A survey of the history of UFO sightings and close encounters occurring in the New England states is a concept that sounds good in theory but, in New England UFOs at least, provides mixed results. While each state -- with the arguable exceptions of the relatively quiet Connecticut and Vermont -- has its marquee cases, the vast majority of the stories Taryn Plumb tells in her book are interchangeable, frankly boring sightings of lights and crafts in the sky that may well establish the frequency of UFO encounters but make for monotonous reading. A book which highlights and examines more extensively the big-dog cases (such as the Betty and Barney Hill abductions, Betty Andreasson's bizarre tales of alien/angel encounters, even the disappearances in the Bennington Triangle) occurring in New England would have been much better than one which pads itself out with forgettable reports cribbed from Project Blue Book case files and various newspaper and magazine articles. If your eyes don't glaze over at several points in this book then you're made of sterner stuff than I am.
minus one star for incorrect Connecticut geography! also there’s only so many stories you can read that boil down to “there was a light in the sky and then it went this way and then that way” before you kind of get the gist
Several alleged encounters with Aliens and Unidentified Flying Objects, presenting every bit of info as just a fact of evidence and all testimonies as testimonies. Skeptics can enjoy the stories and the info, believers can consume while finding common ground.
This is a fun read that is not trying to get or trick you, just tell you everything it knows and that can be rare with supernatural encounter stories, especially ones you find in tourist traps.
I loved the author's thorough retelling of UFO tales from each of the New England states, going back as far as the colonial era. For those who love the weird & mysterious, this is a gem! I do wish that the book had included photos of some of the events, but there is an extensive list of websites, newspaper articles and resources on where you can get more information. She examined MUFON's archives, Project Blue Book and more to gather these stories to share with the reader. I enjoyed the book immensely and will be reading her other books asap. Also, the cover art is fun!
