One Great Year #2

The Emerald Tablet

Rate this book
For fans of Diana Gabaldon and George R.R. Martin, The Emissary is a new reincarnation fantasy adventure set across thousands of years of real historical events. The Emissary's journey continues in Book II of The One Great Year Series.

Marcus and his soulmate Theron are Emissaries bound by an eternal and unshakable bond, and they are reincarnated into lifetimes that challenge them to their core as the Great Year Cycle descends. Marcus has past-life memory, and Theron does not, and the hero is confounded by the complications and cruelty of the Dark Age. Marcus has defied expectations for the past 13,000 years, and though he is battered and beaten, he does not break. Desperate to protect the secrets of the Emerald Tablet, the Emissaries battle against their Adversary Helghul who has been corrupted by the Beast that possesses him. Helghul relentlessly pursues Marcus and Theron through time, determined to destroy them and twist the power of the Emerald Tablet to his own diabolical purpose.

The race to find the tablet is woven through lifetimes in ancient Greece, Genghis Khan's Mongolia, and Nazi Germany and comes to a violent climax in the present day. Marcus learns that he can trust no one-including those he thought were his closest allies.

The One Great Year Series: The world has collapsed from a Golden Age into one of chaos and strife, mankind's salvation lies in the hands of eternal Emissaries-guardians chosen to protect the secrets of a sacred, ancient civilization and to guide humanity back to enlightenment even as its darkest hour approaches...A timeless tale of love reborn throughout the ages.

For every soul there is a theme, a path that must be followed, lessons that must be learned...

Veitch and DeFazio deftly blend elements of a fantasy-adventure with historical fiction to create an unforgettable, fateful tale of eternal love, undying devotion, betrayal, suffering and the hope that binds us all.

⭐⭐⭐⭐🌙 4.5

The cover is attractive with the eye of Horus, the all-seeing eye at the bottom center and the flower of life symbol showing up in the upper left. The color is green, of course. This is much like the symbolism on the cover of the first book in the series. The second cover that I have seen is quite different. And while quite a bit more dramatic, I don’t think it suits the books quite so well. This one shows the light shooting up from the stone and changes the color of the cover to a dark teal rather than emerald. The font is much more pedestrian. I feel the first cover coordinates with the cover of the first book very well and will create a very nice looking series on the shelf.

This book picks up our beleaguered Emissary (Marcus) in the modern-day when he and his soulmate (Theron) are in the same place and time again. Finally! Unfortunately, she (Theron) is being brought home by the roommate (Nate) to be introduced as his new girlfriend! Marcus doesn’t do a very good job of resisting his roommate’s girlfriend. In fact, he rather monopolizes her for the evening. But who can resist a 12,000-year soulmate?! Things have been quiet in Marcus’ life for a while. He can’t figure out where the Adversary (Helghul) is, but he knows he has to show up pretty soon. When Marcus finally gets a chance to meet Theron’s son, he knows immediately where the Adversary’s been. He may not be at full power yet, but he’s growing up fast.

The authors take us backward and forward in history to tell the stories about the Emissaries and Adversaries as they are reincarnated using real events in history in fictional ways to make this feel real. We meet Ghengis Khan and his family. Adolph Hitler and Ava Braun. Socrates and Plato. And they take us to the pyramids of Giza for some really amazing scenes and ideas that the Egyptians never thought of! By twisting this fantastic storyline through actual parts and places in history and using real people from history, it creates an amazing almost-reality to it all. It gives you references in time and place that you understand and really brings it all to life.

I did have some problems with the Grey Elder and his relationship with Helghul at the end. He was preachy and somehow I didn’t see him as being dynamic enough to control who and what Helghul was. And...the way this one ended was rather strange. Where did the other personalities go? Marcus is Mu now, but where are Theron and Helghul? Marcus should be able to see their shine unless they aren’t in this time and place with him.

If you enjoy fantasy and magic, if you enjoy historical novels, then you definitely will enjoy this amalgamation of the two. Recommended.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Again a masterpiece, when I was reading, wishing it would never end. Some many intricate plots are written through the different ages of times. But the lives of Marcus, Theron and Helghul are always intertwined, meeting each other in different karmic lessons. It is amazing of what spiritual knowledge is gathered in this book. All of it is familiar to me and characters that Marcus, Theron and Helghul play are based on real time historical figures like Plato, Alexander the great and so on. Also spiritual places show up as for Shamballa and Inner Earth.

We go in and out of consciousness when the world is descending slowly into the dark ages. There are so many twist and turns in this book and the Ying and Yang is ever presence through it's entirety. Again so many synchronicities happening leading to answers I did not know I was seeking and I am grateful. Through out the story I got chills through my body in recognition of the truth.

As said in the book ' life asked death, "Why do people love me but hate you? " Death responded, "Because you are a beautiful lie and I am painful truth." This is the book in a nutshell. There is so much action, sexual desire, romance, adventure, betrayals, family, life and death situations, conspiracy's, pandemic, enlightenment, strife, and inner battling.

Humanity is on the rise again towards the Bronze age, but the Black Elder and his adversary are keen to keep that from happening. Will they succeed and hold humanity in an ever dis-Unity grid?

At the end of the story there are so many links shared of the knowledge the writers tapped into and I am eagerly to explore. A must read if you like all spiritual knowledge and places.

In this sequel, we follow Quinn and his Marcus-conscious as he meets his soulmate and continues to look for his nemesis.

We reach such a climax in this novel. The history we learn as we follow Quinn's remembrance of his past lives, while also revealing an enemy that we never expected is phenomenal. I didn't want to put the book down.

The intricacies woven together through Indra's Web that connect the souls of these characters was beautifully written. I really need more so I'm not left in such an intense cliffhanger!

A story with strong characters in a tale of good verses evil.

Quinn is an emissary. Born in ancient Atitala, sometimes known as Atlantis, more than thirteen thousand years ago, he carries the memory of the countless lives he has lived through the darkest period in Earth’s history. That knowledge, along with the loss of the love of his life, weighs heavily on him. To remember all one’s past lives is not a gift - it is a burden. But today, in Seattle of all places, to his surprise and great joy, his soulmate is delivered to his apartment by his best friend. There are some snags however. Nate, the best friend, has declared he is in love with her, and Eden, which is her name in this incarnation, has no past life memory, so Quinn is a stranger to her. Thus commences The Emerald Tablet, the second book in The One Great Year series by Tamara Veitch and Rene DeFazio, a far-reaching narrative which will take you on an incredible journey through our planet’s history.

Based on the concept that our sun is a binary star with a cycle of twenty-six thousand years, the tale commences at the beginning of the current cycle, during the dark times when a new-born humanity struggles to understand its place in the cosmos. Ages where even the wheel has to be re-invented, and long millennia until slowly, the cycle starts to reach its nexus at thirteen thousand years, and civilisation begins to awaken to a new reality. The second part of the cycle is a time of progress and awakening, but there are powers, remnants of humanity’s past trials and tribulations, that would prefer the darkness to remain, for evil and confusion to prevail for ever.

The sweeping storyline will take you to the last days of Atitala, the pinnacle of the previous twenty- six-thousand-year cycle and its destruction as the new age begins. Three characters, interlaced like ‘the cords of a whip’, carry the narrative through ancient Greece and Egypt and the Mongolian Steppes, right through to the Second World War and on to the present day. Carefully researched historical detail brings fantastic clarity to the past lives of the characters and the times in which they live, bringing the carefully structured plot to a truly breath-taking finale.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Emerald Tablet, particularly the handling of historical characters like Plato and Aristotle, and the careful construction of the places and times, with lucid depictions of life on the Mongolian plains and the streets of Paris during the Second World War. The well-written narrative moves along at a brisk pace, introducing many original, thought-provoking, concepts and ideas along the way. As with book one in the series, which I also enjoyed, I was again prompted to look up several historical events and was happy to find them accurately reported. A good few New Age ideas and concepts are also woven into the storyline. Crystal Children, also known as Indigo Children, was another subject I was prompted to look up. Tamara Veitch and Rene DeFazio have produced an exciting adventure story which also manages to incorporate a great deal of historical fact along with some astounding New Age ideas. An excellent second instalment to what I believe will be a very successful series. I do not hesitate to recommend this book.

In this next installment, Veitch and DeFazio have masterly blended elements of a fantasy, action adventure with historical fiction to create an unforgettable, mystical realism tale. One of eternal love, betrayal, and emotional suffering and devotion.
The Emerald Tablet 2, is an engrossing and at times dark thrill ride where the writing is detailed and rich with imaginative prose. This story blends an exciting amount of romance and dynamic characters with conceptual world building. The Authors have masterfully crafted a harrowing storyline which makes for a gripping read.
If you love anything that is historical fantasy fiction, this book is for you.
The story is creative, and based on concept that our sun is a binary star with a cycle of twenty-six thousand years. A riveting roller coaster ride of our worlds history.
The sweeping storyline will take you to the last days of Atitala. An Engaging set of complex characters, along with non stop excitement rises right up to a thrilling ending. From start to finish it delivers an atmospheric, adventurous, engaging, and well-written read.

This book deals with elements of past lives, reincarnation, mystery realism masterly creative historical fantasy.

I highly recommend this book! I am looking forward to reading more from these authors.

Get ready to be up all night! I read the first book in this series earlier this month and I went looking for the second one right away. I really enjoy the format as the characters move through history. As a history major I really appreciate the detail of each historical period that was covered. The time period that covered Ancient Greece was some of my favorite writing I've read in years. Watching the emissaries grow through history and the various interactions they have with each other as different historical characters was deeply satisfying especially the Plato and Aristotle relationship. I felt that Marcus was his best self for that part of the story. I wasn't as engaged with the Crystal Children storyline although the last few chapters really hit close to home in light of the last year's world events. The detail in the Mongolian story made me want to fly to Mongolia and see it on the back of a Yak. I look forward to the continuing adventures of the Emissaries and I'm sure any future stories will keep me up all night like this one did. This was a great sequel to The emissary. he characters seamlessly change to other lives and continue the fight for enlightenment and beat the darkness. Very strange conclusion and I wonder if there will be another book in the series which will explain it.

I received a free copy of this book from BookSirens and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I liked the first book in this series, so I was disappointed in the sequel by comparison. I was hoping for more. I think the novelty of the concepts in the first book led me to overlook the pedestrian nature of some of the writing, especially the dialogue. Maybe the writing was erratic, rather, because some of it was poetic and moving, especially the part about the escape from Atitlan and the Red Elder saving the Emissaries from the first rebellion of the Adversaries. Other parts were less so.

I also thought that the reincarnations of the Emissaries -- Marcus and Theron -- and the Adversaries -- Helghul and the Grey Elder -- seemed kind of random. You had Plato, Aristotle and Anytus (Grey Elder); Genghis Khan (Helghul), his wife and a shaman; Hans Kammler (Grey Elder), a French engineer, and Richard Byrd. Why these characters? I also disliked some of the distortions of history, such as Adolf Hitler escaping to Argentina with the aid of the Adversaries, and the postwar American Antarctic expedition being presented as a secret operation to destroy a secret Nazi (i.e. Adversary) Antarctic military base. Not credibly believable.

On the other hand, I thought the depictions of Plato and Socrates were well told and sensibly within the bounds of historical fiction. And though Anytus going to Egypt to destroy the Emissary school was fantasy, it was not as clearly over the top as the book got later. The latter part of the book, when the modern day Quinn and Eden confront the Black Elder in his modern day form, got super fantastical and mystical, and I began to lose interest in its conspiracy theories. The ending especially disappointed me. I have to confess that my rating is a compromise, since I gave its prequel a high rating, I didn't want to drop it too precipitously. I also did like many parts of it, as I mentioned above. Still, a step backward, I would say.

Man it took forever to read this when it shouldn't have. But we made it and here we are with the review!

Main characters: bah. Marcus is all wrong for the position because he obsesses over Theron all the time. Theron is absolutely too naive and all sense leaves her (and Marcus both) as soon as she's a mother, making me really doubt if this is a state I ever want. Between stupid love and common sense I pick option B, no offense. Helghul is the mustache-twirling villain.

Secondary characters: were actually interesting because I forgot all about Grey Elder, and some of the others from Atitala also leave a huge mark (basically, anyone good and progressive throughout history is a reincarnated Atitalan)

Romance: obsession rather than romance

Plot: overall I still like it, and we finally have everyone out in the open for book three (to arrive at some point) so the stakes are much higher, particularly after Eden's ridiculous stunt there at the end.

World building: I enjoyed the forays into the past. The present, not so much.

"Magic": still boggles the mind but, if you suspend disbelief then it works!

Overall, a 3.5 out of 5, rounding it down to 3 because of personal preferences.

I received a free copy of The Emerald Tablet by Tamara Veitch and Rene DeFazio from Book Sirens.

This is the second book by these authors that I have read. This novel continues to follow the story of Marcus, an Emissary who is a representative of light and good.

This story touches on topics like reincarnation, higher consciousness, soul mates and the ever present battle of good vs evil. It includes historical elements and philosophical ideas that are both profound yet extremely relatable.

While I am glad to have read it, and loved the concepts it explores, I could only give it 3 stars. There was an enormous amount of content for only one novel and the story didn't flow for me in a way I hoped that it would. I wanted more in areas where the authors only scratched the surface. I found that it didn't hold my attention as it should have and it took way longer to read because of that.

All that said, it is worth the read if only for the level of thinking it provokes. There is a connectedness to humanity and our relationship to the universe. Perhaps, this version of the story is close to the truth.

Complimentary copy received from Voracious Readers Only in return for an honest review.

This novel was not particularly to my taste though it would be appealing to lovers of reincarnation and astral projection etc. I took a while to get into it but once I did the pace was good. The characters were only reasonably well developed but of course future sequels would fix this. I found it a bit repetitive in places and I wondered if I felt a little bit preached at, at times.

After finishing the Emissary I couldn't wait to start the journey through the Emerald Tablet. I was absolutely enthralled with the story of eternal love and undying devotion between soul mates Marcus and Theron. The use of real historical events will take you on an epic journey through time and the ever present battle of good vs. Evil. This book had a very exciting climax and I can't wait to get my hands on book 3, the Ancient Book of Changes, to see what happens next!
