Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.
The Haunted Collection books 1-3 is well written and creepy without being graphic. The characters of Victor and Jeremy are likable, while Stefan makes your skin crawl. I was creeped out reading this late at night, every little noise had me looking over my shoulder. This is just what a collection of ghost stories should do. I’m definitely looking forward to reading books 4-6.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a great edge of seat series with supernatural beings in objects. You have haunted dolls and they are killing people. Stefan is selling off his dad's collection and he gets excitedas they kill. Stefan feels it gets revenge on his parents for the abuse he has suffered as a child. You have consistency of characters book to book. The characters are well described and gruesome. The storyline is well described and eerie. Thom Bowers does a great job maintaining your interest.
I love these series because i love haunted ghost stories. Wish they made a tv series about this. I do not give spoilers away and lets just say it is a intense series. 5 haunted possessions out of 5
Wow. This took a little longer than expected to read as I am in school full time. I loved the possessed possessions in the first story. I love the idea of the haunted items going from person to person and the way that the new owners die is really twisted.
Thom Bowers needs to read me bedtime stories in his creepy ghost voice. Scare street is my favorite horror publisher. Victor, the poor man, comes home to his wife committing suicide. He later discovers that the ghost of a little boy bound to a teddy bear convinced her to do it. He teams up with Jeremy Rhinehart to find the very much alive person that is putting out haunted items in hopes they’ll kill people. I loved the creepiness and the violence. I also loved seeing Shane Ryan again.
There are a lot of things out there that scare the crap out of me. Big, hairy spiders, being buried alive, drowning, being lost on an alien world - all of these are plenty scary, but there is one thing that scares me above all these - haunted dolls. There is absolutely nothing scarier to me than a doll that is possessed by an evil spirit. I refuse to even have the satanic things in my home. That said, this series has all the elements of one scary experience. Stefan Korzh has inherited a collection of haunted items, mostly toys and dolls, that contain the spirits of particularly evil ghosts. Stefan has two goals - turn these ghosts loose on an unsuspecting world and get revenge against his parents, who he hated. His parents are both dead, of course, but that doesn't stop them from abusing Stefan as they did while alive. In comes Victor Daniels, whose wife is killed by an evil ghost inhabiting a toy bear that she buys from Stefan's collection, and the adventure begins. Victor teams up with Jeremy Rhinehart, an expert in the paranormal with a history of solving problems like Victor's.
The second book in the Haunted Collection series is every bit as good as the first one. Stefan Korzh has fallen further into the clutches of evil, personified by his dead father, and is selling off the haunted collection a piece at a time in order to spread death as far and wide as possible. Meantime, Jeremy and his group are attempting to put together a means to stop Stefan's reign of horror. The story this time centers around a WWII vintage Gerund rifle that is haunted by a marine who died during that war. Enter an old friend - Shane Ryan - to utilize his special skills in the fight. Will Shane and Victor end Stefan’s horrific deeds? It’s possible, but you’ll just have to keep reading to find out. At the risk of spoiling it, I shall say no more except that I am now well into Book 3 and am awaiting Book 4 with cold breathed anticipation.
In Book Three, we are once again immersed in the gruesome world that resides in Ron Ripley's imagination, and it's a trip well worth taking. Stefan Korzh is still at large and is still unleashing his little shop of horrors onto the world, sending haunted items to unsuspecting people, with the expected results. Two pairs of hunters, with vastly different agendas, are seeking the same goal - to kill Stefan. Victor and Tom (whom Victor has more or less adopted ) want to stop the killings while Bontac and Ariana want to stop Stefan from spoiling their objective of killing even more innocent people.
There is something at once magical and frightening about this series. While it might seem at first that each book in the series just retells the same story in a different setting, there is enough suspense to keep the reader’s interest. You want the “good guys” to succeed and the “bad guys” to get their just desserts and the more you read, the more this feeling sets in. I happily give this series a well deserved five stars.
I think Ron Ripley is one of the most talented horror writers out there today. He has a knack for touching the scare nerve in all of us. His characters are well developed. Thom Bowers' audio narration adds an even creepier dimension to these stories. His talent with various ethnic accents is totally entertaining.
Overall, the premise interesting and definitely can set up a neverending story. I love good scary story, and haunted objects are particularly fascinating. Descriptions of scenes are well done, and I could easily envision settings and events. The dialogue between characters, ghosts or otherwise, felt forced and I was having a hard time with how easily the living conversed with the dead, even across time spans (modern day vs old ghosts). I definitely can see the makings of a multi movie production.
Audible:Wowzers!I love this series and now have to see if there is a 4th book! What an imagination.Haunted objects are kind of an old fashioned thing to write about, but not how Ron Ripley writes them. Thom Bowers was excellent narrating..His voices were amazing! I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
