ideas presented by De Silva.
I think some may find Overcoming Fear to be very useful and helpful. I think I need to re-read it to see what else I can glean from the book.
Dawna De Silva has written this exquisite book that shines a light on fear that we know we walk with and fear we didn't realize we were walking with. But what makes this book extraordinary is that she gives sound biblical tools to truly overcome these fears. My life is forever changed because of this book and I highly recommend it.
