The Devourers have broken free of the Abyss and Fen's power is useless against them. Hunted mercilessly by the Devourers and their sorcerous allies, his only allies captives, Fen seems to be out of options until an offer of help comes from an unlikely source.

Will Fen be able to join forces with Aislin and Karliss before he is cut down by the Devourers? Or will they manage to get their hands on the last piece of the key and free the Queen of Chaos?

Born in 1965, I grew up on a working cattle ranch in the desert thirty miles from Wickenburg, Arizona, which at that time was exactly the middle of nowhere. Work, cactus and heat were plentiful, forms of recreation were not. The TV got two channels when it wanted to, and only in the evening after someone hand cranked the balky diesel generator to life. All of which meant that my primary form of escape was reading.

At 18 I fled to Tucson where I attended the University of Arizona. A number of fruitless attempts at productive majors followed, none of which stuck. Discovering I liked writing, I tried journalism two separate times, but had to drop it when I realized that I had no intention of conducting interviews with actual people but preferred simply making them up.

After graduating with a degree in Creative Writing in 1989, I backpacked Europe with a friend and caught the travel bug. With no meaningful job prospects, I hitchhiked around the U.S. for a while then went back to school to learn to be a high school English teacher. I got a teaching job right out of school in the middle of the year. The job lasted exactly one semester, or until I received my summer pay and realized I actually had money to continue backpacking.

The next stop was Australia, where I hoped to spend six months, working wherever I could, then a few months in New Zealand and the South Pacific. However, my plans changed irrevocably when I met a lovely Swiss woman, Claudia, in Alice Springs. Undoubtedly swept away by my lack of a job or real future, she agreed to allow me to follow her back to Switzerland where, a few months later, she gave up her job to continue traveling with me. Over the next couple years we backpacked the U.S., Eastern Europe and Australia/New Zealand, before marrying and settling in the mountains of Colorado, in a small town called Salida.

In Colorado we starved and froze, started our own electronics business, and had a couple of sons, Dylan and Daniel. In 2005 we shut the business down and moved back to Tucson.

I am currently working on finishing The Devastation Wars fantasy series and attending graduate school.

Great read!

I truly am enjoying this series though it has a lot of slow parts. All the traveling and the chatter among friends. I guess some of it’s needed, but some of it is just filler to me. Anyway, I feel for Karliss and the way some of the people in his tribe treated him, I suppose that’s real life though. But for them to exile him and turn on him because of one stupid woman’s word. Not cool. He is a good kid who makes impulsive decisions at times. Tell me a kid who doesn’t do that and all of this was thrown upon him. And for Fen...geesh....does anyone in that city have a backbone? I am glad to have finally see the fist come out of whatever spell was place on him, but what happened was sad. Glad Fen held out hope. And Aislin...her moods are everywhere. A basic girl of 12. Typical for that age. But she has progressed. And finally...the ending....wow! I hope the three end up being ok and work things out to save the world. Can’t wait for the next book!

This is the fifth book in the epic fantasy series Chaos and Retribution by Eric T. Knight, called Shadow Hunted and the book continues to follow the fight between the Devourers, Lowellin and the black sorcerers versus the shaper children. The fist has been killed and Fen is trying to defend Samkara as best he can but he is in hiding as he is supposed to have been killed with Barik his mentor. Ravin his girlfriend is in danger so is taken in hiding by his friends the Wolfpack, and she is taken to the most dangerous place in the city, Shantytown, whilst the wolfpack are doing their best to find Fen and offer their backing to him. In the meantime Lowellin declared himself king of Samkara but the real ruler was S’nash the devourer and leader of the Ichthalids. These were looking for the pieces of the key to unlock the abyss and release their Queen, the Queen of chaos. Fen soon realises that his stone power was not enough to combat these monsters as chaos power was much stronger and they could not be defeated. He realises he has to join up with other shapers he had heard about ie those wielding seaforce and the power of the wind. So he and the wolfpack travel incognito in the same ships as the devourers to get to Qarath. Karliss too had left his clan after being exiled by them to make his way to Qarath with his two friends in tow. Once they get there they see Aislin fight and use her seaforce and think that maybe if they do join forces they can win and kill those who cannot be killed. This series has been amazing and every book just goes one further with this book being so gripping and so jam packed with adventure it left me breathless at times. The stone, sea and wind powers are awesome and chaos magic is frightening but above all else what strikes the reader most is the fact that the wolfpack, Karliss friends and Aislin’s guard, Randel, who are just humans with no magic power to them are willing to be so loyal and fight by their sides. Also something which I really enjoyed throughout the book was the banter that went on between the friends, keeping the book light-hearted and fun to read even when the going got very difficult as it did at times. These books keep getting better and better and I cannot wait for the sixth book which I am sure is going to give us an ending the like of which we can only imagine and anticipate.

Part five of the Chaos and Retribution series brings the story to yet another level... Karliss, Fan and Aislin each face powerful enemies - and it's a win some lose some situation. Only losing this time means horrors and damnation for the whole world...

With book five we finally get to the point when all three stories, separate so far, come slowly together - all three kids are now on the same continent, and we know that they will finally meet and join forces in their battle against the evil. But before we get there, each of them has to undergo hardships, experience pain and suffering, sacrifice or risk things they love the most - and still seem to fail when everything depends on them...

The tale becomes so dark that it would have been almost unbearable to read if Eric T. Knight hadn't put so much humour in it . Yes, humor:) You'll find more friendly banter and more light-hearted jokes here than in all the previous four parts together. And rightly so - humour is the only thing that saves the sanity of people who have to face the atrocities of war and see their loved ones die at the hands of a powerful enemy.

As with all Eric's books, what you get here is a masterfully woven plot, characters that are complex and definitely realistically drawn (yes, even the magical monsters and demons feel true-to-life when it comes to motivations and emotions), and a rich world that feels so real you would like to take a trip to some of the places on holiday...

Now we only have to wait to see how it all ends in the final istallment... which I'll grab as soon as it's published:)

Wow!!!

Love the heart stopping action. Love the mystery and suspense and fantastical evil ones. Or are they? I'm ashamed to say I didn't review book 3 & 4 because I HAD to hurry onto the next books to see what was going to happen; the suspense was killing me. Since the final book is not available until February 8, 2019, I am pausing to praise this series. Karliss, Fen (teenagers) and Aislin (girl-youngest) are young people who have unwittingly been thrust into the chaos of the gods, sorcerers, Shapers and demons and Devourers from the abyss...oh my! They just met up for the first time in the final few minutes of the fifth book. It didn't end well for the heroes, but have faith they will have their retribution in the finale!!! If you like the twists and turns of adventures, hang on this is your series.

"Spellbinding" !

This is the 5th book of "Chaos and Retribution" and is a totally spellbinding fantasy book! The plot continues to build effectively and maintains a swift pace. The main characters , Fen, Karliss and Aislin are so different and have their own complex stories. There is unexpected danger at every turn. If there is any chance of defeating the Devourers, the three must come together... The chapters fly by and every one of them is full of action and emotion. The author weaves a perilous adventure that is heartpounding and emotional with plenty of action. This book kept me reading late into the night. I highly recommend this book to all!

As mentioned in my review of book 4, this series follows up on the previous pentalogy (Immortality and Chaos). I burned through the book quickly only to have it come to a screeching halt at the end (when things were just getting good!). Just as I began to lament the end of this series I was informed book 6 is in the works! If you liked his previous works with Rome & Co (and now the next generation) this is a must read. Really looking forward to the next book! I'm not going to lie, there was a part that I definitely shed a few tears (hit me right in the dad feels). Book 6 can't get here quick enough!

coming into your power and losing

Fen must now hide from the Devourers in the city. even his Wolf Pack is in jeopardy. he is stronger than before but all that is useless if he can't protect his city. Karliss has ensured that Kaide will no longer threaten his people but he no longer has a home. he has lost his piece of the key and now goes in search of the other two kids like himself. Aislain can feel the Devourers' power reaching across the sea. is her hold on the sea strong enough yet?

When Darkness Closes In
This book drops you straight into desperation, and never lets go. I felt Fen’s fear and exhaustion as the Devourers closed in and his power failed him at every turn. The tension is constant, the stakes painfully high, and every fragile alliance feels like it could shatter at any moment. I loved how hope arrives from the most unexpected place, forcing Fen to trust when trust feels impossible. Dark, fast-paced, and emotionally charged, this story kept me turning pages, bracing for what might be lost if the Queen of Chaos is freed.

Continues the excellent building of tension leading to this series' inevitable conclusion. The way the three youngsters are gradually brought together is exceptionally well done. I wasn't a huge fan of the way it ended, but knowing there was a sixth book ahead of time, it was easier to deal with. It wasn't as terrible a cliffhanger as it would've been if I couldn't get #6 right away (which I did).

This is a great continuation of the Chaos and Retribution series. Each of our three youth with shaper powers must make decisions and face the consequences as the inevitable battle looms ever closer. As the devourers and those aligned with them seem to get ever stronger, so do the children.
This book has got fast paced action and great interludes. This series is a must read.

Shadow Hunted finally brings our three protagonists together. In a series as extensive as this one, where they've basically been doing their own thing for two thousand pages, this is a tricky transition, and the series makes it well. It feels like a crossover episode: look at these characters you love interacting--but with much higher stakes as we're leading into the epic final battle.

Outstanding! Chaos is in the world and kicking everyone’s behind. The story lines come together with amazing results. I won’t give away the ending, but I’m so glad there’s a book 6. It will be incredible!

The story continues and I wish there were more

But I’ll stick around for the ending because it’s a great tale with likable characters. The tween romance is a tiny bit odd, though.

4.5 stars for this next to last book in this excellent series. Greater, more terrifying dangers than ever stalk Fen, Aislin and Karliss as they make their way slowly over the continents to unite together to fight the evil threatening the world.

I'm loving this series, and I'm beginning to think I should have waited and just reviewed the entire Chaos and Retribution series instead of entries on each individual book. I'm running out of things to say that aren't redundant! haha
