Still lovely

-------------------------------

When I found out this short had been expanded I was excited, but also a little worried. Excited because I loved the short and I really wanted to read more about Zac and Hunter. But also worried because sometimes a short is amazing because it is short, and when that story is expanded it might lose some of its momentum and perhaps get boring.

And while I can say that this story didn’t get boring exactly, I did love the short more. There were parts of this longer story that unfortunately dragged a bit. It was still a solid 4 star read, but not the 5 stars I gave the first 30% when it was still a short story.

-----------------------------

This was so cute!

I really love reading shorts about established couples. Especially when one of them wants to change something in their relationship or wants to try something new in the bedroom.

Zac and Hunter have been married for a couple of years now. Zac has always loved his gay romance books, but now he found something that interests him to no end. Age-play. But he can’t possibly tell Hunter about his fascination, can he?

Hunter always knows when Zac is hiding something. Especially because they always talk about everything. It has something to do with Zac’s book, Hunter is sure of it. When Hunter’s curiosity gets the better of him, he reads a few pages of Zac’s book.

Hunter is a bit puzzled by what he reads, but he suddenly gets why Zac responds to him the way he does whenever Hunter is in ‘taking care of Zac’ mode. Now Hunter needs to find a way to make Zac open up about his desires so they can maybe try some of the stuff…

What I loved most about this short was that Zac was a reader. He was so passionate about it too. I loved it!

At one point, he’d been so obsessed about a book, he’d started putting himself in as the main character and he’d come stomping into the office ranting about what that ass had done to him. I’d shared my marriage for a long three-day weekend with a biker named Antonio who was the son of a local mobster.

And now that I thought about it, the fact that he’d identified with the omega wolves should have given me a bigger hint to ask more questions. For almost a month, the most common sentence in our house on the weekend had been, “Take that pillow out from under your shirt. I’m not taking you to the store like that.”

How adorable is that!?

There isn't much age-play in this, since these guys are just starting to discover things they might like. But I loved reading about this established couple and how Hunter discovered Zac might like to try out new things. Zac was such an adorable character and Hunter was just perfect for him. I could just feel the love and chemistry from the first page. (There is more of the age play in the expanded version. We got these two exploring quite a few items and I thought it was all handled really well)

Turns out age play doesn't mean what I thought it meant. lol I thought it only meant that they are calling each other 'Daddy' and 'Boy'; and the typical dom-sub behavior, but it's so much more than that. Like every kink, age play has different levels too. This short story only scratched the surface, thankfully no one decided to wear a diaper, or at least we didn't see it.

Zac and Hunter are a happily married couple with a healthy sex life, but ever since Zac stumbled upon a romance book that was about age play, he become more and more interested and started fantasizing about it, but didn't dare mention it to his partner. Hunter however sensed that something was bothering Zac, so he started investigating...

This story is so endearing. Zac and Hunter are so sweet and cute together. Zac is adorable with his addiction to books.

"She doesn't give readers a lot of notice, which drives me nuts. She keeps making vague comments about how it's almost done or is so close to hitting publish...it's insane."

Dude, I'm right there with you. ;D

I was so out of my comfort zone with this, even though it never got heavy. They were really just trying things out. But I loved how Hunter took care of Zac, it was really beautiful.

It's a really weird kink, and if you're curious, or just want to see what the hell I'm talking about here, this is the perfect introduction to age play. It stays pretty vanilla through the end, so don't worry you don't have to bleach your eyes afterward.

I tried it, I liked it, that being said, I'm not gonna read anything with this kink ever again, so basically almost every book by M.A Innes. Sorry! ;)

I liked the writing too, there was just one little stylistic thing that nagged at me, but it's just me, it doesn't need any correcting.

4.5 stars! Highly recommended!

This is my 2nd Story where an established MM couple Find their Relationship in a new light With Age-Play Kink, The Newness is always so...Endearing.
Zac & Hunter were FUN & Cute! The sexy scenes are hot🔥. I read this book in 4hrs over 5days. Looks like I'm on the binge of reading MA innes books since finding her!

So I don't read much books with Couples that are already established, but these days...Ya different, but these must have something special to keep my attention & this had that! 1st of all I love mm, 2nd I loved Zac+Hunter's Dynamics, 3rd though I've not find Age-Play that much of a turn on -With all the books I'm reading of it- it's Changing.

Zac & Hunter are married 5 years now & Still very much in Love; We get basic History- of their Jobs (Z's in PR management & H's a Teacher), How they fell in love (One night stand to Forever!), Their Families & Some fun Relationship Normalcy; Throughout the story with all the Sexy Dirty Deeds!

Both are Kinda Workholics, but It's obvious that Hunter's Serious & more on the Caretaking side While Zac's Bubbly & on the cute bratty side.
Zac loves his smutty books (I like this!!) & Have found That Age-Play turns him on + he's curious about it...But how do you talk to Your hubby that you want to try it?
When Hunter Feels that Zac's keeping secrets, he doesn't immediately pry, but Knowing it's something related to his books, He does find about it easily by reading them & then it All makes Sense. Cue some Awkward talks later, but it opens a whole gateway of explorations for these two!

There weren't any side-Characters, but I loved our MCs & their personalities so much that I didn't mind. I love how they communicate, I adore how Hunter handles Zac. Zac thinks that Hunter may not like this all & is Anxious; But Hunter shows how much he cares for Zac, how he likes this all too.

The story progresses nicely with the initial Weirdness then Opening Up, Finding the Fun in it, thinking of future, making new Relaxing normal & we get all the major Age-Play thingies + Sexy times too!
Hunter is the Daddy, Zac is the little & I Loved how they Found this sides of themselves! This story really showed what Really matters in Love & Relationship. Loved it!
"He was my boy, and I was his Daddy, not just because he loved me, but because he trusted me. That was what really mattered."

DNF I don't want to give away any spoilers but I wish I had of known what the 'kink' was before I wasted my money. It's a daddy/baby type kink where one of the MC's wants to pretend to be a baby - diapers, nursery the whole nine yards. If that's what you like, go for it, but it's NOT my cup of tea.

What a pleasant surprise this was. I got it free several months ago and just kept putting off reading it. Been homebound so been trying to knock out a lot of these shorts I had in the folder.

Sometimes short reads suffer because you can't get a full feel of the characters to invest in their outcome. Not here. Zac and Hunter are such a cute couple, and I loved how the history of their relationship played out as both worked through what attracted them to each other. I loved how Hunter knew Zac was hiding something and sought out what it was and slowly came to the realization of what Zac wanted.

This was unique, sweet and sexy all at the same time. Great job M. A. Innes.

3.5/5.

What Really Matters is a funny, sweet story about an established couple discovering ABDL and age play within their relationship, and how it brings them closer together.

I think for me "established relationships" as a trope is not my favorite, but I found this one believable and funny. Not only are the characters in love and sweet together, but the way their day-to-day dynamic comes to be is rather entertaining. I loved Zac's investment into romance books and the hilarity that comes from how much he is into the different genres - the line about Antonio the biker is one that still makes me chuckle.

This book is good for those new to daddy kink and age play I think, because it runs the gamut on activities and explores a lot about why both for Daddy and little this is something they enjoy. This does make it rather fluffy, and for beginners, but even diaper use is brought up so its got that depth and substance. We get some hot scenes between them, *and* we also see their balance as just being husbands and why the kink brings them closer together. There is also a lovely switch scene where Zac tops and it is great!

I like Innes instalove and I think the reason this wasn't a four star for me is that I like her books about new relationships better than something established. This almost was too sweet for me, but I dd enjoy reading it and am glad this book exists.

4,5*

PLEASE READ FIRST MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings (thanks to amazon I had to change it again and 'upgrade' it a little bit)

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like 'Liberty' from Seth King,
'Save the kids' series from EM Leya or 'Jesse's Smile' from Angelique Jurd), it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises
(like most of Andrew Grey books) it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy
for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's
like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, but not really an often reread book

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it
was ok) It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an
absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

I had the short story a few weeks ago and found it great. And now we have the big story!
It's fantastic to see, how a married couple, which is together for a while, find their way into Daddy/boy-kink. You can go every step with them, every question they questioning themselves. It's a wonderful book!
Only 4,5*, because I want know so much more... if they found a... (no, I don't spoiler....)
I WANT A SECOND BOOK!!!

ac and Hunter are a happily married couple. I liked them both right away. Zac has a love of m/m romance novels (don't we all..). It's though these books he develops a keen interest in age play.

"They'd have their happy ever after. They always did with this author, but I couldn't help but worry. It wasn't hard to picture everything that could go wrong, and putting myself in their place was becoming entirely too easy. Damned dirty books giving me crazy ideas."

Zac is afraid to bring it up with his husband, but Hunter works it out anyway.. I loved the way Hunter was with Zac. You could feel the strength in their marriage, the love & support for each other.
Both men begin to ease into their new roles, becoming comfortable in the new turn their marriage has taken.

"just knowing he was sharing something special with me made it sweet and beautiful. This was a side of him that no one else would get to see and was just for us. It went beyond being in love or even making love. This was a hidden side that he was letting me see because he trusted me and believed in us."

A beautiful story of two men loving and trusting each other while they explore a new dimension of their marriage. Learning together with open communication and acceptance. If you are open minded in your kinks I'd happily recommend this book.

Yes Yes Yes

I loved this book SO much! I love reading age play and seeing the twist of the couple talking about trying age play after they’ve already been married for awhile was fun and awesome. The relationship these two have is filled with love and mutual respect which only makes their age play that much more intimate and great. Zac has the most vivid imagination so seeing him little is so fun. Hunter is a fantastic daddy with his lists and research. Loved these two so much that I would love to see more of them in the future!!

Very sweet...

This was a story about how a die hard romance reader took what he read and decided to try it. His partner loved him enough to try and every one was happy.

I loved all the talk about the different romances the boy went through in the beginning and how Daddy was perfectly fine with it.

Really lovely established relationship novella with new kink exploration. The author made great use of the shorter format here, and the relationship and first tentative forays into the age play were really well done.

What Really Matters is the first book by M.A. Innes I have read, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have read age-play books before, but this one was of a younger 'boy' than I have previously read, much younger. Although it didn't do anything for me, I found the writing to be completely sympathetic to the couple, ensuring the reader wasn't shocked or horrified. Instead, you read how they are both unsure, but through communication and finding out what worked for them, they are able to come up with something they are both into.

Well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading, this was an unexpected delight that took me out of my comfort zone. Definitely recommended by me.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Absolute perfection!!!!
I thought the previous version was great but this extended one is phenomenal. The author really got to the heart of the emotions both Hunter and Zac went through as they explored their desires. A truly beautiful read and my favorite out of all of the author’s work. I didn’t think she could be topped but she can and did by herself.

Such a fabulous book!

This book was such fun to read - and really hot! Shaw/M.A. does such a wonderful job of creating complete people when she tells us their story. The backstory and surrounding area are included so seemingly effortlessly that I have a complete picture in my head of what Zac looks like in his play clothes and pajama. And I really chuckled when I read the sections where Zac was baking/cooking for Hunter in their expertly equipped kitchen. The cleanup from his tasks must have been horrendous... Aside from the storyline and info about the MCs, her books, and this one in particular, impact me with such a comfortable warm feeling inside because she shows the love between her two men so deeply. Sure life slips crazy stuff into our lives but the deep abiding love that Shaw/M.A. has in her tales is just outstanding. Thanks for expanding on the short story - I LOVED IT!!!

Zac and Hunter have been married for years and are just as much in love now as they were before. Zac has a secret and is worried about what Hunter will think about it. As Zac acts more interesting than usual Hunter has to make the choice to see what his sexy husband is up to and then make a choice - does he commit to what Zac wants? Two loving men. One big question about what really matters when you’re in love.

I enjoyed this story with the discussion before adding new aspects to their relationship and the way that they described how they felt about what they were doing. I loved the way that Hunter was all in and determined to support and give his husband what he needed which then gave him unexpected pleasure. Easy to read, feel and understand I was swept away in their relationship and exploration of age play. This was a MM story with mature content and a BSDM-like DDLB dynamic including diapers, binkies and spanking.

Hunter & Zac

This book was my first foray into age play, and I think it was a great book for an introduction to this trope. It was well
developed and not overwhelming for a first time reader in this trope. I thought the relationship between husbands Hunter and Zac was sweet and sexy. Hunter was so understanding of Zac’s wants and needs and how he took care of his Boy was what one would expect of a good Daddy. I loved the references to the MM world of book reading, I found myself laughing at some of Zac’s antics and reader frustrations. I really enjoyed their story and it has made me curious for more age play romances.

What really mattered to me was that I found the characters too sweet, too normal, too boring. The concept was good and I have no doubt many readers will enjoy this story as a "normal" couple discovers Daddy/little kink and begins to explore it. Hunter is an ideal husband and I surely wouldn't have minded being married to someone who was so attuned to me. But TBH this reads more like a how-to get into kink story and just didn't capture me.

Yes, I kept reading because I thought there might be a spark of conflict or excitement along the way but it just didn't stand out so I'm glad I finally checked it off my TBR but I'm sad that it didn't strike me as memorable.

This was such a sweet beginning to what I hope will one day be a wonderful age play book!

This short story features a married couple in which one man is intrigued by books he’s read involving age play. He just isn’t sure which aspects he’s interested in and not sure how to tell his husband when he’s not sure himself.

A totally adorable story about a settled couple

Zac and Hunter are undeniably cute together.
Starting from a strong married relationship, rather than beginning to learn about one another, the story begins when Hunter notices Zac reading age play stories. Something suggests to him that this is important to Zac, but it takes time, communication and patience to get Zac to a place where he is happy with his choices - and their relationship is stronger than ever.
Totally adorable - I had tears in my eyes by the end
