Rate this book
On the outside, Tessa Woodrow is your ordinary, beautiful, professional working young woman in New York City. She has a great job, a killer apartment in the trendy part of Brooklyn, and a wardrobe that would make just about any twenty-seven-year-old female jealous.

Unfortunately, Tessa also has secrets, and hers happen to be much more complicated than she would ever let on to the outside observer.

Andrew James, on the other hand, has very few secrets. After all, it's hard to have them when you're a world-famous actor. When he's not busy starring in a smash-hit TV series, he spends his time in London with his wife and kids, or gallivanting around New York City with his best friend and costar.

It seems as if Andrew and Tessa are the last two people the universe would ever bring together. But clearly fate has other plans...

I liked this book but would be less explanatory about their day by day.
Don’t get me wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️
It’s worth the reading!

What’s not to love about a sexy British heartthrob who sweeps you off your feet one night at a swanky club in NYC? Am I right?!

Andrew James sounds like a dream come true; he’s gorgeous, rich and famous after all and only has eyes for the exotically beautiful and intriguing Tessa Woodrow from the moment they meet.

There’s only one problem: They’re both married...and it’s complicated.

Forewarning for those who don’t do cheating, this one is going to be a trigger for you.

If you enjoy a lot of steamy sex scenes, insta-love romance, drama, blackmail, and over five hundred pages then this book is right up your alley.

Andrew and Tessa are a couple that pulls you in. You want to keep reading to find out what they do next, what they have to face from their past next.
It's a book packed with heated encounters, funny dialog and intense emotional moments for both of our protagonists. When you reach the end of the book, you'll want to get the next one in the series, because Nyla K leaves us hanging.
It's totally worth the ride, and I can't wait for the next book.

This book was incredible. Normally you want to hate the characters when cheating is involved but not in Midnight City! I absolutely loved Tess and Andrew and all the side characters, especially Noah! The entire time I could not wait to get the story on Tess's husband and can I just say in the end once you find out and then how it ends you will cry. Emotions and connecting with the characters is what makes a memorable story and Nyla does just that with Midnight City. And the sex was HOT! This was a great book and I can't wait for part 2 😍

2.75✨ Okay were should I even start, this is my least favorite Nyla K book ever, Tess and Andrew were so insufferable like you're going to tell me that after seeing each other one time you both decided to say that you guys were in love after ONE weekend, and on top of that you guys barley know each other like okayyy. And while I am not a big fan of the cheating trope this was not done well like how you are going basically give up everything for some women you barley met. Tess girl why does everything this man does is just so memorizing for you like pull you're self together like Andrew could hit her with his car and she would go "OMG he is so freaking dreamy; I love him so much". And the whole plot about Tess and her husband was the only thing keeping this interesting, but if Andrew keep saying that she has a lot of baggage I am going to lose mine mind like Andrew you stupid motherfucker you also have baggage as well that involves two kids and a wife like did you forget about that. And another thing that pissed me off when they try to have a serious conversation, they end having sex like the FUCK, y'all need to have this conversation not fuck. UGHHHHH if it wasn't for the drama I would not be continue the series, but I will because I want to see how it ends even if the books are over 500 pages (for no reason by the way). And then she calls him daddy please Tess girl stop you make me wanna jump of a building every time you said that.

What I thought: Oh man, I devoured this book. I am a sucker for a good romance and Nyla delivers. Andrew and Tessa's chemistry was impossible to ignore - from the moment they laid eyes on each other, I wanted them to hook up. Nyla teases her readers mercilessly before we get a taste of their relationship and once they start...well....you'll have to decide what you want more: to go to sleep or stay up late and keep reading. I chose the latter and I can't wait for the next book.

The Quote: He didn't know what this strange hold was that she had on him, but he knew it was going to be very difficult to break.
But what if I don't want to break it?

Why I chose it: The same thing could be said about this novel overall - the story has a hold on you that doesn't let go even after the story has ended. I could have stopped at anytime, but I didn't want to! I bought the next books but unfortunately I can't tackle them yet because of my already long TBR, but it's there! I promise it's there!

I loved everything about this book!
From Tessa's mysterious past to Andrew's difficult marriage, every page kept me wanting for more.
The romantic chemistry between the two main characters is so passionate and steamy, I didn't want the story to end.
Will definitely be reading more books from the author!

25% This is a really hard book to read because they're both married. Who knows the status of tessa's husband after that prologue, was he in the military n got severly injured and is on his deathbed?

Andrew is married albeit unhappily and has two kids. So to me the cheating is so not cool. Not where kids are involved. And tessa n Andrew want to play happy couple? Added to this when he speaks to his wife he calls her babe or love? He's just fucked another woman and is going to spend the next few days with her n he calls his wife love? Fuck that!!! What a dickhead.

Hence I'm struggling cos at the minute I'm not liking either character.

I dont like how they all think its so fucking much fun cheating like its a game! Infact I really don't like any of these characters!!!

As I've been married for 19 years I just keep thinking of his wife. Its spoiling the book for me so far.

Also its a bit too descriptive, endless pages to describe a half hour event.

Grammar- wear v where

English- old fashioned, no one says bird or smashing!! Not for decades n I'm English!!

I so want to love this book having read to burn in brutal rapture n push which are staggeringly good books.

Will keep on!

Update
Ok I've tried and im giving up.

Just not my cup of tea!

Dnf

If like me you don't like cheating i strongly suggest you read Push or to burn in brutal rapture which are incredible books and 5 stars all the way!

Midnight City is a hot, steamy read, but with an interesting plot that keeps the reader hooked beyond the sex scenes. Tessa and Andrew are believable and engaging characters who find each other in the midst of dealing with tough personal issues. From the start, sexual tension fizzes, but it soon becomes apparent their draw to each other isn’t confined to the bedroom. The pace moves nicely, with the truth about Tessa’s secret not being revealed until the end. For a while I thought I’d be waiting until the sequel for my answers, but Nyla K didn’t disappoint. She crafted a lovely conclusion, enough to answer my questions, and yet leave me eager to read the next book in this series. If cheating and scorching sex scenes aren’t your thing, I’d pass on reading this book, however the author has handled the infidelity with sensitivity. Along with the main characters, the author has created a fantastic secondary character in Noah. I enjoyed this guy a lot, and hope he continues to feature in the series. Midnight City is a great first instalment of Andrew and Tessa’s story. I’ll definitely be reading the next two in this series.

Too long winded and too much mental ruminating about everything. The Walking Dead parallels got pretty tiresome too. Also, unlike a lot of people I don’t mind a book with cheating in it if there’s the appropriate guilt & angst etc. that would go along with cheating and actually feeling bad about it! This is not that, he doesn’t really seem to care that hes cheating on his wife even when his wife calls before he kisses the girl the first time. I mean if you’re that unhappy leave the person and then seek out another relationship why continue a relationship if you’re so unhappy I just don’t get it. It came across as very selfish especially because children were involved; that really irritates me. He seems to have no qualms about it really, other than a brief thought of ‘oh I shouldn’t be doing this but, oh well, let me dive into her pussy!’

I have liked other books by this author. I will say the author is a decent writer overall and knocks sex scenes out of the park and along with good sexual tension.

This book was amazing, I love the chemistry between the two main characters. The story hooked me from page 1, the attraction and tension between the two characters are 🔥🔥.
I don't normally read a lot of romance but this one has me wanting more. Andrew James is 😍😍.
Edit: I definitely enjoyed my re-read.

Midnight City follows the lives of Tessa and Andrew; a love and lust at first sight story that seems too good to be true... until it isn't. A fantastic read that meshes explicit intimacy (and if this isn't your thing, turn away now...) alongside passionate love, with a storyline that keeps you turning the pages. Give it a try!

Andrew is an actor in a popular series and is married with two kids in London. He and his wife have had a shitty relationship for years. One night he goes out with his costar Noah and meets Tessa and her friend. He instantly falls in love with Tessa. They go back to Noah’s and end up in bed together. They spend two more days together before he goes back to London for 3 weeks. In that time they talk every day until the last week where they barely talk at all. Because Andrew’s wife was all over him all of a sudden and he felt guilty.
Tessa is also married but her marriage is all mysterious and there’s things that she won’t talk about. She says her husband is working out of town. But really, by the end of the book, she tells Andrew everything about him. She brings him to the hospital private ward where Devin has been in a coma for six months.
This other army dude keeps threatening Tessa. He wants her to pull the plug. Apparently there was a whole thing that happened and Devin and this other guy were the only survivors. It was a set up and only Devin and this guy know the truth. There were videos and recordings but they all disappeared. Devin was basically wiped out of all records and the only thing standing in the way is Tessa and her refusal to pull the plug.
Andrew’s life and family have been threatened and Tessa has been followed. When she brings Andrew to see Devin, she breaks it off with him to protect him. Andrew leaves and goes back to London.
Devin dies.
Andrew is miserable.
To be continued.

Not what I expected from Nyla K. I’m not saying this book is bad. It’s just not the thrill ride I expect when I crack open a Nyla K book. There’s a lot of sexy times. A lot. I’m not a prude and at first was totally on board but this story could have taken the dramatic story line and run with it and this would be a 5 star read. Also adding in the danger would have upped all those hot and heavy times. However it’s a pretty much straight contemporary that only hints at the dark side and I love that darker side. A darker side I expect from the amazing Nyla. While I won’t read it again, I at no point thought hey I should stop reading and as soon as I have time for one of Nyla’s beastie books (they are always thick ❤️) I will be diving into book two. The story is left me wanting more and wanting to see this couple through!

So, this isn’t my favorite Nyla K book. I found it severely lacking plot and kept waiting for the big drama to start. I did like the characters and really felt their chemistry which seemed to justify their instalove for me. Even the big drama with Devin didn’t seem like it should have been a huge obstacle if Tessa had mentioned it up front. Even though this isn’t my favorite book, I’m going to finish the series.

I will say that the thing I think I like most about reading this after having read some of Nyla K’s newer books is seeing the exponential growth in her writing! This felt like she was dipping her toe in the sexy writing game but go read Push and tell me that she didn’t upgrade to hot as fuck pretty quickly. I’m super excited for her new series Alabaster Penitentiary too!

FOR-A-FULL-REVIEW-VISIT

MY RATING: 3*
TITLE: Midnight City
AUTHOR: Nyla K
SERIES:Midnight City #1
RELEASE DATE: 02 August 2018
CLIFFHANGER: Yes

I gave this book a three because while its absolutely my type of jam, the morally questionable type of romances, it was soooooo long and long winded. It could have done with some editing to take some of the unnecessary things out and it was written in the third person. I do not enjoy books written in the third person.

Wow.

This book was incredible.

The chemistry between Andrew and Tessa is🔥 the moment they meet.

The only problem..They’re both married and let’s just say it very complicated.

One of things I loved about this book is we get to see their day-to-day life with and without each other.

This book has funny moments,a lot of very steamy moments, and some intense emotional moments between Andrew and Tessa.

Towards the end of the book I was teary-eyed. I truly felt the emotion that Tessa and Andrew were feeling.

That cliffhanger ending!! Evil

Very excited to read the next book❤️❤️❤️❤️

I enjoyed the romance and plot of the story, however it was filled with way too much repetitive narration. The book was 600 pages and could have been shortened to 300 or less. I read Push and enjoyed that and will read Burn in Brutal Rapture, but I don’t think I have it in me to finish this series.

I skimmed at least 25% of the book I am sure but still good steaminess and a good romance. Not the MOST exciting plot beyond the spicy phone scenes, the spice, and honestly Tessa & Andrew are quite likable at the low stakes of the plot. But full disclosure I am writing this review for myself because I am pretty sure I’ll forget what this book was.

Lots and lots of sex... and I mean A LOT... I ended up skimming most of them. I think the sex scenes over powered the plot. Still a good cute little romance. And you can't help but love Tessa and Andrew and hope they get their happy ending! My poor wrists hurt from holding this ginormous book😂😂😂.

Okay story

Very long and drawn out. Could've been condensed quite a bit. She didn't have to lie about her husband. She could've told the truth with no details and it would've been fine.
