Book 2 was a fantastic installment of the True Blue K-9 Unit continuing series. Even though the murder mystery from the first book still remains unsolved and ongoing, there’s another exciting storyline involving drug smuggling that does get wrapped up in this one. The main characters, Violet and Zach, were extremely likable. They’ve been friends since childhood, and now they are discovering romantic feelings towards each other. Violet was a wonderful heroine. She was strong and self-reliant, and really showed that she was capable of handling herself in dangerous situations. I really liked her job working at LaGuardia Airport at the ticket counter where she discovered a drug smuggling operation going on, and ended up making herself a target. And I enjoyed the scenes in the story that took place at the airport. NYPD officer Zach works with the K-9 Unit. He’s a wonderfully protective hero to Violet. He, along with his two brothers who also work with the K-9 Unit, is still struggling with the unsolved murder of their brother Jordan, who was also a police officer. Zach’s drug detecting canine partner, Eddie, was pretty awesome himself, too. This was such an all-around enjoyable story that kept me entertained throughout.

The True Blue K-9 series is a connected set of books all written by different authors. This is the first that I have read and am confident that if the rest of the stories are similar, they can all be read as standalones. In this story the Jamieson brothers are all K-9 detectives. They are still reeling from the death of their brother, Jordan, who they know was murdered, but is still being considered a suicide by the press. As well as this, their neighbour Violet, is being targeted by a ruthless, vicious drug dealer who she is able to identify. Violet works at the airport and with her keen observation, she realizes that there is drug smuggling going on through the airline she works with. Mixed in with all this, the K-9 team are all trying to find Jordan's K-9 partner who went missing when Jordan was killed. With Zach, the youngest Jamieson fighting his feelings toward Violet and she doing the same, will they ever be open and honest with one another?

This was a well-paced, yet fast story with a lot of action. The inner turmoil Zach was dealing with due to Jordan's death was very realistic and his turning away from God happens often. With his family and Violet praying for him, it took him time to come around and realize that he had much to be thankful for. Violet was an amazing character. She was smart, spunky, tough and loving. She was the only one who could reach Zach and when she finally shared her feelings with Zach, albeit by accident, it brought about a happily ever after for them. I did have some issues with the story. It seemed that the K-9 unit was always nearby and available when one of the Jamieson brothers called, which is not realistic. Also the rest of the NYPD almost seemed non-existent in such dangerous situations. Having said that, I enjoyed the story, the characters and especially the dogs. I will be looking for more in this series to see what happens to the rest of the K-9 detectives. With this also being the first book by Dana Mentink, I will say that I enjoyed her writing style and will also be looking for more of her book. I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

ACT OF VALOR (True Blue K-9 Unit Book #2) by Dana Mentink is an action packed Christian romantic suspense in this True Blue K-9 Unit series published by Love Inspired Suspense. This is the second book in the series featuring another of the Jameson brothers who all work in the NYPD K-9 unit with their varied K-9 partners. This is easily read as a standalone with a HEA and a complete crime suspense plot, but there is an over-arcing murder mystery that is in all the books of this series, so I am reading them all in order.

Violet Griffin works as a ticketing agent at La Guardia as well as helping in her parent’s family restaurant. When she encounters a suspicious passenger, she suddenly finds herself the target of a drug smuggling ring that wants her dead. When she is attacked in the employee lounge, Zach is in the airport with his beagle and saves her, but her attacker gets away.

NYPD K-9 Officer Zach Jameson and his drug sniffing beagle, Eddie, are in time to save Violet this time, but she is determined to live her own life and makes protecting her difficult and leaves her open to attack. Zach and Violet have been friends since childhood, and he is determined to protect her by bringing down the drug ring that is threatening her life.

As Zach guards Violet their chemistry ramps up. Violet refuses to ruin her friendship with Zach if he does not return her feelings of more than friendship, but she is willing to pray for and with Zach since he has lost his faith in God with the murder of his brother while trying to stay alive and bring down the drug ring.

This is a well written Christian romantic suspense that kept me reading from start to finish. The romance was believable with Violet and Zach both realizing how much they cared for each other, but afraid to lose their long-term friendship. The arguing between the two was humorous even though it was over serious matters. There are no sex scenes and yet the chemistry and love are there. There are strong faith and prayer elements throughout the story, but they are well placed and never slowed the story. The suspense is action packed and fast paced. I loved Eddie and enjoyed the balance between his work attitude and his lovable and at times naughty personality when not working. I was glad there was mention of a little progress in the murder mystery that is spread over the entire series, but I wanted more.

This is an exciting and thrilling Christian romantic suspense that ticked off everything I would hope for in this type of genre book.

Violet Griffin, an airlines employee, sees her superior allow someone she believes to be carrying drugs to bypass inspection before flying. When she calls best friend and drug canine officer Zach Jameson, the drug transporter attacks her. Because she interferes, the drug transporter hunts her down. Only the protection of Zach and others on the canine unit can keep her safe. But for how long? Especially since they are mourning the death of their leader, Zach's oldest brother, Jordan.

Violet tries to be the tough girl who can keep up with her best friend and his cop buddies, but unbeknownst to Zach, she has loved him since was a girl.

Act of Valor is likeable and exciting with a great buildup to the climax. Eddie is an adorable police beagle who can't be trusted with furniture when he's upset. Mentink does a great job establishing the characters' backstories, even Eddie's. The romance is a friend-to-lover trope. It's a fun read.

SO good! Love the friends to more storyline! As always, with books by Dana Mentink, witty conversation and just fun. Love the drug smuggling storyline much more than the serial killer storyline of the first book in this series. There's an overarching mystery in these books but if you start here you won't be lost.

Any time I have the opportunity to read a book by Dana Mentink, I jump at the chance, and her romantic suspense novels are my faves. The action leaps off the page and takes me along for the knuckle-whitening ride, picking up some spot-on humor and delicious romance as we go.

Act of Valor is the second book in the latest multi-author continuity K-9/law enforcement series from Love Inspired Suspense, and while it will certainly grab and keep your attention even if you haven’t read the first book I do strongly encourage you to go back and pick up Justice Mission by Lynette Eason to get the full effect. The story arc that starts in that first book continues in this one – and escalates a bit eventually as well. Also, you won’t really understand the emotion that everyone is still carrying with them in book 2 until you’ve read book 1.

There’s also a ‘new’ story line in Act of Valor, one that I’m certain has implications for the case they’re still investigating from Justice Mission too. The action hits the ground running and doesn’t ease up much until the very end. Violet’s life is in danger from the very first chapter, allowing plenty of swoony moments where Zach holds her close and shields her from flying bullets and surly bad guys and the like. However, lest you think Violet is a shrinking… well… violet… girlfriend holds up well under pressure and gives strong-but-still-feminine women a good name. I really like how Mentink crafted both of these characters – with a good balance of strength, vulnerability, tenderness, and wit.

For this friends-to-more romance, all that heart-pounding edge-of-your-life suspense also allows more than a few opportunities for clueless Zach to see what’s right in front of him – and some swoonilicious emotionally-layered smooches. The tenderness these two exhibit toward each other speaks to their long history as best friends and is only magnified all the more as romantic feelings begin to factor in more acutely than ever. Zach’s faith battle is also nicely layered and authentic, and I so appreciate how the author didn’t tie up his struggles with a neat red bow but let him continue to process things in a way that makes sense for his character.

And let’s not forget some of that classic Mentink humor. The subway scene – even as Zach and Violet are running for their lives yet again – is HILARIOUS and definitely one of my favorite scenes in the book. Another fave moment is when adorable Eddie (Zach’s drug detection beagle) gets into some shenanigans while left alone in Violet’s apartment (during another fight for their lives against these Houdini-esque bad guys). Zach’s ensuing conversation with him, as well as Eddie’s doleful reactions, left me still chuckling for a while.

Bottom Line: Another stellar suspense offering from Dana Mentink! High-stakes action. Solid & emotional continuing story arc. Toe-curling swoonworthiness. Tender friendship. Family that runs deeper than blood. This book – and its series – are must reads for suspense fans!

I am so easily smitten by soulful eyes, silky-soft ears and a wagging tale. Eddie is my dream canine hero - meticulous on the job but he has a hidden wild side during off hours. There's a reason they call him Officer Chewsalot! Love me a hero with a bad boy image!

And Eddie's two-legged partner, Zach, makes a droolworthy sidekick. :-) He's a bit gruff and testy as he wrestles with the emotional fallout of a recent loss but that doesn't phase bestie Violet. She's the girl next door who has known him forever and been crushing on him since junior high. He, of course, has been oblivious...until Violet becomes the target of a killer. Suddenly friendship morphs into something much deeper. Cue the toe-curling and exasperated sighing. It's tough to concentrate on romance when someone is trying to kill your lady love. :-) Great balance of suspense and romance and there's plenty of frantic page-turning action that makes this the kind of read you just can't put down!

Act of Valor is the second book in the True Blue K-9 Unit continuity series though it can be read as a standalone. There is an over-arcing suspense plot that builds throughout the series and won't be solved until the last book. Each story does provide individual romantic and casework resolution so there aren't any nasty cliffhanger type endings. Plus the books release monthly so we won't have long to wait until #3 Blind Trust by Laura Scott releases!

Wow! What a story! Act of Valor is part of a continuity series, a series where each book is written by a different author. It is book two in the series, but I did not have any problem jumping into this story and throroughly loving it, even though I had not read book one! Act of Valor is currently my favorite book written by this author.

Violet Griffin, with the help of Zach Jameson, is constantly trying to escape danger throughout this entire novel. The bad guys really don’t let up! Gotta give them props for dedication to their evil ways 🙂 They were seriously determined!

But one of the best things about this story was the friends to more scenario. I loved the romantic attraction in this story that blossomed between long time friends, Zach and Violet. These two were so perfect for each other.

Not to be a book snob but I usually tend to shy away from anything that is published under the Harlequin imprint. I tend to not like the ever-present formula of guy and gal meet, have strong disliking of each other, something happens, they fall in love. However, Dana Mentink has totally changed my mind. Her books published under Love Inspired Suspense are ones I just can't put down.

Act of Valor is the second book in a series from different authors. Not having read the first book I had no problem picking this book up and being immediately pulled into the story. I found the two main human characters likable and Eddie, the canine character, was full of charm and humor. He added some much needed comic relief to a story that was fast-paced and intense. With the author's writing, I felt like I was part of the action on the streets of New York City!

I definitely recommend this book. It's a quick and easy read and a great way to spend an afternoon or evening. I didn't intend to read this book as quickly as I did but once I started it I just couldn't put it down!

'He and God weren't friends anymore.'

Violet Griffin is an airline employee and sees several suspicious travelers and just by that simple act, she is marked as a target by drug runners. Zach Jameson and Eddie, his drug detection beagle are ready to bring down these smugglers, but come up against dead end after dead end. To make matters worse, Zach's brother, also an officer, has recently been murdered and Zach is determined to find his killer. Zach and Violet have been friends since grade school, but suddenly things are changing up a bit in their lives. Could it be love?

Dana Mentink grabs this and runs with it. Suspense and action go hand in hand for a thrilling ride! I love these K-9 stories. Everything you need is here: suspense, super bad guys, non-stop action, budding romance and dogs. What more do you need? Recommended.

*My thanks to the publisher and author for a preview copy of this book. The opinions stated here are entirely my own and no compensation was received, nor positive review expected.

‘In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.’ Psalm 4:8

Violet works at the check-in desk in the LaGuardia airport. It is usually a very enjoyable job with folks looking forward to traveling. When something seems out of order, she calls her boss who takes care of it. This time, however, it just appears all wrong! Zach is a K-9 officer with Eddie, the beagle, as his partner. His brother was recently murdered and Zach blames God. As a childhood friend of Violet, he is the one she calls for help. Will he be able to trust in God and the help of his fellow officers to solve this case? With kidnapping, drugs and murder the action keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what possibly could happen next!

ACT OF VALOR is a fast-paced romantic suspense with likable characters and an inspirational element weaved throughout as these characters try to grapple with their lives. An entertaining read!

I liked these characters from the start. Zach has quite a chip on his shoulder and a stubborn streak a mile wide, but he's loyal, fierce, and Violet's best friend. He's just dealing with some hard things and not dealing well. Violet seems to be the only one to reach him. She finds herself in quite a bit of danger, which gives the two of them the opportunity to be around each other and push the boundaries of their friendship. Violet is just as stubborn as Zach, but she's also sweet and warm. I adored their friendship and how they slip into something more without deliberately making the choice to do so. The plot didn't always work for me and there were quite a few characters to keep track of in places for such a short book, but those would be my only complaints.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I really enjoyed this! I do wish that these stories were longer sometimes because it would allow for a little more development, but I really liked the characters, the romance was sweet while also being swoon-worthy, and the suspense was plenty intense.

Content: Some violence, but clean.

Dana Mentink is my absolute favorite LIS author. Her stories always have a lot of action and are definitely “one more chapter” kind of books! Act of valor is no different. This is the third story in this continuity series, but it easily reads as a stand-alone.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I always love the humor that Dana adds to her stories. Keep your eye out for the subway scene, where Zach and Violet are on the run! Dana perfectly paces the action in this story. Even though the killer keeps eluding the police, Dana writes it in a way that doesn’t make you think the police don’t know how to do their jobs. I recently read a story where the bad guy kept eluding the police, which made them seem totally incompetent, so I really appreciated that aspect of the story!

This is a friends first story, which is one of my favorite tropes. Zach and Violet are long time friends and have a great connection from the start. And to finish, I’ll end with my favorite quote from Violet’s mother,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Sometimes you build a wall around today and you don’t climb over it.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think this is a great thought for those of us who tend to worry! I am wanting to read the rest of this continuity series to see who actually did the running crime throughout - I just wish Dana Mentink was writing the rest of the stories!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

Oh, what fun Dana Mentink’s Act of Valor is to read. It continues the storyline that Justice Mission began, but with its own set of dangerous scenarios, sweet romance, and sprinkled-in humor. I definitely enjoyed it.

When Violet Griffin—and Zach Jameson, too, as her close, protective friend and cop—becomes caught within the drama of drug smuggling, the action-packed story takes off. The threat of danger proves never to be too far away as danger lurks at every page turn. Complicating the circumstances, Violet and Zach both must grapple with their changing, more-than-friendship feelings toward the other.

It was a pleasure to join Violet and Zach through this mystery and suspense.Through it all, they complement each other well—both stubborn and tough, yet not without vulnerabilities—and the way their romance blossoms amidst the danger is oh so heartwarming. I highly recommend their story to interested readers, but be aware that reading Justice Mission first will enhance the experience with the overarching series plotline.

As Violet fights not only for her life but against the more-than-friends feelings he has for Zach, her tough-girl exterior begins to crumble. Zach has always seen Vi as his best friend, but when her life is on the life, he realizes he cares for her much more than as friends. But will he have the chance to tell her?

Dana Mentink gives readers a peek into the many roles of K-9 officers (as well as a few instances of the lighter side of obedience training) while drawing readers into an intense suspense with characters who struggle emotionally as well as spiritually.

In addition, her descriptions of the officers and their K-9 partners have done the job of interesting me in the rest of the books in this continuity series.

I enjoyed this Christian romantic suspense novel. Mentink provides a good balance of character engagement and plot movement. I liked the lead female character, Violet. She is New York tough, uh, stubborn. Stubborn or not, when the situation is tense, she comes through with strength. She also has a strong faith, something the male hero, Zach, needs. His brother was killed in a previous novel and Zach is having a difficult time in his relationship with God. The novel is a good one with much about the ongoing relationship between Zach and Violet, a hint of humor, lots of action, and a satisfying element of romance.

"Act of Valor"by Dana Mentink is the second book in the "True Blue K-9 Unit" series. I didn't read the first book in this series but after reading this one, it and the remaining books are now added to My To Be Read List". Yes, this book can be enjoyed as a standalone. I think in book one, NYPD officer Zach Jameson's brother is killed and there is a mystery surrounding his death and in book 2, the reader learns a little more of this but not all.

This story is about catching drug smugglers and about friends realizing they are more than just friends.

There is some humor in this story, such as characters telling other characters that act like a married couple. The K-9 even tears holes in couches, just like real life.

I believed all readers should read this story/stories to get a new awareness of what police officers faced why doing their job.

In this story the bad guys keeps showing up and gets away and it seems like the statement he makes to the Vi, "The cops"?....You know who wins in the end, at this game of life, I mean? The ones who don't follow the rules. Cops have to follow the rules. Me? I haven't followed any rules since I was twelve years old. Cops always lose." This statement really made cringe when I read it because it really seems to be in some cases. Don't you now want to read "Act of Valor" by Dana Mentink and found out if it is true in this novel?

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed Dana's story. It was well written. But most of all I enjoyed Zack and Val. They were childhood friends. I like the way Dana picked up the story from the first one. Plus I loved how she brought Zack to life with his problem of being a natural clutz and he can't cook. I love Val her inner strength. In the story she brings out the grief the team still carries. But she also has suspense going on as to why people are after Val. The mystery of the missing partner of the chief. Has everyone looking for the missing German shepherd. The mystery as to why the chief died is still on. But there are other mysteries to solve. Its a great book. I love the way Zack proposes to Val. Its unique and special. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series for its been fun so far. Plus the authors that are picked for the series are awesome.

This book is part of a series, but stands alone. I loved the characters in this book. Two families, caring and loving, represent what great families should. The main characters are well defined and are easy to identify with throughout the book. Descriptive, fast paced, and filled with suspense, Dana Mentink never fails! Her suspense stories continue to intrigue me and keep my interest, so much so that I find it very difficult to take a break from reading. The dogs represented throughout this book are strong characters in their own right, and add a sweetness to the overall context.

I have never been disappointed in one of this author's Love Inspired Suspense books, and that remains true with Act of Valor. Pick up a copy and enjoy!

Act of Valor

A exciting book from start to finish. Bad guys dealing with drugs is after Violet when she encounters them while working at the airport. She thinks her boss is involved somehow but not sure.

I loved Violet and Zach. She was so determined to keep going on with her regular job and life. Being in danger was definitely interfering. Zach was trying his best to keep her safe.

This book is part of a series by different authors that is basically just starting. This is the 2nd in the series. It does appear to be a stand alone book.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.

Christians should read the Bible.  But what else should we read?  The truth is that entertainment is an important part of our lives.  It's part of how we rest and play (things that God does too!).  Sure, entertainment done wrong can hijack our lives and our sleep, or can gradually woo us away from our values.  But entertainment done right can actually make us more productive and effective in all the things we do (even, or especially, the things we do for God). And entertainment done right can reinforce our values and get us thinking about our faith from different angles.  I would place Act of Valor in the category of "Entertainment Done Right."

3 Reasons Act of Valor is Entertainment Done Right
#1 Entertainment Done Right is...well, entertaining!

It's okay to read books that are not "for fun." Even fiction doesn't have to be lighthearted and funny to have great value.  (Lighthearted and funny can have great value, though.  Like the funniest book I read last year.)  But we should get caught up in the story.  For me, suspense does that, and Act of Valor kept me on my toes enough to pull me into the story.  I'm not a huge dog person - not anti-dogs, just don't know a lot about them.  But the K-9 police dogs in this story were a riot.  And yes, I found myself Googling to learn more.  Kind of like the little brother that can bless your socks off one minute and destroy your favorite fill-in-the-blank the next, they were true characters and they made this book fun to read.

I liked the human characters too, although I think I would have liked to get to know Zach more.  Violet was a tough cookie.  I loved how she refused to be a victim (even when she was a victim); refused to let the drug dealers trying to kill her steal away her life, her job, or her home.  When she does agree to take some time to go get safe, it is as much to protect those around her as herself.  Violet Griffin is Griffin tough.  She is calm in crisis, loyal to her friends and willing to call them out, and doesn't give up on people.  I would be okay with girls in my Mpact Girls Clubs wanting to be more like her.

#2 Entertainment Done Right Shares Our Worldview

Listen carefully, because I'm not saying that we can't be entertained in a healthy way by watching a secular movie or TV show. When I finished reading this book, I watched The Devil Wears Prada.  Secular entertainment can still inspire great conversations.  But Christian fiction has managed to do something that Christian movies haven't yet (for the most part): create a very high-quality product that entertains and also shares our worldview.

The thing is, while we can benefit from secular entertainment, and we can be entertained in a healthy way, we have to have our guards up, because some of those elements that don't fit into our worldview can sneak into the back doors of our lives if we're not careful.

Act of Valor isn't preachy.  Faith is woven through the story, especially as Zach wrestles with God and remembers things he learned growing up.  But even more importantly, it's the worldview.  So when friends kiss, they don't then go have sex.  That's just one obvious example. Worldview trickles out in the language, in attitudes and how we respond - not that we respond perfectly, but how we think about what just happened.  Worldview affects the way we think things should be, and that matters.  Because entertainment does have the power to change the way we think.

#3 Entertainment Done Right Makes us Think Without Overpowering the Story

The story has to be primary, or we don't stay in the theater.  Or in the case of reading, we don't keep reading the book.  But good authors can help us question things, challenge our faith even, without pulling us out of the story.  I read another book this week that kept pulling me out of the story for these challenging conversations, and it was way too much.  It came across as preachy and too much backstory.

Not Act of Valor.  I've seen this "challenge me without pulling me out of the story" done better, but author Dana Mentink did well. As I read, I thought about questions like "if you train up a child in the way he should go, what happens when something shakes his faith as an adult?"  "Can you learn to trust God after you've been broken and betrayed?"

Overall, I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys light romantic suspense from a Christian worldview. It was exactly what I needed for a slow weekend to rejuvenate for the week to come.

Romantic Suspense at LaGuardia

My rating is 4.5 stars

Zach was a very good cop. He was dedicated, in great physical shape, and loved what he did. He was, however, prone to breaking things and was a horrible cook. Enough so that his family nicknamed him The Incinerator.

I loved Zach and Violet's story! Suspense filled the story from start to finish as Violet attempted to keep from getting killed and Zach tried his best to protect her. With Eddie, the drug detection beagle, added to the mix, it was a great combination of romance, humor, and action.

One of my favorite moments occurred after Eddie chewed Violet's couch to pieces when left alone as Zach was off saving Violet's life. (Again!) Having discovered the damage, Zach proceeded to reprimand Eddie as if he was a human officer. So funny!

I really enjoyed seeing the diversity of the various jobs police dogs have. Eddie was specifically trained to sniff out drugs. Seeing the way he and Zach worked together and the way they approached the various situations was very interesting. Who knew that beagles could be so smart? (Yeah, Snoopy, my Aunt Lois' beagle, surely didn't display this kind of intelligence!) The ribbing the Zach got from his brothers who had more traditional police dog types about his cuddlier partner added levity.

If you enjoy action-filled stories with bullets flying and best friends falling in love, be sure to grab a copy of Act of Valor!

I have always been fascinated by K-9 dogs. They are definitely highly trained and very protective of their handler. This series promises to be full of adventure and high intense drama. The author has really done her homework and knows the ins and out of police dogs . I will never figure out how the dogs are trained to sniff out drugs, but I doubt nothing gets by them. If you are looking for a loyal, trained in combat and fearless partner, then Eddie would rank right up there with the best.

I enjoyed getting to now Violet and how serious she takes her job at the airport. I could picture the hustle and bustle as people rushed around the terminal trying to make their flights. Violet happens to be at the right place at the wrong time when a suspicious man tries to go around her to get checked in. In that split moment Violet's life will be in danger and she has to depend on her friend Zach and his K-9 partner to keep her safe.

The race is on as drug smugglers try to outsmart the cops. Violet is in danger since she can identify one of the smugglers and Zach is doing his best to protect her. I enjoyed knowing the history they share together . Zach is having a hard time trusting God right now and it is starting to cause him to lose focus on the job. A great loss has been felt by his family but Zach blames God. Will he be able to find his way back to his faith?

The story is action packed and never ceases as the danger surrounds Zach and Violet. Eddie, the K-9 is a great asset and I loved reading about him in action. The intrigue is thrilling and I loved how the author kept the story going. The book is one you can't put down and ends with a great reminder that God is always faithful and will never leave you.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Act of Valor
True Blue K-9 Unit #2
By Dana Mentink

Vi (Violet) Griffin has known the Jameson family her whole life and she knows just how much the mystery surrounding the death of Jordan Jameson has affected the entire family and especially her best friend Zach. And she's worried about him as he deals with the loss of his big brother.

Vi has always been, as she likes to say, "New York tough" but when she sees something suspicious at work she makes an instant enemy. And she has no choice but to ask for help and she needs it now! Soon Zach and his K-9 partner Eddie are racing to Violet's aid. But Vi has made an enemy who wields power and isn't afraid to come after her and eliminate her and anyone who gets in their way.

Vi is determined to not let this affect her daily life. But soon someone knows where she lives. And her job at the airport well it is obvious someone has found a way around security. Violet doesn't want to go back to her parents' diner full time nor move back into her parents' home. But Zach is just about as stubborn as she is and he's determined to keep her safe after failing Jordan.

But spending so much time together just might be the worse thing for Violet and Zach's friendship - it could alter it forever. Can you ever go back to being just friends once you fall in love?

This is the second book in the True Blue K-9 Unit series and it follows the NYC's K-9 Unit which is reeling following the death of their chief - Jordan Jameson and the disappearance of his K-9 partner Snapper. As with book 1 Justice Mission (Lynette Eason), there is no resolution to this case. If you are looking for a quick clean mystery that can be a stand-alone this is a great way to pass the sweltering hours of summer.

Act of Valor was a hard to put down thriller especially with a drug dealer intent on killing Violet, the witness to his smuggling crimes. And he would not stop. Violet happened to witness some shady business at the airport terminal where she worked but before she could do anything about it, she had a target on her back. These guys were ruthless.

Childhood friend and the man whom she secretly loves, is NYPD officer Zach Jameson and his partner, Eddie the beagle, are intent on keeping Violet safe. Zach is already reeling from his brother’s murder and his faith has taken a hard hit. Zach was bitter and cold when it came to thinking about or addressing his tattered faith, and even though that was hard to read, it was realistic. I am glad that even though his questions may never be answered, at least he does develop a better perspective throughout the story.

Watching Violet and Zach just keeping dancing around their relationship with one another made the tensions in this book even higher. Not wanting to face having a broken heart in public or ruin her friendship with Zach, she puts on a tough girl act that makes things a bit dangerous for her when she is marked for murder. Both her and Zach could be frustrating at times but I did enjoy his ever faithfulness to protect her no matter what.

I am looking forward to more stories of this family of cops. I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Dana Mentink really knows how to write action-packed, high energy romantic suspense. Every book with her is an intense adventure that leaves me hanging on the edge of my seat. This book is actually book 2 in True Blue K-9 Unit series that is written by multiple authors. Since I didn’t read book 1 by Lynette Eason, I missed out on quite a bit of background that gets addressed briefly in this second book. To fully enjoy the series and the multiple characters introduced in the overarching storyline, you should start from book 1 and follow along as each new book in the series is released.

This story focuses on Zach, one of the Jameson brothers on the K-9 Unit, and Violet, his long-time neighbor and childhood friend. Zach is suffering from losing his oldest brother and doesn’t know how to find his way from the pit of despair until his dearest friend Violet gets caught in the crosshairs of a dangerous drug smuggler. As Zach tries desperately to protect Violet, their friendship deepens even as danger mounts. I really liked Violet’s tough yet compassionate and faithful personality. Though this storyline has a tidy ending, the murder of Zach’s oldest brother and former chief of the K-9 Unit (the overarching storyline of the series) is still unresolved and I suspect it won’t have closure until the very end of the series.

If you enjoy a well-written romantic suspense with great characters, you will definitely love this book. I received a copy of the book via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

This book deserves 5 stars and more!!
Dana once again has me intrigued and kept the pages turning!!
This time she uses dogs which are another of my favorite animals. I love dogs because they are smart, loving, intelligent and fun to have! They are wonderful therapy as well.
Some things just happen that are out of control and we are helpless to stop it.
Even I was helpless at times where certain things life dealt me. It does no good to be mad at God. If truth be told this is where we need him the most!! Only sometimes we just can't see it.
Zac and Eddie are just awesome in this book!! I love how Dana seems to make them like real people.
The part I really don't care for is the male shovanist ego. Some men think they don't have to lower themselves to their feelings while women do.
I like Viloet the most! She is lively, outgoing, and yes the most stubborn person I have ever come across!! There are times (like me) that she doesn't listen and well stuff happens.
Violet's parents and all the K-9 cops are great supporting characters!
Even some parts of this book had me looking over me shoulder and the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.
I like reading suspense. Its full of action almost from the moment you open the book.
It's also refreshing at times too!!
I strongly recommend this book! She's an awesome writer!!
I received a copy of this book and no compensations were received! All opinions are my own!!

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Act of Valor. This is the second book in the continuity series True Blue K-9 Unit. All of the authors of this series are some of my favorites.

I know you are going to love it. This book is well written, action packed, and full of faith. It's an awesome book.

Violet Griffin worked for the air line. She is checking in passengers when she comes up against a couple of passengers that got her attention. She tells her boss and he takes over handling them. As she watches he allows them to go in without going through security. She calls her good friend Zach, a K-9 Officer with a drug detection dog. While she heads for the lounge she is attacked. Why is someone trying to harm her? Can he keep her safe? Can she live with his being her protector without him realizing how much she cares for him?

NYPD K-9 Officer Zach Jameson is working the airport when Violet calls him with her suspicions. He goes to meet her at the employee's lounge just as she's attacked. Why were these men after her? Was her boss involved? He just recently lost his brother, he couldn't stand the thought of loose her too?

A struggle to survive for these two. Always close can they be this close without losing the hearts totally? God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, surrender your heart to Jesus and watch Him work in your life.
