Simon Travers just died. He didn't even know it at first. There was no light to go into. There was nobody to hold his hand. There was just overwhelming pain and confusion. Left to his own devices, Simon has to find his way in a world that is wholly familiar, yet completely alien to him. He soon learns that being a ghost has its perks. Though all he really cares about is finding his recently departed daughter, Lucy. Unbeknownst to Simon, powerful forces are watching his every move. You see, there's something deeper to the man. Something that could lead to the apocalypse. The reality of his situation slowly comes into focus as the forces of Heaven and Hell vie for Simon's favor. Both sides want Armageddon, but only Simon can decide who will prevail. But what if there's a third choice? What if he chooses neither?

Something Deeper is the third book of John Prescott’s I have read. Having loved both ‘After’ and ‘Preservation Protocol’ I didn’t even read the blurb before buying Something Deeper, so I didn’t know what to expect. A powerful and unexpected opening sequence captured my attention immediately and didn’t let up until the final page. After the opening scene, what followed blew me away. I enjoy Angel and Demon movies – such as The Prophecy, Constantine, Legion, and Dogma – and this book trumped the lot in terms of story and characterisation. It felt as though the author had done a lot of research on the subject which really shone through in the writing. This was one of those books that you wish you could forget just so you have the opportunity to read it for the first time again.
Prescott weaves this tale so beautifully, you will be pausing for reflection before you are through. Enjoy epic battles between angels, demons, demi-gods and at least one tough old soul who loves his hardware...er, store.
Heaven or Hell? Is our eternal resting place decided by our actions while living? Follow Simon Travers as he comes to terms with his personal demons and discovers his true self.
I highly recommend this novel. It is an easy and fun read, exciting and mysterious to the end.
